The Guardian for this meeting was Pema Pera. The comments are by Pema Pera.

    Pila Mulligan: hi Paradise
Pila Mulligan: nice to see you :)
Paradise Tennant: hi pila gtsy :)
    Pila Mulligan: hi Pema
Paradise Tennant: hiya pema ..gtsy :)
Pema Pera: Hi Pila and Paradise!
    Pila Mulligan: how are you?
    Paradise Tennant: very well thanks
Pema Pera: fine, Plia, just had a nice Sunday morning brunch
    Pila Mulligan: cool

Pila starts off with an email scam story

Pila Mulligan: I had an intersting experience this afternoon (it is 4 pm here)
Pila Mulligan: wanted to let it be logged in PaB as an educational event
Pila Mulligan: a few hours ago I got an email from a friend saying he was in London (using a library's free internet access) and had been mugged and lost his wallet and needed money ... I immediately wrote back and asked how I could help
Pila Mulligan: his quick reply gave me an address where said he was and said to send cash via Western Union and then send him the transaction details and he would pick up the money at the closest Western Union office -- at that point I called my friend's home in Hawai`i and he answered the phone... someone had broken into his GMail account and was trying a quick email scam (he was working on it already)
Pila Mulligan: that one is new to me :)
Pema Pera: yes, it happened to me, the very same message with the same details, and to several others I know
Pema Pera: it is one of those that go around it seems
Pema Pera: and I do wonder how many people fall for it
Pema Pera: it's a lot more elaborate than the usual Nigerian oil scams!
Paradise Tennant: almost kind of like the lottery ones :)
    Pila Mulligan: sophisticated scams
Pila Mulligan: I called Western Union and they said it happens all the time, they gave me the phone number of the London Metropolitan Police and I called them and they took a report and said the same thing -- happens all the time
Pema Pera: yes, it's an evolutionary mechanism, they're getting better and better!
Pila Mulligan: so I hope the word gets around
Pema Pera: both predators and prey evolve
    Pila Mulligan: yep
Pema Pera: if you're not suspicious, it's very natural to want to help
Pila Mulligan: yep, my first response overlooked some easy hints to, in the email language
Pila Mulligan: too eager to be of help
Pema Pera: but once suspicion arises, you reread it, and notice that the email does not contain a single piece of information that shows that the sender actually knows you
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: and as HL Mencken once said, no one ever went broke overestimating the gullibility of the American people
Pema Pera: nothing that reminds of your long history
Pema Pera: each country has its own style of gullibility, I think :)
Pema Pera: like its own wine or cheese
Pila Mulligan: themeail said "I don't have access to money right now,i need your help within twinkle of an eye." Not my freind's kind of phrasing
    Pema Pera: exactly
Pila Mulligan: but it didnt catch
Pila Mulligan: didnt catch my attentio that is
Pema Pera: also evolution: in case of emergency, it's important to help first, think later!
    Pila Mulligan: yep
    Pila Mulligan: what nasty buggas

Dream joins us, and Pila weaves a new name, that then turns out to be an old name!

    Pema Pera: hi Dream!
    Pila Mulligan: hi DreamWeaver
Paradise Tennant: hiya dream gtsy :)
    Dream Wrexan: hi everyone
    Pila Mulligan: oops, misread p[ardon
    Pila Mulligan: hi Dream
Pema Pera: I like "Dream Weaver" :-)
Dream Wrexan: and "dream" is short for that!
Pila Mulligan: myopia gets credit there
    Pema Pera: :-)
Dream Wrexan: Dreamweaver was my CB handle in the '70s, believe it or not
    Pema Pera: wow!
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Dream Wrexan: It sort of stuck
    Dream Wrexan: lol
    Pila Mulligan: CQ CQ
    Pila Mulligan: (radio call)
    Dream Wrexan: lol, good buddy
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Dream Wrexan: ... strains of "convoy" playing in my head now
Pila Mulligan: I had an amature license long long ago
    Pila Mulligan: ham
Dream Wrexan: Interesting how long-distance communication has evolved...
Dream Wrexan: CB - chat - SL!
    Pila Mulligan: really
    Pila Mulligan: what's next?
    Pila Mulligan: holograms?
    Dream Wrexan: virtual reality
    Pila Mulligan: yep
Dream Wrexan: yep, could be holograms, too
Pema Pera: in a few decades, yes, still a bit away
Dream Wrexan: what a world we experience
Pila Mulligan: maybe with embellishments we cannot yet imagine

