The Guardian for this meeting was Eliza Madrigal. The comments are by Eliza Madrigal who was joined by SophiaSharon, Darren, Widget, Lucinda, Pema, Tarmel, Calvino, Yidam, and Fox, for a morning session which included discussion of 'Eyjafjallajokull', the upcoming San Francisco retreat, protests in Thailand, and Tarmel's exceptional dinner party. :)

In the background, some of us were still buzzing with interest in an email Pema sent earlier, sharing excitement of space explorations to asteroids.

Eliza Madrigal: Ohhhh Sharon, you are *beautiful* !!
    Eliza Madrigal: haunting...
SophiaSharon Larnia: laughs, "thank you" Snapshot_174.jpg
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: like a gothic painting....
Eliza Madrigal: a wanderer through invisible corridors
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes, that about sums it up haha
    Eliza Madrigal: haha
SophiaSharon Larnia: its all freebies which is even more fun
Eliza Madrigal: you're an incredible shopper it seems
SophiaSharon Larnia: oops except for the hair

Eliza Madrigal: I'm breathing today with 'clearing the air' for flights in mind :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: yes!
SophiaSharon Larnia: I dreamed about going on a longgggg trip in the car, but i wasn't in the usa
SophiaSharon Larnia: Im not sure where i was
Eliza Madrigal: how did you know?
SophiaSharon Larnia: the cities and markets didn't look like acme and walmart
    SophiaSharon Larnia: laughs
    Eliza Madrigal: hahahaha
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Darren... um... looking for the beach?
Eliza Madrigal: this pool is a little shallow....
    SophiaSharon Larnia: HI Darren
Darren Islar: is there a beach around here?
    SophiaSharon Larnia: smiles
    Eliza Madrigal giggles
Darren Islar: or am I mistaken
Eliza Madrigal: well not so far >g<
    Darren Islar: what a pitty
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Widget :)) Nice to see you so early this morning
    Widget Whiteberry: ☆smiles☆
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Widget
    Widget Whiteberry: good morning, all
Eliza Madrigal: I was saying that today I am breathing with 'clear air' for flights, in mind... can't hurt
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Darren Islar: no can't hurt at all
Widget Whiteberry: those saline sprays are a good thing
Darren Islar: I heard to stopped the flights at least until this evening
    Darren Islar: *they
Widget Whiteberry: keep your mucous membranes from drying out in flight and making them less efficient for screening out bugs
Eliza Madrigal: Well there is concern as to whether gaya and wol will make it to retreat... doesn't seem they will arrive 'on time' in any event
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, good tip though, Widget :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Fox! :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Fox!
    Darren Islar: hi Fox
Darren Islar: that would be a shame

Eliza Madrigal: we're quite a display this morning... must make note :)
Widget Whiteberry: how widespread are the problems caused by -- what was it? -- volcano eruption?
    Eliza Madrigal: Oh, huge...
    Darren Islar: yes in iceland
Darren Islar: a lot of dust high up in the air
Darren Islar: but I don't know the latest news
Eliza Madrigal: yes.... bits of glass, etc
    Darren Islar: glass even
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
Eliza Madrigal: so they have to be very cautious and close when in doubt
Darren Islar: poor wol and gaya
Eliza Madrigal: In fact, the airport for dignitaries to arrive for the Polish leader's funeral is closed
Darren Islar: the whole northern part of Europe is covered in dust
Darren Islar: you look a bit ....eh....pale Sharon today
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :) giggles
Darren Islar: you just felt like it or is there a reason
    Darren Islar: oops bell
SophiaSharon Larnia: just felt like it
    Eliza Madrigal: :)

Widget Whiteberry: I found this in BBC News: Most flights in the UK will remain grounded until early Saturday as ash from a volcano in Iceland continues to drift across Europe. Germany and Poland closed most of their airports early on Friday and the no-flight zone now extends to Austria in the south and Lithuania in the east.

