Riddle Sideways: good morning again my good friend, Listener Master
                          --BELL--
    Riddle Sideways: hI Xiranna
    Riddle Sideways: /grass
    Riddle Sideways: Hi Storm
    Xirana Oximoxi: hi Storm:)
    Storm Nordwind: Hi there
    Storm Nordwind: channel 9 Riddle!
    Riddle Sideways: ty
Riddle Sideways: waiting for coffee to kick in
Riddle Sideways: how shall we sit today?
Storm Nordwind: What are our choices?
Riddle Sideways: mats, grass, little big
Xirana Oximoxi: why? we are not sitting right?
    Xirana Oximoxi: ah!:)
Riddle Sideways: so many choices now
Storm Nordwind: Thank you for asking, but you're the goc and it's your choice :)
    Riddle Sideways: there
        switched the pavillion to grass
    Storm Nordwind: Springtime. Nice.
Riddle Sideways: been thinking about topics
    Xirana Oximoxi: :)
    Storm Nordwind listens
    Xirana Oximoxi: and?
Riddle Sideways: actually been thinking that topics are not getting completed
Riddle Sideways: some great starts lately
    Storm Nordwind: That is true
Riddle Sideways: friendship yesterday was a good start
    Xirana Oximoxi: nice topic
Storm Nordwind: Though completable topics are perhaps less rich than open-ended ones
Riddle Sideways: some questions come up in logs
    Riddle Sideways: that are incompleted
Xirana Oximoxi: I agree... but as we meet so oft it's easy to follow the conversation:)
    Riddle Sideways: dangling threads
Xirana Oximoxi: maybe with more time to have thought about it too
Riddle Sideways: waiting for the weavers to come back to the project
Well that topic about topics goes nowhere :)
Xirana Oximoxi: sorry if I ask again..do you see what I write?
    Riddle Sideways: yes
    Storm Nordwind: Yes fine :)
    Xirana Oximoxi: brr ok
    Xirana Oximoxi: ty
Riddle Sideways: is that still happening?
Riddle Sideways wonder if there is some advanced setting
Xirana Oximoxi: yes! and I've tried with Phoenix and it happens the same... and I have an alt.. and with my alt it works ..sooo strange
Storm Nordwind: What does you Lag Meter tell you?
    Storm Nordwind: *your
Xirana Oximoxi: what is a 'Lag meter?
Storm Nordwind: Under Help on Viewer 1 and Phoenic (no idea about viewer 2) there is a Lag Meter
Storm Nordwind: It will tell you how things are with the server, your network and your client
Riddle Sideways: v2 under advanced->performance tools
Storm Nordwind: A kind of traffic light system, with more detailed explanations if you expand the pane
Xirana Oximoxi: don't worry..I will look at tit carefully..I don't want this to be the topic!!
    Storm Nordwind: haha OK!
Riddle Sideways: if it is cross-viewer but not on an alt it may be in "me"->preferences
Storm Nordwind: Though ideally you want "3 greens" on the meter
                          --BELL--
    Xirana Oximoxi: huh

Riddle Sideways: there are some reccurring images lately. One is a sign "THINK" at my dad's work place.
Riddle Sideways: mottivational slogans like that
Storm Nordwind remembers the sign "THIMK" from the 60s ;)
Riddle Sideways: word or phrase on a sign

Xirana Oximoxi: I've found the solution!!! I did 'mute myself!!!
    Riddle Sideways: ahhh good
    Xirana Oximoxi: now I'm ok:)))
Storm Nordwind: Didn't know you could do that!
Riddle Sideways: muting others is good, but not yourself
Xirana Oximoxi: I have no idea how ciuld I have done that!!! A friend has just told me
Riddle Sideways: however, being about to not hear yourself talk to yourself might be nice
    Xirana Oximoxi: hehe
Riddle Sideways: ok, need one of those RL settings options
    Xirana Oximoxi: yes!

