The Guardian for this meeting was Sylectra Darwin. The comments are by Sylectra Darwin.

    Sylectra Darwin: hello.
    Paul Namiboo: Good evening Sylectra
    Sylectra Darwin: How are you?
Paul Namiboo: I'm a newbie who just tried fixing his hair -- can't get rid of black patch on back!
    Sylectra Darwin: I see. Hmmm
Paul Namiboo: I'll try to show you
    --BELL--
Sylectra Darwin: perhaps you are wearing prim hair and also having regular non-prim hair?
Sylectra Darwin: I can see just fine, thanks.
    Sylectra Darwin: Please sit. RElax.
Sylectra Darwin: Or feel free to adjust. :)
Paul Namiboo: No prim hair, and I'm pretty relaxed -- maybe it just shows the hole in my head!
    Sylectra Darwin: Hi Pila, welcome
    Sylectra Darwin: haha!
Pila Mulligan: hi Sylectra and Paul
    Paul Namiboo: Hi Pila
Sylectra Darwin: IT's been a while since I adjusted the kind of hair your avatar comes with at first, but I would suggest finding and wearing something called "bald base" - do you know how to find it?
Paul Namiboo: I'll try later -- I assume its on the hair choice in "appearances"
Pila Mulligan: (be back in a moment)
Sylectra Darwin: You can find it in your inventory by using the search blank at the top of the inventory window.
    Sylectra Darwin: OK Pila.
Sylectra Darwin: So Paul, have you been to this Pavilion before?
    Pila Mulligan: back
    Sylectra Darwin: welcome back, Pila.
    Pila Mulligan: thanks
Paul Namiboo: I'll try working on my head.
    Pila Mulligan: ;)
Paul Namiboo: Didn't find "bald base"
Sylectra Darwin: It seems like I am always working on my head.
    Sylectra Darwin: hehe
    Sylectra Darwin: hmmm
    Paul Namiboo: lol
Sylectra Darwin: This is an intresting puzzle.
    Pila Mulligan: ?
Sylectra Darwin: Paul have you been to this group before?
    Pila Mulligan: he has Syl
Paul Namiboo: I don't mind -- until I work on the clothes it will let me recognize myself -- often a problem in RL
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Sylectra Darwin: often!
    Sylectra Darwin: hehe
Pila Mulligan: Paul works with Doug on some rl stuff
Sylectra Darwin: well I am glad to meet you, Paul.
Paul Namiboo: And Doug has een at the retreat -- leaving me with a hole in my head
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: I hope all is well with the retreatees
Sylectra Darwin: yes, do you have any reports from the retreat?
Paul Namiboo: Haven't heard a word, but I suspect we'll see Doug on the weekend
Pila Mulligan: I think Threedee Shepherd (SL name) also has done some RL work with Doug
Paul Namiboo: We're trying to get a group of colleagues around the world to come on second life because it's such a neat and relaxing way to meet and solve the problems of the world
    Pila Mulligan: nice
Sylectra Darwin: Oh, I know ThreeDee and Doug both, but only ThreeDee have I met in RL.
    Sylectra Darwin: yay! Great idea.
Pila Mulligan: oh, did you meet Threedee at the first gathering in Princeton, Syl?
    Sylectra Darwin: yes, I did@
    Sylectra Darwin: !
    Pila Mulligan: cool
Paul Namiboo: But I'm getting hooked on this group too -- very interesting how easy it is when you don't have appearance and accent interfering with affiliation
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Sylectra Darwin: He was very nice. I met Adelaide too.
Pila Mulligan: and my poor hearing is not a problem when the chat is in typed text
    Sylectra Darwin: True, Paul.
Pila Mulligan: Steve was happy to meet them both too
    Pila Mulligan: he said
Paul Namiboo: It's especially nice compared to phone/skype conferences -- nobody can step on your lines, you know who's talking, and you can have a record
Sylectra Darwin: Steve I have met several times in RL. He's a sweetheart.
    Pila Mulligan: :0
Pila Mulligan: this is from Threedee's SL profile Paul: Retired Professor, University of Colorado, in Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Visual System, 3D Immersive Visualization
Paul Namiboo: I like the surroundings too -- but I don't hear the birds now
Pila Mulligan: is your SL sound on?
    Sylectra Darwin: yes
Paul Namiboo: Stupidly, I had it turned off! Now I hear something like a red-eyed vireo!
    Sylectra Darwin: oh, not me.
Pila Mulligan: Paul said he did not hear birds
    Sylectra Darwin: lol
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    --BELL--
Pila Mulligan: there are quite a few people setting up Second Life styled worlds on their own servers these days -- since Linden Labs made their software open source -- so a university or organization could have its own virtual world, for example
Paul Namiboo: Fortunately you don't have to be bright to be here
Paul Namiboo: I'm not sure that Doug and my Univ isn't already virtual -- you should meet some of our colleagues
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Pila Mulligan: are they translucent?
    Paul Namiboo: More analog
Paul Namiboo: Do you ever get intruders (nasty) here?
Pila Mulligan: Threedee has set up several virtual world servers
    Pila Mulligan: smoetimes yes
Pila Mulligan: they can be ejected
Pila Mulligan: tosses them out past the boundary of this area
Paul Namiboo: If our group bought some land, could we easily get a setup like this?
Pila Mulligan: sure, especially wiht help :)
Pila Mulligan: like Storm or Ade
Pila Mulligan: they have a lot of setting up expereince
Paul Namiboo: Doug and I are working on them, but an amazing proportion of them seem technophobic
Pila Mulligan: yes, and this is really just a cartoon :)
Pila Mulligan: but it is fun
Paul Namiboo: But it is also amazing how real it seems. I'm interested in issues of affiliation and empathy, and I'm really surprised how easy it seems here (and I'm not shy).
