    Eden Haiku: Hi Pila!
Pila Mulligan: how are you this evening
    Eden Haiku: Nice evening!
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Eden Haiku: I'm good. And you?
    Benedizione Vita: allo
    Pila Mulligan: I;m fine, thanks
    Pila Mulligan: hi Bene
Eden Haiku: I have been trying to write this RL email for about... 3 hours...
    Eden Haiku: Hi Bene!
Pila Mulligan: sounds like wuite an essay
    Pila Mulligan: quite*
Eden Haiku: No, it is about 2 lines long, but I connected to Sl and got carried away to potery readings, conversations and so on..
    Pila Mulligan: ah, I see
    Eden Haiku: *poetry...
Pila Mulligan: 3 hours of distractoins :)
    Eden Haiku: What about you?
Pila Mulligan: I've been dealing with weeds this afternoon :)
    Eden Haiku: In your garden?
Benedizione Vita: what kind of weeds? ;^)
Pila Mulligan: well, actually in the driveway
Pila Mulligan: I live in a rainforest
Pila Mulligan: where things grow like crazy
Pila Mulligan: and it you let grass grow in the gravel driveway it will turn to mush
Pila Mulligan: I do;t like poison so I got a weed torch - propane
Pila Mulligan: takes quite some time but it also makes the gravel very clean
Eden Haiku: I heard a bell about 3 minutes af
Pila Mulligan: how was your day, Bene?
Eden Haiku: I thought it was the Pab bell but no..
Benedizione Vita: hahaha I made the same mistake!
Pila Mulligan: I think there may be a bell at the start, but no pause message
Benedizione Vita: I have been sick for the last two days, but I am starting to feel better today
Pila Mulligan: just a starting bell :)
Benedizione Vita: I got some very good news this evening as well
Eden Haiku: yeah... I felt a surge of gratitude for this place, the sound of the fountain, the pace. I closed my eyes,
Benedizione Vita: thank you for asking
Eden Haiku: And I thought well 90 seconds ometimes does feel a looooong time...
Pila Mulligan: what was the news?
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Eden Haiku: ?
Benedizione Vita: hahaha I prefer to be mysterious :)
    Pila Mulligan: ok
Benedizione Vita: what jungle do you live in pila?
Eden Haiku: We can see that...
Pila Mulligan: I'm glad you are felling better - was it the flu?
Benedizione Vita: I don't know, pila, it might have been the beginnings
Pila Mulligan: one of the PaBers got the swine flu
Pila Mulligan: not that we risk exposure here
Eden Haiku: Oh, is the perspç
Benedizione Vita: I started to feel sick, so I junt went down for a few days and drank a lot of juice
Eden Haiku: Sorry, is the person better now?
    Pila Mulligan: yes, Eden
Pila Mulligan: but he said it was nasty
Eden Haiku: Did you get the vaccine?
    Pila Mulligan: hi gen
Pila Mulligan: want me to do the thing tonite?
Pila Mulligan: aren't you at the Princeotn session?
    genesis Zhangsun: Hi All!
genesis Zhangsun: actually no I am not in Princeton
Eden Haiku: Hello Genesis. Nice to meet you!
Pila Mulligan: oh, I thought you were :)
genesis Zhangsun: but I am having a hectic day
    Pila Mulligan: well, welcome :)
genesis Zhangsun: a water pipe broke in my front yard
Pila Mulligan: oh, that's a bummer
genesis Zhangsun: spent the past four hours fixing it
    Pila Mulligan: below ground?
Benedizione Vita: interesting day for everyone!
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Eden Haiku: I joined Facebook today. I'm going to get a hectic life!
