    Soraya Till: thanks
Aphrodite Macbain: People drift in slowly on Saturday
Soraya Till: I looked at KIRa's website
    Aphrodite Macbain: yes?
    Soraya Till: Looks very intereting
Aphrodite Macbain: There's a lot going on
    Soraya Till: what's going on?
Aphrodite Macbain: Did you read the web site? and the list of activities at KIRA?
Aphrodite Macbain: Please observe silence till the bell rings again
Soraya Till: i saw some of them, yes
    Soraya Till: i saw that
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Mickorod
Soraya Till: are we being recorded now?
    Aphrodite Macbain: yes
Soraya Till: and that's on the website?
Aphrodite Macbain: There is a sign in the fountain that says "recording"
Mickorod Renard: hi, I think I am somewhere here, not sure where
Aphrodite Macbain: You are a piece of white cloud right now MIck
Mickorod Renard: yes, the recording is on all the time we are here
    Mickorod Renard: thanks
Aphrodite Macbain: Yes - when it says recording. Can you see that?
Soraya Till: yes i see that now
Aphrodite Macbain: the record then gets emailed to the Guardian (who is me right now) who uploads it on to the P@B web site
Aphrodite Macbain: There are some great chats to read there
Mickorod Renard: the recording of the log will be available to the public to view
Aphrodite Macbain: Yes- the public that logs into the wiki web site
Aphrodite Macbain: They are in the process of tidying up the web site.
Mickorod Renard: hi, I may have to tp out and back in
    Aphrodite Macbain: OK Mick
Aphrodite Macbain: mark this site first
Mickorod Renard: ahh, thats better, i can see you now
Aphrodite Macbain: we have fascinating discussions based on the essays you find on the website
Aphrodite Macbain: discussing for instance the concept of Play as Being
Mickorod Renard: so its your first visit Soraya?
Aphrodite Macbain: we are a philosophical lot
    Soraya Till: yes it is
Soraya Till: Aphrodite introduced me to it today
    Mickorod Renard: thats great
Aphrodite Macbain: You've been here before haven't you Mick?
Mickorod Renard: It gets interesting here sometimes
Mickorod Renard: yes, I am a guardian
Mickorod Renard: been here for a couple of years I think
Mickorod Renard: went to one rl retreat too
    Mickorod Renard: Malta
    Soraya Till: interesting
Aphrodite Macbain: Wow. That must have been fun!
Aphrodite Macbain: It is quite an international group.
Mickorod Renard: I would like to go to another, there is one soon in Germany that I cannot make
Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Alexie, Hi stevenaia
Mickorod Renard: but next year there is one in assisi I would like to do
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello
stevenaia Michinaga: thanks for the invite
Aphrodite Macbain: Oh really? I'm going to Assisi this October!
    Mickorod Renard: Hi Steve
    Mickorod Renard: yes
Mickorod Renard: Its advertised on the web site
Soraya Till: Is it in Italian there then?
    Mickorod Renard: Italy
Aphrodite Macbain: Steve- meet Soraya, Soraya, meet steve
    Soraya Till: Hi Steve
stevenaia Michinaga: hello, nice to see you here
Mickorod Renard: I think most are done in English
Aphrodite Macbain: Yes, it's in Umbria. The birthplace of Rafael
Soraya Till: but the language of the retreat?
Mickorod Renard: because its so mixed in attendance
Aphrodite Macbain: There are amazing frescos by Giotto in Assisi
    Aphrodite Macbain: English
    Aphrodite Macbain: Right Mick?
Aphrodite Macbain: Have you ever been to an SL conference in RL?
    stevenaia Michinaga: SL Conference?
Mickorod Renard: no, just the retreat
Aphrodite Macbain: sorry, the SL retreat
Mickorod Renard: funny, my chat is not showing up for me
stevenaia Michinaga: I have met many PaB'ers in RL
    Mickorod Renard: yes??
    Aphrodite Macbain: Really?
Aphrodite Macbain: Did you click on communicate and then nearby chat?
stevenaia Michinaga: nods, I am near princeton
Mickorod Renard: mmm,,no, but I dont usually have to
stevenaia Michinaga: so when there is a retreat there I try to make it
Aphrodite Macbain: Can you maximize your screen?
Soraya Till: What's a retreat like?
Soraya Till: What do you do?
    Mickorod Renard: ok,done that
    Mickorod Renard: thats better
stevenaia Michinaga: like meeting new avatars :) only nicer
    Soraya Till: :)
Mickorod Renard: oops, no it isnt