Storm Nordwind: So... do motivational slogans have the desired effect? From my experience it's dependent on the prevailing culture.
Riddle Sideways: or subliminal suggests, do they work?
Riddle Sideways: prevailing culture of the 60's
Riddle Sideways: company management that had to put up "THINK" signs
Riddle Sideways: hmmmm, telling 'knowledge workers' to THINK
Storm Nordwind: I meant the national culture. For example, the British attitude to such things is overtly cynical, and such signs would dramatically lower the respect in which management was held.
Xirana Oximoxi: I think 'slogans' work.. if not they wouldn't spend so much money on it
Xirana Oximoxi: they have psichological effect on a lot of people
Storm Nordwind: The effect may not be the desired one though. They are often considered patronizing in Britain for example.
    Riddle Sideways: product slogan identification
Xirana Oximoxi: maybe British have another kind of slogans.. studied to get the effect on their personality
    Riddle Sideways: reverse suggestions
Storm Nordwind: In the worksplace, no. They are seen as simple-minded. In product advertising, they have to appeal to humor or sophistication - they have to be something that the Brits admire in some way - and that's very hard. By contrast in the US, slogans are easier to think up
Xirana Oximoxi: in Spain they are really silly and easy to think up:)
Riddle Sideways: so that now, walking the grocery aisle has slogans and advert songs coming out at you
Riddle Sideways: many times buy the generic so that advert does not come home
Storm Nordwind: That wouldn't work in the UK either. Brits vote with their feet and trade would suffer.
Xirana Oximoxi: with economical crise.. a lot of people buy in Supermarkets that sell generics
Xirana Oximoxi: so, the Firma is no more so important
Xirana Oximoxi: for a lot of people
                          --BELL--
Riddle Sideways: use to love the white/black labeled "Food", "Beer" cans several years ago
Storm Nordwind: In the UK, blatant, over-personal advertising is seen as crass, and people deliberately avoid it. And that attitude certainly makes for less cluttered, more pleasant shopping environments!
Xirana Oximoxi: it's not good to have a crise.... but sometimes a positiv consequence can be to be more aware of what is important
Xirana Oximoxi: it's not good for the Earth the rythm we have had last years of spending so much ..
Xirana Oximoxi: I usually have a Englis Chat with two japanese and we always notice differences in our way to see news, and other behaviours
Riddle Sideways: news and advert cultures do not cross borders well
Storm Nordwind: Educational techniques do not necessarily do so either
Riddle Sideways: wonder about when the sun never set on the brits era
Xirana Oximoxi: right! but we can talk about it and respect differences:)
Riddle Sideways: had TV and adverts been universal around the globe
    Xirana Oximoxi: sometimes not easy
Riddle Sideways: good to have differences
Xirana Oximoxi: yes! it's a way to enrich one each other:)
Riddle Sideways: of course you can hear BBC around the world
Xirana Oximoxi: and we have macDonalds everywhere in Spain:)

Storm Nordwind used to broadcast on the BBC
Xirana Oximoxi: oh! so interesting Storm!
    Riddle Sideways: what show?
    Riddle Sideways: [weather/storm report]
    Xirana Oximoxi: :))
Storm Nordwind: The are 3 levels of BBC radio coverage: international, national and local/regional. There are many of the latter. I used to broadcast on local radio - to about 120,000 people
Riddle Sideways: we use to have those local stations too
Xirana Oximoxi: wow... a lot of people!
Riddle Sideways: economy has put them out
Storm Nordwind: I did a few things. Storytelling was one. And I broadcast on "Thought for the Day" on BBC Radio Suffolk: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thought_for_the_day
Riddle Sideways: distinguished list of people
Storm Nordwind: I was one about once every 6 weeks IIRC
    Storm Nordwind: *on
    Riddle Sideways: 2min 45sec
Storm Nordwind: Not on Radio Suffolk. Read on to the bit I added about that!
    Storm Nordwind: 1:45

