The session was attended by Wol Euler, Yakuzza Lethecus, Qt Core, Archmage Atlantis, Darren Islar, Bleu Oleander, Mickorod Renard, and Arabella Ella. The Guardian for this meeting was SophiaSharon Larnia.

The session started out slow....  Wol and Arabella livened things up with their descriptions of seeing the Dalai Lama (Wol) and the Pope (Arabella). It's not to point to any comparisons, as this was definitely not the topic here to do so ... but the conversational threads here were interesting.

    SophiaSharon Larnia: hi Wol :)
    Wol Euler: hello sharon
    Wol Euler: great outfit, btw
Wol Euler: I meant to say something yesterday but didn't get around to it
    SophiaSharon Larnia: thanks!
SophiaSharon Larnia: funny how you dress one way with another account, and it feels so alien on another
    Wol Euler nods
Wol Euler: they have their own styles, and their own ideas
SophiaSharon Larnia: when the typist is the same
Wol Euler: ah, but is s/he? :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: smiles
    SophiaSharon Larnia: not really!
    Wol Euler nods and grins
SophiaSharon Larnia: I had some weird idea of intergration
    Wol Euler: mmm?
SophiaSharon Larnia: didnt come here with any topic in mind
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hi Yakuzza
    Wol Euler: hello yaku
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey everyone
SophiaSharon Larnia wonders what is underneath Yak shirt, i see some net lol
Yakuzza Lethecus: didn´t know how to make it black
Yakuzza Lethecus: i´ve worn a dress before
Yakuzza Lethecus: and had to make me black again
Yakuzza Lethecus: i don´t have this in a ,,full dress"
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hi Archmage
Yakuzza Lethecus: how can i make that bodypart black ?
SophiaSharon Larnia: im not sure what you mean Yak, clothes or body part?
Wol Euler: try raising the waistband of your pants, or lowering the hem of your shirt
    Archmage Atlantis: Freefalling
Wol Euler: I assume you mean your stripe of belly?
    Yakuzza Lethecus: yeah
    Qt Core: hi all
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hi Qt
Wol Euler: either your pants are too low or your shirt is too high, ther is no special piece of clothing for it.
Archmage Atlantis: I once asked a dear friend what it is to be a prophet
    Wol Euler: hello arch
Archmage Atlantis: Shem, a RL she, said to "tell truth"
SophiaSharon Larnia: its often that you'll think of something, in passing usually, and later it'll be 'true' or 'occur'
SophiaSharon Larnia: i think it happens to everyone
Archmage Atlantis: I need to ask snakes and dragons to leave
    Archmage Atlantis: One moment
SophiaSharon Larnia: talk to them nicely or they may bite ;p
Archmage Atlantis: Yea, they bite if I don't present their place in this planet
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hi Darren
    Darren Islar: hi everyone
    Wol Euler: hello darren
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey darren