    SophiaSharon Larnia: oh wow
Darren Islar: well it goes very nice with your umbrella, dress and hair
    SophiaSharon Larnia: 'thank you'
Eliza Madrigal: I love the look... transparent... ghostly
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, yes I wondered about Germany
    Eliza Madrigal: sigh
Eliza Madrigal: When Wol was on the way to Malta, there was too much snow for the flight.. arrived a bit late
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Pema!
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Pema :)
    Darren Islar: hi Pema
    Fox Monacular: Hi Pema
Pema Pera: hi Eliza, Sharon, Darren, Fox, Widget!
Darren Islar: but as I understand Widget right, there is still a chance they can make it in time
Eliza Madrigal: We're mostly sharing volcano news so far :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: i hope so!
Pema Pera: just woke up -- what is the news?
Darren Islar: though there will be al lot of passengers that needs to be transported
Eliza Madrigal: more closings, mostly... seems to me

Eliza Madrigal: though I thought it was cute that one twitterer said the name is like something that appears when one falls asleep at the keyboard :)
    Fox Monacular: Hi Lucinda
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Lucinda :)
Darren Islar: Widget found this on the BBC news
    Pema Pera: Hi Lucinda!
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Lucinda
    Darren Islar: Hi Lucinda
Pema Pera: yes, funny name indeed!
    Lucinda Lavender: Hi to eveyone
    Eliza Madrigal: 'Eyjafjallajokull'
Pema Pera: hi Tarmel, good to see you again!
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Tarmel
    Fox Monacular: Hi Tarmel!
    Darren Islar: hi Tarmel
Eliza Madrigal: wow... and Tarmel :) Hello!
    Tarmel Udimo: hey there all!

Eliza Madrigal: Quite a full day... perhaps I should make coffee :)
Pema Pera: The name should change slightly with each major outburst, drop a letter or two
Darren Islar: oh nice, can do with a cup :-)
Eliza Madrigal: haha... yes maybe you can write a letter Pema? hehe
    Pema Pera: :)
    Tarmel Udimo: how is everyone?
Eliza Madrigal: Well thanks, Tarmel. You?
    Tarmel Udimo: great
Tarmel Udimo: just droped in for a few mins and realised PaB was happening so thought I'd drop in:)
Eliza Madrigal: Happy that you did... any news to share? Its been so long that I've seen you...
Darren Islar: well, its great to see you
    Pema Pera: yes, indeed!
Eliza Madrigal: (always mean to wake up for 1AM session, but well... haha)
Tarmel Udimo: exactly just gor home from a dinner party:)
SophiaSharon Larnia: i *used* to be awake for it but too blah to participate :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Pema Pera: :-)
Eliza Madrigal: If I'm up for that session I am scattered and rambling mostly... quite the opposite, but I enjoy reading them
SophiaSharon Larnia blows real hard and waves arms overthe european airports
Eliza Madrigal: Thank you Sharon! :))
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hehe
Tarmel Udimo: yes the 1:00am's have an interesting mix, but then so do all the others:)
    Eliza Madrigal nods :))
Eliza Madrigal: forgive me, just one sec... brb
    Tarmel Udimo: nods
Lucinda Lavender: I can be here only a short time, my coworker is ill and we have been arranging the day.
Darren Islar: bring some coffee with you Eliza !
Pema Pera: thanks for dropping by, Lucinda!
SophiaSharon Larnia: nice to see you Lucinda, I don't remember meeting you? nice to see you
    Lucinda Lavender: happy to

Lucinda Lavender: Sharon i appreciate the umbrella in these dusty times...
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes, all that falling debris
    Pema Pera: silvery ash :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hehe
Tarmel Udimo: just had the most amazing experience
    SophiaSharon Larnia: oh?
Darren Islar: if you can put that umbrella over Europe....
Darren Islar: that would be nice
Tarmel Udimo: went to this dinner party, i was a ring
    Eliza Madrigal: :) back... listening...
Tarmel Udimo: in and ended up meeting someone who actually knew alot of people from my childhood
Tarmel Udimo: this doesn't mean much to people who live in the place or country they grew up in
    Widget Whiteberry nods
Tarmel Udimo: but as a migrant is was like a whole side of myself that had buried came to life
Eliza Madrigal: Really nice, Tarmel! wow...
Tarmel Udimo: it left me quite shaken
Tarmel Udimo: (too many red wines:)
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
    Darren Islar: :-)
Pema Pera: :-) but yes, I know the feeling
SophiaSharon Larnia: wow Tarmel, yes that is intense
Tarmel Udimo: yes I am tingling inside