    Benedizione Vita: interesting, eden
Benedizione Vita: has it started to change the way you look at the world yet?
genesis Zhangsun: yes sorry below ground
Pila Mulligan: were you able to fix the pipe yourself, Gen?
genesis Zhangsun: but it was only a couple of feet down which was the problem
genesis Zhangsun: I hit it trying to terrace
Pila Mulligan: that can make such a mid mess, leakng pipes
    Pila Mulligan: mud*
genesis Zhangsun: no I had some family to help me out
Eden Haiku: No. I have only one friend on Facebook for now so it is not too bad. We had lunch together in my neighbourhood and she showed me how to log in when she came home.
Pila Mulligan: do you want me to take the log?
genesis Zhangsun: I am trying to take it unsuccesfully
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Benedizione Vita: it is interesting, eden, you may find yourself thinking about what your favorite books, music, activites, et. are ;^)
    Eden Haiku: It worked Genesis.
Benedizione Vita: it can become quite a strong factor in structuring one's worldview
Benedizione Vita: and sense of identity
    Pila Mulligan: what is Facebook?
Eden Haiku: I gather you are on Facebook. Have you been for a while?
Pila Mulligan: soory to be so uninformed :)
Eden Haiku: Pila! I can't beleive you!
Pila Mulligan: I am just an old fut in a jungle :)
    genesis Zhangsun: :)
Eden Haiku: A deep deep jungle in a big big island in far far far Pacific ocean...
genesis Zhangsun: well I suppose when you live in paradise you don't really need things like facebook to pass the time :)
Pila Mulligan: maybe I do though, I just don't knw abot it yet
Pila Mulligan: ... and PaB/Kira certainly has been nice for passing the time :)
Benedizione Vita: I used to be on facebook--technically it still stores my info, but my account has been disabled for some time
Pila Mulligan: is it like a chat site?
Eden Haiku: ;-) Maybe you can become my second friend on Facebook when you log on Facebook Pila?
Benedizione Vita: don't do it Pila! your garden will go unweeded :)
Pila Mulligan: maybe, but first I need to find out what it is :)
    Pila Mulligan: lol
Benedizione Vita: it started off as an online version of the dorm directories at harvard, with the added feature of comparing the attractiveness of two people
    Pila Mulligan: really
Benedizione Vita: it has grown into the largest social networking site in the world (I think it has passed myspace?)
Pila Mulligan: Joe is uglier than John?
Eden Haiku: I'm in no place to ell you waht it is as I'm about 4 hours old in this new time-consuming game!
Pila Mulligan: does it still compare attractivness?
Eden Haiku: I have never been on My Space...How was it Pila?
Benedizione Vita: I think there are probably "apps" (add-ons to the standard software) that do that now
Pila Mulligan: that was Bene's comment Eden :)
Benedizione Vita: but it isn't a primary function, as of when I left
Pila Mulligan: so I asusme there are chat like things there ....
Benedizione Vita: yes, there is an IM feature
Pila Mulligan: I too have never been on My Space, Eden
Eden Haiku: For now, my friend shared a Shiva song with me.
Benedizione Vita: has largely replaced AOL instant messenger (aim) in some demographics
Eden Haiku: Did Genesis try onigokko?
genesis Zhangsun: its kind of amazing Pila that you ended up here without knowing anything about facebook or myspace, the barriers are supposedly much higher here!
Pila Mulligan: I read about SL in the NY times
    genesis Zhangsun: sure Eden :)
genesis Zhangsun: Ah okay makes sense
genesis Zhangsun: was it about the seedy side of SL?
Eden Haiku: Always looking for a reason for a little onigokko time...
    Benedizione Vita: onigokko
    genesis Zhangsun: ;)
Pila Mulligan: it was about the antiicpated business uses actually
    Benedizione Vita: stop
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Benedizione Vita: onigokko
    Benedizione Vita: stop
    Benedizione Vita: onigokko
    genesis Zhangsun: :)
    Benedizione Vita: stop
Benedizione Vita: I love that thing!
    Pila Mulligan: it is fun
    Eden Haiku: Musical chairs!
genesis Zhangsun: darn I just got mine on!
