On this Mayday Eliza was having problems with her computer again, and aplogised to all if her communication seemed odd.   Yakuza asked a very interesting question, and the following conversation ensued:

Yakuzza Lethecus:  wonder did noone ever suggested _______ as a guardian or is she or did she decline ?
Eliza Madrigal: She said (when another avatar) that she wasn't interested in being a guardian
Wol Euler: I would hesitate to invite her. She comes often to the meetings but doesn't really seem to be connected to our ideas. IMHO

The identity of this mystery Av must remain a mystery: A) Because Eliza removed her name from the log, thus obviously not wanting it in the public domain and B) Because I  hadn't arrived yet and consuequently don't know who they were discussing!   Obviously, one can made educated guesses....not that it matters all that much; although I found the subject particularly interesting as for the most part it could also have been applied to me for a long time after I started attending.  I never understood what it was all about and frankly still don't:  I am just happy to be able to help out with the day-to-day business of administration so to speak (I am not a buddhist or a philosopher).
Bruce hit F11 instead of F12 and died laughing, and Eliza cursed again because her lines weren't appearing.  At this point, I arrived; close behind Storm as it happened ( a rare visitor lately).   The subject of donations (or should that be dough-nations?) reared its ugly head once again:

Eliza Madrigal: Aphrodite, thanks so much for your again, very clear email

Yes, the dynamic Aph had struck again!  For the record, here is what she said:

    Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Pabbers!
Here is a gentle reminder that PaB depends on the support of it members.
For nearly three years Play as Being has graced the Second Life landscape. Its presence has been supported by private donations and funding from the Kira Institute. Now we are trying to make it more self-supporting from those who use PaB the most: the guardians and friends. Many of you give your time and effort and we really couldn't survive without all that wonderful voluntary help, but we still need a regular flow of cash, and if we all regularly gave a little we'd be in really good shape.

You know, this girl really missed her true calling: she should have worked for the IRS - I mean, who could resist a tax demand like that?  <3.  But back to the sordid business of filthy lucre (Art for Art's sake, money for God's sake and all that):

Storm Nordwind: The last four quarters we have raised $575, $395, $630, $380 - which is very good. So far this quarter we are likely to reach $700 which will be a record, but still short of target.

    Bummer.  We discussed PayPal.

Riddle Sideways: could somebody summerize the charges with L$, PayPal or CC
Eos Amaterasu is not sure how good he is at answering riddles
    Maxine Walden: :) Eos
    Aphrodite Macbain: :-)

People don't seem to rate PayPal: personally I have always found it sufficiently efficient for my own purposes, and don't know of a better alternative.  WePay was discussed, but is no good outside the US apparently.

Aphrodite Macbain: Given the number of complexities of donating, I wonder whether someone would anyone be willing to create a new wiki page that goes into detail of all the ways to donate, answering all the questions that are arising here?
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
Eliza Madrigal: its a good question... Bruce and I will add that to the wg agenda...

Next up was Sun and the music sessions:

    Agatha Macbeth: The Bieup Philharmonic
    Sunshine Vayandar: hehe yes Aga
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Sunshine Vayandar: we already have a jazz band
    Wol Euler: heheheh
    Agatha Macbeth waves her baton
Storm Nordwind likes the name "Bieup Philharmonic"
Sunshine Vayandar: yes it sounds elegant Storm ;)
    Bruce Mowbray will bring spoons.
Aphrodite Macbain: we need a concert hall!!
    Sunshine Vayandar: spoons are perfect
    Bruce Mowbray: :)
Wol Euler: if you've got the spoons, I'll bring the yoghurt

We decided on Wednesdays at 8AM for the music.  Storm decided at this juncture to live up to his name and make it rain.  Play that funky music wet boy...

