The Guardian for this meeting was Pema Pera. The comments are by Pema Pera.
Doug was there already when I arrived, and Pila would soon join us.
Pema Pera: Hi Doug!Doug left, and in addition to Stevenaia, Eos was about to join us.
doug Sosa: Hi Pema. I've only got ten minutes till i get shouted at to come to dinner (and take out
doug Sosa: the trash along the way.)
Pema Pera: :-)
Pema Pera: Hi Pila!
doug Sosa: I've found lateley that just explaiint the 9 sec to people seems to get them to relax, and get it.
Pila Mulligan: hi Pema and Doug
doug Sosa: pila:)
Pema Pera: yes, isn't that amazing!
Pema Pera: it seems to be such a simple idea, that conveying it can be really done in just a few minutes
doug Sosa: I think I am close to being able to chose to do it in dreams.
Pila Mulligan: :)
Pema Pera: :)
doug Sosa: Pema still in Japan?
Pema Pera: up
Pema Pera: yup
Pema Pera: two more days
Pema Pera: then one day back home before off to MIT and Harvard
doug Sosa: Pila has had some interaction with Paul, who is just back from Copenhagen.
doug Sosa: He got the spirit of this very quickly.
Pema Pera: yes!
Pila Mulligan: yes, I thought of Pema when I heard about Pauls travelling -- you guys a road people
Pila Mulligan: are*
Pema Pera: air more than road these days :-)
Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: hi Steve
stevenaia Michinaga: hello
Pema Pera: hi there, Steve!
doug Sosa: and steve. we were just talking over at the community plots, how good it would be tohave a map showing who is who.
Pema Pera: Hi Marliss, come join us!
doug Sosa: Pila began with houses withthick roofs
stevenaia Michinaga: that ans perhaps a signpost/address
doug Sosa: but it never rained
doug Sosa: so now hiw wicker is out under the stars.
Pila Mulligan: yep
Pila Mulligan: weather seems not to be a problem
stevenaia Michinaga: and even if it did, we are all drip dry
Pila Mulligan: :)
doug Sosa: I do need to go, several cildren are being insistent (guests).
Pila Mulligan: bye Doug, have fun
Pema Pera: bye Doug!
stevenaia Michinaga: bye doug
doug Sosa: :)
Pila Mulligan: in rl, a mason came today and made a cement base for an outdoor shower, I cn't wait to use itRiddle joined us, so there were five of us, not bad for a Saturday night.
Pema Pera: you mean you now don't have to wait for the afternoon rains anymore?
Pila Mulligan: hi eos
Pema Pera: Hi Eos!
Pila Mulligan: outdoor showers are common her and I find them to be loads of fun
Eos Amaterasu: Hi Pema, Pila, Steven
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, hard to tell which plots are raken and which are empty, I suspect if we are to spread out a certain amout of synergy will be missede
Pila Mulligan: here*
stevenaia Michinaga: hell Eos
stevenaia Michinaga: but that gets more into community planning theroy
Pema Pera: good point, Steve
Pema Pera: on the other hand we are all still quite close
Eos Amaterasu: You can tell which plots are taken by looking at the menu bar when in a plot
Pila Mulligan: Storm did a nice job with setting the place up
Pema Pera: ah, yes, of course
Pila Mulligan: but you cannot tell from a distance
Eos Amaterasu: No
Pila Mulligan: some people have wished for a way to point and see and name
Pema Pera: soon you will, Pila, when people build their house
Eos Amaterasu: Not unless one flies one's flag
Pema Pera: or move it
Pila Mulligan: maybe it is impossible
Pila Mulligan: true
Pila Mulligan: it will be like any nieghborhood soon enough
stevenaia Michinaga: a series of grops of 4 could work if most were occupied and active
Pila Mulligan: hi Riddle
Pema Pera: we could set up a random number generator, and let everybody wake up each new day with his/her house on a different site!
Pema Pera: Hi Riddle!
stevenaia Michinaga: hello RIddle
Riddle Sideways: Hi all
stevenaia Michinaga: hmmm, can you tie that into "Home" locationsAnd then there were six of us.