    Dream makes a suggestion:

    Dream Wrexan: smellavision
Paradise Tennant: woud like that very scent oriented :)
Pila Mulligan: that would decidedly embellish the sense of presence
    Dream Wrexan: hey, Paradise! :-)
Dream Wrexan: don't know too many scent-orients - you may be the first
    Dream Wrexan: I'm strictly visual
Pema Pera: but I hope the smells won't linger . . . I'd rather not have my whole room smell like a medley of the web sites I visit . . . . :-)
Paradise Tennant: smiles most direct root to the brain :)
    Pema Pera: oldest it seems
Dream Wrexan: iew - good point - I just got back from listening to contemporary jazz at Nat's
Pema Pera: Dream, it was really fun for me to read a PaB chatlog, a few days ago, in which you asked whether we had special intiatives here in PaB; and then you spoke about time -- and all that ten days ago, just a couple days before we had our first session in a new Time initiative; couldn't have been more appropriate!
    Dream Wrexan: synchronicity :-)
Pema Pera: seemed like it, yes :)
Dream Wrexan: another favorite topic of mine
Dream Wrexan: I do not believe in coincidences
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Dream Wrexan: Did you have a good turn out on Friday, Pema?
Dream Wrexan: I havent had a chance to read the recording yet

which is now up on this page.

Pema Pera: it may be best not to believe in anything -- but also not to disbelieve anything . . . .
Pema Pera: yes, we filled the circle again
Dream Wrexan: ... anything is possible...
    Pema Pera: very lively discussion
Dream Wrexan: I'm glad to hear
Dream Wrexan: I will definitely read it tomorrow
Pema Pera: I've posted it, but not yet commented, and not yet with the proper links -- will do that in a few hours
Pema Pera: so much to do every day . . . I thought I would have a very peaceful half-year stay in Japan
Dream Wrexan: Are you in Japan now?
Pema Pera: but I've accumulated far more new projects than I expected
Pema Pera: yes, for a sabbatical, away from my work place in Princeton
Pema Pera: I'll be here till January
Dream Wrexan: (Paradise! You finally materialized.) :-)
Pema Pera: here being partly Tokyo partly Kyoto
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
    Dream Wrexan: and partly SL
Pema Pera: yes, that too :)
Paradise Tennant: always a bit poufy at heart :)
    Dream Wrexan: :-)
    Pema Pera: hehehe
    Pema Pera: a materializing paradise . . . something to ponder . . .
    Paradise Tennant: smiles yes !
Pema Pera: but energizing from the beginning!
Dream Wrexan: energize ... just like StarTrek
    Pema Pera: :-)
Paradise Tennant: smiles beam me up scottie :)

We switch to Japanese city names.

Pila Mulligan just noticed how Kyoto and Tokyo are annagrams :)
    Dream Wrexan: yes, Pila!
Pema Pera: yes, in roman letters
Paradise Tennant: such amazingly prescient series :)
Pema Pera: in syllables it is kyo-u-to and to-u-kyo-u
Pema Pera: the kyo-u are written by the same characters: 京
Pila Mulligan: aha -to vs -u in Japanese
Pema Pera: but the to and to-u are different
Pema Pera: to in Kyoto is 都
Dream Wrexan: they all look pretty much the same
Pema Pera: tou in Tokyo is 東
    Dream Wrexan: to the uninitiated
Dream Wrexan: The only kanji I know are Reiki symbols
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
Pema Pera: Tokyo means "Eastern capital" and Kyoto means "capital capital", the original one
Paradise Tennant: wonders at the energy and pace there :)
    Pila Mulligan: interesting
Pema Pera: (and reiki originated at mount Kurama, just north of Kyoto, a wonderful place)
Dream Wrexan: it must be really something
Dream Wrexan: I might even put up with the crowds to get there
Pema Pera: going up there is nice too, in a dinky kind of little train winding through the valleys
Pema Pera: normally not so much crowds there
Pema Pera: not at Kurama I mean
Pema Pera: more like a bus on wheels
Pema Pera: on rails I mean :)
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pema Pera: you're doing reiki, Dream?
Pila Mulligan: I took a reiki class once, quite informative
Dream Wrexan: Mostly teaching it now, Pema
    Pema Pera: great!
Dream Wrexan: I found some lovely reiki tables with animations last night here in SL
Pila Mulligan: I liked the idea of practice connecting with a transcendental source of healing energy
Pema Pera: isn't it nice how much we can find in SL . . .
Pila Mulligan needs to be getting on to some RL matters
Pila Mulligan: nice to see you all -- bye for now
Dream Wrexan: Healing Touch is very popular where I work, too - less spiritual, but definitely energetic
Pema Pera: bye Pila, thanks for stopping by!