    Qt Core: hi darren
    Bleu Oleander: hi everyone :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hi Bleu
    Qt Core: hi Bleu
    Archmage Atlantis: Hi
    Darren Islar: hi Bleu
Archmage Atlantis: I get confused about male and female here
SophiaSharon Larnia: very easy to do
Archmage Atlantis: Is that a topic?
    Wol Euler: hello bleu
    Bleu Oleander: hi Wol
Qt Core: tell more about it arch, what confuse you ?
    Archmage Atlantis: Ok
    Archmage Atlantis: In my life
Archmage Atlantis: Both men and women were strong
Archmage Atlantis: Now We are supposed to include the mammals
SophiaSharon Larnia: am very silent today, spent several hours digging dirt on my garden and am pleasantly tired :)
Qt Core: (i hope you didn't do that with that outfit)
SophiaSharon Larnia: seeing being in the feel of the shovel, the light dancing through the leaves
Archmage Atlantis: Soon we will be asked to include the reptiles, the amphipians, the fish
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :) Qt
Qt Core: including in what, Arch, i may have lost your line of thought
Archmage Atlantis: OH , AND THE BIRDS
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hi Kenji
SophiaSharon Larnia: long time no see :)
    Wol Euler: hello Kenji
    Darren Islar: hi kenji
    Bleu Oleander: hi kenji
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes Arch Im a bit lost too
Archmage Atlantis: SSharon we have ben in many nmeeting rother
    Wol Euler: hello mick
    Darren Islar: hey Mick
    Mickorod Renard: Hi:)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hi Mick
    Darren Islar: huh?
    Qt Core: hi mick
Mickorod Renard: everyone ok..havin a nice weekend?
Darren Islar: just dreses an avatar of a friend of mine
    Wol Euler: passable.
SophiaSharon Larnia: am covered in dirt at the moment from working outside, a little too tired to move ^.^
Darren Islar: very nice to do :-)
Mickorod Renard: Wol,,r u supposed to be where you are?
Mickorod Renard: lol SSL,,I know what u mean
Wol Euler: one can see it that way, yes.
Wol Euler: I know my boss is glad to see me staying in Germany
Mickorod Renard: ohh nooo,,thats what I was wondering
    Darren Islar: sorry Wol
    Wol Euler nods
    Wol Euler: ty
Mickorod Renard: I cant think of anything to say Wol
SophiaSharon Larnia: i wish there was a way you could tele conference, definately not the same thing!
    Wol Euler: well, shit happens.
    Wol Euler shrugs
Mickorod Renard: yea..but u had probs with flights for the malta trip too
Wol Euler: there's no point in getting angry about it or whatever, so I am not.
    Mickorod Renard: thats true,,
Mickorod Renard: there will be more occasions
Darren Islar: didn't you plan to see the Dalai Lama too?
Wol Euler: oh, I did that :)
Wol Euler: last weekend, in Zurich
Wol Euler: that worked fine :)
    Darren Islar: ah :-)
    Darren Islar: glad to hear
SophiaSharon Larnia: can you say more about that Wol?

