The Guardian for this meeting was Storm Nordwind, recently returned from retreat and grateful for the people who filled in for him during the three weeks he was away. The comments are by Storm Nordwind.

There's a warm welcome for me, and a little confusion about where'd I'd been geographically.

    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey eden
    Eden Haiku: hey Yaku!
Yakuzza Lethecus: i will cook coffee, brb
Eden Haiku: Me tea brb too ;))
Yakuzza Lethecus: coffee is running through, thx for the message in the group
    --BELL--
Eden Haiku: You are welcome. There is an enthusiastic response to your project!
    Storm Nordwind: Hi there!
    Bleu Oleander: hi all!
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey storm
Bleu Oleander: how is your retreat Storm?
Storm Nordwind: Finished now - and excellent thank you!
    Bleu Oleander: great!
Eden Haiku: HI Bleu, ((((Storm)))) so nice to have you back!
    Storm Nordwind smiles!
Yakuzza Lethecus: so ur already home or still over in asia ?
    Bleu Oleander: hey Eden
Storm Nordwind: Hmmm... I was never in Asia - at least not for a couple of years! :)
    Yakuzza Lethecus: ah, ok :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: i somehow thought the mountains were in asia :D
Storm Nordwind: No - in the mountains in the USA :)

During the chat about happy hours and salons, I change back from a tonsured maroon clad monk to the 'normal' look.
Bleu Oleander: hey Yaku and Eden .... great idea to have a happy hour!
Bleu Oleander: i'll try to come
Bleu Oleander: where will it be?
    Eden Haiku: yeahhh!
Yakuzza Lethecus: thx bleu, you remember i mentioned something in that direction to you before, good that i have eden
Yakuzza Lethecus: she nailed me on that idea and brought the plan to actuality :)
Bleu Oleander: yes, in fact we're going to start one on Sunday evenings
Eden Haiku: Storm is changing clothes just like Superman minus the phonebooth!
    Storm Nordwind chuckles
Eden Haiku: Sunday evenings voice chat Bleu?
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Yakuzza Lethecus: happy hour on spiritofthesenses ?
Bleu Oleander: after your wonderful salon we had many request
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Yakuzza Lethecus: it was so sad that nobody ever came to the happyhours in the kira cafe
Bleu Oleander: just you and me Yaku most of the time
Eden Haiku: That, good news Bleu, you will let us know what times?
Yakuzza Lethecus: so i really enjoyed talking to you back then :)
    Bleu Oleander: me too :)
Eden Haiku: Yaku's happy hour will be in the pavilion here, right before his regular PaB session.
Storm Nordwind: Do we need to advertize it on the Kira Calendar?
Bleu Oleander: I think we will try it at 7 pm and maybe an earlier time too
Bleu Oleander: your happy hour is at noon ?
    Bleu Oleander: on fridays?
Yakuzza Lethecus: I don´t know, i would prefer it keep it to play as being
Yakuzza Lethecus: It´s still open but i it´s tricky if too many ppl come
Yakuzza Lethecus: voice will usually only work well in smaller groups, not that i would push ppl away, it´s just tricky since i like to even talk about myself and that doesn´t exclude newcomers but isn´t that comfortable
Bleu Oleander: where will it be?
Eden Haiku: Here, in the pavilion Bleu.

Eden naturally wants to know about my retreat. I had managed to get some short impressions out to my friends in the twittersphere, echoing her own tweets from her sojourns in India earlier in the year.
Eden Haiku: Storm, what was the higlight of your retreat? The juniper smoke in the mornings, the piece of dharma wheel? It wa so nice having a few glances through your Tweets!
Storm Nordwind: So many highlights Eden - perhaps one long highlight! Amazing teacher teaching amazing content to an amazing sangha in an amazing location! :)
    Eden Haiku: Wow, amazing! ;))
    Bleu Oleander: sounds pretty amazing!!
    Storm Nordwind: hehe!
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Eden Haiku: A rose is a rose is a rose is...
Storm Nordwind: I have 'adopted' Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche as my teacher - simply because I have never come across anyone else of that quality for me
Eden Haiku: Oh that is wonderful. How is he?
Storm Nordwind: He speaks a little English but was speaking mostly in Tibetan
Storm Nordwind: And - amazingly - although there was an official translator, he was surrounded by three world-famous translators :)
Storm Nordwind: So it was (as one translator said) almost an embarassment of riches!
Eden Haiku: I,m sure you picked up a lot of Tibetan listening to him and being in such an atmosphere!
    --BELL--
Yakuzza Lethecus: do you see teachers as teachers storm or still as guides or how do you think about ,,teachers" ?
Storm Nordwind: Yak... when we walk a 'spiritual' path, perhaps it's a little like following a path on a hillside. I guess we often stumble because our view of the path is unclear due to karma. A teacher is simply one with a clearer view of the path, and the direction and the overall vision
    Yakuzza Lethecus: good morning lucinda

