Bertram Jacobus: good morning scath ! :-)
    Scathach Rhiadra: Hello Bertram
Scathach Rhiadra: how are you today?
Bertram Jacobus: "long time no see" :-)
    Scathach Rhiadra: :)
Bertram Jacobus: ty. fine - how are you ? :-)
    Scathach Rhiadra: fine ty
    --BELL--
Bertram Jacobus: great. you didn´t mind to sit here all alone ? :-)
Scathach Rhiadra: no, it was quite a pleasent change:)
Bertram Jacobus: in which way "a change" , please ? :-)
Scathach Rhiadra: usually there is somebody here, so it was a change of circumstances to be alone
Bertram Jacobus: ah i see so i should leave again perhaps better ? ;-)
Scathach Rhiadra: no, not necessary Bertram:)
Bertram Jacobus: hm. okay. ty scath !
Bertram Jacobus: but don´t want to bother (!) ... sometimes / often i feel i´m too talkative ...
Scathach Rhiadra: ah no, you are just fine, much appreciated:)
Bertram Jacobus: hmm - and i even again now ... would like to ask more questions ... but ... starnge, that when i don´t do it, often "nothing happens" ...
Scathach Rhiadra: when you don't ask questions?
    Bertram Jacobus: yess. exactly
Bertram Jacobus: communication in the net is a special thing. especially when it shall not be only blah blah ...
Bertram Jacobus: some or even many seem only to react, not act very much and others are often not really here, not present ...
Bertram Jacobus: so one can become quite shy ...
Scathach Rhiadra: oh, are they multi-tasking maybe, the ones who are not really present
Bertram Jacobus: yes. sometimes, for sure. okay : or even may be often
Bertram Jacobus: but - if many also fear to go deeper as surface ?
Bertram Jacobus: do many fear perhaps i meant (?) ...
Scathach Rhiadra: I have never really understood that, if you are sitting having a conversation with someone, you don't read your mail of hold private conversations on the phone with others, so why do it here in SL?
Bertram Jacobus: my impression is, that has to do with tehse nowadays "modern tiomes" ...
    Scathach Rhiadra: ah, I see:)
Bertram Jacobus: and also with the net as a new communication mean -
Bertram Jacobus: i think youngsters do it much more then older people
    Scathach Rhiadra nods
Bertram Jacobus: but also they get slowly used to these new situations
    --BELL--
Bertram Jacobus: and it´s awsome how intense this ability of multitasking can be - i experience it at others - whereas i can´t do that very well ...
    Qt Core: hi all!
    Scathach Rhiadra: Hello Qt, Calvino:)
Bertram Jacobus: hey ! good morning cal and qt ! :-)
Bertram Jacobus: it looks like i have missed the pab party (?) ... :-/
Qt Core: the shirts are still avaible yesterday night they were
Bertram Jacobus: was it fun ?
Qt Core: yes and nice music too
    Scathach Rhiadra: :)
Bertram Jacobus: how many were there ?
Calvino Rabeni: Hello all! (I have a big lag )
Bertram Jacobus: oops - so hello again cal - may i get better instantly ! ;-)
Qt Core: about ten at each time, with some people coming and going as their tz went ;-)
    Bertram Jacobus: tz ? :-)
    Qt Core: timezone
Scathach Rhiadra: that was a good turn-out
    Bertram Jacobus: ah ! :-)
Scathach Rhiadra: so, is anyone here going to the retreat in California in a few weeks?
Bertram Jacobus: me not sadly ...
    Qt Core: sadly no
    Qt Core: ;)
    Scathach Rhiadra: :)
Calvino Rabeni: Same with me - not this time unfortunately
    Scathach Rhiadra: me neither
Qt Core: i like that they are planned quite in advance, so i may go to one oneday (as i have sole logistic to consider for leaving home even for a few hours)
Bertram Jacobus: no european will travel to another continent for it ?
Qt Core: isn't Wol going ?
Scathach Rhiadra: yes Wol will be travelling from Europe
Bertram Jacobus: ah okay. i was impressed on malta, from how far many came ! :-)
Scathach Rhiadra: maybe San Francisco doesn't hold much attraction, which is strange as I thought it was a very popular destination
    --BELL--
Bertram Jacobus: destination yes, but for the retreat ... may be more challinging because not in a quiet surrounding , landscape and such (?) ...
Qt Core: just for acctractiveness i would love to visit the city and StarFleet headquarters ;-)
Calvino Rabeni: :) Yes, I forgot SF was the center of the human universe !
Scathach Rhiadra nods, yes it is being held in a hotel room I think, strange for a retreat
Calvino Rabeni: It is a city ofmany vistas
Calvino Rabeni: The urban retreat will be a new experiment
Qt Core: but still that would bring meditation right in daily life, one may say that it is too easy to do it in a remote place far away from every distraction
Scathach Rhiadra: true, but we are in daily life every day, so should be used to practicing like that!
Bertram Jacobus: one follows the other i´d say : with less distractions : more easy . next step : in more vivid surroundings -
Bertram Jacobus: agree with scath and like to add : that may be can be called one goal : pratice in whole life
    Scathach Rhiadra nods
Bertram Jacobus: but i like also the dividing of "formal practice" fromd "everytime practice"
    Bertram Jacobus: from*
Bertram Jacobus: ok - i´ll leave - ty all for the talk - may all being be happy please and cu later ! :-)
    Qt Core: bye Bert
Scathach Rhiadra: bye Bertram, have a good weekend:)
Bertram Jacobus: ty ! :-) same same :-)
Calvino Rabeni: i remember having meditation practice in the SF area with the noise and traffic
Calvino Rabeni: Do you know what a "boom car" is?
