The Guardian for this meeting was Storm Nordwind. This log was posted 56 sessions after the event. The memory of it has faded so Storm has left it without comment.

    Qt Core: Hi Storm
    Storm Nordwind: Hi there
Bruce Mowbray: Hello, Qt and Storm.
    Storm Nordwind: Good morning Bruce
Qt Core: already started with the reengineering, Storm ?
Storm Nordwind: Not much yet. I do have some mock-ups in place. It will all take time to get right
Qt Core: mm, maybe the just term would be refactoring (and now that i'm using a it term it scare me even more ;-) )
Storm Nordwind: pooey to refactoring! :)
Bruce Mowbray tries to laugh off his fright at the term "refactoring."
Storm Nordwind: Just because I used to be a software engineer, it doesn't mean that I still use their terminology :)
    Storm Nordwind: Hi there Yaku
    Bruce Mowbray: Hello, Yaku!
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey guys
    Qt Core: Hi jaku
Qt Core: why not ? it is so fun to have a secret language unknown to the outsiders ;-)
Storm Nordwind: if I wanted that, I'd speak American! ;-)
Storm Nordwind: But what has surprised me is that there been no email comment at all
Storm Nordwind: people seem more concerned with Emerald
Bruce Mowbray: I've read your messages about cutting back on costs at PaB and also about recruiting donations -- and fully support both efforts, and am grateful to Storm for doing all this WORK.
    Storm Nordwind: Thank you Bruce!
Qt Core: me to, and i usually don't send "me too": emails
    Storm Nordwind smiles
Bruce Mowbray: I'm also grateful that Storm helped Aphrodite find her lost plot here.
Bruce Mowbray: (or maybe they've not found it yet -- just looking. . . )
Storm Nordwind: She found a plot then lost it then found it again :)
Qt Core: had only a minor question, the not yet assigned (if there are some) guardian plots will survive ? i herda that (almost obvioulsy) the used one will
Bruce Mowbray: Yeppers -- That's Aph!
Storm Nordwind: They will all survive
Qt Core: after almost an year i'm still debating with myself if i want/need one (i don't have land, nor rent, basically homeless in sl)
Bruce Mowbray: me too, Qt. . .
Bruce Mowbray: and I rather like that freedom.
Storm Nordwind: That explains your unshaven look Qt ;)
    Qt Core: :-D
Qt Core: i think that most than having a home the nice thing is having your own home built by yourself if ever
    Storm Nordwind: Yes I agree
    Qt Core: more
Qt Core: if not built from scratch, choosing all the elements
Storm Nordwind: There's no shame in buying things rather than building. :)
Qt Core: neither in freebies ;-)
Qt Core: well, maybe in the "not created" as freebies as that may lower the interest in "money oriented" builders
Storm Nordwind: It's interesting. Why do people build anything here? Lots of reasons I can think of... fun, artistic beauty, utility... i wonder if there are any more
    Bruce Mowbray: Hello, Eliza.
    Storm Nordwind: Good morning Eliza
Qt Core: the feeling of god-like powers ?
    Qt Core: hi Eliza
Storm Nordwind: Or goddess in Eliza's case :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Everyone :) ;-)
Bruce Mowbray ponders "god-like powers" -- a whole new vision for him.
Qt Core: i thing the creation of new things may be a very freeing experience too, for people repressed in rl by school/career/wife/huspands/etc etc
Storm Nordwind: That's very interesting... do you know of people here like that?
Qt Core: no, just an idea i got
Storm Nordwind: It's a good intuition
Storm Nordwind: The modern equivalent of writing a secret novel
Bruce Mowbray: Hey, Storm -- a quick question regarding 3D software. . .
Qt Core: or build a replica od the Titanic with toothpicks
Bruce Mowbray: Do you know if it's possible to import OBJ models into SL?
Bruce Mowbray: (OBJ models made with Lightwave, MAYA, etc.)?
