A lovely evening with Aphrodite Macbain, Ewan Bonham and Hana Furlough

    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Aphrodite
stevenaia Michinaga: are you predicting rain?
Aphrodite Macbain: Tadad atadeeda Singing in the rain!
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: just singing in the rain
Aphrodite Macbain: I changed into Fred Astair briefly
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: never thought of an avistar
    Aphrodite Macbain: What'snew?
    Aphrodite Macbain: an avi celeb

    --BELL--

Aphrodite Macbain: I'm going to change my umbrella to match each outfit
stevenaia Michinaga: I just caught my spouses head/throat/chest cold, I;m sure I'll have it for the next few rainy days and on to the weekend :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: Busy day?
Aphrodite Macbain: argh. I think I have the same thing. Just in my throat and chest
stevenaia Michinaga: thinking, I slowed down a bit
Aphrodite Macbain: c/be a bacteria - have it checked
Aphrodite Macbain: it may be fixable
stevenaia Michinaga: had a very big laugh with officemate, when ever re work together we always brake out in laughter
    stevenaia Michinaga: flexible?
    stevenaia Michinaga: oh fixable
stevenaia Michinaga: what do you mean?
Aphrodite Macbain: what were you laughing about or does it loose in the translation?
Aphrodite Macbain: fixable- as in fixing your cold
stevenaia Michinaga: it's long an complicated and happens kind, the kind of laugh that you can;t talk and tears come out of your eyes
stevenaia Michinaga: what do you recommend for a cure other than plenty of liquids
Aphrodite Macbain: Very cathartic. I rarely laugh like that.
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: anti-biotic if its a bacteria. Can't do anything about viruses
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
    Aphrodite Macbain: Penicillin
stevenaia Michinaga: I tend to heal fairly quickly
Aphrodite Macbain: or one of its variants.
stevenaia Michinaga: seems to be going around
Aphrodite Macbain: Sleep, drink liquids and sleep some more- and maybe laugh a lot
stevenaia Michinaga: spouse came home from the DR w/ codeine, so much for a cure
Aphrodite Macbain: well it helps with the throat
stevenaia Michinaga: so does tea and honey
Aphrodite Macbain: I missed Tai Chi and Pilates - didn't have the jam
    stevenaia Michinaga: jam?
Aphrodite Macbain: and ginger with the tea and honey
    Aphrodite Macbain: jam=energy
stevenaia Michinaga: nods, good idea, I have that around too
    stevenaia Michinaga: in SL?
    Aphrodite Macbain: jam or ginger?
stevenaia Michinaga: I had Tai Chi yesterday
    stevenaia Michinaga: ginger
    Aphrodite Macbain: you HAD it?
    stevenaia Michinaga: my Tuesday class
    Aphrodite Macbain: Tai tea?
stevenaia Michinaga: you mean Chi Tea...grins
stevenaia Michinaga: no Tai Chi class
Aphrodite Macbain: So you do Tai Chi as well? isn't it great?
stevenaia Michinaga: I mean my tai chi class in RL
Aphrodite Macbain: Just an hour a week but it makes a difference (in RL)
stevenaia Michinaga: I've only been doing it for 1 1/2 yrs
Aphrodite Macbain: I've been doing it off and on for a while. I like this class because I don't have to remember anything. I just follow what he does
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, I enjoy it, like it better than yoga, when I was doing that before
Aphrodite Macbain: eventually it will stick
stevenaia Michinaga: my teacher makes us remember as part of the learning
    stevenaia Michinaga: very cruel
Aphrodite Macbain: I do both - for different reasons- and pilates. What I don't get enough of is aerobic exercise
Aphrodite Macbain: but I'm very flexible...and have strong abs
stevenaia Michinaga: nods, I used to do Palaties, for about a year, then went on vacation for two weeks and when I came back to class it was like I just started, kept nothing
    Aphrodite Macbain: frustrating isn't it?
Aphrodite Macbain: what was that in the sky behind you?
stevenaia Michinaga: so I moved on to yoga, I felt that was to much work for just standing there
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Hana
    Ewan Bonham: Hi folks..
    stevenaia Michinaga: hi Ewan
Hana Furlough: Hi Stevenaia, Ewan, Aphrodite
Aphrodite Macbain: Oh it must have been Hana
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hello Hana
stevenaia Michinaga: then I discovered Tai Chi, which suits me much better
Aphrodite Macbain: I'd be a mess if I didn't do yoga
stevenaia Michinaga: something I had been meaning to learn, just never had the opportunity until I found a class
Hana Furlough: cool to have been that thing in the sky behind you : )
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Ewan
    stevenaia Michinaga: (am a mess_
Ewan Bonham: Or if i didn't meditate..
stevenaia Michinaga: thing in the sky?
Hana Furlough: can you say more about that ewan and Aphrodite?
    Aphrodite Macbain: yes.
stevenaia Michinaga: brb, starting tea water
Aphrodite Macbain: Yoga keeps me open and focussed and flexible
    Hana Furlough: good idea, stevena
Aphrodite Macbain: meditating is the calm center to my day
Aphrodite Macbain: may I have a cup - herbal?
Hana Furlough: so you do both, then?
Ewan Bonham: Aph...it is for me as well..
Ewan Bonham: A time to calibrate my mind..
    Hana Furlough: agreed
Aphrodite Macbain: I've just taken some plum tarts out of the oven. would anyone like one?
Hana Furlough: do you ever have trouble integrating your experiences meditating into real life?
Ewan Bonham: Lol..please don't tempt me...
Aphrodite Macbain: Sometimes I meditate before going to bed especially if I'm upset or worried

