    Paradise Tennant: hello :)
    druth Vlodovic: hi
Paradise Tennant: druth have you attended a pab session before :)
    druth Vlodovic: two,
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
druth Vlodovic: and no I don't mind being recorded :)
Paradise Tennant: ok so you have the info card :) and have heard the drill :)
Paradise Tennant: is there anything you would like to talk about :)
druth Vlodovic: not really, I wanted to see who came and what came up
    Paradise Tennant: ok :)
    druth Vlodovic: you have something?
    Paradise Tennant: hmm
Paradise Tennant: there have been some good sessions on wu wei :)
Paradise Tennant: and the time space knowledge text .. is always good
druth Vlodovic: um, afraid I'm not what you might call knowledgeable :/
Paradise Tennant: or we could stick to the weather and the state of the roads :)
druth Vlodovic: how about how come so many spiritual journey/ humanists have star trek in their picks lol
    Paradise Tennant: lol
druth Vlodovic: who is wu wei?
Paradise Tennant: maybe because it so touched our imagination
    Paradise Tennant: hmm good question
Paradise Tennant: going to cheat one sec
Paradise Tennant: Taoism > Basic Concepts What is Nondoing (wu-wei)? Wu-wei - usually translated as nonaction, inaction or nondoing - is one of the most important Taoist concepts. When linked to the Tao - the creator and sustainer of everything in the Universe - nondoing means the actionless of Heaven, like in the following abstract from Tao-te ching: The Tao in its regular course does nothing (for the sake of doing it), and so there is nothing which it does not do. (Legge, chap. 37) Linked with the human behavior, nondoing refers to not forcing the things on their way, on the action without effort.
Paradise Tennant: Wu wei (simplified Chinese: 无为; traditional Chinese: 無爲; pinyin: wúwéi) is an important concept of Taoism (Daoism), that involves knowing when to act and when not to act. Another perspective to this is that "Wu Wei" means natural action - as planets revolve around the sun, they "do" this revolving, but without "doing" it; or as trees grow, they "do", but without "doing". Thus knowing when (and how) to act is not knowledge in the sense that one would think "now" is the right time to do "this", but rather just doing it, doing the natural thing. Wu may be translated as not have or without; Wei may be translated as do, act, serve as, govern or effort. The literal meaning of Wu Wei is "without action" and is often included in the paradox wei wu wei: "action without action" or "effortless doing". The practice of wu wei and the efficacy of wei wu wei are fundamental tenets in Chinese thought and have been mostly emphasized by the Taoist school.
druth Vlodovic: how long do you usually give people to show?
Paradise Tennant: well sometimes people come and go
Paradise Tennant: I usually will wait out the hour :)
    Bleu Oleander: hi Paradise!
    Bleu Oleander: hi druth
Paradise Tennant: hiya bleu :) gtsy
    druth Vlodovic: hi bleu
Paradise Tennant: smiles how are you tonight bleu :)
    Bleu Oleander: my outfit?
    Paradise Tennant: looks great :)
    Bleu Oleander: ty!
    Bleu Oleander: feeling blue tonight
    Paradise Tennant: ahh !
Bleu Oleander: hey what happened to your eyes?
Paradise Tennant: hmm sorry ? don't know looks normal to me :)
Bleu Oleander: haven't rezzed in for me ... pretty strange looking hehe
    Paradise Tennant: yikes
    Paradise Tennant: would be odd
    druth Vlodovic: cataracts :)
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Paradise Tennant: have to love sl .. one moment you are ok .. the next your legs are poking up through your torso :)
    Bleu Oleander: ha!
druth Vlodovic: we were wondering what to talk about, seems dogs might be the thing :-)
    Paradise Tennant: smile OK!
Bleu Oleander: one of my favorite subjects!
    Paradise Tennant: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-0jNC_...watch_response
druth Vlodovic: I never would have guessed lol
Bleu Oleander: are you a dog owner druth?
Paradise Tennant: for your watching pleasure ..great little video
    druth Vlodovic: cats, sorry
Paradise Tennant: hmm cats are good too :)
Bleu Oleander: so who let you in then? ( hehe, only kidding!)
Paradise Tennant: smiles well dogs and cats I think can be real teachers .. they are always in the moment
druth Vlodovic: lol, I can imagine the stare I'd get if I tried to teach my cats something like that :)
Paradise Tennant: they love wholeheartedly ..  well with cats maybe there are conditions!
Paradise Tennant: hmm well I was kind of thinking they would teach you ...;) I learn all kinds of things from my dog :)
    Paradise Tennant: patience
Bleu Oleander: my puppy is trying to teach me all kinds of things!
    Paradise Tennant: how to play
Paradise Tennant: the joys of the really simple things
Bleu Oleander: yes, being in the moment
druth Vlodovic: thing I like about cats, might not seem positive at first, they just feel things and react
Paradise Tennant: he loves to have a huge romp right before falling asleep ..just rips up the bed runs around like a maniac .. as if to say .well hey why not one last big hurrah before we close down the day
    Paradise Tennant: yes ! they
    Paradise Tennant: do
    Paradise Tennant: react honestly ..
druth Vlodovic: one cat might hiss at another for coming too close, half a minute later they are playing
    Paradise Tennant: yes !
