The Guardian for this meeting was Calvino Rabeni. The comments are by Calvino Rabeni.

    stevenaia Michinaga: hi Cal
    Calvino Rabeni: Hi Stevenaia !
Calvino Rabeni: What's new and/or the same?
stevenaia Michinaga: I've been spending time with Storm's Metta-karuna meditations recently, and have some interesting observations about it (to me)
stevenaia Michinaga: although I don;t feel the eventual depth I belive it will take me
    Calvino Rabeni: care to share?
stevenaia Michinaga: I feel certain aspect strike me as easier to feel compassion than others... and unexpectedly, it is the "dificult people" I feel compassionate toward more deeply
stevenaia Michinaga: not that I have less compassion for those close, but perhaps becoase they are close it is harder do feel it more deeply
stevenaia Michinaga: like time will have an affect in the depth
    stevenaia Michinaga: (am hoping)
stevenaia Michinaga: not sure how much sence that makes
Calvino Rabeni: nods .. it makes sense
stevenaia Michinaga: wishing" joy and ease" to someone who so desparetly needs it is easier than someone close who I may know much better
stevenaia Michinaga: that caught me offguard
Calvino Rabeni: the desperation might be part of the reason?

stevenaia Michinaga: perhaps it's easier for me to wish someone well who may be a dificult person that it is for me to do so to someone I am more familiar with who I know has qualities of joyfulness
stevenaia Michinaga: Nice when the unexpected presents itself now and then
stevenaia Michinaga: seem to offer youself time to spend with new questions
stevenaia Michinaga: being relatively new to any formal meditation, it seems like a nice thoughtful path
Calvino Rabeni: yes, unexpected, new, and perhaps, seasoned with a touch of difficulty for flavor
stevenaia Michinaga: just as letting go resulting in empyness is something I needed to work to find that place of comfort and emptyness
stevenaia Michinaga: you never quite know how to get somewhere until you walk the path
    stevenaia Michinaga: hi paradise
stevenaia Michinaga: like reading about painting vs painting
Calvino Rabeni: that's true ... when the walking is what creates the path
Calvino Rabeni: the path is the walking
Paradise Tennant: smiles hiya stev cal :) waves and listens
stevenaia Michinaga: nods, the map is not the path, I heard that somewhere
Calvino Rabeni: Good evening Paradise :)
stevenaia Michinaga: just as the guided meditation is just the map
Calvino Rabeni: That saying comes from Korzybski
    Calvino Rabeni: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Map%E2%80%93territory_relation
Calvino Rabeni: I think it's true about representations
Calvino Rabeni: on the other hand there could be areas of life where the map IS the territory
    Calvino Rabeni: Good evening, Sam
    Paradise Tennant: hiya sam
oO0Oo Resident: Hi Cal, Para, Stev :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: hi Samúð
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
Calvino Rabeni: It reminds me of a joke by comedian Steven Wright ...
Calvino Rabeni: "I'm so excited, I got a scale map of the United States
Calvino Rabeni: It's actual size !
Calvino Rabeni: Going to spend the summer unfolding it.

Paradise Tennant: thinks of all the walks I do four a day usually :)
Paradise Tennant: lots of path in my life :)
Calvino Rabeni: That's admirable ... I hope a part of me will take it as an aspiration
Calvino Rabeni: (working now on making it 2 per day)
Calvino Rabeni: Unless you count a walking meditation around the apartment
Paradise Tennant: a dog would help you there :)
stevenaia Michinaga: looking forward to warm weather walks, ther eis a park 10 blocks away with a rose garden, perfect of a tai chi interlude and to smell the many roses before returning
Paradise Tennant: yes and I like june and the lilacs :) we have a park with a grove of lilac bushes near by :)
Calvino Rabeni: The roses are a helpful element
stevenaia Michinaga: and one way is exactly the length of In-a-Godda-Divida that I put on my pod via a vinyl copy, keeps the walking pased
Paradise Tennant: actually may :) is when lilacs mostly bloom here unless it is a chilly spring
stevenaia Michinaga: <-- not a fan of llilacs, although other differ, as some are growing out back
Paradise Tennant: tulips are out now :) nice to enjoy the available :))
oO0Oo Resident thinks of CSNY song..
Paradise Tennant: and lots of daffodils
Calvino Rabeni: lots and lots of daffodils
Paradise Tennant: like daffodils they generate more daffodils smart little flowers :)
Calvino Rabeni: it's not unusual I suppose, but I only just discovered the tulips open to receive the sun and then close in the evening
    oO0Oo Resident: slightly narcissistic though
    Paradise Tennant: lol
    Paradise Tennant: ohhhh
stevenaia Michinaga: ponders which CSNY song
oO0Oo Resident: Stephen Stills technically: http://is.gd/vPEdY6

