    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Scathach :)
    Scathach Rhiadra: Hello sophiaSharon:)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: How are you?
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Pila
Scathach Rhiadra: fine thank you, and you?
    Scathach Rhiadra: Hello pila
Pila Mulligan: hi SophiaSharon and Scathach
SophiaSharon Larnia: great! I can't wait to hear more about the retreeat, I beleive people are home or getting back now :)
    Scathach Rhiadra: :)
Pila Mulligan: yes will we lucky enough to have one :)
    Pila Mulligan: ?
SophiaSharon Larnia: I most certainly hope so, anywhere is ok with me, it would be fun to have to travel to it, or have it close
Pila Mulligan: it is kind of like a PaB Hajj
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Eliza
    Pila Mulligan: hi Eliza
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :) Pila
    Scathach Rhiadra: Hello Eliza
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Pila, Scath, SophiaSharon :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: oooh Eliza you look so pretty
    Eliza Madrigal: Thanks :)
Eliza Madrigal: Figured I'd better wear shorts before summer is over...haha
    Pila Mulligan: :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes I know what you mean ;p
Pila Mulligan: we are waiting for a pilgrim
    SophiaSharon Larnia: A pilgrim?
    Pila Mulligan: from The Retreat
    SophiaSharon Larnia: ah
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
SophiaSharon Larnia: There are huge wildfires near LA in Cali and I thought them a lot, wondering if it affected them at all, my sister is near the fires
Scathach Rhiadra: not too close I hope
Pila Mulligan: that oculd be worrisime indeed
Eliza Madrigal: yes good question. Storm only mentioned the heat in general...
SophiaSharon Larnia: well, my sister and hers are getting ash in the sky
    Eliza Madrigal: Ah, not good.
    Eliza Madrigal: Everyone well otherwise?
    Pila Mulligan: yes, thanks Eliza
    Pila Mulligan: hi Adams
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Adams :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Adams :)
    Scathach Rhiadra: yes ty eliza
    Scathach Rhiadra: Hello Adams
Adams Rubble: Hello Eliza, Sophia, Scath and Pila :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: I do have a general question I've been thinking about, if no one minds :)
    Pila Mulligan: please ...
    Eliza Madrigal: yes please :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: What is the difference between detachment and disinterest?
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Pila Mulligan: good question SophiaSharon
    Pila Mulligan: cmopassion
SophiaSharon Larnia: they seem to be diametrically opposed, but when you think on them, they are not that different
    SophiaSharon Larnia: yes Scath
    Scathach Rhiadra: ?
SophiaSharon Larnia: o9opps I meant Pila : yes to what he said, my mistake
Pila Mulligan: each implies some objectivity, but indifference is more likely to be without compassion
Scathach Rhiadra: disinterest seems like a kind of aversion
    Pila Mulligan: a rejection?
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Catharina
Scathach Rhiadra: yes, turning away from
    Adams Rubble: Hello Catharina :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Catharina :)
    Adams Rubble: Hello Qt :)
    Pila Mulligan: hi Catharina
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Qt
    Qt Core: Hi all
    Pila Mulligan: hi QT
Eliza Madrigal: There are so many of these words that we use that seem to have common definitions, and then another kind... like detachment
    Scathach Rhiadra: Hello catharina, Qt
SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Catharina, this is a play as Being group, have you been here before?
Eliza Madrigal: detachment could imply distace... but at one level
    Eliza Madrigal: *distance
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Qt