Pila is leaves, Arch arrives, and we then talk about energy shifts induced by such switches.

    Dream Wrexan: bye pila
    Pema Pera: and hi Arch
    Paradise Tennant: bye pila
    Dream Wrexan: hey, arch
Archmage Atlantis: I wish I had not missed Pila
    Archmage Atlantis: Hello, Pema
    Archmage Atlantis: Hello, Dream
Paradise Tennant: smiles hiya arch :)
Dream Wrexan: and hi, Koya, cutie
Archmage Atlantis: and Hellos escpscially to Paridise
    Archmage Atlantis: Koya sees you
Dream Wrexan: It's also interesting how energy shifts when someone leaves/enters
Archmage Atlantis: Was there a topic?
Pema Pera: yes, isn't that fascinating?
Dream Wrexan: I'm sure there's one somewhere, Arch :-)
Paradise Tennant: smiles energy shifts ?
Dream Wrexan: yes, the shift is almost palpable
    Dream Wrexan: even in SL
Paradise Tennant: find that at work a lot .. how nice it is to work on a sunday afternoon when the building is empty and how .. thick the atmosphere can seem when everyone is there during the week .. the sheer weight of all the doing :)
Pema Pera: yes, in RL it is perhaps not that surprising, but when I started coming to SL I was surprised to see how clearly it is here as well
Dream Wrexan: I work in a hospice - there is never "empty" time for us
Dream Wrexan: It's kind of like a hospital - something always going on
    Paradise Tennant: smiles at dream
Archmage Atlantis: Drea,. this is a rude question... still t here are 3 entitles here......how wold the energy shift if one left?
Paradise Tennant: that is a whole different magnitude of energy :)
Dream Wrexan: Pila's energy is no replaced with Archmage's
    Dream Wrexan: now
Dream Wrexan: .. and no, not rude, either
Dream Wrexan: even Koya brings something to the group
Dream Wrexan: kitten energy is very soft
    Dream Wrexan: playful
Paradise Tennant: wonders if you perception of someone's entity shift with your form ..
    Paradise Tennant: *energy
Dream Wrexan: I'm very sensitive to energies
Dream Wrexan: They transcend the physical
Archmage Atlantis: I s entitly separite frim enienry?
    Paradise Tennant: yes
Dream Wrexan: energy is a characteristic of entities
Paradise Tennant: it is interesting how you can feel even here
    Archmage Atlantis: Pls explalin
Dream Wrexan: not sure I can - but I'm thinking
Dream Wrexan: maybe one of the others could
    Paradise Tennant: hmm
    Archmage Atlantis: waits
Paradise Tennant: well mostly think energy is attached to our thought
Paradise Tennant: find .. there are dramatic shifts in the energy one senses from someone depending on what they are thinking .. i
Pema Pera: what strikes me most about SL is the vivid sense of presence -- something related both to space and time ; a sense of immersion, and I guess you can call that a kind of energetic quality
Paradise Tennant: sometimes think you are getting a chance to understand the true essence of someone unconstrained by the physical it is an amazing kind of experiment really

Dream picks up the notion of immersion, leading to other categories . . .