Scathach Rhiadra: ah, was it more difficult?
Calvino Rabeni: A car with a loud speaker that rattles the window panes
Qt Core: ohhh, guilty if listening something i love and need the energy ;-)
Scathach Rhiadra: you mean a radio turned so loud?
Calvino Rabeni: Not more difficult after you gett used to it
    --BELL--
    Bertrum Quan: good morning everyone.
    Scathach Rhiadra: Hello bertrum!
    Qt Core: hi bertrum
Calvino Rabeni: Yes the radio so loud the walls of the building shake
Calvino Rabeni: That is a boom car
Scathach Rhiadra: mmm, that could be distracting:)
Calvino Rabeni: But right through the window also, the bus stop and a busy street
Qt Core: it depend on the music... and nothing a shotgun can't solve ;-)
    Scathach Rhiadra: :))
Scathach Rhiadra: Bertrum, we are chatting about the idea of 'urban retreat'
    Scathach Rhiadra: in san Francisco
    Bertrum Quan: Ah. thank you.
Bertrum Quan: In what sense "retreat?"
Scathach Rhiadra: well the PaB retreat coming up in a few weeks will be held in a hotel in SF, don't really know in what sense it can be called a retreat
Bertrum Quan: Something different from a person's norm?
Scathach Rhiadra nods, yes they will not be in their homes anyway
Calvino Rabeni: yes, with different focus
Bertrum Quan: And not in their RL communities
    Scathach Rhiadra nods
Bertrum Quan: A journey to somewhere else... to other...
Bertrum Quan: Are any of you going to attend?
Scathach Rhiadra: no, are you, it is in your backyard so to speak?
    Yakuzza Lethecus: morning everyone
    Qt Core: no,
    Qt Core: 'morning yaku
    Scathach Rhiadra: good morning Yakuzza
    Bertrum Quan: Morning Yakuzza
Bertrum Quan: No. And only the backyard in terms of miles and miles of a shared coastline.
    --BELL--
Scathach Rhiadra: ah, I forget how big america is:)
Qt Core: time to go, bye all, have a nice weekend
    Yakuzza Lethecus: bye qt
Scathach Rhiadra: have a good weekend Qt:)
Calvino Rabeni: Bbertrum, where are you relative to SF?
    Bertrum Quan: Far from...
Calvino Rabeni: USA is big - I can drive there in 16 hours
Bertrum Quan: From where you are you mean?
    Calvino Rabeni: yes
Scathach Rhiadra: I couldn't drive anywhere for more than about 5 hours without ending up in the ocean:)
Yakuzza Lethecus: you could drive a boat :)
Bertrum Quan: Does a retreat depend on travelling a great distance? or an attratcive natural setting?
Calvino Rabeni: It depends on withdrawing from normal habits and activities
Scathach Rhiadra: I would think not, more on concentration of practice
Calvino Rabeni: And having a practice and focus on it
Yakuzza Lethecus: i would say on neither of those, isn´t the sf retreat supposed to be for example an experiment to do a retreat in an urban setting
Yakuzza Lethecus: sure i think even in SF there might be beautyful places
    Calvino Rabeni: especially there
Calvino Rabeni: there are many hilsdes to gaze from
Yakuzza Lethecus: but to do it in an urban environment is the experimental character of the SF retreat in particular
Scathach Rhiadra: yes, actually most retreats I do are in urban settings, but in Dharma centres maybe, not hotels
Calvino Rabeni: Time for me to go - thanks for the company :)
    Yakuzza Lethecus: sleep well cal
Scathach Rhiadra: thank you Calvino, have a good weekend:)
Bertrum Quan: Night Cal. An urban setting is no less a good place to stop and reflect than a remote nature preserve. It is one's inner nature after, al
Calvino Rabeni: TY you also :)
Bertrum Quan: It's one inner--true-- nature that one is seeking.
    Scathach Rhiadra nods
    --BELL--
Bertrum Quan: In one sense it is impossible to retreat from self and yet self is equally difficult to truly know.
Scathach Rhiadra nods, closer to you than your skiin
    Scathach Rhiadra: skin*
Bertrum Quan: but also as distant as the faintest star
Bertrum Quan: In its own way it's a paradox.
Scathach Rhiadra: yes, it seems like the greatest mystery of being is how to just be
Bertrum Quan: That is the issue, isn't it? It's always attainable--closer than your skin--and like a dream it's just our of one's grasp no matter how close one comes to it.
    Scathach Rhiadra nods
Bertrum Quan: Day after day, it is worth the effort to clear one's mind--to attempt to anyway.
Scathach Rhiadra: yes, and even instant by insant if we can remember
Bertrum Quan: Yes. While one is alive there is always an opportunity... it's certainly a richer experience that having one's life set on default.
    --BELL--
    Bertrum Quan: than (not that)
Bertrum Quan: I think it's an undertsanding that has come to some of us over time, with age.
    Scathach Rhiadra: :)
Scathach Rhiadra: well, I must go, have a good weekend Bertrum, Yakuzza
Yakuzza Lethecus: take care you both
Bertrum Quan: Have a great weekend Scath, Yakuzza.
    Scathach Rhiadra: Namasté
