Aphrodite Macbain: Wonder where our host is
    Lucinda Lavender: not sure
    Aphrodite Macbain: How are you?
Lucinda Lavender: ok! except getting a cold
    Aphrodite Macbain: bummer
    Lucinda Lavender: shall we claim?
    Aphrodite Macbain: may as well
    Lucinda Lavender: How are you?
Aphrodite Macbain: or wait a few more minutes
    Lucinda Lavender: lets wait...
    Aphrodite Macbain: k
Aphrodite Macbain: He's nsot on line. Hope he's OK
Lucinda Lavender: anything new or exciting or mundane?
Aphrodite Macbain: a bit of both.
Aphrodite Macbain: The thing that's proccupying me most I can't really discuss
    Lucinda Lavender: ok
Aphrodite Macbain: soooo, I am also wondering what quote to use for the banner project
    Lucinda Lavender: good wondering
Aphrodite Macbain: was hoping Boxy'as red ribbon would help me
Lucinda Lavender: saw directions about it but am forgetting how
Lucinda Lavender: head feels too full
Aphrodite Macbain: aww. got any deconjestants?
Aphrodite Macbain: will check my eamil
Lucinda Lavender: not really needing them yet...
    Aphrodite Macbain: Here comes Cal
Lucinda Lavender: spend the day with taxes and that is why head is full I suppose
    Aphrodite Macbain: taxes? So early?
Aphrodite Macbain: when are they due?
Lucinda Lavender: well next month we need to be ready to travel
    Lucinda Lavender: mid month
Lucinda Lavender: do you have tax time too?
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hye Cal
    Lucinda Lavender: Hi Cal
Aphrodite Macbain: not till April 1
    Lucinda Lavender: ah

Lucinda Lavender: I have a lot of lag
Aphrodite Macbain: glad u made it cal, we were going to send out a search party
Calvino Rabeni: Thanks for the out-of-world reminder message to get me here
Lucinda Lavender: Good Day Cal:) happy to
Aphrodite Macbain: u mean a phone call?
    Calvino Rabeni: Yes
Calvino Rabeni: Slightly embarrassed - it rarely happens, but I got involved in a very interesting phone call with a friend and wasn't watching the time at all!
Aphrodite Macbain: glad it was interesting.
Aphrodite Macbain: How have you been Cal?
Calvino Rabeni: Okay, thanks ... I've been cat sitting but it's almost over
Aphrodite Macbain: Your mum back soon?
    Calvino Rabeni: Hopefully tonight
Aphrodite Macbain: Have you heard from her?
    Calvino Rabeni: No
Lucinda Lavender: / 12 log playful
Aphrodite Macbain: She will be all tanned and relaxed and will make you a mojito
Lucinda Lavender: Luci learns to use the ribbon
    Lucinda Lavender: or not
Aphrodite Macbain: It doen't give me a quote
    Aphrodite Macbain: mojito
Aphrodite Macbain: how did you do tht?
Calvino Rabeni: It's always interesting how individualised cats become .. each one has a personality and some talents and abilities that others do not
Aphrodite Macbain: nods. I know there are millions of cats in the world and each of them are different
    Aphrodite Macbain: like people
Aphrodite Macbain: Luci how did you get that log thing
Lucinda Lavender: have you found that you have a cat that likes to urge you outside with it..to see the yard? mine does this
Aphrodite Macbain: I dont have a yard. But she tries to urge me out into the corridor and up to the roof, only to discover its windy or rainy
Lucinda Lavender: they like a companion...or wish to show off their skill at being a queen of the yard
    Aphrodite Macbain: yay
Aphrodite Macbain: It gave me the log but not the quote from it
Aphrodite Macbain: it's like the cats are trying to herd you
Lucinda Lavender: I feel herded by sylvie the cat yes
Calvino Rabeni: The stories we tell ..
Calvino Rabeni: I mean the bigger enclosing stories
Calvino Rabeni: by which we interpret the meaning of what happens with the cats
    Calvino Rabeni: (or people)
Lucinda Lavender: same experience Aph...just get the whole log
    Lucinda Lavender: ah...here comes Paradise...
    Lucinda Lavender: hello Para
Aphrodite Macbain: what bigger enclosing story Cal - in this case?
Calvino Rabeni: The enclosing stories alre like metaphors, except that we live inside them instead of the other way around
    Aphrodite Macbain: smiles
    Calvino Rabeni: Hi Para :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Paradise
Lucinda Lavender: we sit there inside the idea of cats herding us?