Pila Mulligan: I think it is cool how no one bumps into anyone else
Benedizione Vita: haha and it gives such a sense of power :):):)
Pila Mulligan: Bene can deal with it Gen :)
Eden Haiku: I troed to use it somewhere else but someone needs to order it? How does it work?
Pila Mulligan: that was your cue Bene
    Pila Mulligan: onigokko
    Benedizione Vita: onigokko!
Benedizione Vita: can we arrange it so we run into each other I wonder?
    Pila Mulligan: stop
    Benedizione Vita: stop
Benedizione Vita: wow, we are synced pila!
genesis Zhangsun: thanks don't feel left out
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Benedizione Vita: onigokko
    Benedizione Vita: stop
    Benedizione Vita: onigokko
    Benedizione Vita: any collisions?
Eden Haiku: I always end up loosing my skirt doing it!\
    Pila Mulligan: not yet
    Benedizione Vita: stop
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Benedizione Vita: onigokko
Pila Mulligan: it is very sychronized it seems, well designed
Benedizione Vita: I think this setup makes some collisions, but I can't tell
Benedizione Vita: yeah, it really is well designed
    Benedizione Vita: stop
Benedizione Vita: though interestingly, since I typed stop while I was running, I am now knees deep in the ground
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: try standing up Bene
Eden Haiku: It is like old cartoons on TV,
    Pila Mulligan: there
Pila Mulligan: yes, it is Eden
Eden Haiku: Is onigooko an hawaiian name Pila? Or japanese?
    Pila Mulligan: Japanese I think
    Eden Haiku: *onigokko
    genesis Zhangsun: yes japanese
genesis Zhangsun: I think it is the game of tag
Pila Mulligan: g is not a Hawaiian letter
Eden Haiku: No g in Hawaian language? How is it called this language?
    Pila Mulligan: The alphabet contains 12 letters: 5 vowels (a, e, i, o, u) and 7 consonants (h, k, l, m, n, p, w).
    Pila Mulligan: from http://www.alternative-hawaii.com/alpha.htm
    Eden Haiku: Thnaks
Pila Mulligan: it was invented by missionaries as Hawaiians had no written language
    Eden Haiku: *Thanks.
    Benedizione Vita: hi steve
    Pila Mulligan: hi Steve
    genesis Zhangsun: hey steve!
Pila Mulligan: how was your day at the retreat?
stevenaia Michinaga: hello, back from Princeton :) a lovely day
genesis Zhangsun: sorry I didn't say hi to you two Bene and Eden when I arrived I was a little flustered :)
    Pila Mulligan: cool
Pila Mulligan: plumbing can do that Gen :)
Eden Haiku: I think Wikipedia is derived from the hawaian word wiki-wiki which means fast. Or is a maori word?
Pila Mulligan: yes, wiki is hawaiian for hurry
genesis Zhangsun: yes gallons of water aimed at your house is disorienting :)
    Pila Mulligan: quick
Pila Mulligan: as in 'fix the pipe, wiki!'
Benedizione Vita: are you in hawaii, pila?
stevenaia Michinaga: who aimed gallon of water at your house?
    Pila Mulligan: yes
Eden Haiku: Hi Steve, I can't see you yet. Did you get an invisibility cloak at the retreat?
stevenaia Michinaga: patience, I inevitiably appear
Pila Mulligan: Gen had an underground water pipe break, Steve
Eden Haiku: Very profound Stevenaia...very profound indeed...
Eden Haiku: Lag wisdom, rezzing wisdom...
    stevenaia Michinaga: thx
stevenaia Michinaga: sorry for you and your house Gen
genesis Zhangsun: its fixed now and didn't even call a plumber :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: Being fixed it?
    Pila Mulligan: :) DIY
genesis Zhangsun: something like that Steve :)
Eden Haiku: You repaired it yourself!
genesis Zhangsun: with a lot of help from my dad
    stevenaia Michinaga: Yey dad
genesis Zhangsun: next best thing to Being :)
Eden Haiku: Still, you must feel powerful. To deal which such a powerful element: water!