    --BELL--

    SophiaSharon Larnia: ok Catharina
Eliza Madrigal: It could mean making room, too...making room for a more 'true' interest?
Pila Mulligan: [dago te is hello in the Apache language]
    SophiaSharon Larnia: ah Pila Thanks!
    Scathach Rhiadra: remaining apart from
    Eliza Madrigal: ah, Interesting Pila
Pila Mulligan: an Apache aloha :)
Eliza Madrigal: I've heard people make a distinction between unattachment and detachment
SophiaSharon Larnia: working with detachment from emotional aspects has brought this up for me, in the sense of feeling disinterest, I don't think this is the right tact to take
Pila Mulligan: maybe if we think of detachment in relation to attachment it has an easier menaing
Pila Mulligan: not disinterest, just not grasping
Scathach Rhiadra: mmm, would it be a more 'observer' role, ned not be disinterested
    Pila Mulligan: yes
Eliza Madrigal nods...yes letting go of hope for a particular result
    Scathach Rhiadra: need*
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes the need to be so interested, which I ultimately feel
    Eliza Madrigal: Hm
Pila Mulligan: conscious awarness is probably never really invaluable
Pila Mulligan: ah, double negatives :)
    Scathach Rhiadra: :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
Eliza Madrigal: Sometimes emotion can get in the way of seeing clearly
    SophiaSharon Larnia: yes
Pila Mulligan: but then, also, sometimes emotion is seeing :)
    Pila Mulligan: joy, empathy, etc
Pila Mulligan: anger for sure clouds perception
SophiaSharon Larnia: emotion is sensory arising of this body and mind
SophiaSharon Larnia: based on previous experiences etc
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Gaya
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Gaya :)
    Scathach Rhiadra: Hello Gaya:)
    Pila Mulligan: hi Gaya
    Adams Rubble: Hello gaya :)
    Gaya Ethaniel: Hello :)
Eliza Madrigal: Emotion seems to me something great if coming from a clear place... but that would necessitate not grasping? hehe
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Scathach Rhiadra nods
Pila Mulligan: well, the People in Shorts have been outnumbered now
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hehe
    Eliza Madrigal giggles
    Gaya Ethaniel: ah :)
Pila Mulligan: or am I mistaken Gaya, is that a skirt?
SophiaSharon Larnia: Ive asked several people, and what stuck with me is the idea that disinterest is judgemental
Gaya Ethaniel: Skirt, short ... it's definitely not too long :P
    Eliza Madrigal: Ahhh, yes
Pila Mulligan: well, maybe we are half-half then :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
    Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Pila Mulligan: disinterest as a judgement makes sense
Pila Mulligan: as a distinction from detachment
Eliza Madrigal: yes, the aversion Scath mentioned
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Hi Yakuzza
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Yakuzza :)
    Pila Mulligan: hi Yak
    Scathach Rhiadra: Hello Yakuzza
    Adams Rubble: Hello Yakuzza :)
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey everyone
    Gaya Ethaniel: Hello Yakuzza :)
Eliza Madrigal: Go and come back with shorts on, Ya.. hehe
    Eliza Madrigal: (kidding)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: laughs
    Scathach Rhiadra: :)
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Pila Mulligan: keeping count
Pila Mulligan: topic: the difference between detachment and disinterest (and shorts:)
    Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Pila Mulligan: and waiting for news from a retreat participant
SophiaSharon Larnia: news from the beyond :p
Eliza Madrigal: they are prob sleeping for days... I prob would be
    Eliza Madrigal: haha Sophia
    Pila Mulligan: yep
Scathach Rhiadra: yes thay are strangely silent!
Gaya Ethaniel: I saw doug and Eos at 7 am today.
    Scathach Rhiadra: they*
Eliza Madrigal: Ohhh, at the session Gaya?
Gaya Ethaniel nods. I posted the log.
Scathach Rhiadra: did they say much?
Gaya Ethaniel: They enjoyed a lot I think :)