Storm Nordwind smiles at the image of the Titantic
Storm Nordwind: I'm almost certain that it isn't possible, Bruce
    Qt Core: Oh, hi Alfred
Storm Nordwind: The only thing you can do is convert to a sculptured prim texture
Alfred Kelberry: *little boxy sneaks in*
    Alfred Kelberry: oi :)
Bruce Mowbray: OK. . . Just wondering. I've done a LOT of work with Poser and was just wondering if I could being some of those models into SL.
Storm Nordwind: I boxy. Are you flammable? ;)
    Storm Nordwind: *Hi
Bruce Mowbray: I will check out "sculptured prim texture."
    Bruce Mowbray: Hello, Alfred.
Alfred Kelberry: is 7 am your usual time for a pab meeting, storm? i don't see you often in the other times.
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Alfred :)
Storm Nordwind: Yes it is Alfred
Alfred Kelberry: ok, good to see you :)
Storm Nordwind: perhaps you don't hang out around the same wild places that I do Alfred! ;-)
    Alfred Kelberry: could be :)
Alfred Kelberry: i actually visit like 4 places here in sl
    Eliza Madrigal: ouch, Bruce
Alfred Kelberry: oh, bruce is on fire! :)
    Storm Nordwind: Sunburn Bruce?
Eliza Madrigal: quick, throw him in the pool
Bruce Mowbray: Just exercising my god-like powers a bit.
    Qt Core: worrying about blurb///
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bruce Mowbray: Burning Man, burning bush, burning fish . . . . That sort of thing.
Alfred Kelberry: um, this god-like power reminded me of that old accident with a burning monk...
    Eliza Madrigal: burning mush
    Qt Core: burning desire
Qt Core: but not burning food, please ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: I have to go, was just popping in for a moment :) Look forward to hearing more from the gods here in this towered pavillion in the middle of nowhere ;-)
Alfred Kelberry: "burn, burn, burn... the ring of fire, the ring of fire"
Qt Core: Bye Eliza, have fun
Eliza Madrigal: *columned, rather than tower :) Bye for now
Alfred Kelberry: have a good day, eliza
    Bruce Mowbray: Bye, Eliza.
    Alfred Kelberry: oh, pretty bling
    Bruce Mowbray: ?????
Alfred Kelberry: is it what happens when you reach enlightment? :)
    Bruce Mowbray: Blinding Light?
Storm Nordwind: It's what happens when you heart NY ;)
    Alfred Kelberry: hmm, ok :)
Bruce Mowbray: Well, Blub and I DO INDEED hart NY -- and will be there three weeks from today!
Bruce Mowbray: heart NY, that is.
    Alfred Kelberry: safe trip, bruce
Bruce Mowbray wonders when the Blinding Light of "enlightenment" will wear off -- realizing that nothing is permanent.
Bruce Mowbray heaves a big sign of relief.
    Bruce Mowbray: sigh.
    Qt Core: after dropping... ungodding
Storm Nordwind: Here's a common question that children ask each other... if you had godlike powers - in RL - what powers would you choose? And is there an equivalent in SL?
Alfred Kelberry: um, i don't remember... is modern zen teaching saying that enlightment is sudden or gradual?
Alfred Kelberry: equivalent in sl? kids actually asking that? :)
Storm Nordwind: Alfred - I believe Zen is one of the traditions that takes the sudden way. Some others prefer the gradual way
Bruce Mowbray: As I understand it, Zen teaching says that Enlightenment is our natural state -- always already present.
Qt Core: just covered by the mess the world is ;-)
Alfred Kelberry: you refer to buddha within ourselves?
Qt Core: like most important papers on my desk ;-)
    Alfred Kelberry: qt, right :)
Alfred Kelberry: what color is your desk, qt? :)
Bruce Mowbray: "state" is a poor word (sorry) - - Perhaps "condition" or "presence". . . . Words fail me here.