Pila Mulligan: in my recollection the mud is the worst part
genesis Zhangsun: yes absolutely I thought about having a mud wrestling party :)
    genesis Zhangsun: too cold
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Eden Haiku: Water and earth together, yes...mud!
Eden Haiku: Where do you live Genesis?
    genesis Zhangsun: Berkeley
    genesis Zhangsun: you Eden?
Eden Haiku: Montreal. here it is REALLY getting cold...
    genesis Zhangsun: yes much colder!
stevenaia Michinaga: have you been in Montreal long Eden? I ahve been there when it was 40 below :)
Eden Haiku: Though the Bay Area can get pretty cold too in the mornings and nights I think?
Eden Haiku: Yes, I was born in Montreal area. 40 below used to be every year. Not anymore. Not yet this year...
Pila Mulligan: that is very cold
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
    genesis Zhangsun: indeed! very cold
Eden Haiku: Very cold. When it lasts 10 days as it sometimes does, you just want to hide under blankets...
stevenaia Michinaga: we played cards around the stove
    genesis Zhangsun: sounds cozy steve
stevenaia Michinaga: like today w/o the heat
Eden Haiku: Benedizione does have an Italian name. I know you want to be mysterious...but do you have anything to do with Italy;-)
    Pila Mulligan: poof
Eden Haiku: How was your retreat Srtve?
genesis Zhangsun: wow man of mystery
stevenaia Michinaga: dificult questions will do that
genesis Zhangsun: yes Steve tell us about that
stevenaia Michinaga: the retreat was lovely
    stevenaia Michinaga: highly recommened :)
Eden Haiku: Did I make him dissapear?
Pila Mulligan: is it over now or will it also continue Sunday?
stevenaia Michinaga: we needed you there gen, you summerize things so nicely
stevenaia Michinaga: Everyone is leaving tomarrow I believe
stevenaia Michinaga: nice meeting some wonderful people, both new and old faces
Eden Haiku: It is so lovely here but I will try to finish my email before I go to bed. Bye Pila, Steve, Genesis I was glad to meet you ;-)
    Pila Mulligan: bye Eden
    genesis Zhangsun: bye eden
    stevenaia Michinaga: email?
Pila Mulligan: she had been trying to write an email but was distracted by SL, she said earlier
genesis Zhangsun: so Piet called me as you know Steve on friday it sounded like you guys were really deep into the Arch issue
    stevenaia Michinaga: I missed that,
genesis Zhangsun: oh good so it wasn't all organizational type stuff
stevenaia Michinaga: only what was in emails
stevenaia Michinaga: we did some nice nice focused meditation and follow up dicussion, considering trying to apply them here
    genesis Zhangsun: nice
genesis Zhangsun: did Pema lay out his 5 level scheme ending in "radical openess"?
    stevenaia Michinaga: not today
    genesis Zhangsun: "Time-Life" approach?
    stevenaia Michinaga: touched on that
    stevenaia Michinaga: (I think)
genesis Zhangsun: I finally wrote something up about the august retreat which outlines the practices we did, I am getting it cleared by the retreat group and then I will post to the wiki for all those interested
stevenaia Michinaga: more basic ideas Ys Bs, thought arising
stevenaia Michinaga: for varying time periods
stevenaia Michinaga: with follow up discussions
stevenaia Michinaga: and a nice histoical perspective of PaB from pema
genesis Zhangsun: nice and Stim was he there?
stevenaia Michinaga: no, he and Maxine depated yesterday, would ahve been nice to see them again
Pila Mulligan: the list hsowed Storm as being there
Pila Mulligan: I guess he came pretty far too
genesis Zhangsun: so what were your experiences like with the practices? did you notice some sort of group energy>
    stevenaia Michinaga: no
Pila Mulligan: oh, he wasn't there?
