Stim Morane: In the contemplative and yogic traditions I usually teach, contentment is literally as well as functionally understood to be related to containment: staying close to yourself, your nature. In that sense, it’s natural and not achieved.
Stim Morane: the two words are very close
Stim Morane: this is part of the point of "stopping" too.
Stim Morane: not terminating, but returning, staying close, with appreciation

Stim Morane: the point is that happiness is intrinsic to what we "are", not external. This seems false when we get traumatized etc., or lost in circumstances.

Stim Morane: yes, containment sounds repressive. But the words have the same root, and this fact is used in yogic traditions. It doesn't mean constricting yourself, but simply "returning", staying close.
Corvuscorva Nightfire nods...the returning...the staying with my nature feels right...especially the idea of not being able to do it when traumatized or lost in circumstances.
Wol Euler: wehn I htink about having been content, it is usually in small (mental) places: at home in the kitchen, alone in the office, with friends at a cozy restaurant table. Not on holiday or on a mountaintop.
Corvuscorva Nightfire: but the result feels more like allowing....letting go.

Stim Morane: yes. Letting go is the same, because it's the "projects", the going out, that is relaxed.