Getting to know your avis more despite appearances

stevenaia Michinaga: Mick, you are a cloud to me
    Soraya Till: to me too
Aphrodite Macbain: I'd wonder whether it would spoil the magic-meeting the avatars for real
    Aphrodite Macbain: in a retreat
stevenaia Michinaga: not at all, it's better
Aphrodite Macbain: Would your attitudes towards them change?
Soraya Till: I think it would
stevenaia Michinaga: better than meeting someone w/o an avatar
Soraya Till: it's a bit like reading a book and then seein the movie I think
    Aphrodite Macbain: really?
stevenaia Michinaga: you see aspects of them you would never have gotten from Just RL
Aphrodite Macbain: you like people better if they have an avatar Steve?
stevenaia Michinaga: not better, you just understand much more of them
Aphrodite Macbain: yes, I suppose you get to know people more completely
Soraya Till: I guess that's true
stevenaia Michinaga: the first retreat was such a suprise
    Aphrodite Macbain: How?
stevenaia Michinaga: young ppl got old, woman avatars were male people
    Aphrodite Macbain: haha. how strange
    stevenaia Michinaga: furries became people
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: It must have taken a bit of getting used to
stevenaia Michinaga: but even that cuddly people remained cuddly
    Aphrodite Macbain: hehe
    Soraya Till: :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: no, instantanious
Aphrodite Macbain: We tend to judge people on their appearance
stevenaia Michinaga: Pema does not have long red hair in RL
    stevenaia Michinaga: for instance
Mickorod Renard: I found that the trasition was so quick and natural when meeting the real person, even if appearance was so diferent the character comes through
Aphrodite Macbain: so it must mess up our judgements
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes Mick
stevenaia Michinaga: no, not judgements, perceptions
    Soraya Till: prejudices?
Aphrodite Macbain: so interesting. we (or at least you two) are far more flexible that I thought
stevenaia Michinaga: no, how you "see" someone changes
    stevenaia Michinaga: grins
Aphrodite Macbain: I see... I guess
stevenaia Michinaga: haha, you're RL pic looks like my avatar, Aphrodite
    Aphrodite Macbain: hehe

Aphrodite Macbain: Are you greater friends with them after meeting them in RL?
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
Mickorod Renard: pab seems to bring out tolerance that seems to eliminate prejudice
Aphrodite Macbain: except I have grey hair not blonde
    Aphrodite Macbain: but thanks,
stevenaia Michinaga: hehe, so do I
    Soraya Till: Pls excuse me
Mickorod Renard: I would like to believe that my avi has similarities to me in rl, parhaps younger though
Soraya Till: I have to get back to RL
Aphrodite Macbain: What a great exercise it would be - to organize a sensitivity training program in SL that address prejudice based on appearance
Soraya Till: It was nice meeting you all
    stevenaia Michinaga: nice meeting you
Mickorod Renard: nice meeting you too
Aphrodite Macbain: Thanks for coming Soraya
    Aphrodite Macbain: Bye
Aphrodite Macbain: Soraya is in the meditation group that meets every morning at 7AM
Aphrodite Macbain: That's where I first met most of the people I know
Mickorod Renard: its funny how disconcerting it is when my chat doesnt show after I have typed and sent it
Aphrodite Macbain: in SL that is
stevenaia Michinaga: so you are not a middle aged blond in RL Aphrodite?
Aphrodite Macbain: You can't read it at all? Can you read this?
    stevenaia Michinaga: hmmm,
Mickorod Renard: wow, is she european or us?
Mickorod Renard: yes, I can read yours
Aphrodite Macbain: I am a middle aged grey in RL
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
Aphrodite Macbain: what a question Mick. She's American
    Mickorod Renard: ok cool
Aphrodite Macbain: is that "us"? or U.S.?
    Mickorod Renard: thanks
    Mickorod Renard: yes, US sorry
stevenaia Michinaga: I must go too, Relatives are departing in RL
    stevenaia Michinaga: see you soon
    Aphrodite Macbain: I'm Canadian

Mickorod Renard: ok, I am English
    Mickorod Renard: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: bye steve, thanks for dropping in. Great to, um, see you
Aphrodite Macbain: You love in England?
    Aphrodite Macbain: I mean live:-)
Mickorod Renard: I try and be more specific than American cos that includes such a number of countries north south and central
Mickorod Renard: yes, I live here in the uk
Aphrodite Macbain: Yes. Do you live in England?
Mickorod Renard: and I love it
    Aphrodite Macbain: near London?
Mickorod Renard: well, its a small country but I am perhaps an hour and a half drive from London

Of Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Dorset and beyond

    Mickorod Renard: yes England
Aphrodite Macbain: My granddparents used to live in Dorset and my father was from Yorkshire
Mickorod Renard: wow, a few miles apart
Aphrodite Macbain: but it's been far too long since I've been in England
    Aphrodite Macbain: yes!
Mickorod Renard: when did they move to Canada, or was it that you did not them??