Dream Wrexan: I attended a class recently about the various ways in which people approach the SL experience
Dream Wrexan: immersion was one of the categories, Pema
    Pema Pera: /nods at Paradise
Archmage Atlantis: We are here together in thing moment, Pila......each of us alolne and togther
Pema Pera: what kind of class was that, Dream?
Dream Wrexan: I'm trying to remember the name of the institute that hosted it
    Dream Wrexan: Rock something
Dream Wrexan: Log is on one of my other computers, sorry
Pema Pera: immersion is what attracted me to virtuals worlds
Dream Wrexan: The teacher's name is Pamala Clift
Pema Pera: after being asked to give a popular science talk in a virtual world
    Paradise Tennant: roadside philosophers :)
Dream Wrexan: she calls herself the roadside philosopher
    Dream Wrexan: yes!
Pema Pera: halfway my talk I felt such a clear connection with the audience, I was amazed
Pema Pera: so I stayed :)
Paradise Tennant: smiles she is a very gifted speaker like her a lot
Pema Pera: nice term "roadside philosopher"
Pema Pera: even better than "market place philosopher"!
Paradise Tennant: was the connection any different than you would have felt in real life
Pema Pera: much less different than I expected
Pema Pera: that was the surprise
Archmage Atlantis: I prefer "hillbilly phiosopher"
Dream Wrexan: I would guess, then, that you are an immersive, Pema
    Dream Wrexan: :-) Arch
    Paradise Tennant: smiles at arch
    Pema Pera: :)
Paradise Tennant: an immersive .. paradise listens
Pema Pera: hard to say, Dream, I'm also using SL in augmenting ways - like for my astronomy work
Dream Wrexan: That is someone who is fully into the relationships
Pema Pera: so I guess both
Dream Wrexan: ah ha, Pema - you know this materia!
    Pema Pera: :-)
Archmage Atlantis: But I would,........I like the reality show "Midget Philosopher Wrestling:
Dream Wrexan: The other is Dissociative - someone who just barely get it
Pema Pera: (but then again, I'm also immersed in my work, so . . . )
Dream Wrexan: It's possible to be all 3 I'm sure
    Pema Pera: :)

     . . . three in total:

Paradise Tennant: missed one .. immersive dissociative and ?
    Dream Wrexan: Augmentative
    Paradise Tennant: and that means
Pema Pera: plunging in -- adding -- separating
Dream Wrexan: Using SL to augment something going on in RL
    Paradise Tennant: ahh kk
Pema Pera: immersive -- augmenting -- dissociating
Archmage Atlantis: immmersive, dissociative, and fuunky
    Archmage Atlantis: Or yea
    Dream Wrexan: :-)
    Archmage Atlantis: arquwe...what he said
Dream Wrexan: the last being the SL bar scene?
    Pema Pera: :-)
Pema Pera: we're getting associative here :)
Dream Wrexan: Found that institute name - Rockcliffe University
    Pema Pera: thanks!
Dream Wrexan: They have a really nice classroom
Dream Wrexan: If you're interested in her lecture, she will be repeating it in August
    Pema Pera: good to know!
Archmage Atlantis: With really nice seats, in really nice rows, where people sit nicely I'm sure
    Dream Wrexan: lol, Arch
Dream Wrexan: actually, yes - but there was a raptor laying on the table in front, too
    Dream Wrexan: lying?
Dream Wrexan: never could get those 2 straight
Archmage Atlantis: Then all the really nice people, in the really nice rows, sould ingage him
Paradise Tennant: is hoping to learn spanish ..here ..would think sl should be a great place to pick up languages :)
    Archmage Atlantis: Wow, Paradise
Archmage Atlantis: that produced a stong response
Dream Wrexan: I think you're right, Paradise.
Pema Pera: yes, SL is great for learning languages
    Archmage Atlantis: in me
Pema Pera: both written and spoken

After an hour, time for me to go.

Pema Pera: time for me to return to RL
Archmage Atlantis: I only see 2 base languages here
Pema Pera: good seeying you all here!
    Dream Wrexan: yes, me too
Dream Wrexan: bye, Pema - thank you
    Pema Pera: bfn
Paradise Tennant: take care pema :)
Dream Wrexan: bye Arch and Paradise, too
    Paradise Tennant: take care dream
    Paradise Tennant: be well :)
Paradise Tennant: well arch I may scoot too ..:) a friend is on who has been sick and not inworld for a long time :) going to go catch up :)
Archmage Atlantis: Nordic ware, cookware of a time
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