Pila Mulligan: hmm, I misunderstood then
stevenaia Michinaga: actually, there was a profound sence of change in the energy level preceived by two of the group doing one minute of "You Seeing and then changing to Being Seeing
stevenaia Michinaga: we also did some 10 10 minute sessions of other focused meditation
    stevenaia Michinaga: jsut 10
genesis Zhangsun: did you notice a difference between shorter meditations and longer ones?
    stevenaia Michinaga: a nice variety
stevenaia Michinaga: the sorter one minute times were just right, and the 10 minute sessions were to short
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: *shorter
genesis Zhangsun: in what way were the one minute times just right?
stevenaia Michinaga: it allowed for complete and focused thougth, Ys BS
stevenaia Michinaga: sometimes what appears first is all that is needed
genesis Zhangsun: and the ten minutes could u say a bit more?
stevenaia Michinaga: that was a more view of letting go, which allowed for a sort of annimated dialog to appear for myself, a linear storyboed of ideas for me that could have continued for quite some time... perhaps years :)
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: maybe just 1 year :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: to start
genesis Zhangsun: so a lot imagining you are meditating going on?
    genesis Zhangsun: spacing out?
stevenaia Michinaga: no, not spacing out, very focused
genesis Zhangsun: but focused on ideas as opposed so something beyond?
stevenaia Michinaga: plus it was a lovely day for some nice walks
    genesis Zhangsun: *opposed to
stevenaia Michinaga: we tried to focus on specific topics
stevenaia Michinaga: a framed idea and each to choose what to do with that
genesis Zhangsun: Sorry I was talking about what was going on for you in those ten minutes as opposed to the entire retreat
stevenaia Michinaga: not sure what you mean in "somethng beyond"
genesis Zhangsun: you said that you were engaging in a storyboard so I was asking whether you felt like that was engaging with your thoughts or something else
stevenaia Michinaga: even defined topics have no boundries
stevenaia Michinaga: I was defining a set of evolving images
    stevenaia Michinaga: which were topical
    stevenaia Michinaga: "famed"
    Pila Mulligan: framed?
stevenaia Michinaga: there sis start to be some commonality in the groups perceptions which was nice
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, Eos would frame the meditation with an idea
    genesis Zhangsun: like?
stevenaia Michinaga: like dropping self to see what emerges,
stevenaia Michinaga: I am begining to loose memories of specifics... like a dream
stevenaia Michinaga: like who said what
genesis Zhangsun: to define more clearly what I meant by "going beyond" I guess I am asking whether you feel you are going beyond your usual conversation with self- the one that goes on continuously or whether this dialog or storyboard had another feeling to it
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: not sure I have usual conversations about self, so yes these were all new or building upon previouse thought I had on the topic
genesis Zhangsun: okay great, well thanks for sharing
genesis Zhangsun: I have to get going!
    Pila Mulligan: bye Gen
Pila Mulligan: mazel tov on your plumbing accomplishmets
    genesis Zhangsun: thanks!
stevenaia Michinaga: for instance, step one, is there a self to drop things from, what is self, who defines self, I better define self or there won;t be anything to drom :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: *from
stevenaia Michinaga: you can consume 10 minutes quickly
stevenaia Michinaga: ...anything to drop, rather
Pila Mulligan: is there a guardian meeting Sunday at 8 am?
genesis Zhangsun: yes I think there is Pila!