SophiaSharon Larnia: we think we leave a bit of self behind, as time goes by
Eliza Madrigal: it must be startling, even now thinking about it
Tarmel Udimo: it is a good and also upseting feeling
SophiaSharon Larnia: when its always there
Tarmel Udimo: like long lost bubbles rising to the surface
    Lucinda Lavender: ah!
Darren Islar: something has beeen touched that was almost forgotten?
Widget Whiteberry: what is the upsetting part?
    Tarmel Udimo: yes
Eliza Madrigal: hmmm, yes I imagine
Eliza Madrigal: I'm sometimes quite thrown when someone remembers me that I can't place...
    Eliza Madrigal: its unnerving
Darren Islar: I an understand the upsetting part too
    Darren Islar: wow
Tarmel Udimo: yes perhaps that a better way of putting
Tarmel Udimo: when I say upsetting I use the wrong words
    Widget Whiteberry listens quietly
Tarmel Udimo: its like stiring up the coffee grins in a cup
SophiaSharon Larnia: maybe upsetyting in the sense of off balance :)
    Tarmel Udimo: grinds
    SophiaSharon Larnia: upsetting*
    Tarmel Udimo: yes off balance
Eliza Madrigal: yes, makes much sense
Eliza Madrigal: and yet enhilarating in its way
    Tarmel Udimo: yes!

Eliza Madrigal: Will you keep contact with these new friends ?
Widget Whiteberry: Tarmel, does the off balance feeling stay with you?
Tarmel Udimo: well its still here
    Widget Whiteberry: ☆smiles☆
Tarmel Udimo: and yes i will keep in contact for sure
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Lucinda Lavender: adrenylin?
Tarmel Udimo: the guy is working with homeless kids
Tarmel Udimo: and is looking for people to do workshops:)
Darren Islar: sounds you both also hit it of
Widget Whiteberry: sounds to me like a reconnection with a part of your life you thougth left behind --- opening new possible paths for you

Tarmel Udimo: yes very much so
Tarmel Udimo: also those old pathways had been disconnected
Tarmel Udimo: so new pathways have been formed in a new way
Tarmel Udimo: hence the release of energy

Eliza Madrigal: In a way, I guess everyone we meet has that same potential, but some little connection might open it up
    Tarmel Udimo: yes
Tarmel Udimo: well as Pema says why wait
    Pema Pera: :-)
Tarmel Udimo: one can connect in every instant:)
Widget Whiteberry: I feel a greater tug when those connections reach into my past
    Tarmel Udimo: yes
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Darren Islar: especially wen your not connected to it any more
    Darren Islar: *when
    Tarmel Udimo: nods
Widget Whiteberry: even if I don't remember the other person, the fact that they remember me is powerful .... especially if there is some depth to their remembrance
    Eliza Madrigal: Ah, true

Lucinda Lavender: maybe a younger self in it openness feels remembered
Eliza Madrigal: sweet idea, Lucinda :)
Widget Whiteberry: yes, I think so, Lucinda
Tarmel Udimo: yes or even the opposite:)

SophiaSharon Larnia: i get a scared when i see someone from long ago, ive changed so much in the years
Tarmel Udimo: a youngerself who couldn't open up:)
    Lucinda Lavender: oh...
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, yes to both
    Tarmel Udimo: why sacred Sophia
Darren Islar: oh... that makes it really powerful
SophiaSharon Larnia: i used to be a little more wild
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: laughs
    Widget Whiteberry: rl distraction, brb
    Tarmel Udimo: :))
Darren Islar: of course you're shaken up
    Pema Pera smiles at Sharon

Darren Islar: like you find somethig old and blow the dust off
SophiaSharon Larnia: wouldnt want someone to still think i was that way haha
    Tarmel Udimo: hey why not?:))))))
SophiaSharon Larnia: true Tarmel! but theres a line i guess
    SophiaSharon Larnia: somewhere
    Eliza Madrigal: hahah
    Tarmel Udimo: hahaha yeah somewhere