Paradise Tennant: smiles and waves all round and listens
Paradise Tennant: hiya luci aph cal :))
    Lucinda Lavender: :))
Aphrodite Macbain: Is an enclosing story a back story?
Calvino Rabeni: I think that I'd regard the story of cats and herding as a kind of dream around Cinda that I'm aware of on the side
Calvino Rabeni: yes and enclosing back story

Lucinda Lavender: when a cat looks up at you and plaintively goes to wait at the door but waits for me to go out I feel herded:)
Aphrodite Macbain whispers "another word might be manipulated"
    Lucinda Lavender: you, me="one"
    Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
Calvino Rabeni: I noticed my own back stories about the cats changing as a consequence of my recent studies
Calvino Rabeni: about those enclosing stories
Calvino Rabeni: specifically the shift in our cultural background from individualism to more of an understanding of field intelligence
    Lucinda Lavender: say more!
Aphrodite Macbain: There is something so moving and powerful about an animal looking at you and trying to communicate.
    Aphrodite Macbain: Listens
    Aphrodite Macbain: field intelligence?
    Aphrodite Macbain: group think?
Calvino Rabeni: And also seeing the different layers of intelligence involved in everyday things
Aphrodite Macbain: nods. Thats why I love to do botanical illustration - it allows me to look deeply
Calvino Rabeni: For example the cat wants to go outside
Calvino Rabeni: actually they don't unless they see that I am interested in it ..
Calvino Rabeni: they are tracking or aware of me
Calvino Rabeni: so if they see I might want to have a petting session they don't want to go out
Calvino Rabeni: but if I'm headed for the door they notice and run along in advance
Calvino Rabeni: because they've figured out the movement of the field that includes me
Lucinda Lavender: but waits for me to go first
Aphrodite Macbain: yes- they are very intrested and influenced by what is happening around them
Aphrodite Macbain: when I head for the door they wait to get treats
Aphrodite Macbain: They are always happy when I leave
Calvino Rabeni: then I open the door
Calvino Rabeni: they look out ... carefully, around, scanning the environment
Calvino Rabeni: this way and that, and also glancing back at me, looking at my eyes too
Calvino Rabeni: to be part of my intelligence too
Lucinda Lavender: feels like they want to go out together
Aphrodite Macbain: It is like we are singing a conversational fugue
    Lucinda Lavender: yes
    Lucinda Lavender: joined...
    Lucinda Lavender: deeper perhaps
Calvino Rabeni: when they see, that I see, that it is safe, they look around more
Calvino Rabeni: and change their seeing, now they are interested in things like birds
Aphrodite Macbain: only trusting their senses
Calvino Rabeni: clearly they put trust in their humans
    Lucinda Lavender: nodding
Aphrodite Macbain: they know who feeds them
Calvino Rabeni: so I feel the responsibility because I've been part of their assessment of the field around them
Aphrodite Macbain: and you must conform to their expectations?
Calvino Rabeni: it's more intelligent than the older stories
Calvino Rabeni: in which they are sort of automatons that seek food
Lucinda Lavender: working together...perhaps why they were called familiars?
Aphrodite Macbain: part of our family
Lucinda Lavender: interesting...did not think of that aph
Calvino Rabeni: yes it is like that, a family intelligence
Aphrodite Macbain: I find it endearing how the two cats follow me as I move from room to room and settle down when I settle down
Lucinda Lavender: have you heard of the books about cats painting or dancing with humans
    Aphrodite Macbain: omg
Calvino Rabeni: there are 2 of them also, so I can notice how what they do depends on their sister in addition to depending on me
    Aphrodite Macbain: nods
    Lucinda Lavender: same here
Aphrodite Macbain: I would like to find a book on cat behaviour.
Lucinda Lavender: they are so lovely
Aphrodite Macbain: My Smudge yowls at the same time every day and tears around the house. Then stops and goes to sleep
Lucinda Lavender: cats and the books about them
Aphrodite Macbain: Same time each day
Calvino Rabeni: If the book were to include insights about how their intelligence works in the group
Calvino Rabeni: that would make it really interesting
Aphrodite Macbain: nods. Does two make a group?
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, so does one
Aphrodite Macbain: [paradise, dogs are so much more transparent, aren't they?
Aphrodite Macbain: Ahh anothr cat person!