Xirana Oximoxi: 2 minutes? regoion restarts?
Storm Nordwind: No. Riddle is reading the article :)
Riddle Sideways: sorry, was reading wikipedia
Xirana Oximoxi: ahh hehe OK!! :)
Riddle Sideways: yes, am a little jumpy over region restarts tuesday
    Riddle Sideways: too
    Xirana Oximoxi: :)
Storm Nordwind says in sepulchral tone: "The region is restarting. Prepare to meet thy doom!"
    Riddle Sideways: :)
                          --BELL--
    Xirana Oximoxi: :)
Riddle Sideways: weird thought: you can subscribe to 'thought for the day' podcasts, store them up and get thoughts on days you did not have thoughts.
Riddle Sideways: or have all your thoughts on one day
    Storm Nordwind chuckles
Xirana Oximoxi: I'm sorry I must go!!! real storm here..I must desconnect modem and computer!! see you soon!!!!
    Storm Nordwind waves
Riddle Sideways: ok bye, and thanks

Riddle Sideways: was just thinking that the "THINK" sign is not that much diff from the PaB gong
Riddle Sideways: the gong is motivational moment, sign
Storm Nordwind: I see quite a big difference
Riddle Sideways: well yeah, but some simularities
Storm Nordwind: The sign tells you what to do. The bell invites you to choose what to do.
Riddle Sideways: over the years we read the sign and disregard
Riddle Sideways: do not even read it most times
Storm Nordwind: Perhaps it becomes a stale and atrophied monument to an old way of motivating
Riddle Sideways: yes, was thinking so
Storm Nordwind: Perhaps the people who first put it there didn't realize it was insulting
Riddle Sideways: they might have been just following orders to motivate us
Riddle Sideways: almost favorite bumper sticker, "Who are you to tell me to question authority"
    Storm Nordwind: hehe
Storm Nordwind: Quote from a favorite move: Brian:"You're all individuals..." Man in crowd:"I'm not!"
    Riddle Sideways: hehehe
Riddle Sideways: Brian, had such good stuff going on in the background
    Storm Nordwind: always, yes
Riddle Sideways: not as many memorized lines as holy grail did
Storm Nordwind: Ah... well tastes differ there :)
Riddle Sideways: we/US are less sophisicated
    Storm Nordwind chuckles
Riddle Sideways: hmmmm, bumper stickers.... are they like the 'THINK' signs?
Riddle Sideways: personalized 'join my club' etc.
                          --BELL--
Storm Nordwind: Like the THINK signs, they say more about the person who put it there than about the rest of the world, and doubtless have much the same lack of effect.
Riddle Sideways: what bumper stickers do you have?
Storm Nordwind: You mean metaphorically or actually on a car?
    Riddle Sideways: actually
    Storm Nordwind: None
    Riddle Sideways: was thinking that
    Riddle Sideways: :)
Riddle Sideways: for years had none
Riddle Sideways: few months ago was given a great one: "Live to Rock... Forced to Work"
Riddle Sideways: people come running up to ask where got it
    Storm Nordwind: haha
Storm Nordwind: I think the last time I had anything similar was not on a car but on a t-shirt in the 70s.
Storm Nordwind: I say it in a shop and laughed and my father bought it for me.
    Storm Nordwind: Very dated now,
Storm Nordwind: It read "You may not recognise me, but actually I am very famous and incredibly rich."
    Riddle Sideways: :)
Riddle Sideways: like that, but never seen it
Riddle Sideways: now have "Older then Dirt" t-shirt

Riddle Sideways: ok, so have just now realized that there are 4 words written on the corner of this office whiteboard
Riddle Sideways: been there for 2 years
    Riddle Sideways: another slogan
Riddle Sideways: right here in a personal space
    Riddle Sideways: oh dear
    Storm Nordwind: And?
Riddle Sideways: need to spend the day getting those erased off there
Riddle Sideways: probably put them somewhere else :)
    Storm Nordwind: :)
Storm Nordwind: They're in permanent marker?
Riddle Sideways: originally dry erase marker, but probably perminate now
Storm Nordwind: Either way, the technique for getting them off is the same

             AH!! it happened
Riddle Sideways: ah there is the message that was waiting for :))))
    Storm Nordwind: hehe!
    Riddle Sideways: region restart tuesday
Storm Nordwind: A slogan from the Lindens
    Riddle Sideways: 8:10
    Riddle Sideways: ok, my friend
Storm Nordwind: I guess it's a hint to part
Riddle Sideways: will see you soon
Storm Nordwind: Yup. Thanks for that
    Riddle Sideways: yes, thanks
