The Guardian for this meeting was Darren Islar. The comments are by Darren Islar.

As most saturdays lately, it started of quietly, some people coming in late, but this time not really getting busy. So we talked about everything and nothing, with the most interesting thing what football means to us

    Darren Islar: hi Wester

    Wester Kiranov: hi darren

Bertram Jacobus: hy lady and gentleman :-)

    Darren Islar: hi

Bertram Jacobus: some in soccer feaver ? and not here therefor may be ? ;-)

    Darren Islar: probably

Darren Islar: and saturdays are slow nowadays

Darren Islar: sometimes it starts at 2 pm slt instead of 1 pm :)
Wester Kiranov: hi bert - sorry, got distracted

Bertram Jacobus: ah yes i see ... myself - i´m so much with my gf here in sl ... that i sometimes am not so much here ... hm ... feel a bit sry sometimes about that - but the day has only 24 hours, one has to set preferences etc. ...

Bertram Jacobus: np at all - hy wester again ! :-) *wave*

    Wester Kiranov: *waves back*

Darren Islar: well you're here regularly, and even not, no reason to apologize

    Bertram Jacobus: ty darren :-))

Bertram Jacobus: i appreciate so much that all here are so kind ...

Darren Islar: so do I :)

Bertram Jacobus: i find that very supporting ...

    Wester Kiranov: i agree
Bertram Jacobus: and to be here with interesting topics and calm sometimes - so good ! ...

Darren Islar: any topic one of you like to talk about?

    the Stuttgart and other retreats

Bertram Jacobus: this is in my mind : won´t you be at the stuttgart retreat in autumn ? (shall not be pushing plz) ...

    Darren Islar: me? no

Bertram Jacobus: why not ? (if i may ask)
Darren Islar: my body can't handle that, too intense

Wester Kiranov: I would have loved to come to Stuttgart, but the people that usually babysit my children in these kind of things are on vacation at that time. So I can't

Bertram Jacobus: aww - okay - "i see" and accept, for sure ! ...

Darren Islar: I only have energy for a few hours a day

Bertram Jacobus: whaow - is there a perspective that that can be more in future perhaps darren ? (always : please stop me if i ask too much)

Darren Islar: not at the moment no

Darren Islar: and if there is progress it is very slow
Bertram Jacobus: "damn" ... ma best wishes to you ! ...

    Darren Islar: thanks Bert :)

    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey everyone

    Wester Kiranov: hi yaku

Bertram Jacobus: hello mr. tea ! :-D

Bertram Jacobus: but may be once ... if yo´d also like to ... will be a chance to take part, both ... for sure it´s no "must" (also always) ... i´m still working on it to be able to be there ... hm - reduce costs especially ... ;-)

Darren Islar: well there is also another reason

Darren Islar: I also miss the retreats with my teacher
Darren Islar: and I find them more important

Darren Islar: so I'm afraid it will take a long time

Bertram Jacobus: i see - may i ask, who it is ?

Darren Islar: it is often hard to stay in touch when there is a long distance between friends

arabella Ella: yes and that was in the pre-internet era when it was even more difficult

arabella Ella: today it is easier

Darren Islar: you're an England fan aren't you?

arabella Ella: yes of course :)

Darren Islar: of course ???? :))

Bertram Jacobus: hehe - so all have still chances ... ?

arabella Ella smiles

arabella Ella: maybe

arabella Ella: but i hoped England would win tonight so very disappointed

arabella Ella: my grandma was English

arabella Ella: and as you know we were a British colony

Yakuzza Lethecus: so was america :)

Bertram Jacobus: ooohhh hihi hehe haha - "may the best win"
arabella Ella: yes it is fun and an opportunity to party

Darren Islar: ah, okay, well then it is all right :)))

arabella Ella: yes any excuse for a party

Bertram Jacobus: but these ... how are they called vuzuvelas ? these sound trumpets are really ugly aren´t they ? ;o)

    arabella Ella: he he

arabella Ella: you honestly think they are ugly?

Bertram Jacobus: because they change the sound in the stadiums so intense

Bertram Jacobus: my beloved patterns !
arabella Ella: makes for more atmosphere

arabella Ella: and one thing i hope with this world cup

arabella Ella: that it will help the ugly ghost of racism to perhaps get lessened

Bertram Jacobus: yess - i think, it´s wonderful for africa

arabella Ella: after all we are all human beings all born the same

Darren Islar: if that would be the result, that surely would be great

arabella Ella: i am just hopeful

arabella Ella: as racism in europe has become very ugly

Darren Islar: ah, finally, I was already wondering why we were so far apart?

    arabella Ella: yipee ... symmetry!

Darren Islar: yes, there is a turn around surely

arabella Ella: hope so

Darren Islar: well it is more cosey and easier for my camera :)

arabella Ella smiles

Darren Islar: are you making another box Yaku?