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Paradise Tennant: grudges are not so common in the animal world
druth Vlodovic: I like Bleau's 1st life quote :) whatever you say to them they go "wow, that's great, I'd never of thought of it!" lol
    Paradise Tennant: me too :)
    Bleu Oleander: pretty funny!
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
Paradise Tennant: was walking my dog last week ran into another gal walking hers and she told me a great story .. about her friend who rescued a litter of kittens abandonedi in a box by the side of the road and they were so young they had trouble getting them to drink from a bottle. Their jack russell terrier was really upset .. so much so she started to give milk and mothered the kittens .. the joke was when they went to find homes for them they came with the caveat that they may bark !
Paradise Tennant: amazing how animals react instinctively in the right manner
    Bleu Oleander: amazing
    Paradise Tennant: without artifice
    druth Vlodovic: :)
druth Vlodovic: had an orange tabby who let two litters of kittens nurse, 'course he had no milk so they grabbed little bunches of hair
    Bleu Oleander: :)
druth Vlodovic: I've got to go check on something,
Paradise Tennant: often use to daydream in business about us as species developing the facility whereby if we lied ..our noses would grow... would sit in business meetings and stare at the end of someone's nose and fantasize about it :)
    Paradise Tennant: ok
druth Vlodovic: see you guys later
    druth Vlodovic: lol
Paradise Tennant: take care druth thanks for dropping by :)
    Bleu Oleander: bfn:)
Paradise Tennant: there was a story in the press about a bengal tiger in the zoo who lost her litter and got so depressed her health was failing dramatically ...
Bleu Oleander: i can believe that!
Paradise Tennant: the zoo keepers .. skined her cubs and put the skins of 8 little piglets ..
Paradise Tennant: then introduced them to the mom
    Paradise Tennant: she nursed them
    Paradise Tennant: cared for them
Paradise Tennant: loved them and started to improve .. went back to normal
Paradise Tennant: animals do die of broken hearts
Bleu Oleander: oh yes i'm sure they do
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
Bleu Oleander: when we lost our first dog, the other one kept licking his picture
Paradise Tennant: wonders if .. we are the superior species :)  they love so truly :)
Paradise Tennant: dolphins are very smart .work in teams. speak .. articulate plans to each other
Bleu Oleander: squid also very smart
    Paradise Tennant: yes and cranky
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Bleu Oleander: we're planning our fall trip to La Jolla and are going to include a visit with a neuroscient who works on animal consciousness
Bleu Oleander: works with squid in Italy
    Paradise Tennant: wow
    Bleu Oleander: pretty interesting!
Paradise Tennant: what do his findings suggest
Bleu Oleander: we're also meeting another neuroscients who uses virtual reality to design architecture
Paradise Tennant: smiles but be a second lifer for sure !
    Bleu Oleander: full body immersion
Bleu Oleander: he says much more than sl
Bleu Oleander: he's going to take us in
    Paradise Tennant: wow
Paradise Tennant: so how does full body immersion work
Bleu Oleander: they study physical reactions to spaces/environments
Bleu Oleander: some sort of helmet/goggles
    Paradise Tennant: ahh kk
Bleu Oleander: so you feel like you're there
    Bleu Oleander: hi Cal
Paradise Tennant: hiya cal :) gtsy
Calvino Rabeni: Good evening, Bleu, Paradise
Paradise Tennant: we are talking of intelligent ..squid and full body immersion ..virutal reality
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
Bleu Oleander: interesting stream of consiousness
Calvino Rabeni: The virtual reality systems didn't take off - or not yet?
    Calvino Rabeni: Wow, it's been 21 years - that's scary !
    Bleu Oleander: 21 yrs?
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, we were building the first immersive VR systems in 1989 in Silicon Valley, california
Calvino Rabeni: Everyone thought they would take right off, become commonplace
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
Bleu Oleander: I heard someone talking today about using VR to help patients get over their fears
Calvino Rabeni: Has it been sucessful? It was one of the proposed used back then.
Bleu Oleander: yes, they said it was
Calvino Rabeni: It was an answer looking for its questions
Calvino Rabeni: Applications were all conjecture
Calvino Rabeni: It might have got better traction if neurosciences were a little farther along - would have been a good tool
Bleu Oleander: PBS series on the brain on the Charlie Rose show .... very interesting .... good people participating
Calvino Rabeni: THere's a whole school of therapy that works with imagined visualizations too, for working with phobias - but the VR might help make it more visceraly
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Calvino Rabeni: Also the state of the video game industry then was primitive compared to now
Calvino Rabeni: in the sense, it was hard to make apps for VR that were dramatic and compelling
Bleu Oleander: I think that's all moving faster these days
Calvino Rabeni: Art and literature often draw technology along
Calvino Rabeni: (not to mention military apps)
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Calvino Rabeni: The big 3 are art (in all its forms), porno, and military
Calvino Rabeni: for factors that pay the bills for technology development
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Calvino Rabeni: Medicine needs it, but has been too conservative to be a driver of it
Bleu Oleander: we had a great salon last night
Bleu Oleander: Paul Davies launced his new book "The Eerie Silence"
Bleu Oleander: Hugh Downs had a conversation with him about the book
Calvino Rabeni: I don't know them - what was it about Bleu?