Aphrodite Macbain: I can sing on ilkley moor bar tat
    Aphrodite Macbain: hehe
Mickorod Renard: wow, that a good one especially after a few pints of beer
Aphrodite Macbain: I moved to Canada in the 50s - from Kenya where we were living at the time. British ex pats we were. I was born in India
    Mickorod Renard: amazing
Mickorod Renard: what a rich background
    Mickorod Renard: as in culkture
    Mickorod Renard: culture*
Aphrodite Macbain: yes i suppose. I've travelled many miles
Aphrodite Macbain: and in 2 weeks I'll be in Italy!
    Mickorod Renard: wow
Aphrodite Macbain: What about you, were you born just outside London?
    Mickorod Renard: holidays?
    Aphrodite Macbain: yes
    Aphrodite Macbain: practising my Italian
Mickorod Renard: No, I was born in Derbyshire
    Mickorod Renard: thats north midlands
    Aphrodite Macbain: where is that?
    Mickorod Renard: just under Yorkshire
Mickorod Renard: thats a good idea, for your language skills
Aphrodite Macbain: ah! I don't think I've ever been there but I imagine green rolling hills and horses
Mickorod Renard: you should get chatting to QT
    Mickorod Renard: or Arabella
Aphrodite Macbain: Yes, I have. I also go to this great SL site in Siena
Aphrodite Macbain: I don't know Arabella
Mickorod Renard: well, that is about right, I live close to Stratford upon Avon now
Aphrodite Macbain: are you a shakespear fan?
Mickorod Renard: Ara usually comes on around this time, although I know she wont be tonight
Aphrodite Macbain: looks like you're a motorcycle fan
Mickorod Renard: I do like shakespear plays yes
Mickorod Renard: and yes, I love motorbikes
    Aphrodite Macbain: :-) interesting image
    Mickorod Renard: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: shakespear on a motorbike
Mickorod Renard: is that in my profile?
    Mickorod Renard: he he
Aphrodite Macbain: Just an avi on a motorbike
Aphrodite Macbain: What kind of work do you do?
Mickorod Renard: it didnt seem right not having a bike on sl
Mickorod Renard: I work in education
    Aphrodite Macbain: :-) It's a handsome one
    Mickorod Renard: ty
Aphrodite Macbain: Do you teach or manage?
    Mickorod Renard: teach
    Mickorod Renard: design and technology
Aphrodite Macbain: Interesting. I've met a number of teachers on SL
    Aphrodite Macbain: To youth?
    Aphrodite Macbain: in a college?
Mickorod Renard: thats like woodwork, metalwork, computer aided design and so forth
Aphrodite Macbain: What is the most popular? Digital technology?
Mickorod Renard: in a college but that covers young kids too
    Aphrodite Macbain: You're busy!
Mickorod Renard: well, I think the hands on is a break for them
Aphrodite Macbain: I teach on line for the Uni of Victoria, in British Columbia
    Mickorod Renard: wow, what subject?
Aphrodite Macbain: It's a whole different way of teaching -mainly thru text
    Aphrodite Macbain: Building Community Relationships
Mickorod Renard: yes, its a strange concept for many
    Mickorod Renard: nice
Aphrodite Macbain: I teach art museums, galleries, libraries, cultural workers of all kinds throughout the English speaking world
    Mickorod Renard: that sounds facinating
Aphrodite Macbain: It's great to get all these different perspectives
    Mickorod Renard: yes
Mickorod Renard: so how deep does that get?
Aphrodite Macbain: I used to work in art galleries(most of my life) but I was frustrated by how unconnected the galleries were from the general public
Mickorod Renard: is it more on presentation etc or even management of artifacts?
    Mickorod Renard: ok, i see
    Mickorod Renard: more people management
Aphrodite Macbain: no its on how to connect with their community more effectively. How to find ways of being relevant to the public
Mickorod Renard: thats such a good idea
Aphrodite Macbain: collaborations, consensus building, listening and more listening,
Mickorod Renard: times move on, museums by nature must get stagnant
Aphrodite Macbain: serving a public agenda rather that the museum's
Mickorod Renard: yes, I like the idea
Aphrodite Macbain: It's hard for those who have been there for a while
Aphrodite Macbain: to change and give up power

    Red lights falling

Mickorod Renard: I guess most dont like change
    Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
Aphrodite Macbain: You have a great red light falling down on you!
Mickorod Renard: the great red light?
Aphrodite Macbain: Can you see it?
    Mickorod Renard: the spot light
    Mickorod Renard: no?
Aphrodite Macbain: Yes. It's like someone is locating this spot
Aphrodite Macbain: I think it's Storm
    Mickorod Renard: wierd
Mickorod Renard: ahh, could be, he changes stuff around here, well I think he created most of it
Aphrodite Macbain: I must go back to work now but it was great talking with you
Mickorod Renard: ok, lovely to chat
Mickorod Renard: I hope to meet again
    Aphrodite Macbain: Bye Mickorod!
    Mickorod Renard: bye
Mickorod Renard: I may take the log
Mickorod Renard: unless you have it?