Sunshine Vayandar: was there anything else on the agenda?
Aphrodite Macbain: I don't think so
Agatha Macbeth: There was an agenda? :p
    Sunshine Vayandar looks at Aga
Aphrodite Macbain: believe it or not
    Sunshine Vayandar: ;)
Agatha Macbeth: Not a hidden one then?
    Aphrodite Macbain: probably
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah
Aphrodite Macbain: mine is to keep dry

We wound up with Sun on the harp and Bruce on guitar.  Truly music calms the savage breast.  Or something....

    2011-05-08

You know, I always thought mimosa was a flower, apparently not...

Eliza Madrigal: Oh, mimosas are a traditional brunch drink....
Eliza Madrigal: orange juice and champagne
Aphrodite Macbain: Mimosa is orange juice and champagne that liza was going to have on mother's day!

Well, there ya go.  Where we would we be without mothers?  Well, nowhere....kinda....anyway.

Yaku (yakuzza.lethecus): Interesting, in germany there is also mothersday but in sweden it´s the last sunday of may.
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, so Mother's Day is scattered about?
    Aphrodite Macbain: just like mothers

The dreaded 1AMs rear their ugly head:

Eliza Madrigal: we may not be able to cover the 1ams just yet but it is worth a shot. Lia and I like to do this twice a year

The 1AMs remain intact....for now.  But there *is* good news!

Eliza Madrigal: AH, donations! We are going to meet the PaB target this quarter for the first time
    Wol Euler cheers!
    Eliza Madrigal toasts
    Sun (sunshine.vayandar): ;)
Eliza Madrigal: Huge thanks for long time and new contributors :)
    Eliza Madrigal: **********Applause!!**********
    Eliza Madrigal: **********Applause!!**********
    Bruce (bruce.mowbray): [`·.] APPLAUSE!! [.·´]
    Aphrodite Macbain APPLAUDS!!!
Aphrodite Macbain: hard to clap with a champagne glass in my hand
Wol Euler: you could demonstrate one-handed clapping

Ah, the wheeling and dealing of PaB finances do be complex me hearties:

Yaku (yakuzza.lethecus): i wonder is there an option to donate quaterly in order to pay less fee´s for paypal ?
Eliza Madrigal: good question Yaku, I think it is possible but I"m not sure if we've set that option up
Aphrodite Macbain: I automatically donate monthly
    Yaku (yakuzza.lethecus): yes, me too
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Yaku (yakuzza.lethecus): last time the issue came up that there are 8 percent charged
    Yaku (yakuzza.lethecus): for below 10$
    Yaku (yakuzza.lethecus): for example
Yaku (yakuzza.lethecus): so if it´s once all 3 month but less fee that would optimize at least ,,a little"
    Aphrodite Macbain: worth looking into
Eliza Madrigal: seems good to look into directly, Ya, thanks
    Eliza Madrigal: :) Snap

How come Rupert Murdoch never got involved in playing with his being?  Ah well....and while we're on the subject:

Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): what is the scholarship fund...if i may ask?

You know, I always wondered that too.  Eliza supplies the answer:

Eliza Madrigal: Ah, the scholarship fund is set up to be able to contribute part or whole costs for someone to attend a retreat...
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): Can money be donated specifically to the scholarship fund?
Eliza Madrigal: I would imagine, Susan, but I'm not sure there's been a precedent yet
Aphrodite Macbain: Do you know Wol?
Eliza Madrigal: so it might be something Storm/Eos would be able to answer
Wol Euler: no, I don't, sorry
    Aphrodite Macbain: yes
    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): thank you

There ya go, another complex fiscal issue solved.  Come to think of it who needs Murdoch?  Leave him playing with his didgeridoo I say.

Eliza Madrigal: I was reading in the logs that there are dreamers who would like to work on art projects together, too....
    Sun (sunshine.vayandar): instead of two
Eliza Madrigal: so maybe we are percolating ideas now
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: what kind of art projects Eliza?
    Sun (sunshine.vayandar): ;)
Eliza Madrigal: Not sure... but it is fun to watch how things stir around and then begin to take shapes
    Bleu (bleu.oleander): :)
    Sun (sunshine.vayandar): I agree ;)
Aphrodite Macbain: community building art projects? I like the idea of a joint art project where everyone contributes
Bruce (bruce.mowbray) ponders emergence in PaB.
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bruce (bruce.mowbray) loves the Art as Being projects. . .
Bruce (bruce.mowbray): any more of those coming up?
    Sun (sunshine.vayandar): hmm me too
    Bleu (bleu.oleander): stay tuned :)

    Sounds rather mysterious....