Calvino Rabeni: Here's a photo of the ground beneath the plum tree from which came the plums used to create the wine made by the husband of one of the guardians of the house of PaB
oO0Oo Resident: near the house that Jack built?
Calvino Rabeni: yes, same neighborhood in fact!
    oO0Oo Resident: ;)
    Paradise Tennant: smiles wow :)
    Paradise Tennant: beautiful :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: is that now?
Calvino Rabeni: The wine is good too
    Calvino Rabeni: photo from yesterday
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Paradise Tennant: ;) such a show of colour
    Calvino Rabeni: wine from 2010
Paradise Tennant: bet you can taste a bit of the flowers in it :) wine is such a complex living thing
Calvino Rabeni: Yes I imagine the taste IS in there .. a very bright flavor
Paradise Tennant: often am amazed at how things morph I sip lavender tea and the lavender becomes me :)
Calvino Rabeni: snap, as they say
oO0Oo Resident: Maybe one of the few things that routinely accepts its roots and interconnections in its descriptions.. wine.. Ah.. now lavender WE
Calvino Rabeni: I was thinking just then of tea as a metaphor of meditation
Calvino Rabeni: and then wondering if it might lead to stronger drinks :)
stevenaia Michinaga: a gateway ....awww meditation
Paradise Tennant: smiles scotch too .. very complex meld of tastes and sources peat soil
    Calvino Rabeni: hehe

    stevenaia Michinaga: night all
Calvino Rabeni: Good night, Stevenaia :)
oO0Oo Resident: Night Stevnaia.. Pleasant dreams.
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: thx
Paradise Tennant: in a way everything as buddism points out is born of union there is nothing really distinct we are all a mix :)
Calvino Rabeni: yes, and what a mix :)
Calvino Rabeni: "oklahoma city looks mighty pretty"
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
Calvino Rabeni: This path that went through Time, Space and Knowledge and wound through the PaB village has also headed into the world garden
    Calvino Rabeni: http://www.dharmapublishing.com/products/seeing-the-beauty-of-being
    oO0Oo Resident: :)
Paradise Tennant: smiles noticed he teaches a program on skillful means
    Calvino Rabeni: Yes
Calvino Rabeni: Here's a nice quote from that page

While we share a commonality with others, each of us has a unique life story that continues to unfold, forged from hopes and dreams, actions and interactions. The ability to learn from our experience throughout our lives is also the gift of knowledge.

    Paradise Tennant:

Skillful Means is a body of knowledge that you can uniquely incorporate into your daily life. It is not a set of techniques to add to your arsenal of behavioral patterns, but a teaching on how to let wisdom inform your actions

Paradise Tennant: very tricky in some situations letting wisdom inform your actions but .. pausing I guess is the start :)
Calvino Rabeni: It's interesting that the path led through discipline and knowledge towards beauty
Calvino Rabeni: pausing yes the start
Calvino Rabeni: the start of every journey begins with .. pausing
    Calvino Rabeni: hmm
    Calvino Rabeni:

Nature is not just our provider and supporter, but also is the medium through which energy and blessings of a higher order flow into our cosmos. If we allow the reality of these blessings to touch us, if we begin to realize we are not alone, a sense of gratitude and curiosity awaken and we wish to learn about the larger cosmos we inhabit.

    Paradise Tennant: smiles
Paradise Tennant: I get that ;)
Calvino Rabeni: Looking at these statements as having come from the same individual over time ... perhaps a developmental story in it
    Calvino Rabeni:

Within each flower, within each seed, lies an unbounded field of energy. When we breathe in the air around them, a sacred life and energy is communicated to us. What is their message?

