The Guardian for this meeting was Calvino Rabeni. The comments are by Calvino Rabeni.

    druth Vlodovic: hi cal
    Calvino Rabeni: Hi druth
Calvino Rabeni: How are things tonight?
    druth Vlodovic: ok
    druth Vlodovic: quiet
    druth Vlodovic: you?
Calvino Rabeni: sleepy. I'm not yet used to it being dark at this time of day - it changes so fast at this time of year
druth Vlodovic: all this travel :)
druth Vlodovic: change is supposed to energize the mind and clear the body
druth Vlodovic: sry, trying to read the guardian session
Calvino Rabeni: where do I lodge a complaint :)
druth Vlodovic: more calls for revival lol
druth Vlodovic: no doubt it's just catching your breath for your second wind
Calvino Rabeni: calls for revival ... a shot in the arm?
    druth Vlodovic: usually

druth Vlodovic: do you desire progress?
Calvino Rabeni: I think of it as just staying natural, I don't know if that's progress
    druth Vlodovic: staying natural?
Calvino Rabeni: yes, well maybe with a bit of enhancement. Like staying physically healthy, seems to take some work.
druth Vlodovic: a difference from inertia then :)
Calvino Rabeni: yes from slow decline
    druth Vlodovic: "staying natural"
druth Vlodovic: once it was natural for me to be outdoors all day
Calvino Rabeni: i don't see it as progress, necessarily
    druth Vlodovic: exploring tunnels
Calvino Rabeni: sounds fun, what tunnels?
druth Vlodovic: playing in abandoned buildings
Calvino Rabeni: right ... yes that sounds familiar
druth Vlodovic: there was a very long one under the highway, for drainage, though to use it there would have to be a flood
druth Vlodovic: it was a test of my clausterphobia
druth Vlodovic: huge weight above my back
    Calvino Rabeni: they were tight?
    druth Vlodovic: had to crawl
druth Vlodovic: not sure I'd fit now
Calvino Rabeni: It sounds like urban spelunking
druth Vlodovic: fear was a natural companion in childhood
    Calvino Rabeni: a playmate?
    druth Vlodovic: something to explore
druth Vlodovic: avoid, explore, even enjoy
    Calvino Rabeni: yes
druth Vlodovic: it moved me and I challenged it
druth Vlodovic: now I move me and my fears are more disabling than motivating
Calvino Rabeni: children .. a lot of them .. like to go to the edges
druth Vlodovic: their job is to find them :)
druth Vlodovic: the more I look at my progress the more i just see change
Calvino Rabeni: the idea of progress confuses me a bit
druth Vlodovic: an alteration of my natural state
Calvino Rabeni: I went rock climbing yesterday, and came to a vertical chimney that at one time I might have done somewhat recklessly
Calvino Rabeni: but I decided to turn back at that point

Calvino Rabeni: i didn't like the free climbing, and was alone, and the weather was turning
Calvino Rabeni: and I had a somewhat sprained wrist
Calvino Rabeni: anyway, I had to negotiate myself with a collection of small things
Calvino Rabeni: and decide that they added up to "no go"
druth Vlodovic: your list of motivations lengthened from "I am going that direction"
Calvino Rabeni: It was the last day of summer, and the clouds rolled in .. was raining by the time I returned
Calvino Rabeni: but I did take a side trip and roam a bit over a ridge
druth Vlodovic: did you feel regret at turning back?
Calvino Rabeni: This theme of "collection of small things that add up" seems to be common lately
Calvino Rabeni: yes I did feel some regret
Calvino Rabeni: and needed to decide what to do with it
Calvino Rabeni: whether it would be a "don't care", a "defeat" a motivation for something else
druth Vlodovic: there is a game I have played, where you pretend to be a character, and you gain or lose points for being wise/unwise. courageous/cowardly and a third thing i can't remember
druth Vlodovic: sometimes you lose and gain points at the same time, unavoidably
Calvino Rabeni: the third thing, was important?
    Calvino Rabeni: yes
druth Vlodovic: our mind become great collections of small and large things
druth Vlodovic: we call this "wisdom" :)
druth Vlodovic: in the West anyway
Calvino Rabeni: it sounds like an interesting game. Where did it come from?
druth Vlodovic: "Werewolf" a roleplaying game
druth Vlodovic: mainly it consists of beating on things lol
    Calvino Rabeni: ahem :)
Calvino Rabeni: toss in a little wisdom
druth Vlodovic: my sources of wisdom are seldom high brow :-?
druth Vlodovic: yes, like anything in life it all depends on how you play it
druth Vlodovic: and how much enjoyment you get you have in the process
druth Vlodovic: enjoyment you share and give yourself
Calvino Rabeni: High brow :) yes ...
Calvino Rabeni: I like the wisdom pattern - "Everything I need to know, I learned from X"
Calvino Rabeni: surprising how once that pattern started circulating, it helped people appreciate so many X's
druth Vlodovic: gives us a chance to list our learnings, and be silly about it
Calvino Rabeni: and wrestle the wisdom away from the high brow
Calvino Rabeni: Everything I need to know, I learned from quantum chromodynamics ...
Calvino Rabeni: no, I mean juggling..
Calvino Rabeni: oh damn, make that "my dog"
druth Vlodovic: if you can't make fun of something it often means you don't understand it, or you don't believe in it
Calvino Rabeni: .. cooking fritatas, that's it!
druth Vlodovic: juggling your dog while he changes colours?
Calvino Rabeni: he might be able .. not me

