Wol Euler was guardian for this session.

    Wol Euler: boxy
    Alfred Kelberry: woly! :)
    Alfred Kelberry: mmm, cute :)
    Wol Euler: :)
    Alfred Kelberry: partly grey though
    Wol Euler: *rebakes*
Alfred Kelberry: how is woly this morning? rested, fed and sexy? :)
    Alfred Kelberry: yay! it worked
Alfred Kelberry: see the belly button now
Wol Euler: two and a half out of three :)
    Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: rest is a problem, jetlag.
Alfred Kelberry: yea, will take a week, i guess
Wol Euler: it usually does, going eastwards
Alfred Kelberry: so, nap time soon? :)
    Wol Euler: hehehe
Alfred Kelberry: been alone this session?
    Wol Euler: yep
Wol Euler: well, I was a quarter hour late
Wol Euler: slept past the alarm
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Alfred Kelberry: reminds me of someone in berlin :)
    Wol Euler: heheh
    Alfred Kelberry: jetlag syndrome
Alfred Kelberry: i'm off to a museum today
    Wol Euler: yay
    Wol Euler: which one?
Alfred Kelberry: not sure yet :)
Wol Euler: ah, so it's a general ambition
    Alfred Kelberry: friends invited me
Wol Euler: not a specific plan
Wol Euler: oh I see :)
Alfred Kelberry: something artsy, i presume
    Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: force yourself to have fun
Alfred Kelberry: no force, just joy and experience :)
Alfred Kelberry: there's also lunch scheduled which can compenate for any possible forceful events :)
    Wol Euler: lunch is good
    Alfred Kelberry: seen moneyball?
Wol Euler: sounds like a James Bond fanfic
    Wol Euler: i.e. no

    --BELL--

Alfred Kelberry: baseball, billy beane played by brad pitt
Alfred Kelberry: i want to see tintin
    Wol Euler smiles.
Alfred Kelberry: really enjoyed the comics when i was a kid
    Alfred Kelberry: adventures!
Wol Euler: yeah, me too; when I was in my twenties and thirties too
    Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: I collected them in French
    Alfred Kelberry: fancy :)
    Wol Euler: original :)
Alfred Kelberry: you have a special shelf dedicated to tintin? :)
Wol Euler: I don't have them here, alas; they are hopefully still in boxes in an attic in East London
Alfred Kelberry: oh, you still have a place there?
Wol Euler: no, a friend's attic
    Alfred Kelberry: ah
Wol Euler: I left a lot of stuff there when I moved to Germany
Alfred Kelberry: a major dropping? :)
    Wol Euler: mmhmm
Alfred Kelberry: do you miss any of the stuff you left behind?
Wol Euler: I was just thinking that :)
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Wol Euler: very little of it. A few specific things only
    Alfred Kelberry: not bad :
Wol Euler: that#s probably true of most of what surrounds me right now too
Alfred Kelberry: i think holding an original book of tintin adventures in french would be nice though :)
Wol Euler: oh, I didn't mean that they were old; just that they were written in French and I likd that better than the english translations
Wol Euler: I do miss them.
Alfred Kelberry: bring them to germany! :)
Alfred Kelberry: and yes, agree on translation losing the spirit
Alfred Kelberry: can't say much about french though, but i think it's universal
Alfred Kelberry: movies translations are the worse, i think
Wol Euler: mmhmm, so much gets lost
Alfred Kelberry: i always opt for the original, even if i don't speak the language, with subtitles
    Wol Euler: agreed!
Alfred Kelberry: then at least you can get the tone of voices, original sound
Alfred Kelberry: do they try to localize the jokes in german translations?
Wol Euler: depends; sometimes yes, and it's usually somewhat uncomfortable
    Alfred Kelberry: yea :)

    --BELL--

    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Wol Euler: my first experience of German was watching the films of Wim Wenders and Werner Herzog with subtitles
Wol Euler: that gave me a flavour of the language before I began to learn it
Wol Euler: also Tarkovsky in Russian with subtitles
    Wol Euler: (loved Tarkovsky)
    Alfred Kelberry: neat
    Alfred Kelberry: he's... different :)
    Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: what do Russians think of him? We see him as one of the great geniuses of storytelling
    Alfred Kelberry: same thing :)
    Wol Euler: good :)
Alfred Kelberry: quite a cult figure
    Wol Euler: mmhmm
    Wol Euler: "sacrifice"
    Wol Euler remembers and shivers

    Pause.