Calvino Rabeni: these are from "daily dharma" page at http://www.dharmapublishing.com/blogs/daily-dharma/tagged/garland-of-flowers
Paradise Tennant: sacred unbounded energy :)
Paradise Tennant: like the sound of that
Paradise Tennant: like the idea of being part of it even better letting it flow through
Calvino Rabeni: life flows through us as us
Paradise Tennant: nods and if we open to it .. truly and completely it is a smooth flow ..) running as it should :)
Calvino Rabeni: speaking of the "inner life", I had this drink called lassi, a yogurt like drink served in Indian restaurants
Calvino Rabeni: and I saw it sold in an international supermarket
Paradise Tennant: smiles like the mango ones
Calvino Rabeni: so I tried it, not bad yes especially the mango
Paradise Tennant: but avocado is good too!
Calvino Rabeni: and, I noticed the label
Calvino Rabeni: 15 billion "cultures" in every serving
Paradise Tennant: that is a lot of cultures
Calvino Rabeni: thinking ... now there's more of not-me in me than me :)
Calvino Rabeni: anyway I found, after the carton was nearly finished
Calvino Rabeni: I just filled it up with new fresh milk and let it sit on the table for a day
Calvino Rabeni: and ... it regenerated in as good quality as the first :)
Calvino Rabeni: so there's now an endless Lassi carton
    Paradise Tennant: smiles rebirth
Calvino Rabeni: :) yes at a modest price
Paradise Tennant: like a sour dough starter can go for years
    Santoshima Resident: sam left?
Calvino Rabeni: and it occurred to me as a
    Calvino Rabeni: crashed maybe, suddenly
    Paradise Tennant: hiya san
    Santoshima Resident: hi
    Calvino Rabeni: Santo :)
Calvino Rabeni: It seemed like another meditation metaphor ... just add fresh milk and wait ... it regenerates
    Paradise Tennant: yes
Paradise Tennant: when we open our eyes there are endless metaphors for the path
    Calvino Rabeni: nods
Paradise Tennant: well I think I should take my four legged metaphor in hand and do the last walk of the night

Calvino Rabeni: nods, I see a picture across the way of some people standing on what appears to be a giant pizza
    Paradise Tennant: wb sam :)
Paradise Tennant: we are toppings :))
    Calvino Rabeni: heh yes
    oO0Oo Resident: ty
    oO0Oo Resident: http://is.gd/Yadc8I
    Calvino Rabeni: thanks Samuo
Paradise Tennant: smiles and waves at everyone sleepily :)))
Calvino Rabeni: Say arf to einstein :) bye
    oO0Oo Resident begins trundling
    Santoshima Resident: bye Paradise ~
    oO0Oo Resident: lavendertrundles.. and dreams
Paradise Tennant: lol will have to wake him up he is snoring ;))
    oO0Oo Resident: marriage of fountains
Calvino Rabeni: The outdoor scenes are nostalgic ... I sense a Northern California road trip in my near future
oO0Oo Resident: threads of Ratna.. with equanimity.. and Tarthang Tulku seeds..
    Calvino Rabeni:

As we see for ourselves the power that comes from really focusing the mind, we resolve to treat our awareness with the care it deserves.

Meditation is a way of opening our lives to the richness of experience, not an esoteric practice limited to certain times and places. Wherever we live, meditation can actually become a way of life. In this kind of meditation, we learn from whatever we experience.

Calvino Rabeni: Quotes from "Openness Mind" http://www.dharmapublishing.com/products/openness-mind

Calvino Rabeni: (1978, you can get it used for $0.01 plus shipping)
Calvino Rabeni: But it's worth much more than that
Calvino Rabeni: just add fresh milk, put it in a warm place, and wait
    oO0Oo Resident: :)
oO0Oo Resident: "The fullness of our being, luminous and free, reveals itself through visualization and dream yoga practices. A mirror-like equanimity arises; all things, inner and outer, dance with a new sense of harmony and light."
    oO0Oo Resident: http://is.gd/juruXu
oO0Oo Resident: OK.. that's me.. I'll say farewell for now. :)
    oO0Oo Resident: 〜waves〜
    oO0Oo Resident: ☻/
    oO0Oo Resident: /▌
    oO0Oo Resident: / \
    Santoshima Resident: farewell ~ night
    Calvino Rabeni: Bye Sam
Santoshima Resident: might i ask about the ratna ling retreat centre ... how it came to be talked about?
Calvino Rabeni: I'm not entirely sure
Calvino Rabeni: one explanation is I cited a book published by the publisher earlier:
This path that went through Time, Space and Knowledge and wound through the PaB village has also headed into the world garden http://www.dharmapublishing.com/products/seeing-the-beauty-of-being
Santoshima Resident: oh, that looks very good
Calvino Rabeni: I'm not sure what was going on in the others who picked the theme up
    Santoshima Resident: i see
Calvino Rabeni: but it started I think with noticing the beauty of the spring that's happening now
    Santoshima Resident: hmm
Calvino Rabeni: I'd posted a photo link
    Santoshima Resident: oh
    Santoshima Resident: really lovely
    Calvino Rabeni: :)

It's a clear spring night.  In the eastern sky, Mars is high and bright.
