Pila Mulligan: a question for Eos: many Hawaiians tend to identify more with Hawaii as a place on to itself than as a part of the US-- do Nova Scotians have a similar attitude toward Canada?

doug Sosa: I thought nova scotia was a suburb of edinburg

Pila Mulligan: there is a romanticized idea here that Hawaii is still an independent state
Eos Amaterasu: Nova Scotians tend to have strong sense of place

doug Sosa: I grew up on another island, smaller..
Eos Amaterasu: in Canadian vocabulary "nation", "people", "confederation" all dance around each other
doug Sosa: Manhattan..
Eos Amaterasu: as well as "multiculturalism"
doug Sosa: and it is still maybe the only real place for me.
Pila Mulligan: you can take Doug out of the City, but ...
Pila Mulligan: you can't take the City out of Doug
Paradise Tennant: and in Quebec.. boils over in a massive teenage tantrum about every 15 years :)

doug Sosa: you know, it is central park, the two rivers, the squalls blowing through..
Paradise Tennant: Manhattan  has a real energy to it .. you feel it as soon as your plane lands
Pila Mulligan: and those big buildings ...
Pila Mulligan: I felt like it had a roof my first time there
Eos Amaterasu: the energy of the people
Pila Mulligan: the upper part seemed to congeal
Eos Amaterasu: the sidewalks, the subway, the parks
doug Sosa: yes, the energy is amazing, I always thought of it as alligator city - people devour each other by looking.

doug Sosa: to me the place wherever I am in the 9 sec
doug Sosa: looses its conventional meaning and I find my self surrounded by very interesting things, each with their own dignity.
Eos Amaterasu thinks, is the 90 secs over?
Eos Amaterasu: So, how was sense of place in the 90 secs?
 Paradise Tennant: hmm think much the same thing .. but more as a sense of balanced inner space/place which is consistent regardless of surrounding location
Eos Amaterasu: wherever you are there you area?
 Paradise Tennant: though the surrounding location ..sometimes .. is a big big big part of being
Paradise Tennant: :)) yes

doug Sosa: tricky in sl because in the 9 sec there are two places.. sl and rl.
doug Sosa: really complex, can’t sort out my experience.
Eos Amaterasu: yes, sense of two places
Paradise Tennant: yes
Eos Amaterasu: at least two
doug Sosa: others?
Eos Amaterasu: I'm finding that there's a play between SL and RL
Paradise Tennant: yes
Eos Amaterasu: there's gradations of mental/emotional/intentional worlds I live in
doug Sosa: I find it easier to do the 9 sec in rl than sl. sl keeps the digital edges, can't get away from them.
Pila Mulligan: back and reading ...
Eos Amaterasu: can you say more about digital edges?
doug Sosa: no, it’s that in sl the cushion is - a cushion - but in rl a cushion is so many things.
Eos Amaterasu: hmm.... cigar?
doug Sosa: "sometimes a cushion is just a cushion..". but in rl no.
 Paradise Tennant: :)
Eos Amaterasu: there's tangibility of its "touchture", in RL
Paradise Tennant: a cushion could be the reports still un read .. laundry ..unfolded .. depends kind of where you like to sit :)
Eos Amaterasu: maybe more life and death tangibility
doug Sosa: so for example (I am gang to embarrass my self), paradise knows I have a crush on her avatar, but if I drop the appearance, nothing, just vacuum. but in rl if I dropped the concepts about a person, more, not less, emerges.
Eos Amaterasu: double hmm....
 Paradise Tennant: well .. there is more presence in rl
Pila Mulligan: I think there is a substantial difference in the 9 second vs. 90 second practices -- especially since the 90 second pause is part of a PaB session

Paradise Tennant: in a way .. sl is a dropping of concepts hiya bene :)
doug Sosa: the 9 sec for me is always a real adventure. the 90 sec is just a refreshing pause.
Eos Amaterasu: Pila, can we explore that thought, the next 90 secs?
doug Sosa: the difference between contemplative and meditative. where the 9 sec is meditative.
Pila Mulligan: they are both balancing exercise, but in much different settings
Eos Amaterasu: Is it that in the 90 secs there's time to get bored?
 Paradise Tennant: more time to breathe
doug Sosa: god, yes.
Paradise Tennant: nine secs is really only one breath
Eos Amaterasu: so every breath you take
doug Sosa: and in rl if we drop concepts we get more reality. in sl objects are just their concept 9digital) nothing more.
Eos Amaterasu: PaB will be watching you :-)
Paradise Tennant: in rl if we drop preconceptions and allow reality to emerge we get more ... reality
Eos Amaterasu: But Doug, if  Paradise  changed her avatar, how would you feel?
 Paradise Tennant: it would work the same in sl

Paradise Tennant: kind of think our shape ..bodies .. are really only the current set of wheels .. sometimes you need to glance over your shoulder and blink at how many sets there have been

doug Sosa: so when we look at an avatar, I have one in mind, do we not incarnate them? And do we not try to live, outside SL u=live up to the promise of our avatar?
Pila Mulligan: SL is a fantasy form of incarnation, if I may be so bold
Benedizione Vita: actually doug I read about effects of SL on RL
doug Sosa: I think this is getting at some very important truth about SL.
Benedizione Vita: there can be RL personality changes based on SL training
Benedizione Vita: egg tall people tend to drive harder bargains in business
Benedizione Vita: if people have tall avatars, then they tend to drive harder bargains in RL business, regardless of how tall they may be in RL ;^)
Eos Amaterasu: incarnation matters
Benedizione Vita: it can be a kind of training
doug Sosa: bene is their a study? sounds like there is data.
Benedizione Vita: yeah, there was a study
Benedizione Vita: I don't remember it, though, it's been a couple years since I read it
Pila Mulligan: well, I've always felt a rl sense of the presence of the characters in novels I read
Eos Amaterasu: that's part of the idea of diety ("yidam") practice in Buddhism, that you identify with an image of your best potential enlightened self
doug Sosa: I know that I am more direct in rl because second life kind of encourages it and it works.
Eos Amaterasu: and realize it as your actuality
Paradise Tennant: yes me too ..always wanted to cook whatever they were eating ..lol
Benedizione Vita: I hear you there Pila, after I watch a bond film, for example, I can definitely feel the effect ;^)

Paradise Tennant: yes listened to a good talk by dongsar rinpoche on monday night .. he described how we can define .. nondualism .. by it not being dualism but we are hard pressed to describe the qualities of nondualism because it is literally beyond our senses
doug Sosa: what did you find? (I was too lazy - or caught up).
doug Sosa: that was asking about shumann resonsnance..

Eos Amaterasu: standing waves around earth caused by lightning, at frequencies close to theta - alpha brainwave range
Pila Mulligan: observing lightening as fluctuation of the ionosphere using Schumann resonance

doug Sosa: dualism to me is when there is an out there and an in here. It avoids sensory experience. sensory experience - as experience - is not dualistic. No?
Eos Amaterasu: the body of the whole earth is Buddha :-)

Pila Mulligan: dualism is a mental construct
Eos Amaterasu: pragmatically, dualism can appear as hesitation
Eos Amaterasu: or "the if"
Eos Amaterasu: as opposed to , "that!"
Pila Mulligan: but mental constructs are the foundation of science and technology
Eos Amaterasu: they are not other than non-duality
Pila Mulligan: e.g., positive and negative energy charges
Eos Amaterasu: or non-duality is not so dualistic as to be separate from thoughts!