    --BELL--

Scathach Rhiadra: sorry, will read the log:)
Gaya Ethaniel: And said something about retreat every 4 months ... beginning with Europe in Jan or Feb. Didn't get much more details.
    Adams Rubble dreams of Roma
SophiaSharon Larnia: every 4 months! Wow, it must have been fun
    Gaya Ethaniel: :D
Scathach Rhiadra: hmmm, the depth of Winter in Europe
    Gaya Ethaniel: Canary Island? :PPP
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes, maybe change the location depending on the season, like migrating birds.
Scathach Rhiadra: ah southern Europe, of course!
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: Which would make it possible for one to spill into another, in a way
Eliza Madrigal: like these sessions do often
    Pila Mulligan: Malta maybe
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes 4 months is not long
    Eliza Madrigal: not at all
Pila Mulligan: lots of travelling though
Eliza Madrigal: I'm curious to know what kinds of excercizes they did
    SophiaSharon Larnia: me too
Pila Mulligan: Doug referred several times to eating good food
Gaya Ethaniel: Apparently Pema will write up some notes about them soon.
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, great :) And to eating good food, too :)
Eliza Madrigal: I had the *best* avocado of my life this morning :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
    Eliza Madrigal: hehe
    Gaya Ethaniel: :)
    Scathach Rhiadra: :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: sometimes it is about the food, enjoyment
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Qt Core: i had great food too today at a wedding
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
    Gaya Ethaniel: :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pila Mulligan: from the earlier log:
Pila Mulligan: doug Sosa: Eos was allso there. It was tme out of time in some ways. little overhead for maintenence so we really got to be together. Eos Amaterasu: Food was great :-) Gaya Ethaniel: What did you get? :) --BELL-- Eos Amaterasu: More sessions, often several practices for sessions, meant it could go a bit deeper doug Sosa: fish, shripm, scallops, soups and salads. Healthy, tasty.
Pila Mulligan: two answers to one question :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
    SophiaSharon Larnia: smiles
Qt Core: great food, grteat place, great weather, a nice couple of friends being wedded, a great day
    Gaya Ethaniel: :D
Pila Mulligan: weddings are unique events
    SophiaSharon Larnia: sounds wonderful Qt
Eliza Madrigal: yes how nice... I've been to so many weddings... just a few that were amazing
Eliza Madrigal: and nothing predictable as to why...just the excitement of the people, Qt?
Pila Mulligan: historically weddings are like treaties, not just the couple marries but the famiilaes beceome connected
Qt Core: more a feeling of something finally going the way things should go
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: the loving energy can be palpable
Qt Core: and than , as i rarely go to weddings, being the first in years of friends and not family i choose to go and that is different from having to go
Eliza Madrigal: yes that does make a big difference :) You were really there to rejoice and celebrate :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: (will be afk for a few mins)
    Gaya Ethaniel: :)

    --BELL--

Eliza Madrigal is back to considering letting go of attachment.... and now with the added component of love/marriage in that context... a happy thing- devotion without grasping... Hmm
Gaya Ethaniel: What kind of attachment?
Scathach Rhiadra: the clinging needy kind?
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
Gaya Ethaniel: Is attachment such a bad thing? It depends I think ...
Adams Rubble quietly slips away and hopes everyone has a ncie afternoon/evening/night or whatever :)
Eliza Madrigal: that relationship context does seem to one wherein disruptive emotions can cause people trouble...
Eliza Madrigal: Bye for now Adams :)
Gaya Ethaniel: See you Adams :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: this is something I'm thinking of Gaya :)
    Scathach Rhiadra: bye Adams
    Pila Mulligan: bye Adams
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Adams :)
Pila Mulligan: attachment has been used as a word of art in contemplative practices -- it can hve many menaings though
Gaya Ethaniel: A word of art?
    Eliza Madrigal: neat :)
Pila Mulligan: a commonly used to term with a special menaing
    Gaya Ethaniel: ah :)
Pila Mulligan: like negligence for lawyers
SophiaSharon Larnia: can you say more Pila?
    Pila Mulligan: a special menaing
    Gaya Ethaniel guffaws.
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: more in what direction SophiaSharon?
SophiaSharon Larnia: in what way is detechment meant in art?
    SophiaSharon Larnia: detachment*
Pila Mulligan: in the contemplative arts ...
    Pila Mulligan: specifically
Pila Mulligan: it can refer to being excessively close to something
Pila Mulligan: desirous of it or averse to it
Pila Mulligan: but entangled with it
Pila Mulligan: and being caught up like that detracts from awareness
Pila Mulligan: sorry that is attachment
Pila Mulligan: so detachment is the converse
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
Eliza Madrigal: yes but a good way to describe attachment Pila
Gaya Ethaniel: RL calls. Have a good day/night :)
    Pila Mulligan: bye Gaya
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Gaya :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Bye Gaya :)
    Scathach Rhiadra: good night Gaya:)
    Qt Core: bye Gaya
Pila Mulligan: being indifferent to suffering would not be comparable to not having attachments
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes Pila, was thinging about detachment in a visual or other form of art, not contemplative, and thought in art of that kind, attachment is almost necessary
    Eliza Madrigal: yes!!
    Pila Mulligan: like sculpting :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: you are intimitely connected to something, when creating
    SophiaSharon Larnia: at least imo
Pila Mulligan: yep, different menaing there
    Scathach Rhiadra nods
Pila Mulligan: immersion may be a related idea in art
    SophiaSharon Larnia: yes !
Eliza Madrigal: one has to be able to stand back and really see a work of art, as they are working though... even though they are absorbed in a passionate way too
Pila Mulligan: the muse inspires and the artist dives in
Eliza Madrigal: isn't it a kind of dance?
SophiaSharon Larnia: the muse can be detached :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pila Mulligan: well, objectivity id probably an essential element in any activity, art, shoemaking, meditating, etc
Pila Mulligan: it is part of balance
    Pila Mulligan: is*
Pila Mulligan: evenif simply for the sake of safety, to aovid clumsiness
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pila Mulligan: but also for the sake of skillfulness in many cases