Eliza Madrigal: OH! Another thing I was noticing in the logs ... chicken bathing

    I beg your pardon?

    Wol Euler: O.O

    That's what she said....(allegedly)

    Riddle Sideways: hehehehe
    Wol Euler: as in "washing"?
Eliza Madrigal: that was definitely a first
    Lucinda Lavender: :)
    Eliza Madrigal: yes

    Good grief

Riddle Sideways: yes, read about chicken baths
    Wol Euler: okaaaay
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Lucinda Lavender: never really thought it would work but it does...

    Should I ask?  Maybe not.

Bruce (bruce.mowbray) loves it when topics that seem totally disparate begin to synthesize.

Yeh, I know the feeling.  The session ended with people turning into robots.  Yep, that's what I said....
    ...........................................................................................................................................

    2011.05.29

Eden has returned from Egypt!  We all wanted to know what she had been up to of course (see 2011.05.30 07:00 - Egyptian Tales for more information).  Egypt is *hot* apparently:

Eden Haiku: 35 , sometimes 50 in the desert but always cool in the shade. And dry.
Wol Euler: gods, that's too hot for me

But then I guess we already knew that eh? ;-)

Eden Haiku: Well, if you lie on your back with a white veil on your face to proitect you from the sun, you can meditate in the desert heat at 50 degrees Celsius with no problem at all ;-)

Maybe should try this at PaB?  Maybe not....

Eliza Madrigal: Did you meditate much Eden, more like a retreat or a trek?
Eden Haiku: Much meditations yes. Not quite a retreat but meditations in temples & pyramids. Getting in touch with the vortexes of energy.
    Eliza Madrigal: mmm intriguing
Eden Haiku: But staying in 5 stars hotels ;-)
    Wol Euler: :)

There is something afoot at Playasbeing evidently...

Eden Haiku: But there was something mysterious about this morning meeting, what was it?
Eliza Madrigal: Ah well it was just a nod to the way Bleu is keeping us in suspense

Yes, our very own Bleu is keeping us all in suspense! I wish she'd keep herself in suspenders, but that's another story....How fiendish that girl can be when she wishes...apparently something is being planned for June 12th.  Something to do with duck hunting perhaps?
'An undertaking of great advantage, but nobody to know what it is'  ah well.  Looks like the mystery will just have to continue for another fortnight, since neither Bleu or Eliza are telling us anything.  Maybe it was Colonel mustard with a lead pipe in the Library?  The convo turns to the weather

Eden Haiku: Montreal is grey & rainy at the end of May. Something's wrong with the weather...
Aphrodite Macbain: Here in Vancouver too
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): was grey and rainy in cali yesterday
Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Yeah, sounds like Manchester
    Wol Euler: and germany

Yet more unexplained happenings [gasp].  Has Wilhelm Reich been about with the cloudbuster again one wonders?  Unlikely, he died in 1957, so bang goes that theory.  Personally, I blame Michael Fish.  Dunno why, just do.  The great guardian time slot shuffle appears to have stalled for the time being  ('time being' - get it?  Please yourself)

Eliza Madrigal: I keep entertaining the idea of getting up at 4am but don't think it such a good idea. Kudos to Arch for trying that a while
Eliza Madrigal: but it is important. I think right now there are no changes

Status Quo - always did like their music.