Wol describes her experience seeing the Dalai Lama in Zürich, Switzerland...

    Wol Euler: well :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: or is it in the logs?
Wol Euler: it was quite interesting
Wol Euler: he has his own style and speed of discourse, and you have to adjust yourself downward to that
Wol Euler: I'll be honest, it took me a while to warm to him, much as I wanted to
    Wol Euler: but I did.
Wol Euler: He has a ... an aura, perhaps.
    Darren Islar: :_)
SophiaSharon Larnia: I saw him in PA, he does speak in an almost monotone, with a heavy accent
Mickorod Renard: did you have a personal audience with him?
    Wol Euler laughs.
    Wol Euler: um, no.
    Mickorod Renard: oh..ok
    Mickorod Renard: :)
Wol Euler: unless you mean "personal with about 18000 people together"
    Mickorod Renard: wow
Darren Islar: it can feel special when you're around a great teacher
    Mickorod Renard: popular chap
Darren Islar: no matter how they talk :-)
Wol Euler: I was amazed at the number of Tibetans in the audience, quite a few thousand
Darren Islar: some monks follow teachers over the world
Wol Euler: HH spoke in English, occasionally asking a fellow monk who was onstage with him to translate a word or two from Tibetan
Wol Euler: then a translator (swiss man) who had been taking shorthand, read that back "live" in German. I was impressed.
    SophiaSharon Larnia: wow
    Wol Euler: yeah, really.
    Mickorod Renard: yea..nice
    Darren Islar: :-)
Wol Euler: HH talked about responsibility and sharing
Wol Euler: in the context of world poverty and also the 2008 banking crash
Wol Euler: and also about Tibet and the Chinese
Darren Islar is starting to feel warm inside
Wol Euler: he's been in exile longer than I have been alive.
Bleu Oleander: what were some of the most important take home messages for you?
Wol Euler: but he is not bitter or angry, not at all. That is amazing to me
    SophiaSharon Larnia: nods
    Darren Islar: yes, it is
    Darren Islar: pure Compassion
    Wol Euler: mmhmm
Wol Euler: message? I'm not sure. Perhaps simply his living example.
Mickorod Renard: In some odd way,,it could be seen as a route to take buddhism into the outside world,,the exile
Wol Euler: because the odd thing is that apart from his Dalai Lama-ness, he is a very ordinary man
Wol Euler: he reminded me of my father
SophiaSharon Larnia: did they chant? I heard him do some deep chanting, and I vibrated to the roots of my hair
Wol Euler: no chanting, not this time.
    arabella Ella: Hiya
    Bleu Oleander: hi Ara
    Darren Islar: hi Ara
    Qt Core: hi Ara
Wol Euler: a tibetan children's choir started the afternoon off, then he spoke for an hour, then Q&A
    Wol Euler: hello ara
    Mickorod Renard: Hi Ara
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hi Ara
    Darren Islar: Q&A
    Darren Islar: ?
    SophiaSharon Larnia: oh nice
    Wol Euler: question and answer
Wol Euler: only about five Qs, he was getting tired by the end, sitting very slumped in his chair, as my father does
    SophiaSharon Larnia: ooh
SophiaSharon Larnia: it must be exhausting
    Darren Islar: :-)
    Wol Euler: mmhmm
Wol Euler: I was thinking about my describing him as "ordinary"
Wol Euler: I mean that he's not physically impressive in the way that actors and politicians learn to be
Wol Euler: if he weren't Dalai Lama he would pass unnoticed in the street
Wol Euler: but once he starts speaking, he has a definite grace and power
Mickorod Renard: even in his strange clothing?
Wol Euler: well, ok, that would be a clue.
    Darren Islar: :-)
    Mickorod Renard: :)
arabella Ella: what language did he speak Wol?
    Wol Euler: english
Darren Islar: not in Dharamsala :-)
Wol Euler: asked his colleage for a word out of Tibetan a few times
SophiaSharon Larnia: how lovely to help out that way
    Wol Euler nods and smiles
Darren Islar finds himself only smiling

