    My Tibetan Center trip:

    Zen Arado: Hi Arch :)
    Archmage Atlantis: Hi, Zen :)
Zen Arado: haven't seen you for a while
Archmage Atlantis: True, I haven't been around much........personal situations and obligtations in rl have had me occupied.
Archmage Atlantis: How have you been?
    Zen Arado: ok
Zen Arado: I was at a Tibetan Buddhist temple at the weekend
Archmage Atlantis: That sounds like a good thing.....I hope you found it peaceful and energizing
    Zen Arado: http://www.samyeling.org/
Zen Arado: it was arduous for me
Archmage Atlantis: Our whatever you were seeking, of course
Zen Arado: the physical difficulties are getting too great for me
Archmage Atlantis: My, arduous.....not what I would have expected
    Archmage Atlantis: Ah
    Archmage Atlantis: I understand
Archmage Atlantis: Not designed for folks like us with difficulty in getting around? Or just the effort is getting to be a lot?
Zen Arado: there was a great techer there - a Tibetan Lama called Ringu Tulku
Zen Arado: yeh, not very accessible
Zen Arado: and I fond it difficult to sleep so I wa dozing off during the teacher's talk
    Archmage Atlantis: Smile :)
Archmage Atlantis: I doze off, even when I've had a good night's sleep
    Archmage Atlantis: Ah well
    Zen Arado: yeh
Zen Arado: the place is in Scotland
Zen Arado: it has been there since 1967
Archmage Atlantis: Payback for harassing my parents when I was younger, I suppose
Archmage Atlantis: Oh, so you went for quite a trip then
    Zen Arado: yes
Zen Arado: 2 hours on a ferry boat and a 100 mile drive
Zen Arado: I was there before about 3 years ago
Zen Arado: they meditate in 1 hour periods
    Zen Arado: quite long
Zen Arado: Tibetan style is very ornate
Zen Arado: if you scroll down to foot of page of link you can see video
Zen Arado: Zen style is more simple and austere
Zen Arado: I am going on a 6 day zen retreat next week
Archmage Atlantis: You have more stamina that I do :)
    Archmage Atlantis: *than
    Zen Arado: more stupidity maybe
    Zen Arado: :)
Archmage Atlantis: No......not stupidity.....we all seek as we are able and as we need
Zen Arado: it isn't seeking for me any more
Zen Arado: it is just resting in silence

Archmage Atlantis: I had an interesting conversation with a younger person, 21 he said, earlier in the night (night here.....I know it is day there).......he was so confident/certain of his beliefs in the ways of the world......
Zen Arado: he will get a rude shock one day :)
Archmage Atlantis: The more I know, the more I see I don't know
    Zen Arado: exactly
Archmage Atlantis: Yes, well....we all do in some fashion
    Zen Arado: true...they don't stop
Zen Arado: when we think ...ah...I've found it now....the rug gets pulled away again
    Archmage Atlantis: Smile :)........
Archmage Atlantis: I'll sort of getting used to that phenomena
    Archmage Atlantis: *I'm
Zen Arado: if we can just stay open to whatever might turn up
Archmage Atlantis: That is the best thing about PaB, I think, most everyone there tries to be open
    Zen Arado: yeh
Zen Arado: maybe the opening is what is most important
    Archmage Atlantis: Yes, good observation
Zen Arado: opening to what is without wanting it to stay like that or rejecting and pushing it away
    Archmage Atlantis: well said, Zen
Zen Arado: yeh but easy to say....
Archmage Atlantis: Not that easy to say, actually, and more difficult to believe, and even more difficult to live by
Zen Arado: I don't find it easy to believe
Zen Arado: or difficult to believe I mean
Zen Arado: I can see it in practice
Zen Arado: but old habits die hard
Archmage Atlantis: Does anyone with anyone with a modicum of ability to observe and think?
Zen Arado: we seem to prefer our nice safe delusions
Archmage Atlantis: And things are easier to see in others than in ourselves.
    Zen Arado: yes
Zen Arado: Ringu Tulku is such an unaffected man
Zen Arado: with simple direct teachings
    Zen Arado: http://www.bodhicharya.org/ringu-tulku/
Zen Arado: but you should see how they all genuflect before him when he enters the room

    Clinging to negativity:

Zen Arado: he said we should just let negative emotions pass through and not cling on to them
    Zen Arado: so simple
Zen Arado: funny how we are more inclined to be negative than positive
Zen Arado: it is a survival mechanism apparently
Archmage Atlantis: I will read the website about him.......one of the best books I read on buddhism was by Walpola Rahula from Ceylon
    Zen Arado: yeh
Zen Arado: What the Buddha taught?
Archmage Atlantis: Yes, it is very much a survival mechanism......what kills us, ends us......what doesn't kill us, we can learn from............and yes, What the Buddha taught is the book.
Zen Arado: a very clear book
    Archmage Atlantis: Yes
Zen Arado: it was more important to react negatively in order to stay alive in our didtant past
Zen Arado: but we still retain that mechanism when we don't have life and death threats any more
    Archmage Atlantis: True
    Zen Arado: well...not many
    Archmage Atlantis: Also true
Archmage Atlantis: but not many is still "some"
Zen Arado: one of our biggest problems is a tendency to beat ourselves up I think
Zen Arado: we are so self critical
Archmage Atlantis: And for children, when our minds are forming, there are many threats still....even with loving parents
Zen Arado: yeh but the negativity is an even greater threat maybe
Zen Arado: young people committing suicide for example
Archmage Atlantis: Someday, we or our descendants will move beyond that, or at least we can work toward that
Zen Arado: "There is no way we can go though the concepts and habitual tendencies with our mind, with out concepts and things like that. We have to go through that. The more we let ourselves be relaxed, at ease, spacious – I think these are the words. Relaxed, at ease: Not trying or intense – at ease. Spacious. It’s not restricting; it’s not putting pressure or putting under certain conditions. Spacious. It’s not in a room or a box. Limitless. Completely free. Not, ‘Is it right? Is it not right? It’s good. It’s not good.’ No constraints, no contriving. Just being."
    Zen Arado: Ringu Tulku
Archmage Atlantis: I need to go....I'm wearing out....ty for this time, Zen.......I will read the site for Ringu Tulku as I am able....Blessings and Namste, friend
Zen Arado: thanks for coming Arch