Pila Mulligan: the cartoon fantasy element is part of the strenght
Sylectra Darwin: IT can seem really complex; you just have to jump in and get comfy with it.
Paul Namiboo: Anyone know what that "sprong" noise was?
Pila Mulligan: as you mentioned earlier, the venue is free of some prejudicial signals that may otherwise affect relationships
Pila Mulligan: my pseakers are off
Pila Mulligan: maybe it was spring in the osuthern hemisphere
    Paul Namiboo: Let's hope
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Sylectra Darwin: yes indeedy.
Pila Mulligan: when you have 30 poeple in a SL conference it still takes some organizing to keep it coherent
Paul Namiboo: When you meet someone in SL and then in RL, is it a shock?
Pila Mulligan: lots of stray chat lines
Pila Mulligan: Syl, you're the epxert there
Paul Namiboo: We're looking to 8-12 ideally -- a core group
Pila Mulligan: I've never met an SL freind in RL
Pila Mulligan: 8-12 should be easier
Paul Namiboo: Have either of you gone to a big event? Lecture, say?
Sylectra Darwin: I am never surprised, if I have taken the time to know someone in chat first.
Sylectra Darwin: They are the same person - you have to look past the physical package.
Pila Mulligan: the meat perosn, as Wol says
Pila Mulligan: yes, Kira has had some big events I've attended
Pila Mulligan: they work pretty well
Paul Namiboo: I'll have to learn to run my avatar beter first -- I'd step on people
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Pila Mulligan: it doesn't hurt
    Sylectra Darwin: we don't care.
    Sylectra Darwin: it's fun.
Paul Namiboo: You guys have been very helpful. My RL "starter" wife (of 55 years) want to eat dinner!
Pila Mulligan: sounds like you guys have to plan a long future together
Pila Mulligan: have a nice dinner
    Sylectra Darwin: enjoy your meal.
Pila Mulligan: since she still is a starter after 55 years that is
Paul Namiboo: Thanks -- she's the best thing that ever happened to me -- I'm trying to lure her onto SL. Have a great evening or night -- and Thanks
    Pila Mulligan: :) aloha Paul
    Paul Namiboo: aloha
    Pila Mulligan: hi jojo
    Sylectra Darwin: hello Jojo
    Pila Mulligan: welcome
    --BELL--
    Pila Mulligan: chatting
Pila Mulligan: Sylectra is the Guardian tonite for this place, she can tell you more about the meetings here
Sylectra Darwin: This is Play as Being, a discussion group about meditation.
Sylectra Darwin: (and other nice topics)
Sylectra Darwin: We record meetings here, is it okay with you if we save the chat log for posting to our wiki?
Pila Mulligan: really quite old -- over 60
    Pila Mulligan: nice age
Pila Mulligan: did you see Syl's quesiton about the chat logs and wiki
    Pila Mulligan: ?
Sylectra Darwin: jojo, is it okay to save the chat log with your comments?
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: you can see past session logs here - http://playasbeing.wik.is/Chat_Logs/2009
Sylectra Darwin: We post the chats to http://playasbeing.wik.is/
Pila Mulligan: did yu mean no you did not see the quesiton or no you do not want to be in the chat log?
Pila Mulligan: complicated start here, we need permission to include people in the wiki
Sylectra Darwin: It's okay, I will remove her from the log when I post it.
Sylectra Darwin: So Pila, what are you up to?
Pila Mulligan: oh, thoday was kind of a busy mix of work and mundane stuff Syl
    Pila Mulligan: today*
    Sylectra Darwin: ah yes.
    Pila Mulligan: how about yourself?
Sylectra Darwin: I like thoday, it's somehow more pithy.
    Sylectra Darwin: lol
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Sylectra Darwin: It's the second to last day of my job at lexisNexis.
Pila Mulligan: oh, is that good?
Sylectra Darwin: No longer shall I slave for law firm sites.
    Pila Mulligan: cool
Sylectra Darwin: lol, actually some of the lawyers are really sweet.
Pila Mulligan: unfortunatley I still do
    Pila Mulligan: the rare ones
Sylectra Darwin: IT's just hectic training replacements.
    Sylectra Darwin: yeah
Pila Mulligan: I've always used Westlaw, but I'm going to start trying free sites more
Sylectra Darwin: I remember you work with them too.
Pila Mulligan: I'm trying to be retired but cannot escpae them
    Sylectra Darwin: haha
    Sylectra Darwin: that's awful.
Sylectra Darwin: Can you be retired in a more fun way?
Pila Mulligan: most of the lawyers I work with are fortunately pleasant enough to work with
Pila Mulligan: I'm getting there, gradually (to being retired that is)
Sylectra Darwin: I want to retire now.
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Sylectra Darwin: but with no 401K, that's not a likely prospect for a looooooong time
Pila Mulligan: yep, getting social security retimement benefits means a world of difference for me
    Sylectra Darwin: Good.
Sylectra Darwin: I doubt it will help me.
Pila Mulligan: while it lasts anyway :)
Sylectra Darwin: sorry, Pila, I am so worn out.
Sylectra Darwin: They have me training three people and it's a tug of war.
Pila Mulligan: well, let's call it a night then :)
Sylectra Darwin: OK, I think our guest has gone to sleep anyway.
Pila Mulligan: so it seems :)
Pila Mulligan: aloha Sylectra, sleep well
Sylectra Darwin: aloha Pila, you too
