Wol Euler was guardian for this rather miscellaneous session.

Wol Euler: So, dear Listener, here we are again.
Wol Euler: I've been thinking about retreats and formal meditation lately, for obvious reasons.
Wol Euler: Said obvious reason being that I have organized a RL retreat for Play as Being, meeting in Germany this weekend (for the wiki).
Wol Euler: As well as the sick excitement of wondering what I got wrong and when it'll become apparent, I have been remembering past retreats and how much I enjoyed them.
Crusty arrives, still wearing his Santa hat from last year.
    Wol Euler: morning crusty.
    Crusty Goldshark: hi
Wol Euler: still santa-fied, I see :) Keep wearing it, in two months you'll be in fashion again
Crusty Goldshark: that is the plan ;)
    Wol Euler chuckles.
Wol Euler: I can't say the phrase "a simple plan" now without thinking of that Coen Brothers film :)
Crusty Goldshark: Not sure which film?
Wol Euler: ah! A simple plan.
In point of fact, the film is by Sam Raimi. No idea why I was sure it was by the Coens.
    Wol Euler: very highly recommended.
    Crusty Goldshark: don't know it . . .
Wol Euler: funny and brutal and very bloody
Wol Euler: put that on your netflix list
Crusty Goldshark: I will look out for it
Wol Euler: typical Coen Brothers: start with a really simple idea, follow it logically, and watch as everything goes to hell
Crusty Goldshark: ah wait a minute - does it involve a cupboard and murder?
Wol Euler: it involves an airplane and snow
    Crusty Goldshark: no I don't know it . .
Wol Euler realizes how much snow there is in Coen Brothers films.
Wol Euler: they love winter. I'd never realized that before.
    Crusty Goldshark: Snow is magical
    Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: how are you these days?
Crusty Goldshark: not many people here - are the numbers down or variable?
    Crusty Goldshark: I am OK
Wol Euler: variable, but 1am SL time is usually slow.
Crusty Goldshark: I here they are moving to a run in browser model - good plan
Crusty Goldshark: How are things with you?
Wol Euler: I'm pretty well thanks.
Wol Euler: going on retreat next week, looking forward to that
Wol Euler: like a holiday from myself
Crusty Goldshark: Buddhist ? Which tradition?
Wol Euler: Play as Being tradition :)
    Wol Euler: non-denominational
    Wol Euler: I organized it.
    Crusty Goldshark: Where?
Wol Euler: we do RL retreats for the SL guardians, four times a year. This will be in Germany, near Heidelberg
    Crusty Goldshark: Ah good news
Wol Euler: on a farm, miles away from anything
    Crusty Goldshark: wonderful
At this point I had a random spontaneous crash.
Wol Euler: so, try that again
Crusty Goldshark: Been doing a practice dedicated to Hindu Deity Ganesh lately
    Wol Euler: ah! do tell.
    Wol Euler likes Ganesh.
Crusty Goldshark: Well my sister took a shine to Ganesh at the local temple, so I invoked him further, creating a program to chant and diplay his image in Puppy Linux
    Wol Euler: heheheeh
Crusty Goldshark: She now has a statue of him - quite unusual for an atheist
Wol Euler: So do I actually :) Tiny, about an inch tall, standing on the base of my monitor at work.
Wol Euler: I don't know whether nobody has noticed, or whether they don't have the confidence to ask :)
Crusty Goldshark: Sadly I only have a virtual ganesh plus an image cut from a calander . . .
Wol Euler: give me your RL info in IM and I'll send you one :)
Wol Euler: do you know the ganesh temple here?
Crusty Goldshark: Oh gosh that is a great idea I will go visit the virtual elephant god
Wol Euler: it's as much a shop as a temple, but perhaps taht is appropriate. The mixture feels very Indian.
Eos joins us as the topic morphs into meditation.
    Wol Euler: good morning Eos
Crusty Goldshark: also decided to do an hour of meditation for 10 days - that is getting easier - I am about half way through
    Crusty Goldshark: Hi Eos
Crusty Goldshark: My plan was to be enlightened by the end of the week - and Friday is here - may take a little longer . . .
Eos Amaterasu: Hi Wol and Crusty
Wol Euler: well :) a week is perhaps a bit optimistic
Eos Amaterasu had fallen into the gap as he came in
    Wol Euler: np
Wol Euler: you are in Paris?
Eos Amaterasu: Yes, on a beautiful morning
    Wol Euler smiles.
Eos Amaterasu: Seem to be more songbirds here than in Nova Scotia
Crusty Goldshark: I am in London
    Wol Euler: heheh
Eos Amaterasu nods to the left....
Wol Euler: perhaps they too like the city life?