Calvino Rabeni: because we envelop avatars of others we know
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hi San
    Santoshima Resident: greetings feline lovers
    Calvino Rabeni: Greetings Santo
    Aphrodite Macbain: meeow
    Lucinda Lavender: :) HI San
Calvino Rabeni: How are / were your travels?
Paradise Tennant: hiya san welcome back :))) hope the trip was wonderful
Santoshima Resident: you all appear as clouds atm
Santoshima Resident: travels were good, glad to be home
Aphrodite Macbain: wipes the cobwebs from her face
Santoshima Resident: how is everyone? sorry to interrupt ...
Paradise Tennant: no worries I have to go actually I am being called to help celebrate a very important birthday :))
Paradise Tennant: will look forward to read the log :)
Aphrodite Macbain: we were going on about cats in groups
Santoshima Resident: enjoy, bye Paradise ~
    Calvino Rabeni: Bye :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: ah. Whose?
Paradise Tennant: smiles thank you :)) will do :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: yours Para?
Aphrodite Macbain: Did your cat miss you when you were away San?

Santoshima Resident: I doubt it, but he's quite affectionate since I'm back, it's very lovely / cat groups? groups of cats?
Lucinda Lavender: must go as dinner is ready...sweet dreams all.
    Aphrodite Macbain: cat think
Aphrodite Macbain: do cats herd humans?
    Santoshima Resident: bye Lucinda, meow
Aphrodite Macbain: are we easier to herd than cats?
    Lucinda Lavender: meow to all...
    Aphrodite Macbain: Bye
    Aphrodite Macbain: Bye! Luci
Aphrodite Macbain: funny how the screen bounces up and down as you type San
    Calvino Rabeni: Take care :)
Santoshima Resident: cats maneuver humans with their brain waves, and fluid communications
Santoshima Resident: really, your screen bounces?
Aphrodite Macbain: yes. I feel a little nasseous!
    Santoshima Resident: oh
    Aphrodite Macbain: naseous
    Aphrodite Macbain: nautious?
Santoshima Resident: uh oh, i'll go
    Aphrodite Macbain: grins
    Aphrodite Macbain: oops
    Aphrodite Macbain: she went!!
Calvino Rabeni: Different perspectives are mixing together as never before in history
Calvino Rabeni: Seeking to create the stories around them as they do so
Aphrodite Macbain: My interest bubble is always how the brain works and how biology works with psychology
    Calvino Rabeni: that is interesting
Aphrodite Macbain: and whether psychology and buddhism can work together - one with the ego and the other ego-less
Aphrodite Macbain: i am finding that alot of my interests are colliding.
Aphrodite Macbain: It's a challenge to see how one science or philosophy can align with another Aphrodite Macbain: or compete with it
Calvino Rabeni: colliding or colluding... that is the question
    Aphrodite Macbain: He he
Aphrodite Macbain: Interesting concept: collusion of concepts
Aphrodite Macbain: It sounds like they are acting on their own despite us!
Calvino Rabeni: The overall coherence of the story is always partial, dynamic, dream like
Aphrodite Macbain: what is it that is created when electrons collide? Protons and neutrons?
Calvino Rabeni: as I think the buddhist philosophers pointed out, always a whole web of causes and a whole web of effects
Aphrodite Macbain: one cannot speak about a single cause in Buddhism?
    Calvino Rabeni: No

Aphrodite Macbain: No you're right. Nothing is ever simple. Time for me to spiral out of here, see you tomorrow Cal. and Thank you
Calvino Rabeni: Good night, take care :)
Calvino Rabeni: I'm reluctant to pick a single statement out of a millenia long world perspective
Calvino Rabeni: "what Buddhism believes" as if there were a single entity or consistent system to it, one with uni-vocal identity
Calvino Rabeni: I'm interested in frameworks and meta-narratives
Calvino Rabeni: (which aren't the same thing, generally)
Calvino Rabeni: A scholarly period in buddhism created many compendia, cliff's notes systematizations
Calvino Rabeni: I find this one interesting http://www.amazon.com/dp/9552401038/
Calvino Rabeni: (A Comprehensive Manual of Abhidhamma)
Calvino Rabeni: Though it's more a syllabus than an introduction, something for the already-involved and already-enculturated
Calvino Rabeni: Not having that background it takes a certain mental "bent" to make sense of it
Calvino Rabeni: According to one western scholar, "Seven valleys of dry bones"
Calvino Rabeni: (which actually seems like a nicely suggestive metaphor)
Calvino Rabeni: Where the flesh on those bones would be the practitioners, students, scholars, monks and nuns