Bleu Oleander: Paul Davies is a physicist, cosmologist and astrobiologist
Bleu Oleander: he's now here at ASU
Paradise Tennant: smiles at bleu .. wow !
    Bleu Oleander: written many books
Bleu Oleander: won the Templeton prize
    Bleu Oleander: and Hugh Down?
Bleu Oleander: 20/20 with Barbara Walters and "Concentration"
Bleu Oleander: are we alone in the universe .... a review of the last half century
Calvino Rabeni: For the log readers - http://cosmos.asu.edu/
    Bleu Oleander: SETI
    Bleu Oleander: fun discussion
    Paradise Tennant: nods!
Bleu Oleander: do you think we're alone?
    Calvino Rabeni: http://beyond.asu.edu/media/eeriesilence.php
Bleu Oleander: yes, Paul directs the Beyond Center here at ASU
Bleu Oleander: great new book ... very though provoking!
    Bleu Oleander: *thought
Calvino Rabeni: One well known way to think about that is the Drake Equation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drake_equation
Calvino Rabeni: (also for the log)
Bleu Oleander: yes, he talked about that
Calvino Rabeni: There's some metaphysics influencing the estimates, I suppose - feelings about whether life a normal expresion of how things work, or a very strange or unique accident
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Calvino Rabeni: If the universe is seen as orderly, it raises the chances, I suppose
Calvino Rabeni: Because it would do the same kinds of experiments in many places, leading to life arising independently many times
Calvino Rabeni: If the universe is really chaotic, then ... hmm?
Calvino Rabeni: It's harder to think about - maybe it creates really strange forms of life, different from others
Calvino Rabeni: Or maybe then life is a rarity
Bleu Oleander: he says we may be looking in the wrong places
Calvino Rabeni: Well, the advanced civs SETI look for might not do much with the radio spectrum
Bleu Oleander: could be strange forms of life are being washed down the drain
Calvino Rabeni: looking in the wrong spectrum for the signals
    Calvino Rabeni: :)
Paradise Tennant: hmm then there is our whole issue with out little of the information that is out there gets in through are senses .we maybe living on top of other worlds and simply not be able to perceive them
Calvino Rabeni: Not talking about US, are you Bleu?
    Bleu Oleander: ha!
Calvino Rabeni: Other things hard to estimate - maybe they believe the speed of light barrier is insurmountable (so why bother)
Calvino Rabeni: or that other civs will be likely to colonize them (so better keep quiet)
Bleu Oleander: the conversation was very lively ... seems this topic interests many ... we had over 100 people there!
Paradise Tennant: smiles a huge success :)
Bleu Oleander: it was outside overlooking all of Phoenix and almost a full moon
Bleu Oleander: one of those perfect evenings!
Paradise Tennant: would be very lovely
Bleu Oleander: of course someone brought us UFOs
    Calvino Rabeni: Of course
    Paradise Tennant: perfect
    Bleu Oleander: "phoenix lights"
Calvino Rabeni: There are lots of believers
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Calvino Rabeni: Calvino Rabeni remembers the slogan from the "X FIles" - "I Want To Believe"
Paradise Tennant: not sure how you could not belive
    Paradise Tennant: believe
    Paradise Tennant: we are here
Calvino Rabeni: To believe in what, then ? :)
Paradise Tennant: unlikely we are alone ..
Paradise Tennant: in all that space ..
Paradise Tennant: when there are so many burgeoning forms of life ..we are connected to
Calvino Rabeni: Yes but when choosing a planet - the most important things are Location, Location and Location
    Paradise Tennant: smiles and laughs
Bleu Oleander: did I read correctly that in the last 10 years we've identified over 450 planets revolving around stars like ours?
    Bleu Oleander: http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/20...2/super-earth/
Paradise Tennant: if our thoughts really create reality I bet somewhere there is a moon made of blue cheese !
    Bleu Oleander: ha!
Paradise Tennant: makes the twilight zone sound :)
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
Bleu Oleander: gotta go let my puppy out ..... nice clear night here ..... maybe see some ET's :)
Paradise Tennant: my apologies but I am starting to fade ... so I will quietly excuse myself .. and thank you both for the lively convesation :)
Bleu Oleander: cu both later :)
Paradise Tennant: lol ok have to walk mine too . you check the southern skies I will do the northern ones
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
    Bleu Oleander: bfn :)
Calvino Rabeni: Good night Bleu :)
Calvino Rabeni: Westen skies look good
    Calvino Rabeni: Bye
Paradise Tennant: lol good nite cal ..thank you :)
    Bleu Oleander: bye