Pema Pera: in some way -- different, yet still perhaps somewhat similar -- when we meet an SL friend for the first time in RL, there is also a strange kind of intensity of connection and disconnection, a jump in some way between different parts of past and present contacts
Pema Pera: we are all immigrants here, after all
SophiaSharon Larnia: even if the line is 'imposed' and is artifical
Tarmel Udimo: yes very true Pema
    Eliza Madrigal: Indeed, Pema!
    SophiaSharon Larnia: nods
Eliza Madrigal: sharon, its interesting though... to see which lines we draw are arbitrary, etc
Tarmel Udimo: and yet when we see each other in SL do we "remember"the face of the Rl persona?
Eliza Madrigal: hm, sure... like added texture
SophiaSharon Larnia: during the 90 seconds, seeing blurry lines like outlined in smoke or mist
Lucinda Lavender: sometimes it has seemed to me that waves of recconection happen...
    SophiaSharon Larnia: waves, like reoccuring?
Lucinda Lavender: um...like people from a certain part of life show up near to each other in time
    SophiaSharon Larnia: syncronistic *smiles*
Eliza Madrigal considers Tarmel's question and thinks about how when Sharon types "smiles" or "laughs" I can see that in more dimensions...
    Lucinda Lavender: maybe so
Eliza Madrigal: I've noticed that too Lucinda... or that if you open a door with one person, others rush in
SophiaSharon Larnia gets shy again at any mention of her name
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hehe
    Lucinda Lavender: yes
Eliza Madrigal smiles and apologizes :)
Lucinda Lavender: kind of like a tide
    SophiaSharon Larnia: yes
Tarmel Udimo: yes like a tide:)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Yidam
    Darren Islar: hi Yidam
    Yidam Nightfire: hi!
    Pema Pera: morning, Yidam!
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Yidam :)
    Lucinda Lavender: hi Yidam
    Tarmel Udimo: hi
Eliza Madrigal: Thank you for sharing that experience Tarmel... sparks so many associations
    Tarmel Udimo: no worries!
Fox Monacular: yes, thank you Tarmel:) as a migrant myself, it is a very familiar experience. and very uncanny:)
Tarmel Udimo: I feel better now, sharing with my PaB friends
    Tarmel Udimo: :))
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
Darren Islar: thanks Tarmel and everyone
    Darren Islar: Ineed to go
    Pema Pera: :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Darren, have fun on the beach ^.^
    Pema Pera: bye Darren!
    Fox Monacular: take care, Darren
Eliza Madrigal: I've never been one to want to go to reunions and such, but I find myself lately more open to those surprise encounters...
    Lucinda Lavender: :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Bye Darren :)
    Tarmel Udimo: bye
    Tarmel Udimo: yes
    Lucinda Lavender: bye
Tarmel Udimo: well I too must put myself to be, a long day tomorrow
Tarmel Udimo: nice to see you all
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye tarmel :)
Eliza Madrigal: I looked up a girl from hm... jr high school, sometime last year... remembering a story she wrote, wondering if she became a writer ...
    Eliza Madrigal: Bye Tarmel :))
Pema Pera: bye Tarmel, so good to see/hear you again!
    Yidam Nightfire: Bye Tarmel
    Tarmel Udimo: yes
Fox Monacular: bye Tarmel, and bye everyone, I have to go as well :)
Tarmel Udimo: and did she Eliza?
    Lucinda Lavender: :)
Eliza Madrigal: Yes! A graphic artist as well
    Tarmel Udimo: great!
    Pema Pera: how nice!
    Widget Whiteberry: farewell!
    Tarmel Udimo: bfn
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Fox :)
Eliza Madrigal: yes, it was wonderful to connect with her :)
Lucinda Lavender: bye Tarmel...thanks for sharing
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Widget
    Widget Whiteberry: bye!
Eliza Madrigal: Bye Fox and Widget
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Pema Pera: bye Fox, Widget!
    Yidam Nightfire: Bye
Widget Whiteberry: since we are breaking up, I think I will move along too
SophiaSharon Larnia: and hello Calvino :) long time no see
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Calvino...
Pema Pera: hi & bye Cal !
    Eliza Madrigal: Bye Pema :)
    Pema Pera: and bye everybody!
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye bye Pema
    Lucinda Lavender: good bye all...
Eliza Madrigal is not breaking up just yet
Yidam Nightfire: Bye Pema...good to see u
    Eliza Madrigal giggles
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hehe Eliza
Eliza Madrigal: Bye Lucinda :) thanks for sharing
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Lucinda :))
Lucinda Lavender: yes nice to meet you...