    Pila Mulligan: thanks
stevenaia Michinaga: we also touched on intension..... which defines what/who we are
genesis Zhangsun: well I have to be off, but yes I know what you mean steve there are certainly topics to explore in meditation, but I tend in my own practice to refrain from exploring them in my usual dualistic way, which involves dialog with self
genesis Zhangsun: I try to to drop the dialog entirely
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
stevenaia Michinaga: would be intereted in hearing about that sometime
genesis Zhangsun: but I certainly have to have it first, and notice that I am having it to drop it
    stevenaia Michinaga: interested
    stevenaia Michinaga: night Gen
genesis Zhangsun: yes me too I would like to talk more about it with you
genesis Zhangsun: I am sure we will find an opportunity :)
    genesis Zhangsun: night
    Pila Mulligan: bye for now
    stevenaia Michinaga: bye
stevenaia Michinaga: I suspect you meditate more than I
stevenaia Michinaga: I suspect many do
genesis Zhangsun: :) we all have our own way
    Pila Mulligan: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: I did a standing meditation , getting used to that at the begining of Tai Chi
    Pila Mulligan: nice
Pila Mulligan: I like them, too
stevenaia Michinaga: still focued on circulat breathing though
    Pila Mulligan: for tai chi
stevenaia Michinaga: up the front, down the back
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
    Pila Mulligan: vice verse
    Pila Mulligan: I hope
    stevenaia Michinaga: rut ro
stevenaia Michinaga: down the back and up the front, yet
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
Pila Mulligan: up the b ack, down the front
Pila Mulligan: is the pat of chi
    Pila Mulligan: path*/
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
stevenaia Michinaga: still new, I better ask
Pila Mulligan: let me find a picture for you
    Pila Mulligan: http://ways-of-knowing.wik.is/@api/d...g?size=webview
Pila Mulligan: this is an excellent image
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes thx
Pila Mulligan: that image is fomr a meditation book, but it is the same for tai chi
Pila Mulligan: one breathing sitting, one breathing moving
Pila Mulligan: I like the analogy in the image with washing = inhalation and bathing = exhalation
Pila Mulligan: inhalation is the more active part, in that sense
Pila Mulligan: exhalation is more laid back
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes,
stevenaia Michinaga: in time it was be automatic
Pila Mulligan: like it is for babies
    Pila Mulligan: autonomous :)
Pila Mulligan: breathing can easily be affected by emotions, so we need to let it have autonomy
stevenaia Michinaga: it can also purge emotions
Pila Mulligan: yes, healthy breathing can indeed purge unsettling emotions
Pila Mulligan: just as 'bad' breathing can compund them
stevenaia Michinaga: or no breathing :)
    Pila Mulligan: yes, asphyxiation
Pila Mulligan: as an emotional response to
    Pila Mulligan: .... whatevers
    Pila Mulligan: fear, desire, etc.
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, I try to avoid those
Pila Mulligan: a trciky one is fascination
stevenaia Michinaga: amazed at how many can't
    stevenaia Michinaga: fascination is bad?
Pila Mulligan: in the sense that it can draw you into something to the extent that you loose your footing
    Pila Mulligan: or breath
    stevenaia Michinaga: awww
Pila Mulligan: even fear is not really bad
    Pila Mulligan: just the excesses
Pila Mulligan: I just had a nice ice cream, speaking of desire :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: in moderation
Pila Mulligan: fascination is tricky because it can stay with you
Pila Mulligan: having alonger term impact
Pila Mulligan: are you familiar with mudras?
stevenaia Michinaga: I;ve heard the term
Pila Mulligan: it is commonly used to describe finger positions during meditation
    stevenaia Michinaga: but nothing more
    Pila Mulligan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mudra
Pila Mulligan: wiki ha smuch more than just meditation finger positions
Pila Mulligan: but the most common is to have the forefinger touch the thumb
Pila Mulligan: it is part of meditation posture
Pila Mulligan: tai chi Grasp Bird's Tail is like amudra
    Pila Mulligan: a mudra*
stevenaia Michinaga: not familiar with that
    Pila Mulligan: http://cdn-viper.demandvideo.com/med...8BCFF4DF_2.jpg
Pila Mulligan: your teacher may use a different name
    Pila Mulligan: preceding could hands
    Pila Mulligan: cloud*
stevenaia Michinaga: time for me to go, it was 3 hours of driving todya
Pila Mulligan: ok, have a nice rest Steve
    stevenaia Michinaga: night pila
    Pila Mulligan: bye for now