Lucinda arrives and it's an opportunity for "snap!" (or "jinx!", as I'm informed would be the case in the US).
    Eden Haiku: Hi Lucinda!
    Bleu Oleander: hi Lucinda
    Storm Nordwind: Hi Lucinda!
Eden Haiku: make a wish Bleu, we talked simuataneously!
Lucinda Lavender: good morning Yakkuzza, Storm, Beu, Eden!
    Eden Haiku: At 7:17!
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Storm Nordwind recalls that, as a child, when that happened we were supposed to link little fingers while making the wish!
Bleu Oleander: yes! we did too!
Eden Haiku: Was doing that in my mind with Bleu just now!
Eden Haiku: Do children still do that Lucinda?
Lucinda Lavender: yes I think so!
Bleu Oleander: I was thinking how sl brings out many past memories
    Eden Haiku: Yes ;)
Lucinda Lavender: they like the rules to follow?
Storm Nordwind mumbles that perhaps his age does that too ;)
Lucinda Lavender: the ones that link them...
    Eden Haiku: ;)

Eden tells us of a dream.
Eden Haiku: An image from a dream as I woke up: was going slowwwwly through a very dense matter.
    Lucinda Lavender: like rock?
Storm Nordwind: like Denver traffic? ;)
Eden Haiku: No...like, something like a cloud of ashes in fact...
    Storm Nordwind: Oh!
Eden Haiku: But was not suffocating.
Eden Haiku: Some grey matter, just slowing my movements...
Storm Nordwind: What significance do ashes have for you?
Eden Haiku: hummm...What comes to mind: the cloud in Iceland, my mother's ashes...
Eden Haiku: Sacred ashes on foreheads in India.
Storm Nordwind: Whichever it is, it seems to say there is nothing to fear
Eden Haiku: Right, that was not frightening at all.
Storm Nordwind: And that you passed through it
    Eden Haiku: Yes ;))
Lucinda Lavender: moving through grey matter also...
Eden Haiku: Did you remember your dreams in the retreat Storm?
Eden Haiku: Yes Lucinda, breaking new ground in the mind. ;)
Storm Nordwind: Now, no, I don't remember. (I have a memory like a...er... you know... that thing with holes in it;) However I did remember quite clearly at the time, yes.

    "Pass the butter please!"
Lucinda Lavender: this week the radio I heard about a kind of fat they have found in the brain. that indicates a souce of flexibility
    --BELL--
Eden Haiku: Had a friend who used to say whenever I would complain about not remembering something; " We meditate too much, that's why! "
Eden Haiku: Fat as a source of flexibility in the brain! Would you pass the butter please :)))
Storm Nordwind: Oh I never complain about not remembering. I just accept it as it is!
Storm Nordwind: And the double/heavy-whipping cream please in the coffee
Eden Haiku: I do cause i used to have an elephant's memory (wondering if you say that in English?)
Storm Nordwind: 'memory like an elephant'
    Bleu Oleander: http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com...damage/?src=me
Yakuzza Lethecus: Even i understood what you meant and i can´t recall to have heard that in english before :)
Eden Haiku: And now I keep forgetting my keys, where I put things and so on. Sighs...
Lucinda Lavender: it was created I think by trying very new challenging thinking...not so much the crossword puzzles...thank Bleu!
Eden Haiku: My elephant memory is trotting away a I drop for 9 seconds every 15 minutes.. ;)))

    Buttons and belonging.
Lucinda Lavender: currently I am sewing on a button that does not at all match...it may stretch the minds of the children
Eden Haiku: Good for them Lucinda! ;)))
Lucinda Lavender: I do not want to drop the jacket...
Storm Nordwind: Perhaps it depends on how old the children are, and whether they will get teased or not as a result!
Eden Haiku: I like this idea of picturing you with a different button in front of staring children!
Lucinda Lavender: there will be noticing...
Lucinda Lavender: one of these things is not like the other...one of these things dosen't belong...
    Lucinda Lavender: and old song
Eden Haiku: I used to wear this designer outfit when I was living in New York: a dress with an asymmetric jacket. People did stop me on the street to tell me I buttoned myself in the wrong way :))
Storm Nordwind: The idea of 'Belonging' often means a lot to a child
    Lucinda Lavender: :)))
    Lucinda Lavender: yes!
Eden Haiku: Belonging is a need that persists through time isn'it?
    Lucinda Lavender: yes