SophiaSharon Larnia: what was the atmosphere like, can you paint a picture?
    Wol Euler: familial :)
Wol Euler: the Tibetans were maybe a sixth or more of the audience
Wol Euler: they were dressed up in their finery
Wol Euler: and had their kids along, also dressed to the nines
Wol Euler: and the kids ran about and played inthe aisles, and everyone was cool about that.
    Mickorod Renard: I love that
Wol Euler: the stadium is extremely intimate, very steeply raked, despite the capacity it feels small and cosy
Wol Euler: there were mega-TV screens scattered around, but he wasn't too far away to see
Wol Euler: it felt comfortable, not like a rally or whatever
SophiaSharon Larnia: smiles and hears laughter
Wol Euler: almost all the audience spoke English well enough to follow HH directly, they could have done without the translator
Wol Euler: 95 percent of hte reactoins came as HH spoke, only 5% or so had to wait for the German version
Mickorod Renard: that sounds lovely,,I missed a chance for a similar rally in Leicester uk last year
Wol Euler: if the chance comes up again, take it.
    Darren Islar: :-)
    Mickorod Renard: ok, i will,,ty

arabella Ella: well I saw the Pope today as he is visiting 'Europe's most catholic nation' this weekend
    Mickorod Renard: cool
arabella Ella: will probably see him again tomorrow
arabella Ella: any messages for him?
SophiaSharon Larnia: and what nation is that Ara? grins
arabella Ella: (or should i not have said that?)
Mickorod Renard: did he go especially to see the huge Penis Ara?
    arabella Ella: he he
    Darren Islar: hahah
arabella Ella: yes Mick the 'colonna mediterranea' made this lil rock famous these past days
Mickorod Renard: there has been some scandle yes?
arabella Ella: quite a few yes
Mickorod Renard: and will he have a big meet,,maybe at the footy stadium?
arabella Ella: there has been quite a lot of coverage in international media about all this
Mickorod Renard: the collone isnt meant to be a penis then?
Wol Euler: I bet he won't go to any schools.
    Wol Euler bites her tongue.
arabella Ella: welll ... ironically ... there was a crowd of 5K kids to welcome him in the town square today
Mickorod Renard: is it not something he does,,vist schools?
Mickorod Renard: Ahhh,,sorry, just got it
    Wol Euler: :)
    Mickorod Renard: he he
arabella Ella: Mick .... I dont think I should speak of male 'crown jewels' on chat log :)
    Mickorod Renard: ok,,sorry
arabella Ella: oh Malta just been mentioned on Euronews headlines
    Mickorod Renard: wow
arabella Ella: same headline also mentioned scandals
    Mickorod Renard: lol
    Bleu Oleander: c u all :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Bleu
    Qt Core: bye bleu
Wol Euler: bye bleu, take care
    arabella Ella: bye Bleu
    Darren Islar: bye bleu
SophiaSharon Larnia: thank you Wol! for the lovely picture :))
Mickorod Renard: but I guess it is a very special event for a large percentage of people in Malta?
    Mickorod Renard: bye blu
    Wol Euler: yw, sharon
Darren Islar: well, let me get the symmetry right by getting off :-)
    Mickorod Renard: by Darren
    Darren Islar: cy :-)
SophiaSharon Larnia: have to go too, bye for now all!
arabella Ella: yes Mick Malta is the most catholic nation in europe with over 50% going to church on sundays and 95% claiming to be catholic
    Qt Core: :-) Darren, bye
Darren Islar: thanks Wol for sharing
    arabella Ella: bye Darren
Wol Euler: bye darren, take care
    Mickorod Renard: thats amazing
Mickorod Renard: isnt Italy very catholic too?
    Qt Core: formally
arabella Ella: yes but italy has become much more liberal ... and they have divorce, we dont
    Mickorod Renard: I see

Mickorod Renard: does the Dali Lama answer the same old questions every time u think Wol?
Mickorod Renard: like there is a standard set of questions that the public ask
Wol Euler: probably, I'd think that the same kind of people go to hear him, by and large
Wol Euler: and they would have the same general problems
Wol Euler: but if so, he gave no sign of it.
    Mickorod Renard: wow
Mickorod Renard: so does he convey a message,,?
    Mickorod Renard: like love etc
    Wol Euler thinks.
Wol Euler: I'd say "yes", but it's hard to put it down in simple words
    Mickorod Renard: ok, thanks
Wol Euler: though actually he used only very simple words :)
Wol Euler: responsibility would be one part of the answer, definitely
Wol Euler: we are responsible for what we do, and for what we allow to happen
Mickorod Renard: and what about the Pope Ara,,does he give blessings,,or does he answer questions,,or give messages?
arabella Ella: this is the link to the 'monument' which Mick referred to
    arabella Ella: http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles...en-with-banner
Mickorod Renard: thats interesting Wol,,,the bit about what we alow to happen
arabella Ella: there is a short video but partially in english partially in Maltese
    Mickorod Renard: thanks Ara
Mickorod Renard: I remember encroaching on that bit,,maybe with Stim in the past
arabella Ella: the Pope will be meeting youth from different sectors (including those who feel 'far' from the church) tomorrow and answering their questions
    Wol Euler nods.
    Mickorod Renard: thats good Ara