    Yakuzza Lethecus: box ?

arabella Ella: he is busy with his tea

    Darren Islar: :)

Yakuzza Lethecus: i don´t know why they spawn sometimes

arabella Ella: funny how four of us here are on same time zone at the moment

Darren Islar: your arm was pointing somewhere

Yakuzza Lethecus: hehe, i never make boxes intentionally

arabella Ella: unintentionally then?

    Darren Islar: :))

Yakuzza Lethecus: maybe it´s an issue with the interchangeable use of different clients

Bleu Oleander: have fun everyone .... see you later :)

Bertram Jacobus: bye bleu - same same plz

    arabella Ella: bye

Yakuzza Lethecus: bye bleu

    Darren Islar: nite :)

Bertram Jacobus: good nite darren - cu soon

Yakuzza Lethecus: talking in voice right ?

    Darren Islar: hi Zen

    Zen Arado:

    Hi Darren, Ara

    Zen Arado: quiet tonight?

    Darren Islar: yep

Darren Islar: a few just left

Zen Arado: I was watching football

arabella Ella: Hiya Zen me too

    Zen Arado: a bit disappointing
arabella Ella: very disappointing

arabella Ella: so unfortunate

Zen Arado: suppose we shouldn't talk about football in PAB

arabella Ella: due to Green's error

    Zen Arado: :)

    Zen Arado: yes

Darren Islar: well you can :))

arabella Ella: well if you see my FB page I found a link between football, art and philosophy which is very interesting :)

Darren Islar: nog very interesting to me though

    Zen Arado: see what page?

arabella Ella: let me find it give me a minute pls

    Zen Arado: ok sure

    Darren Islar: sounds interesting ara

arabella Ella: this is it

    arabella Ella: http://www.apexart.org/exhibitions/critchley.htm

arabella Ella: there is an art exhibition in USA called men with balls

arabella Ella: and simon critchley who is a philosopher is curator

Darren Islar: men with balls :))

arabella Ella: and they created a space for World Cup viewing

    Zen Arado: ok thanks

arabella Ella: he he

arabella Ella: simon also wrote a very interesting piece

arabella Ella: where he calls football ballet for the working class

Zen Arado: "The World Cup is a spectacle in the strictly Situationist sense. It is a shiny display of nations in symbolic, atavistic national combat adorned with multiple layers of commodification, sponsorship and the seemingly infinite commercialization. It is an image of our age at its worst and most gaudy. But it is also something more, something bound up with difficult and recalcitrant questions of conflict, memory, history, place, social class, masculinity, violence, national identity, tribe, and group."
Zen Arado: like that

    arabella Ella nods

Darren Islar: wow

Zen Arado: it's a lot about proving our nationality is better than others isn't it?

arabella Ella: i must go now good night ... and well Zen it revives our 'tribal' instinct in acceptable ways somehow

Darren Islar: I don't know if that is the case anymore

    Darren Islar: bye Ara :)

    en Arado: abye Ara

Darren Islar: I think we are addicted to the thrill more

Zen Arado: acceptable ways yes I guess

Zen Arado: yes bit we love to see our team win

Darren Islar: yes, but that is where the thrill is coming from I guess

Darren Islar: you need to favour someone

Darren Islar: in order to get the thrill

Darren Islar: or is it really a 'tribe' thing

Zen Arado: I lose a lot of interest if England are put out

Zen Arado: it is ego on a national scale

Zen Arado: but better than war

Darren Islar: hahahah

Zen Arado: and maybe we need it to dissipate aggression

Zen Arado: in a harmless way

Darren Islar: i wonder if that is really the case with all those hooligans

Zen Arado: well - they take it too far

Darren Islar: but maybe aggression grows without it

Darren Islar: hard to say i guess

Zen Arado: yes - think it's natural with young men

    Zen Arado: some of them

Zen Arado: I mustn't generalise

Darren Islar: it is hard to say what the world would look like without soccer

Zen Arado: or any international games

    Zen Arado: or Olympics

    Darren Islar: and national

Darren Islar: yes but Olympics doesn't seem to involve aggression

Zen Arado: must be an urge to compete with others

Darren Islar: yes, hard to explain it in another way

Zen Arado: some Olympic sports seem to descend from fighting skills

Zen Arado: like javelin throwing

    Darren Islar: that is true

    Zen Arado: boxing, wrestling, archery

Darren Islar: well it is about muscles and skills

Zen Arado: to prove you are better at something than anyone else in the world

Darren Islar: about finding your own limitation

Darren Islar: or about not excepting that limitation

Darren Islar: yes, only being the best is good enough

Zen Arado: hmmmm...but most are more concerned to win medals

Darren Islar: well Olympics has a more middleclass feeling

Darren Islar: soccer more lower class

Darren Islar: different styles
Darren Islar: but nonetheless probably the same thing

    Zen Arado: yes

    Zen Arado: getting late

en Arado: I better go do my meditation

Zen Arado: and go to bed

    Darren Islar: okay Zen

Darren Islar: same here :)

    Zen Arado: :)

    Darren Islar: see you :)

    Zen Arado: ok nice discussion

    Zen Arado: bye

    Darren Islar: bye