Pila Mulligan: and call it lessons in impermanence
Riddle Sideways: ooo tha would be great
stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Pema Pera: tp your house rather than yourself
Pema Pera: I bet it is possible
Eos Amaterasu: you would always be home :-)
Riddle Sideways: or just have to look for your house each day
Pema Pera: (actually, that's how I feel traveling, as long as I have my laptop)
Pema Pera: (living out of a laptop, rather than a suitcase)
Riddle Sideways: like looking for a rental car
Pema Pera: :)
Pema Pera: ah, your home location should travel with it, Riddle
Pema Pera: I bet it could be scripted
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: Remember , that wherever you go...
Riddle Sideways: there you are
Pila Mulligan: hmm
Riddle Sideways: buckaroo Bonzi quote
Eos Amaterasu: from Thomas a Kempis, ca 1440
stevenaia Michinaga: hello Marliss
Riddle Sideways: before my time
Pila Mulligan: no relation to Thomas a Quinas
Riddle Sideways: Hi Marliss
Eos Amaterasu: :-)
Pema Pera: Hi Marliss!
Pema Pera: We get together a few times a day to chat about the nature of reality, and everything else, and we have a wiki http://playasbeing.wik.is/ -- We record our conversations there. Do you mind being included in our blogs?
Eos Amaterasu: Hello Marliss
Marliss Lane: nope
Marliss Lane: hello all
stevenaia Michinaga: thanks for joining usAlas, RL was calling and I had to leave.
Pila Mulligan: is you face invisible, Marliss -- or is it just not rezzed
Pema Pera: welcome to our group, Marliss -- and I can see your face fine :)
Pila Mulligan: ah, thaniks Pema, funnny -- no face here -- like the book cover for 'The Invisble Man'
Pema Pera: or so I thought -- in fact, I can't :-)
Pema Pera: when I zoomed in closer
Pema Pera: the hair there though
Eos Amaterasu: we do talk about emptiness here :-)
Marliss Lane: hmm had one when I sat down
Pema Pera: we have another avatar here, No Face, from Spirited away
Pila Mulligan: :)
Riddle Sideways: no loss of face here
Pema Pera: Fox's avatar
Pila Mulligan: is it Ctr-Alt-R that re-rezees an avi?
Pema Pera: Unfortunately, I'll have to leave in a minute or so
Pema Pera: it is getting close to lunch time here in Tokyo
Pema Pera: I already claimed the log, so I will post it later
stevenaia Michinaga: good to see yo again Pema
Pila Mulligan: nice to see you Pema-san, have a nice lunch
Pema Pera: same here, Steve!
Pema Pera: thanks, Pila!
Pema Pera: And Steve, I'm working on getting you relieved of one of your two weekly slots
stevenaia Michinaga: Marliss is wrapped in a web browser
Riddle Sideways: bye Pema
stevenaia Michinaga: thanks for your efforts, been reading
Eos Amaterasu: bye pema
Pema Pera: it will be just a question of figuring out the musical chairs game . . . .
Eos Amaterasu: Media no identity man
stevenaia Michinaga: I'm sure there is an application for figuring that out
Eos Amaterasu: the inbetween spaces will also develop
Pema Pera: sure, but whether it will actually save time is not clear
Pema Pera: unless everybody learns the new application and actually uses it ;-)
Pema Pera: bye for now!
Pila Mulligan: bye
Riddle Sideways: bye
Riddle Sideways: if we had browser wrapped around us...
Riddle Sideways: the answer might be behind our knees
Eos Amaterasu: we kind of already do
stevenaia Michinaga: Storm does an amazing job here and we should see how things work out community planning wise over time, I suspect we can eventually play musical plots and fill in any inconvenient voide in the landscape
Pila Mulligan: when the mason finished the rl cement work here today, he took some fern leaves and pressed them into the cement surface, a few hours later I lifted them off and they had left an artistic imprint in the cement
stevenaia Michinaga: he seems to do that alot, Pila
Pila Mulligan: yes, it is kind of his signature art
--BELL--
Pila Mulligan: there seem to be alot of empty village plots, so maybe some consilidation would help, or maybe people like it less crowded
Riddle Sideways: we have our baby's foot print in the corner of the driveway cement
Pila Mulligan: :)
Riddle Sideways: maybe Storm left a baby foot print on the sidewalk
Eos Amaterasu: I think a lot of people are in that other area....