Lucinda shares a dream too. And Earth Day gets a mention. These two threads entwine for a while.
Lucinda Lavender: I dreamed of trying on someone elses shoes this morning...
    --BELL--
Eden Haiku: How did it feel Lucinda?
    Bleu Oleander: cinderella?
    Eden Haiku: ;))
Eden Haiku: Ashes and glass shoes...;))
Lucinda Lavender: apparently the person...who they belonged to did not like them so well. I put my foot in and noted the way they fit to the foot...
    Eden Haiku: Yes?
Lucinda Lavender: I liked the close way they formed to the foot and wondered if there was enough support.
    Lucinda Lavender: they were grey.
Lucinda Lavender: no laces, slip on..
Eden Haiku: It reminds me somehow that is it Earth's day today. Talking about enough support :))
Lucinda Lavender: yes! happy earth day...
Bleu Oleander: (slips out quietly ... bye all .. happy earth day!)
Yakuzza Lethecus: happy earth day :)
    Eden Haiku: Bye Bleu :)
    Lucinda Lavender: by bleu:)
Yakuzza Lethecus: and what are we supposed to do on earth day ?
Eden Haiku: Your dream seems to be connecting you to the ground, to someone's else ground of being too maybe?
    Lucinda Lavender: consider the earth...
Eden Haiku: Just honour Mother Earth I suppose Yaku...;))
Storm Nordwind: Actually Yak, most people are considering themselves and their future on the earth. The earth will survive full well with us or without us
Yakuzza Lethecus: i just read 20k ppl fly to cochabamba and discuss there, nice if they would use SL there ain´t no use of kerosene
    Lucinda Lavender: :)
Eden Haiku: Yes, I'm sure of that too Storm. But I think it is nice to remind ourselves that Earth is our Mother, supporting us, taking care of us. Birds singing, flowers blooming for our delight.
Yakuzza Lethecus: Sometimes i have the feeling that being ,,pro nature" means in some circle´s that they´ll just have a reason to have a conference on a place where they haven´t don´t enough vacations yet.
    Storm Nordwind chuckles
    Lucinda Lavender: :)))
Eden Haiku: I'm very space-oriented and I always have to remember to ground myself so I like this Earth's Day.
Eden Haiku: yes Yaku ;))) Conferences and vacations...;)))
Yakuzza Lethecus: ah, right didn´t even think about you :D
Eden Haiku: What would you say about your own dream Lucinda?
    Lucinda Lavender: hmm
Storm Nordwind: And when they get back, what then? What will have changed inside these delegates? What will they do differently afterward I wonder?
Yakuzza Lethecus: Yes, i also wonder.
Eden Haiku: Well, we will have a chance to see how a brush from San Francisco will has already transformed our Pab retreaters tomorrow at 1PM session!
    --BELL--
Lucinda Lavender: a story was formed in which the dreamer tried on some protection that someone else found less desirable..exploratory work doe that helps me to see someone elses experience.
Yakuzza Lethecus: I think it´s kind of like evolution vs creationism, everyone seems to agree my whole life that the earth is going down, some ppl say ,,no it´s not" and there are only discussions even tho in principle everyone seems to agree.
Yakuzza Lethecus: hmm, the comparison isn´t the best btw.
Storm Nordwind: Dogen said: "A flower falls, even though we love it; and a weed grows, even though we do not love it."
Lucinda Lavender: sorry...work done. maybe waiting for the shoe to drop for me as well...
Eden Haiku: They recently discovered that Twitter does tax our carbon print. Smoke screen to hide how CARS are a big part of the problem...
Eden Haiku: Have fun with the kids Lucinda!
Lucinda Lavender: must go now...playful earth day to all...
    Storm Nordwind waves
    Yakuzza Lethecus: take care lucinda
    Lucinda Lavender: take care...
Yakuzza Lethecus: i think how egalitarian we should be on the planet
Yakuzza Lethecus: it´s such a simple childish idea to say ,,this is what the earth can handle" so split it by 6 billion and see what we are left to use
Storm Nordwind: There is so much selfishness about Yak. I suspect change must come from within if we are to see a change without
Eden Haiku: Very true Storm, a change of heart first.
Yakuzza Lethecus: Hehe, but ppl are saving energy not using standbye and drive with their SUV to the supermarket 1 block away.
Yakuzza Lethecus: Or even flying around the globe constantly pretending they are so green, like al gore with his big house and warm indoor pool.
Yakuzza Lethecus: I really liked his documentary btw.
Yakuzza Lethecus: But ppl have more money and power and just use more resources still pretending what they all do for the environment.
Eden Haiku: We obvioulsy do not have the solutions. But we can hold the questions...
Storm Nordwind: Like I suggested before, many are concerned with ensuring the environment continues to support them personally, and maybe their family, and as much of their current lifestyle as possible!
Yakuzza Lethecus: Yes, i don´t mean to solve or to change anything.