Calvino Rabeni: make fun of ... oh not in the sense of mockery, but of making it fun
druth Vlodovic: what did you finally decide to feel about the climb?
    Calvino Rabeni: this seems right
druth Vlodovic: teasing is only good if feelings aren't hurt
Calvino Rabeni: I've been playing a game but it became too much like work .. let's see if I can make it into fun
druth Vlodovic: but there is a reason that teasing is the default initiation ceremony
druth Vlodovic: the rediscovery of joy :)
Calvino Rabeni: oh about the climb, it can be a motivation for doing more strength training during the lazy winter months, to see if it's possible to create the upper body strength I could have used to pull up that chimney
Calvino Rabeni: or other things .. life overall is a game of happy side effects
Calvino Rabeni: how about that initiation reason?
druth Vlodovic: "what happens while we are making other plans"
Calvino Rabeni: or a reminder that the effects are way beyond the instrumental intentions we have for an action
druth Vlodovic: I have worked for almost two decades at places where teasing and insults are friendly communication
Calvino Rabeni: how has that been?
druth Vlodovic: a way of discovering how "safe" a person is,and how much fun you can have when they are around
druth Vlodovic: took some getting used to
druth Vlodovic: it has it's advantages
Calvino Rabeni: like rocking the boat to see how stable it is?
druth Vlodovic: for instance, image, while important, isn't an overwhelming concern
Calvino Rabeni: Maybe like driving on an icy road ... trying out a few hard brakes to see how much of a skid happens
druth Vlodovic: in some milieu anticipation of image damage makes living and even thinking all but impossible
Calvino Rabeni: who lives in that place?
druth Vlodovic: but where people expect each other to be human there is much more leeway to relax into ones own nature
    Calvino Rabeni: yes
druth Vlodovic: back when i was trying to fit into church culture i saw a lot of it
druth Vlodovic: depends on the church
    druth Vlodovic: and town
Calvino Rabeni: some people find a way to construct that for themselves
druth Vlodovic: and each individual who goes there :)
Calvino Rabeni: theres a lot of variety to churches
druth Vlodovic: churches are an outgrowth of human nature(s)
druth Vlodovic: creating one's own leeway isn't a talent I have mastered yet
Calvino Rabeni: interesting to see people do it
druth Vlodovic: one reason why rougues have such a following
Calvino Rabeni: yes .. I think stand-up comics are also equivalent to the medieval guild of fools
druth Vlodovic: the one who can say anything freely
    Calvino Rabeni: yes
Calvino Rabeni: and get away with it
druth Vlodovic: and thus a good source of freed-up wisdom
Calvino Rabeni: I like the way different comics create completely different ways of doing it
druth Vlodovic: we have many of our own answers if only we could accept them
Calvino Rabeni: I suppose if they are just "obvious" I'd appropriate them as "mine"
    druth Vlodovic: :)
Calvino Rabeni: but not sure I should get credit for them
druth Vlodovic: "steal from the best"
Calvino Rabeni: sometimes people get a kick out of fashion
Calvino Rabeni: I'd like to grok that

Calvino Rabeni: Eight PM Dinner .. a bit of an obligation .. GTG druth, good talking to you .. thanks and be well
    druth Vlodovic: hugs
    druth Vlodovic: eat well
    Calvino Rabeni: hugs
    Calvino Rabeni: bye