Qt Core: wood i have the free space i need to use the keyboard and mouse ;-)
Alfred Kelberry: your anchors to oneself? :)
Alfred Kelberry: storm, thank you. i think sudden is how it came to japan then, since satori is what happens suddenly
Storm Nordwind: But Bruce's comment is still relevant - perhaps you are finding what is already there, what you already are - perhaps you see the sky as a whole, rather than just the clouds
    Storm Nordwind: Hi Arch
Archmage Atlantis: Yes, but what happens suddenly is long in the making
Alfred Kelberry: yes, i agree. i think it's a reference to "buddha within ourselves" whom we unite with (?) when reach enlightment
    Bruce Mowbray: Hi, Arch.
    Alfred Kelberry: oi, archy
    Qt Core: Hi Arch
Archmage Atlantis: Ohm, Hi /aStorm, QY, Buce, Taku
    Archmage Atlantis: and Alfred
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Bruce Mowbray: . . . or (responding to Al) whom we discover has always been who/what we are and always have been.
    Alfred Kelberry waves
Alfred Kelberry: bruce, i like it :)
    Archmage Atlantis: Good name
Storm Nordwind: Perhaps Alfred. The problem, however, of using the term "buddha within ourselves" is that it encourages the illusion of separation. "It's within but it's not me"
Archmage Atlantis: I get some extra dumb, as I am trying to force mysel t to use v2
Alfred Kelberry: what archy said about being long in the making, i think it unites the two approaches: sudden and gradual
    Alfred Kelberry: storm, hmm...
Alfred Kelberry: well, it's just a reference to "something" that may not be put in words properly
Bruce Mowbray: Hey, Arch. . . I've always used V2 and love it. If I can help you find your ways around V2, don't hesitate to say so.
Alfred Kelberry: i get your point, though. it may be... confusing
Storm Nordwind: Anything that is "something" sounds like it's separate. And the delusion of conceptuality and separation is a barrier in itself
    Alfred Kelberry: heh, true :)
Alfred Kelberry: archy, i'm using v2 for a while now and at first being opposed to it, i tried to open to a new experience and now i actually like it :)
Bruce Mowbray: In the Shambhala tradition (Trungpa Ripoche, etc.) we begin with Basic Goodness - - - not with "suffering" as our basic posture vis a vis the universe.
Bruce Mowbray: This, for me, makes discovery of one's own Buddha-hood somewhat easier and more natural.
Archmage Atlantis: All that is within us, is us..,,,, thiough we may chose to look at as separate
Bruce Mowbray: agrees totally with Arch -- sharing Being with all.
Storm Nordwind: Bruce - please explain what you mean by Basic Goodness. Doesn't the idea of Good imply some kind of not-Good and hence duality? Or do I misunderstand? (Very likely!) :)
Bruce Mowbray: No it does not imply that (in the Shambhala tradition).
Archmage Atlantis: Siddhartha never said to suffer, he only said what causes it
Bruce Mowbray: Basic Goodness is the natural condition. . . and also What/who we are - - - , which I (and Shambhala, in general) interpret as Buddha-hood (of all things).
Storm Nordwind: I see. I just wondered about the choice of the word Goodness, as to most non-spiritually interested people it might imply a duality, and what you're describing seems something beyond that :)
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I understand. "Basic Goodness" is one of those frequently-used "buzz phrases" -- in that tradition.
    Bruce Mowbray: Like "Windhorse"
    Alfred Kelberry: what's windhorse?
Bruce Mowbray: Windhorse - - - when body/mind are infused with Basic Goodness and energized.
Bruce Mowbray: The Windhorse Farm (ranch?) in Nova Scotia (site of the last RL retreat) is named after that.
Qt Core: somethink like the "full of spirit" of Gospels ?
Alfred Kelberry: interesting choice of a word
Archmage Atlantis: Yesterday, I and my expartner, went to an Indian grocerer here........