Wol Euler: though I'd give up any except friday if somebody else wanted to share the joy

Eden Haiku: June 12 at noon, June 12 at noon... hehe

Stop it.  Meanwhile, seems like all is not well in Catalonia:

Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): a lot of people, we are angry with politicians behaviour..and they mett at center of cities to show this and to protest... and this weekend, police has acted with a lot of violence to put all people about...so , now, we are more angry

Where's George Orwell now, eh?  Damn, he's dead too....

Eden Haiku: It's a worldwide movement going like a wave thru the world...it's only starting. Consciences are awakening.

A SL friend of mine keeps telling me in all seriousness that the planet is starting to 'vibrate at a higher frequency' and sometime soon a whole load of people are going to be 'raptured away' because they won't be able to keep up with it.  Personally, I think it's all bull.

Eliza Madrigal: That may be a good intro to what would be #3 on agenda... the idea of having a "non-violent or 'open' communication" theme session

Aha, Mahatma Ghandi lives!  Oh, no....wait a minute....

Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): yes, it has spread around the world... that's nice.. to be able to criticise without violence

    'Put away that axe Eugene'

Eden Haiku: Message was about pure love of the 5th dimension;-) It was very funny to see them act that way...

Guess the pure love of the 5th Dimension just does that to ya :p

Eliza Madrigal: Item #2 on the agenda was to ask Yaku how the voice session in the pub went this week and if it will continue there. With us Ya?

Yaku woke up just long enough to inform us his Friday voice session has relocated to the Five Bells.  Surely nothing to do with the beer?

Yaku (yakuzza.lethecus): when i first thought about the happyhour i thought it to be like the happyhours that existed in the kira cafe a year ago and a regular pab session in voice

Maybe someone could explain to me how using voice makes people 'happy'.  It just makes me frustrated and long to give the monitor a good kicking.

Eliza Madrigal: And we continue to have music and prim sessions, though if one signs on late (into the session) an IM and tp might be necessary

'Music soothes the savage prim.'  Or something.

Eliza Madrigal: :) we usually find we didn't go anywhere though we seemed to have

Maybe she got raptured away by the planet?  I digress....

Aphrodite Macbain: I am wondering who might like to join me in planning the Non Violent Cmmunication theme session

    Charlie Manson?  No, scratch that.

Eliza Madrigal: probably not to much planning necessary? and maybe we could do it after June 12 June 12 June 12

June 12 June 12 June 12!  (God, now I'm doing it)

Eliza Madrigal: yes, good idea, and also some other things if they come up. Years ago there was a krishnamurti dialog with David Bohm that was really fascinating...

    Damn, I missed that

Eos Amaterasu: being truth, hearing your own truth, hearing someone else's truth, speaking truth
Aphrodite Macbain: Ultimately those who are "dialoguing" must agree to preserve the container agreed upon
    Eliza Madrigal: hmmm
Aphrodite Macbain: much like in a debate.
Eos Amaterasu: in complex issues it also goes to recreating container together
Aphrodite Macbain: no ad-hominems, speaking from one's own perspective
    Aphrodite Macbain: yes Eos
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
Eliza Madrigal: the idea that we don't have to keep repeating the way things have always seemed to go is important?
Eliza Madrigal: not we as in pab but in general...
Adams Rubble: in some cases it is dropping one's self in favor of the group

Eliza Madrigal: there is fight club, then there is 'civilized' dialog

The first rule of fight club is......no, I won't say it

We conclude with a lamentation about Bruce's absence

Wol Euler: apropos health or not, has anyone heard from Bruce?
Eliza Madrigal: not yet... he may not be settled back from NY
Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Is he still travelling?
Eliza Madrigal: though he should be home
Wol Euler: I hope he's OK, not stuck in some NY hospital
Eliza Madrigal: was he ill before leaving?
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Indeed
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Dunno
Wol Euler: arch says he got sick in NY
Eliza Madrigal feels out of the loop suddenly
    Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): oh! I didn't know
Wol Euler: he hasn't been online since the 17th
    Eliza Madrigal: Oh :(
Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): so sorry..I also hope he can come back soon

    To be continued..........
    June 12!  June 12!  June 12!
    <Thwop>