Riddle Sideways: I started submiting my development plans to the planning commision
Riddle Sideways: and they have not called back :)
Pila Mulligan: for a house, Riddle?
stevenaia Michinaga: there's an SL planning commission...grins
Riddle Sideways: a house maybe, a lawn chair, maybe just cushions
Pila Mulligan: a house seems almost superflous here
stevenaia Michinaga: Depending where you are, they will ahve to respond before a state mandated time period by law
Pila Mulligan: the chairs and cushions do mnot, however, they are practical
Riddle Sideways: I was thinking 6 tatomi and a flamingo
Riddle Sideways: but the neighborhood assoc might not like
Pila Mulligan: hmm, 6 mats = 9 x 12'
Riddle Sideways: Adams and Maxine are my neighbors , they might expect better?
Pila Mulligan: it sunds llovely to me Riddle, thjey may enjoy it
Pila Mulligan: Iu'm on the opposite side of Maxine, btw
stevenaia Michinaga: I don;t thnk this is about competing with the Adam's
Pila Mulligan: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: or keeping up with the Pila's
Pila Mulligan: and you are right across the frog pond from Eliza for whom the flmaingo is most menaingful
Riddle Sideways: there are soooo many Adams' to fit in the one plot :)
stevenaia Michinaga: I am cluless about building and just populated the lot with comfy inventory
Pila Mulligan: same her
Pila Mulligan: here*
stevenaia Michinaga: does she get many plots for each Adams?
Riddle Sideways: wish I knew building good enough to have several that I could rez due to my mood
Eos Amaterasu: buildings with hormones
stevenaia Michinaga: like a live-in mood ring house
Riddle Sideways: box up one house and unbox another
Pila Mulligan: it seems doable
stevenaia Michinaga: perhaps a room to reflet each mood
Eos Amaterasu: rooms can shape states of being
Eos Amaterasu: and you shape the room
Pila Mulligan: however the plots are kind of small flr houses, so maybe you could do differetn outdoor decors
Riddle Sideways: and ... states of being can shape rooms :)
Eos Amaterasu: eventually the in-between squares will hold the plots
Eos Amaterasu: together
Eos Amaterasu: teleportation with temporary structures
Pila Mulligan: that was smart planning by Storm, making buildable courtyards
Eos Amaterasu: a pattern language: a timeless way of building (Christopher Alexander)
stevenaia Michinaga: nods
stevenaia Michinaga: must be a way to rezz the book here, I've seen it done
--BELL--
Eos Amaterasu: Storm has created a grid, within which biology and society can have its way
stevenaia Michinaga: http://www.patternlanguage.com/
Eos Amaterasu: think about this: it is the 9 seconds that is the binding factor
Pila Mulligan: of the village?
Eos Amaterasu: of here and of the village
Pila Mulligan: yep
Eos Amaterasu: interesting place/peoople to experiment with how to be...
Pila Mulligan: although many people do not do them, so it is at least the 90 second here
Eos Amaterasu: I mean, we could have a tower where every 15 minutes someone calls out that it's time for the 9 secs!
Pila Mulligan: :)
Eos Amaterasu: Or more subtle expressions
Eos Amaterasu: Where's your plot, Stevenaia?
stevenaia Michinaga: with the fountains and the tent
stevenaia Michinaga: where?, no address
Pila Mulligan: 410
Pila Mulligan: elm
Pila Mulligan: st
Eos Amaterasu: Pila is at 42 Wu Way
Pila Mulligan: :0
Pila Mulligan: I like the muezzin idea too
Eos Amaterasu: An active environment, that participates with us
Eos Amaterasu: Scripts imbued with the 3 laws of robotics
stevenaia Michinaga: I must go, thanks
Pila Mulligan: bye Steve
Eos Amaterasu: Bye Steve
Riddle Sideways: I nee to go too, TY
Pila Mulligan: bye Riddle
Riddle Sideways: and Bye
Eos Amaterasu: bye Sideways!
Pila Mulligan: is the weather getting cooler there Eos?