Mickorod Renard: yes,,its a bit of a conundrum for me,,just when to step in to stop things that look wrong
arabella Ella: but i guess those who are really marginalised will simply refuse to participate in any of the weekend events
    Mickorod Renard: yes?,,why's that Ara?
arabella Ella: obvious reasons mick ... if you feel alienated by the church why bother to be present at any sort of church events?
arabella Ella: but still the Pope is drawing quite large crowds
Mickorod Renard: yes, but some people do like the spectacle also
arabella Ella: yes ... i enjoy the spectacle too
Mickorod Renard: I am not catholic,,but when i was in rome last, i did go to see him
arabella Ella: (apologies to wol for all the cross-chat)
arabella Ella: (must be quiet for a while)
    Wol Euler: no, please do.
    Wol Euler: I'm done
Wol Euler: struggling with a lot of IMs
Mickorod Renard: I would like to get clear in my head one day, just how much I should make myself responsible for stepping in to sort problems out
    Wol Euler: it's tricky, Mick.
    Mickorod Renard: yes
arabella Ella: whose probelms Mick ... yours or those of other people?
Wol Euler: you have to be very sure that the other people know that they have a problem
Wol Euler: and that they actually want it solved
Wol Euler: least of all by you :)
Mickorod Renard: well, its in reference to what the Dali Lama said
arabella Ella: i also think people appreciate suggestions for solving problems but they may rarely take advice from others ... let along imposition of solutions
Mickorod Renard: This is true Ara, but should we be complacent just cos there is a risk of rejection?
arabella Ella: i dont think you understood mick
Wol Euler: not complacency, Mick; but be sure that your intervention is welcomed
arabella Ella: my message was that offering advice and suggestions one still needs to allow others the freedom to adopt or reject it
Mickorod Renard: should it be on the basis of being welcomed though?
Wol Euler: better than being imposed from on high. Because perhaps your interpretation is wrong.
Wol Euler: perhaps they don't think it is a problem-
arabella Ella: at the risk of sounding gender biased ... some males tend to see problem solutions where others (females perhaps) may just be playing around with an idea in their head (with no concrete problem at all)
Mickorod Renard: the funny thing is, I know in the past I have told someone to mind their own business, but afterwards its made me reflect, and take onboard their correct observations
    Wol Euler: :)
Wol Euler: it's a fine balance, to be sure.
arabella Ella: yes advice offered is always food for thought
Mickorod Renard: but I guess the Dali Lama was refering to world issues?
Mickorod Renard: like for eg,,should we as a species put up with a few power brokers destroying our planet?
    Wol Euler: not necessarily :)
Wol Euler: he crosses scales fluently.
    Yakuzza Lethecus: night
Wol Euler: starts talking about two people looking at each other, continues with social classes and entire continents
    Mickorod Renard: nite nite yaku
Wol Euler: then back to the couple
Wol Euler: bye yaku, sleep well
    arabella Ella: nite Yaku

Mickorod Renard: well,,its funny,,almost fractal,,the world is like a family
    Wol Euler: mmmhmm
Wol Euler: and like a family, we might not like each other that much, but we have to pull together :)
    arabella Ella: mmmmmmmmm
Mickorod Renard: do you think there may be some wierd conspiracy with all these flights bein cancelled Wol?
    Wol Euler: no.
    Wol Euler: sorry :)
Wol Euler: there is too much corroboration from too many outside sources in too many places
Mickorod Renard: yes,,thats jusrt it Wol,,we shouldnt just fob off the world just cos its big and detached from our immeadiate concerns
arabella Ella: but surely other volcanos often erupt in other parts of the world
arabella Ella: what is so special about this one?
Wol Euler: simple: this one is dragging its plume through very densely populated areas
Wol Euler: most volcano plumes extend across open sea or deserts
    Wol Euler: (statistically)
Mickorod Renard: the sky above me the last couple of days have been wonderful,,and blue
arabella Ella: i dunno i feel this is such a weird situation ... never encountered before
    Wol Euler: sure: no contrails.
    Mickorod Renard: thats true
Wol Euler: during the week after 9/11 when all American planes were grounded, there was around 8% less precipitation
Wol Euler: I'd have to look up the exact figure but it was around that mark
Mickorod Renard: excuse my ignorance,,but what do u mean by prrecipitation Wol?
    Wol Euler: rainfall
Wol Euler: or snow, acording to region
    Mickorod Renard: sorry,,thanks
Mickorod Renard: they should fly over deesrts more
    Wol Euler: yeah, really
    Mickorod Renard: deserts
    Wol Euler: share the wealth
    Mickorod Renard: he he
Wol Euler: my dears, I must move on, time is passing.
Wol Euler: take care, be happy.
Mickorod Renard: and U wol,,have a good weekend
Qt Core: bye wol, have fun
    arabella Ella: nite Wol
Qt Core: time to go, bye Ara, Mick
    Mickorod Renard: nite qt
    arabella Ella: notte Qt
    Mickorod Renard: take care