Alfred Kelberry: reading his wiki page :)
Wol Euler: I guessed it would be something like that
Alfred Kelberry: interesting, he wrote: when i was young, i got invovled in a bad company. had a very difficult moment. my mom helped me in an unsual way - she sent me with a geology expidition. i was a collector in taiga, siberia. basically, a mere worker. and these are the happiest memories of my life :)
    Wol Euler smiles
Alfred Kelberry: 20s - a really special time
Wol Euler: yeah, in many ways.
Wol Euler: the golden age before the great crash
Alfred Kelberry: i wonder if it's possible to relive it say in the 40s?
    Alfred Kelberry: hehe
Wol Euler: oh, do you mean 1920 or when one was 20 years old?
Alfred Kelberry: ah, no, years old :)
    Wol Euler: heh
Alfred Kelberry: yet, your last comment still stands :)
Wol Euler: reliving? possibly, I guess, if you recreate the conditions
Wol Euler: you could move to a new city, take up a different job, get new friends
Wol Euler: which people typically do when they start university, or finish
    Alfred Kelberry: hmm
    Alfred Kelberry: yea

    --BELL--

Alfred Kelberry: but you never feel that the 20s are so nice when you're actually 20 :)
    Wol Euler: heh
Wol Euler: I think I did know that I was having a good time, a lucky and privileged time, when I was that age
Wol Euler: but it is easy to lose sight of what's around you
Wol Euler points to "awareness" and "appreciation" :)
Alfred Kelberry: i think you're lucky and privileged now too :)
Wol Euler: my point :) heheheheh
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Alfred Kelberry: i really look forward to the next meetup
    Wol Euler: me too
    Wol Euler: phone
Alfred Kelberry: btw, alps not too far from venice
Alfred Kelberry: say hi to an anonymous caller :)
    Wol Euler: too late :)
    Alfred Kelberry: eek
Wol Euler: alps are good, venice is good too
Alfred Kelberry: i mean, we could take a day trip up in the mountains
    Wol Euler: aaaah
Wol Euler: that would mean a longer meetup then
    Alfred Kelberry: yep
Wol Euler: because it is sacrilege to go to venice for a weekend and not spend the weekend there.
Alfred Kelberry: let's make it 4 days :)
    Wol Euler: sounds good
Alfred Kelberry: i'll come for no less than a week anyway :)
Alfred Kelberry: no way you can escape :P
Wol Euler: so you'll organize that? great
Wol Euler: I have a marvellous place to stay there
Wol Euler: a woman who rents out apartments in a restored 16th century palazzo between Rialto and San Marco
Wol Euler: it's not cheap, but it is cheaper than a week in a hotel, because you can cook for yourselves there

    --BELL--

Alfred Kelberry: ah, you're a venice regular :)
Alfred Kelberry: 2-3 people per room?
Wol Euler: not as regular as I'd like to be, haven't been in years
    Wol Euler: 2 at most
Wol Euler: but some apts have 2 or 3 bedrooms
Alfred Kelberry: could use those :)
Wol Euler: no, there is a 3er too
Wol Euler: have to book pretty far in avdvance though, to be sure of getting everyone in
Wol Euler: so better start right now organizing for Spring
    Alfred Kelberry: :/
Alfred Kelberry: i'm not sure about the dates yet
Alfred Kelberry: off season would be best though. less tourists and it's cheaper too :)
    Wol Euler: definitely
Wol Euler: venice in summer is also too hot and sticky
Alfred Kelberry: iceland is good for summer
    Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: I always wanted to go there!
    Alfred Kelberry: wee!
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Alfred Kelberry: well, if the spring falls through, we can try iceland :)
    Wol Euler: done
Alfred Kelberry: then stay there for a month waiting for some jeergblidjfj volcano to settle down :)
    Wol Euler: heheheh
    Wol Euler: true

    --BELL--

    Alfred Kelberry: :
    Alfred Kelberry: woly girl :)
    Wol Euler grins.
    Alfred Kelberry: time to scoot
    Wol Euler: me too
Wol Euler: nice to see you, boxy dear
Alfred Kelberry: nice catching you here
    Alfred Kelberry: scoot well
    Alfred Kelberry: wuff!
    Wol Euler: heheh
    Wol Euler: bye!