Wol Euler: or perhaps htey just stand out because they are unfamiliar species and songs?
Crusty Goldshark: Elephants or the enlightened?
Eos Amaterasu: yes to both.... the social space of the city with trees
    Back to Ganesh.
Wol Euler: (we were talking about ganesh earlier)
    Eos Amaterasu: ah
    Wol Euler: enlightened elephants
Crusty Goldshark: Well Ganesh is merely a God, I have him above the Buddha on my shelf/shrine but I think they get along fine
Wol Euler: perhaps they have compassion for each other.
Eos Amaterasu sees the ghost of Bleu
    Wol Euler smiles.
    Wol Euler: a puzzle, perhaps
    Eos Amaterasu smiles
Crusty Goldshark: Ganesh has big belly and it contains all the woes of the world - I have 3 metta ray Buddhas who are also pot bellied . . . however they tend to keep the woes behind them
Crusty Goldshark: So it always seems that being aware of others suffering and being able to bear it - cheers even the gods up ;)
    Wol Euler nods.
Eos Amaterasu: you mean "the gods are not like the rest of us"?
Crusty Goldshark: well I suppose there are imaginary gods, gods we entangle with - real gods are more ponderous and variable . .
Crusty Goldshark: What is your take on gods Eos?
Eos Amaterasu: "we are as gods and we might as well get good at it" - Stewart Brand, ca 1968
    Wol Euler: heheheh
Eos gives me a title and a reminder.
Eos Amaterasu: but also everything is truly magical & full of gods as outpourings of the spirit
    Wol Euler: true
Wol Euler: I was thinking of the descriptions of the internet gods in William Gibson's cyberspace trilogy
Wol Euler: Legba, Papa Ougou, Baron Samedi, Grand Brigitte and such, the loa of voudou
Wol Euler: he describes them as placeholders in our thoughts for real forces in the world and in us
    Eos Amaterasu: aha!
Wol Euler: like moving a chesspiece that represents an army
Crusty Goldshark: I am probably not that good at being god, however I am advocating the creation of an AI cybergod
    Eos Amaterasu: serious gaming
Crusty Goldshark: well I think gods should be more readly available as brain wifi with more powers and abilities
Eos Amaterasu notes that Being itself has said "Thank you"
Crusty Goldshark: however advertisers and other potential god owners are going to be a problem in the future
Wol Euler: gaming is serious, eos :)
Eos Amaterasu: it's the god behind my eyeballs I'm interested in
That was very nearly the title.
Eos Amaterasu: nobody can own that
    Wol Euler nods.
Crusty Goldshark: LOL - that is what all the mortals think - so I am told
Crusty Goldshark: I think we are more owned than free
Wol Euler: perhaps, but the shackles were put on willingly, and we have the key
Eos Amaterasu: we are more not than are, aren't we not?
Crusty Goldshark: However moving beyond our limitations is very much the path . . .
Wol Euler: "free" is an ideal, a goal, like enlightenment
Eos Amaterasu: little moments are the way to taste "free"
Crusty Goldshark: LOL - no I do not buy the we are spirit manifest story - rather I would say cicumstnce dictates our arrival and we decide how we will live within that partial being
Wol Euler: can't both be true? :)
Crusty Goldshark: of course but which of the both do we experience - if we are lucky both and increasingly we are aware of the indpendence of our own centrality . . .
Wol Euler: well, sure, experience is restricted to what we choose to do, and our understanding of what happened is restrictted to what we let ourselves believe
    Crusty Goldshark: :)
Wol Euler: but we restrict ourselves, and could choose to do differently.
Wol Euler: which is why we are all here, now, right? :)
Wol Euler: learning how to un-restrict
Eos Amaterasu: the extent of our being able to tune itself is not independent
    Eos Amaterasu: tune ourself
Crusty Goldshark: Not that I am aware of - this idea that we come here willingly seems to be contrary to the way consciousness arises and dissipates - it does not arrive from some central god pool - unless you know different?
Eos Amaterasu: no, I do not come here willingly, sir! (said dramatically)
Wol Euler frowns. Are you saying that we were constrained to come here by external force?
Crusty Goldshark: The external force is the dust that we arise from
Eos Amaterasu wonders where he was before he was born
Wol Euler notices the time. I have to leave for work, alas. Please continue, I've claimed the session.
    Wol Euler: Enjoy your Fridays!
Crusty Goldshark: before you were born and after there tends to be no you as far as I am aware . . .
Eos Amaterasu: Thanks Wol and Crust, I must also depart!
    Wol Euler: bye for now
    Eos Amaterasu: bye
    Crusty Goldshark: Bye guys
