The Guardian for this meeting was Pema Pera. The comments are by Pema Pera. This was one of our four weekly theme meetings on the topic of Being.  The four sessions are at Saturdays, 7 pm, Sundays, 1 pm, Mondays, 7 am, and Tuesdays, 1 am.

    Bleu Oleander: np:)
    oO0Oo Resident blushes
Pema Pera: Great to see so many here already!
Pema Pera: today we'll have a special session on "Being" :-)
Pema Pera: but let's wait just a minute to let stragglers arrive
Maxine Walden: yes, came to get some tips, hints for my session to follow tomorrow, 1pm when I will try the same format
    Kiki Walpanheim: Hi Bruce
    Archmage Atlantis: Bruce!
    Bleu Oleander: hey Bruce
    Bruce Mowbray: Hello!

I summarize the idea behind the theme meeting on Being.

Pema Pera: We will follow the idea that Eden pioneered on Monday morning, namely going around in a circle, clockwise (when seen from above, I presume :-),
Pema Pera: As Eden put it in her log: May I suggest we reflect on what Play as Being means for us NOW, even if you are very recent to Play as Being.
Pema Pera: Perhaps I should just start

Pema Pera: and when I am finished, I can pass the bucket, so to speak, to Paradise, and so on, clockwise
Pema Pera: For me, Play as Being, PaB for short, has been an ongoing adventure, inspiration, challenge, celebration, and much more
Pema Pera: each day it seems like a new challenge, to shift from what I think I have to what I may actually be
Pema Pera: and Being for me is an enormous inspiration
Pema Pera: beyond words and concepts -- hard to express, but I hope that to some degree I am expressing it in my actions :-)
Pema Pera: I'll stop here -- I suggest that we all take one turn, and then we can open the floor to random order speak!
    Pema Pera: Paradise, your turn!

    Paradise Tennant: smiles
Paradise Tennant: well pab i think for me provides a sense of community
Paradise Tennant: a place where I learn .. experience and come to understand more about what life is and what it is no
    Paradise Tennant: Not
Paradise Tennant: and a space where at some point in each day I share my life/time/thoughts with a people who I both respect and enjoy :) :)
    Paradise Tennant: eos ?

Eos Amaterasu: Play as Being for me now is both being here, in SL with you'all,
Eos Amaterasu: and the echo of that in ongoing life, which has qualities of play, openness, transparency, delight, highlights of energy
Eos Amaterasu: just like conversations here
Eos Amaterasu: and also insecapable Being, with aspects of gratitude and listening-to about that as well
Eos Amaterasu: also echoing back here
    Eos Amaterasu: (done)

    Eliza Madrigal: :) thanks... lovely....
Eliza Madrigal: Now, playasbeing is somewhere I can come to *stop*, to listen, to remember to breathe and to notice and appreciate all that is with Friends :)
Eliza Madrigal: (done) Kit, your turn )
    Eliza Madrigal: :)

Kit Ciaco: Thanks - I'm very new here and still figuring things out as I go along - I appreciatiate the opportunity to hear varied themes from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Kit Ciaco: More to come in the next few weeks, I expect!
    Kit Ciaco: Bruce?

Bruce Mowbray: PaB is a campfire - one with unimaginably ancient roots - around which we gather, dance, and share our many diverse tales and ponderings.
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bruce Mowbray: All distances are near.
    Bruce Mowbray: Thank you all.
    Bruce Mowbray: [done]

    Bleu Oleander: :)
Bleu Oleander: PaB .... a center place for me
Bleu Oleander: a fleeting glimpse of Being
Bleu Oleander: never thought I would be here
Bleu Oleander: but have learned so much
Bleu Oleander: and appreciate you all for the friendship, patience and conversation
    Bleu Oleander: 0
Pema Pera: O, would you like to say something?
Pema Pera: about your impression of Play as Being?

oO0Oo Resident: for me... it is an uplifted formulation, to be within an imagined architecture with others...could be anyone, and then that is workable and OK, oftentimes supportive and a way to learn and share my heart
    oO0Oo Resident: (done)

Maxine Walden: PaB for me is certainly the community, as others are saying; but as well, in my private life, rl life...
Maxine Walden: it is a compass point, offering guidance in the direction of Being, amidst the whirl of rl life and events...but also
Maxine Walden: a gentle grounding, perhaps guiding in that way as well...
Maxine Walden: allowing the dismantling of the various important rl 'noises' and concerns, toward a simple internal, 'all is well' gift of 'being'. (done for now)
    Maxine Walden: Arch

    Archmage Atlantis: ty Maxine
Archmage Atlantis: I became more involved in SL with the desire to accomplish a project that I felt (and feel) was (and is) important in my rl.
Archmage Atlantis: That project is now dormant.
Archmage Atlantis: The intelligent, caring individuals I met in PaB are still here,
Archmage Atlantis: and so am I
Archmage Atlantis: (done, for now) - Kiki?