    --BELL--

    Hana Furlough: sounds fantastic
Ewan Bonham: I do that as well..
Ewan Bonham: Hard to start at those times...
    Ewan Bonham: Cause I perseverate...
    Ewan Bonham: perseverate
    Ewan Bonham: perseverate
stevenaia Michinaga: boil water, steep for 15 minutes, hmmm, will be ready at next chime
    Hana Furlough: lol!
Aphrodite Macbain: Mmm I have green tea too
stevenaia Michinaga: chopped up some ginger too
Aphrodite Macbain: smart. that will help the cold
Ewan Bonham: Ginger brightens me up..
stevenaia Michinaga: you asked about integrating Rl and meditation? Do you ever do a task that feels restorative like meditation?
Aphrodite Macbain: Yes, when I paint watercolors
    Hana Furlough: walking? reading poetry?
    Aphrodite Macbain: walking too, absolutely
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, drawing is a big one for me, but even gardening, where nothing else intrudes
Ewan Bonham: Walking and Nature Hikes..
Hana Furlough: careful, stevenaia, too much caffeine and you won't be able to sleep tonight
    Hana Furlough: hehehe
Aphrodite Macbain: gardening is the best. I wish I had one. Right now I tend to plants on the roof of our building
stevenaia Michinaga: where the focus is on the next step , or the next brush or pen stroke
Aphrodite Macbain: tomatoes are turning red!
stevenaia Michinaga: my day is much like that
Aphrodite Macbain: God is in the details
    stevenaia Michinaga: hehe
Ewan Bonham: Where roughly are you Aphro?
Aphrodite Macbain: even washing up or doing the laundry can be meditative
Aphrodite Macbain: I'm roughly in Vancouver, Canada Ewan
    stevenaia Michinaga: lol
Aphrodite Macbain: Living in a small co-op with 20 other suites
stevenaia Michinaga: a rather talkative cup...looks for another
Aphrodite Macbain: you are floating again steve. you must be enlightened
Ewan Bonham: Here in Fla. it is still too hot to grow Tomatoes..
    Hana Furlough: haha
Hana Furlough: really? too hot for tomatoes?
stevenaia Michinaga: no, just good tea
Aphrodite Macbain: really? I thought tomatoes loved the heat. they grow like crazy in Sicily
Aphrodite Macbain: I wonder whether we have gardening genes
stevenaia Michinaga: so I try to meditate w/o "work" it seems very much the same to me
    Aphrodite Macbain: planting, nurturing, harvesting
Ewan Bonham: Here, they literally burn up UNTIL about October..
Hana Furlough: so stevenaia, you are basically getting paid to meditate?
Aphrodite Macbain: what do you mean without work steve?
    Aphrodite Macbain: without effort?
stevenaia Michinaga: much of my work is like drawing or gardening kind of focus.. meditative in nature
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
stevenaia Michinaga: I can work all day and be refreshed
Aphrodite Macbain: very creative. but it must be stressful as you have to please your client
    Hana Furlough: nice
    Hana Furlough: that is enviable
Hana Furlough: do you ever get bored?
    stevenaia Michinaga: no
Ewan Bonham: i might have missed it, Steve...what line of work?
Aphrodite Macbain: you must get difficult clients
stevenaia Michinaga: often feel if I retire, I would continue to do the same thing, always different, every day
    Aphrodite Macbain: he's an architect
Hana Furlough: does it ever get stressful?
    stevenaia Michinaga: architect
Aphrodite Macbain: Have you ever designed anything in SL?
stevenaia Michinaga: clients can be a but nutso, but it;s not so bad, deadlines are usually artificial
Hana Furlough: are you your own boss?
Aphrodite Macbain: yes, you were telling me another time that you've learned not to get stressed
stevenaia Michinaga: actually, I don;t build here... to much like work (which makes no sense)
Aphrodite Macbain: sure it makes sense
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, I am my own boss
Aphrodite Macbain: I'd just like to see what you'd come up with! :-)
stevenaia Michinaga: I choose my clients after they choose me
    Hana Furlough: cool
Hana Furlough: how did you learn not to be stressed?
Aphrodite Macbain: so you say no to clients?
    Aphrodite Macbain: refuse work?
stevenaia Michinaga: like smokers do, quit cold turkey :)
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, some have certain traits you can spot a mile away... so you "run"
Aphrodite Macbain: :-) interesting. like what?