    --BELL--

Pila Mulligan: the Hawaiian guy doing exterior painting here at my house worked like a Zen master -- steady, accurate and very balanced -- good work and fun to watch
Scathach Rhiadra: have to go, good night all, Namasté
Eliza Madrigal: that is a pleasure, Pila... to see someone really appreciate their work
    Pila Mulligan: bye Scathach
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Bye Scathach :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Night Scath :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes Pila, in this context, i understand
Eliza Madrigal: funny little synchronistic note... an email reply about a possible project from an artist friend just now..so nice : )
    SophiaSharon Larnia: thanks :)
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: so there is a difference between detachment and disinterest, but there also could be several ways to describe those terms and their difference
Eliza Madrigal: This morning I was circling the computer waiting for a response... had to get my mind off of it and allow whatever the answer would be
Qt Core: bye all, have fun
    Eliza Madrigal: Bye Qt :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Qt :)
Pila Mulligan: bye QT -- happy a after-wedding evening
    Eliza Madrigal: So true Pila
    Qt Core: ;-)
SophiaSharon Larnia: I have to go as well, have 20 min to get out of the house, eek :))
    Eliza Madrigal: yikes !
    SophiaSharon Larnia: smiles take care
    Pila Mulligan: bye SophiaSharon
    Eliza Madrigal: Bye SophiaSharon :)
Pila Mulligan: thanks for the topic
    Eliza Madrigal: yes! :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: thank you!!
Eliza Madrigal: Yakuzza is napping maybe, giggles
Pila Mulligan: well, we did not get a retreat report, but had a nice chat
Eliza Madrigal: yes...a bit of a report from Gaya pointing to the morning log
Eliza Madrigal: Sounds very nice :)
Pila Mulligan: maybe at the next session there will be someone rested after the retrea
Eliza Madrigal: Yes, I'll try to sign on for that too
Eliza Madrigal: Time to go I guess... strange day. I never know when my grandfather will be here...
Eliza Madrigal: when I expect him he doesn't arrive...and visa versa :)
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Pila Mulligan: that sounds grandfatherly
    Pila Mulligan: unpredictabe
Eliza Madrigal: hehe...multiplied by the fact that he lives in 3 places
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Eliza Madrigal: so he may be anywhere
    Eliza Madrigal: hahaha
Pila Mulligan: well, nice to sit with you Eliza and Yak, bye for now
    Eliza Madrigal: Bye Pila :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Bye Yakuzza!
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