Kiki Walpanheim: I think the practice of Pab is a way to help me stay sane and peaceful when I feel stressed out in all the things in my work and study
Kiki Walpanheim: And, also, the meditation is a way to explore reality
Kiki Walpanheim: to try to seek the transendential essence of reality regardless of its tangible yet transient forms of existence, so as to help me not to get confused by things that block my eyes views before me
Kiki Walpanheim: but to see things in bigger pictures,
    Kiki Walpanheim: also
Kiki Walpanheim: Pab is a community of nice people,
Kiki Walpanheim: I appreciated the mutual understanding, and support mentally i got from here, and the intellectual insprations from the ppl here
    Kiki Walpanheim: ok, finished
    Kiki Walpanheim: Pema

    Open floor:

Pema Pera: Thank you all so much, so glad to hear those various perspectives!
Pema Pera: So from here on we can again speak in whatever order we want
    Kit Ciaco: Wait
    Pema Pera: ?
Kit Ciaco: Pema, may we know your response to the question?
Pema Pera: I already talked, Kit?
    Kit Ciaco: sorry...
Pema Pera: probably just before you came :)
Maxine Walden: ah, Kit came after you had spoken, Pema
Pema Pera: but you give me a great chance to say a bit more
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pema Pera: One topic that I would love to chat a bit about
    Kit Ciaco: hehehehe
Pema Pera: is what Being means
Pema Pera: (Kit, don't tell them I set you up)
    Maxine Walden: :)
Pema Pera: for me, my relationship with Being is deeply devotional
Kit Ciaco: it'll be our little secret - I'll tell no one!
    Bruce Mowbray: ha!
Pema Pera: but not in a way like with an external God
Pema Pera: it is very paradoxical
Pema Pera: but devotion can be without separation
    Pema Pera: and without supplication
Pema Pera: or begging in any form as from a needy position
Pema Pera: I don't know whether that makes any sense at all
Pema Pera: does anyone like to respond or add their angles?
    Bruce Mowbray: yes.
Kit Ciaco: I like the notion of devotion without neediness
oO0Oo Resident represses urge to supplicate to pema
Bruce Mowbray: Well, I am thinking more about the 'campfire' metaphor...
Archmage Atlantis: represses urge to challenge authority *g*
Bruce Mowbray: I am trying to understand why NO ONE in rl appreciates that PaB (and SL) are campfires. . . as they rush to type on their cell phones.
Bruce Mowbray: Around which yet-to-be-visited fires will we see the yet-to-be-named shadows dancing on the walls?
Bruce Mowbray: There is indeed a devotional sense here.
    Bruce Mowbray: [done]
Maxine Walden: I resonate with a sense of reverence toward the vastness of being and the universe
Eliza Madrigal: as others were sharing what floated up was a strong sense of 'here' (which in this case is pab/sl but is really 'always') I drop *the search*... there is a giving up, and yes that seems devotional to me as well
Kit Ciaco: Bruce, do you reckon we each carry our campfires with us?
Paradise Tennant: smiles at the dancing shawdows :) in a appreciatively devout way :)
    Eliza Madrigal: (end)
Bruce Mowbray: I reckon so -- (and I meant to say that no one in MY rl...)
Bruce Mowbray: sry for interrupting Eliza.
Eliza Madrigal: :) @ carrying campfires
Kiki Walpanheim: I sometimes or at least for a while really am very eager or even needy, wanting to apprehend things well, but gruadually i try to manage to make it perhaps a life long exploration, not to finish in a day.....not possible any way
Eliza Madrigal: not at all, a little popcorn is yummy Bruce, hehe
    Pema Pera: :-)
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Kiki Walpanheim: and bruce, is the campfire talking a metarphor?
Pema Pera: yes, Kiki, and at the same time we are all finished already -- that is part of the devotion . . .
Bruce Mowbray: yes, Kiki, it is.
Pema Pera: there is nothing to do
Pema Pera: or see or learn -- and yet there is!
    Kiki Walpanheim: nods
Kit Ciaco: I think the imagery of stories that Bruce suggested is what brings us here, and what we take away with us....
Archmage Atlantis: For me, a metaphor is just a reality hidden in words.
    Maxine Walden: interesting, Arch
    Pema Pera: hi Cal!
Kiki Walpanheim: what does being mean to you.....maybe it is a big question heh heh
Calvino Rabeni: Good evening Pema, everyone :)
Paradise Tennant: smiles Il dolce far niente the sweetness of doing nothing ..the sweetness of being :)
    Kiki Walpanheim: evening cal
    Paradise Tennant: hiya cal :)
    oO0Oo Resident: hi Cal
Pema Pera: we can see all of Being in one little thing -- a smile for example
Pema Pera: or a tear for that matter
    oO0Oo Resident: :)
Pema Pera: or a speck of dust, or a whole galaxy