Eos Amaterasu: we've gone pretty rapidly from summer to feeling-like-that -long-cold-Nova-Scotia -winter
Eos Amaterasu: However, there's 2 more months of glory
Pila Mulligan: I rememebr some places on the mainland where even September was pretty warm
Eos Amaterasu: we'll go up to Cape Breton for Canadian Thanksgiving (2nd weekend in Oct)
Pila Mulligan: I've strated to notioce cooler ights here
Pila Mulligan: :)
Eos Amaterasu: there's forst warnings here at night
Eos Amaterasu: but my little forest plot here is just fine
Eos Amaterasu: (maybe I shoiuld add some early morning frost)
Pila Mulligan: I imagine it is as fine in winter as any season
Eos Amaterasu: the village is an interesting experiment
Eos Amaterasu: I think there is a contingent of guardians on that sim....
Eos Amaterasu: who are not in the village, at least not yet
Pila Mulligan: it is -- you may have heard me mention that I was part of a previous village experiment in SL an dit worked out okay
Pila Mulligan: it is complementary to the whole venue
Pila Mulligan: especially, as you noticed, the shared PaB adventure
Pila Mulligan: the previous vilage I menotned was also associated with achat group her
Eos Amaterasu: I guess these are "intentional communities"
Pila Mulligan: yes
Pila Mulligan: ntentional virtual communites
--BELL--
Pila Mulligan: with far fewer risks than RL commitments, of course, and an interesting potential for advancing the group's evolution -- to whatevers
Eos Amaterasu: Time is the same, RL/SL
Eos Amaterasu: to whatevers, yes
Pila Mulligan: the previous group I referred to kind of shook itself apart -- affimring my feeling that SL was unavoidably a shallow place -- now PaB has caused me to revise that feeling -- I'm not sure what potnetial SL has
Eos Amaterasu: that is the question
Pila Mulligan: this evolving group is startling sometimes in its creativity
Eos Amaterasu: well, there's new experimentation stations
Pila Mulligan: in SL? what are they?
Eos Amaterasu: the village
Pila Mulligan: or are you referring to us :)
Pila Mulligan: ahh :)
Pila Mulligan: yes
Pila Mulligan: a lab
Pila Mulligan: I had not thought about it as such
Pila Mulligan: I think about it more as a growing plant
Eos Amaterasu: within some basic constrainsts, we have the freedom to create whatever type of society we want
Pila Mulligan: true
Pila Mulligan: however, we have some additional ingredients that are more or les sunprecedented
Pila Mulligan: unprecedented*
Pila Mulligan: as far as I can tell
Eos Amaterasu: it is cellular - each plot is like a cell
Pila Mulligan: :)
Eos Amaterasu: the in-between squares
Eos Amaterasu: and the corridors between plots, along boundaries
Eos Amaterasu: those are the communcation media
Eos Amaterasu: however, the village is I think starting out without many of the most active PaBers
Pila Mulligan: yes, it is
Eos Amaterasu: mabye we should set up teleport locations so we can visit :-)
Pila Mulligan: they are alreayd available
Pila Mulligan: that was part of Storm's check list for new plots
Pila Mulligan: where to put the teleport
Eos Amaterasu: Oh, I meant public teleports, in public locations (like near a pub :-)
Pila Mulligan: you are thinking like an apartment directory maybe?
Pila Mulligan: yes, or like an elvevator lobby
Eos Amaterasu: no, a shared publicc square
Eos Amaterasu: one side in one sim, another in another
Pila Mulligan: that, by the way, was one popular element of the prevous village -- a pub :)
Eos Amaterasu: Storm put his tavern up nearby
Pila Mulligan: pardon my density, but what is the secon sim, besides Bieup?
Pila Mulligan: aren't all the plots here?
Eos Amaterasu: I don't remember the name - you mean where Corvi and people are?
Pila Mulligan: oh, the beach plots
Pila Mulligan: yes, Corvi and Wol, and tehy also have plots here
Pila Mulligan: yes, if the beach plots continue a teleport would be nice
Eos Amaterasu: Oh
Pila Mulligan: the beach plots are the ones going private
Eos Amaterasu: Yes, so we could go to the beach :-)
Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: have you seen them?
--BELL--
Pila Mulligan: at Mugunghwa
Eos Amaterasu: Will check that out, but not tonight - goodnight, Pila, nice talking with you
Pila Mulligan: same here Eos, bye