    --BELL--

    Aphrodite Macbain: Bad taste?
stevenaia Michinaga: design is a lot like baking, you cannot rush it, when clients want the world in a very short time, they will fail to notice that bread needs to rise, as design needs to be set for a moment to mature
    Hana Furlough: wow cool
    Aphrodite Macbain: Nice metaphor
stevenaia Michinaga: some steps need time, which usually involve collaboration
Aphrodite Macbain: I guess some don't like to collaborate
    Ewan Bonham: smile...
Hana Furlough: so it's not that you're waiting for inspiration?
stevenaia Michinaga: when you build something that may last 100 years, isn;t it worth a few more moments to "get it right" the first time
stevenaia Michinaga: no usually wait for client's impressions to build upon (I;m not a mind reader, you know)
Aphrodite Macbain: today people expect things to be done instantaneously.
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, they don;t enjoy the "process" anymore (baking)
Aphrodite Macbain: I suppose it is important to get to know the client well
    Hana Furlough: seriously
stevenaia Michinaga: well as I can
Ewan Bonham: Or the client to know themselves well..
Aphrodite Macbain: IIt could be like a wonderful conversation
Aphrodite Macbain: Good point Ewan. Sometimes I guess they don't know what they want
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, I need to pick their brain, be a marriage counselor sometimes
    Aphrodite Macbain: hehe
Hana Furlough: do you find you can usually make them happy?
Aphrodite Macbain: I have heard stories of houses being built for a new couple and then the marriage falls apart before the place is built\
stevenaia Michinaga: I do try, some people can't ever be happy, other aren;t happy till the ahhhh moment long after it;s done and they have lived there for a wile, hard to explain that to them after construction, that appreciation follows (usually)
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, I can build such houses, but most couples don;t deserve that
Aphrodite Macbain: I am going to lie down now, my cough is getting worse and I don't want this cold when I go to Italy
stevenaia Michinaga: when do you fly out?
    Hana Furlough: get better aphrodite!
Aphrodite Macbain: Sorry I can't stay longer. Good to meet you Hana, bye steve and Ewan
    Aphrodite Macbain: October 4
stevenaia Michinaga: bye, enjoy your travels
Hana Furlough: great meeting you, too
    Hana Furlough: happy contrails
Aphrodite Macbain: I'll be back before I leave. 1pm Saturday is my slot
Aphrodite Macbain: :-) /me smiles at Hana
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: Hana, did we meet at the Princeton retreat?
Hana Furlough: yeah i think we had dinner together
Hana Furlough: you're from somewhere in PA, right?
stevenaia Michinaga: yes... you were very quiet
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
    Ewan Bonham: Bye aphro..
Hana Furlough: i think we were just seated at different ends of the table
    Hana Furlough: : )
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, a long table, and Storm was most amusing
Hana Furlough: he was! as ever
    Hana Furlough: he's awesome
Ewan Bonham: He is also a big help around here...:)
stevenaia Michinaga: where are you from, roughly?
Ewan Bonham: I am in SW Fla.
    Hana Furlough: yes he is
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, he does have a lot of energy
Hana Furlough: i'm in California at present
stevenaia Michinaga: awww, near ELiza, relatively

    Hana Furlough: haha yes
Ewan Bonham: What are you studying?
Hana Furlough: tell me it is going to get better
    stevenaia Michinaga: lol