Another wanderer arrives with hints of distant travels, and we share stories and images from East Asia... and the inevitable bad joke!
    Storm Nordwind: Hello Calvino!
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey cal
Yakuzza Lethecus: still in thailand ?
Yakuzza Lethecus: or back in seattle ?
    Eden Haiku: Hi Calvino.
Calvino Rabeni: Hi eden, yaku, storm
Calvino Rabeni: I'm here for a few days more
    Yakuzza Lethecus is jealous
Calvino Rabeni: I plan to do some "temple drivebys" on the way out
Calvino Rabeni: There's one, Yaku, made with 1.5 million beer bottles
    Storm Nordwind: what a wat!
Calvino Rabeni: I'm trying to locate it - Google maps is mostly inaccurate with these foeign things
    Yakuzza Lethecus: Take pictures!
Calvino Rabeni: Yep, wat were they thinking anyway?
    --BELL--
Storm Nordwind: "The Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew temple is about 400 miles northeast of Bangkok in the city of Khun Han close to the Cambodian border..."
Calvino Rabeni: Thanks, that sounds wiki-ish
    Eden Haiku: ;))
Calvino Rabeni: I'll miss that one
Eden Haiku: Storm is a very learned man ;)
Calvino Rabeni: Yaku, here are a few early pix
    Calvino Rabeni: http://picasaweb.google.com/WyldMedi...M_VgofX3cKqTA#
    Yakuzza Lethecus: thx for sharing!
Calvino Rabeni: Yes Eden that is certainly true
Calvino Rabeni: He might be in the "unlearning" phase by now however :)
Eden Haiku: The pics with the clouds remind me what a friend who sepent many months in Thailand one told me: she said she saw the most beautiful skies over there!
Eden Haiku: I also like very much the pic of the work in progress Buddha!
Calvino Rabeni: THe photo doesn't show how much internal light was in the clouds
Calvino Rabeni: It has sime little ones in the back, abart partway up, showing my shadow at its foot
Calvino Rabeni: (My spelng has gon native I gues)
    Storm Nordwind chuckles
    Yakuzza Lethecus: take care everyone
    Storm Nordwind waves
    Calvino Rabeni: Bye Yaku
    Eden Haiku: Bye yaku!
Calvino Rabeni: My plan if it works, is to return to some favorite Bangkok temples
Storm Nordwind: You mean this visit, or in future years... or future lives? ;-)
Eden Haiku: Is it alowed to go inside these temples?
Calvino Rabeni: It is in me to do that, but I don't often have opportunity
Calvino Rabeni: I would do fo r you if possible
Calvino Rabeni: To see thru my viewpoint
Calvino Rabeni: THere is a dress code, sometimes
    Eden Haiku: No shoes :))

Ways to donate at an Asian temple.
Calvino Rabeni: And some are full of tourists with ways to donate that are interesting
    Eden Haiku: yes?
Calvino Rabeni: They are creative about ways to make giving small donations a fun thing or distinctive
    Eden Haiku: Like what?
Calvino Rabeni: Buy fish food, feed hungry fishes
Calvino Rabeni: Buy hindreds of small coins, put one in each of hundreds of small bowls
    Eden Haiku: Oh yes!
Calvino Rabeni: Buy tiny birds in a cage, set them free
Calvino Rabeni: THrow coins into a giant footprint of buddha
Eden Haiku: I like this last one best!
Storm Nordwind recalls something similar with feeding the turtles in a Kuala Lumpur temple
    --BELL--
Eden Haiku: Did you see things like that In Malayasia too Storm?
    Storm Nordwind: yes!
Calvino Rabeni: Buy paper folded things - beautiful, thenlight them on fire
Calvino Rabeni: Plus flowers, incense, oil, etc.
Eden Haiku: Like that do! The pyromaniac in me would love that!
Storm Nordwind: Or perhaps pay a monk to interpret the Kuan Yin oracle for you
Storm Nordwind: (whether or not you needed a reading!)
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, or like Storm's oracle, there are lots of sticks

    Time to go.
Eden Haiku: Thanks for the conversation guys. I have to leave now. (((Storm))) it is a delight to have you back inworld!
Storm Nordwind: Thank you Eden. I must go too
    Storm Nordwind waves
    Calvino Rabeni: BYe Eden :)
Calvino Rabeni: Glad to see you also Storm
    Calvino Rabeni: B-Bye for now
Storm Nordwind: Thank you Calvino. You too.
    Storm Nordwind: Bye for now