Bruce Mowbray: Windhorse comes into Buddhism through a shamanic tradition:
    Bruce Mowbray: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_Horse
Archmage Atlantis: The spices are wonderful
Bruce Mowbray: say more, please, Arch.
Alfred Kelberry: bruce, must be very old
Archmage Atlantis: Yes, the gospels are full of the sprirt of the teacher known as Jesus
Archmage Atlantis: And, I even will now admit
Qt Core: well, i hope so, Arch ;-)
    Archmage Atlantis: Of Pau
    Archmage Atlantis: Paul
    Archmage Atlantis: Oh the spices
Bruce Mowbray: It was explained to me, once, that the "horse" part refers to our physical nature and the "wind" part refers to energetic "spirit" nature. I love the image as a metaphor of mindfulness practice.
Archmage Atlantis: Um, well for the price of a small container in the grocery store
Archmage Atlantis: we bought bags of spice
Bruce Mowbray: spices are for cooking -- or for scent in a room, or. . . ?
Alfred Kelberry: "The wind horse is an allegory for the human soul in the shamanistic tradition of Central Asia." - now i see the reason behind the word. horses were very important in central asian steppe.
Storm Nordwind: Step 1 in good Indian cooking: Always fry your spices first, before addding anything else to cook! :)
Archmage Atlantis: Fresher, and more "there".........and for cooking *smiles*
Qt Core: yes, i do that even for non indian cooking nowadays
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: Sounds like spices add "windhorse" to food!
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Archmage Atlantis: I never used spices before much, only herbs
Bruce Mowbray: Here's a link to the Shambhala tradition's use of the word:
Alfred Kelberry: storm, why would you fry spices?
    Bruce Mowbray: http://www.shambhala.org/teachings/view.php?id=65
Storm Nordwind: Because Alfred you want what you're cooking to taste the best it can!
Bruce Mowbray: Windhorse = the unlimited energy of basic goodness, buddhanature, inherent wakefulness
Qt Core: so the spices enters the food with the oil
    Storm Nordwind: Exactly
Archmage Atlantis: We have a good company here is S Florida that sells dried beans, I think their family is Cuban....I know, however the beans turn out well
Alfred Kelberry: asian spices are often powder-like. you just put them in a pan and fry?
    Storm Nordwind: yes
    Alfred Kelberry: ok :)
Qt Core: starting to want someting spicey for dinner ;-)
Archmage Atlantis: I brown them in oil......I want a mortar and pestle to grind whole ones
    Storm Nordwind: hehe!
    Alfred Kelberry: brown?
Storm Nordwind: As Qt says, it flavors the oil. So just don't burn them!
    Alfred Kelberry: oh, got it
Archmage Atlantis: Agree, burning spoils them
    Storm Nordwind: Experiment and practice
Qt Core: ok, have to go grocery shopping,. maybe i'll find something .... spiceable ;-)
    Storm Nordwind chuckles
    Archmage Atlantis: Oh, I'm floating,hmm
Bruce Mowbray: And I want to get out for a hike with my dog now.
    Storm Nordwind: Bye Qt!
Bruce Mowbray: May all have a happy day.
Alfred Kelberry: i like your pants, qt :)
    Archmage Atlantis: There
    Archmage Atlantis: By QT
    Qt Core: ty alfred
    Alfred Kelberry: spicy too :)
Bruce Mowbray: Goodbye, everyone, and THANKS!
Archmage Atlantis: It is nice to come here and find friends
    Storm Nordwind waves
    Yakuzza Lethecus: bye everyone
    Storm Nordwind smiles at Arch
    Archmage Atlantis: Buenas Noches
Alfred Kelberry: i feel the same, archy :)
    Yakuzza Lethecus: take care arch
Storm Nordwind: I must fly too
    Alfred Kelberry: bye stormy
    Storm Nordwind: Happy frying Alfred
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