SophiaSharon Larnia: how are your travels Calvino??
Lucinda Lavender: I look forward to hearing of your travels Cal...but I have to get to work:(
Yidam Nightfire: where have u been going?

SophiaSharon Larnia: is there more being there ;0
Calvino Rabeni: @SSL, the grass only seems greener on the oher side :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: smiles
Eliza Madrigal: How has the political climate been since you arrived, Cal?
SophiaSharon Larnia: and sticks her tongue out at Eliza haha
Calvino Rabeni: But, seeming is believing :)
    Eliza Madrigal: haha
Eliza Madrigal: Cal is in Thailand, Yidam... not sure if the question was seen?
Calvino Rabeni: The protesters seem to be getting their way
    Yidam Nightfire: wow
Calvino Rabeni: It is a practical, not so dogmatic approach
    Eliza Madrigal: how so?
Calvino Rabeni: One big politician said - We *could* declare martial law, but if no one will listen, what good would it do?
    Calvino Rabeni: For example
Calvino Rabeni: That's contingent thinking, not a rigid policy
    Eliza Madrigal: hm, interesting
Calvino Rabeni: If you read the Thai papers (translated ) - well they hve a sightly differnt implied view of how things work
Eliza Madrigal: I've travelled so little, comparatively... but living in Miami I've seen many cultural shifts and been able to spend time with many diverse groups/families
SophiaSharon Larnia: im off nice to see you all :))
    Eliza Madrigal: Bye Sharon :))
    Yidam Nightfire: Bye Sharon
    Calvino Rabeni: :)) SSL
Eliza Madrigal: (love that outfit of hers)
    Yidam Nightfire: liked her skin
Calvino Rabeni: The reporting has a - to me - somewhat folksy flavour
    Eliza Madrigal: folksy?
    Eliza Madrigal: personal?
Calvino Rabeni: Yes like regular people having opinions, not like US where language is very formalizeed and you don't know "who" is behind it
Eliza Madrigal: Ah... mass ass covering
    Eliza Madrigal: hahah
    Eliza Madrigal snorts
    Yidam Nightfire: less mis direction?
Eliza Madrigal: In the US we use news to conceal things
    Calvino Rabeni: RIght
Eliza Madrigal: we share so *much* as to overwhelm, all the while sharing little
Calvino Rabeni: The news is a facade of something like propaganda - formalized sound bytes that are what people are supposed to hear under prescribed conditions
Calvino Rabeni: But more rooted in rhatoric than reality
Calvino Rabeni: That is what I mean by "formal"
Yidam Nightfire: our "news" is a shotgun blast of a million agendas
Calvino Rabeni: Rule based, like, if this happens then you are supposed to and expected to say that.
    Eliza Madrigal: great imagery, Yidam
Eliza Madrigal: And I notice at the moment that there IS freedom in seeing it...
    Eliza Madrigal: in noticing it
    Yidam Nightfire: :)
Calvino Rabeni: Seeing other countries / cultures helps to understand one's own by comparison
Eliza Madrigal: It seems you are making a lot of observations in that area this trip, Cal

Calvino Rabeni: That thre's more than one way to X X X.
    Yidam Nightfire: xxx?
Eliza Madrigal: Hm, maybe this would be a good time to bid good day... haha
Calvino Rabeni: Fill in the blank - american idiom, e.g. skin a cat, or bol an egg, or etc.
Eliza Madrigal: ( I can always read the log ) hahah
Calvino Rabeni: Not meanng X rated :)
    Yidam Nightfire: ah
    Yidam Nightfire: i see
Eliza Madrigal: I should actually go... have a theme session with Liza later
    Yidam Nightfire: thanks for hosting
Eliza Madrigal: Nice to see you Yidam
    Eliza Madrigal: thanks for coming
Eliza Madrigal: And you too Cal :)
Eliza Madrigal: Happy adventures to you both
Calvino Rabeni: Thanks - See you later E and Y
    Calvino Rabeni: Take care
Eliza Madrigal waves "Bye for now" You too! Be safe