Kiki Walpanheim: yes, that is particulars of existence
    Paradise Tennant: wb eliza :)
Kiki Walpanheim: is there something transendential , to the little things, intangible, as being
Pema Pera: Being goes beyond all classifications, including the opposition of transcendent versus immanent . . .
Pema Pera: or you can say, Being is both transcendent and immanent
    Pema Pera: :-)
    Kiki Walpanheim: nods
    Eliza Madrigal: ty Paradise :)
Pema Pera: (I'm talking about "Being as I understand it" -- needless to say, my view is just one of many; I always love to hear other views too!)
oO0Oo Resident: pema, could you say more of what you mean by 'devotion'?
Kiki Walpanheim: i was starting up books on philsophy, read of platonic worldview on being, it says the particulars are only becoming cause they are changing all the time, the transendential, or the archetype for sensibe objects are being for they are changeless and timeless and eternal
Kiki Walpanheim: but it is only their kind of worldview
Pema Pera: devotion for me means giving up all attempts to figure out or control anything at all; to step aside and let Being take over, so to speak; I don't know whether that gives some idea?
Pema Pera: and yes, Kiki, all that appears is temporary, fleeting impressions of Being in one way or anothere -- but withotu there being anything fixed or eternal behind, as I understand it
oO0Oo Resident: something you have gained faith or confidence in Pema, without reference point?
Pema Pera: unconditional confidence is a central point, yes
    oO0Oo Resident: ty
Pema Pera: again, hard to "explain" in just a few words :-)
Kiki Walpanheim: without there being anything eternal behind? nods
Pema Pera: but any confidence based on particular conditions is brittle . . .
Maxine Walden: trust in the unknown is one way I think of it...
    oO0Oo Resident: like beat poetry
Pema Pera: so that's perhaps my shortest "definition" of devotion: unconditional confidence
    Pema Pera: yes, Maxine, trust
Paradise Tennant: I think reverence is also a good word .. for what presents itself .. every changing at it may be :)
Archmage Atlantis: For me there are degrees of the awareness of Being, and the fluctuation of that awareness is Being itself
Kiki Walpanheim: awareness of being? do you mean, like epistomology issue
    Pema Pera nods at Paradise
    Kiki Walpanheim: *epistemology
Archmage Atlantis: An example is easiest......today I look at the sky and see the blueness of it, tomorrow I look at the sky and see the vastness of it, some other day I look at the sky and see the birds flying in it......yet in each awareness, I look at the sky
Kiki Walpanheim: arch, do you mean that, the way we perceive reality , we interpret that, is what Being is about
    Pema Pera: nice, Arch!
    Eliza Madrigal: :)) Arh
Archmage Atlantis: Yes, that is a good summary Kiki
    Eliza Madrigal: *arch
Kiki Walpanheim: yes, i think the concrete existence of facts might be more fixed, while the abstractions we make towards them could be very subjective
Eos Amaterasu: sky is playing, arch is playing, being is playing
Kiki Walpanheim: and the way we make abstractions might have a lot to do with our brains more than just with facts themselves
    Paradise Tennant: yes!
Paradise Tennant: our minds see the crack under the door not the entire doorway :)
Eos Amaterasu: the crack is the door ? :-)
Pema Pera: and the notion of having a brain is itself an abstraction
    Archmage Atlantis: :)
Kiki Walpanheim: or even the facts we see can be subjective too, we dont see things with pristine eyes,
    Kiki Walpanheim: nods at pema
oO0Oo Resident: crack is playing, brain is playing
Pema Pera: we're approaching the hour now, and I have to leave soon
    Pema Pera: hahaha, O !
Pema Pera: I enjoyed this very much
Kiki Walpanheim: TY for this session
    oO0Oo Resident: likewise
Pema Pera: looking forward to the next Being session, 17 hours from now
    Pema Pera: with Maxine
Pema Pera: at 1 pm tomorrow, Sunday
Pema Pera: I hope to be there too
Kiki Walpanheim: Take care all. See you again
Pema Pera: even though I'll have to get up at 6 am :-)
    Archmage Atlantis: Yes, ty all
Paradise Tennant: thank you :) pema kiki :)
Eliza Madrigal: Bye Kiki, nice to see you :)
    Archmage Atlantis: later gators
Maxine Walden: wonderful, will try to carry on this wonderful discussion
    Eliza Madrigal: Thanks Pema :)
    Kit Ciaco: Take care, everyone!
    Eos Amaterasu: TY, bye
    Bleu Oleander: night all :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Thanks everyone
    Pema Pera: thanks, everybody!!
    Maxine Walden: bye for now.
oO0Oo Resident: ty everyone for play, devotion, all
Paradise Tennant: waves all round :)
Paradise Tennant: nite nite bruce :))
