The Guardian for this meeting was Maxine Walden. The comments are by Maxine Walden.
This session involved some multi-tasking as it were: the score of the Olympic gold medal ice hockey game being reported as the game progressed. But the atmosphere of several simultaneous worlds of experience also threaded its way through the session.
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey maxine
Maxine Walden: hi,Yaku
Yakuzza Lethecus: how are you
Maxine Walden: fine, how are you?
Yakuzza Lethecus: fine, thx
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey bolo
Bolonath Crystal: namaste :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: and hey liza :)
Maxine Walden: hi, Bolo, and Liza
Liza Deischer: hi everyone
Maxine Walden: hi, Eos
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey eos
Eos Amaterasu: Hi Gang
Liza Deischer: hi eos
Yakuzza Lethecus: :)
Maxine Walden: the PaB gang...
Eos Amaterasu: I'm at "the hub halifax", with the Canad-USA game projected on the wall - nerds and social activists and children here
Maxine Walden: ah, who is winning?
Yakuzza Lethecus: *tries to imagine pema in the ,,gangleader schema" *
Eos Amaterasu: Canada 1 -0
Eos Amaterasu: play as gangsta
Bolonath Crystal: what game? icehockey?
Maxine Walden: :)) Yaku
Eos Amaterasu: Ice Hockey, yes
Maxine Walden: also, Eos, :)) for Canada
Bolonath Crystal: ah thx
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey bleu
Liza Deischer: hi bleu
Bleu Oleander: hi everybody
Bolonath Crystal: namaste bleu
Maxine Walden: Eos, you are in two worlds right now, PaB and the 'great game' of hockey
Maxine Walden: hi, Bleu
Eos Amaterasu: Yes, thought it would be a fun place to be
Maxine Walden: please tell us as it goes, how it is to be in these two worlds, with the excitement of the gold medal game all around you
Eos Amaterasu: :-)
Eos Amaterasu: Btw, that was a great guardian session today: http://playasbeing.wik.is/Chat_Logs/2010/02/2010.02.28_08%3a00_-_Guardian_Session%3a_Everything_Totally_Without_Reservations
Yakuzza Lethecus: no strange view´s over ur shoulder, eos ? :)
Eos Amaterasu: Heh heh
Maxine Walden: yes, i was, wasn't it Eos, a great guardian meeting.
Yakuzza Lethecus: i was on lia´s and her boyfriends birthday party yesterday and SL was definetivly percieved as kinda strange :)
Maxine Walden: oh, Yaku?
Bleu Oleander: sorry I had to miss the meeting this am .... had a rl meeting :)
Bolonath Crystal: well, isn't it? *g*
Maxine Walden: I think the log will convey the gist very well, Bleu
Bleu Oleander: thanks
Maxine Walden: guess it is , Bol, strange depending on one's perspective; to someone totally unfamiliar with SL it would seem rather 'far out'
Liza Deischer: thanks, I check it out later
Bolonath Crystal: yes, i'm still keeping some of this unfamiliarity
Liza Deischer: wrong window sorry
Eos Amaterasu: Hard to explain SL to someone who hasn't experienced that you can have as real emotional involvement with cartoon avatar body as with supposedly real bodhy
Liza Deischer: :-)
Maxine Walden: :), Liza, so many things to keep track of
Liza Deischer: yes, a few months in sl and it gets messy :-)
Maxine Walden: Agree, Eos
Maxine Walden: we may be having some griefers nearby
Indeed somehow a box with a loud screaming voice was placed at the edge of the Pavilion, and I began to try to ban it during which time it disappeared to our considerable relief.
Yakuzza Lethecus: thx
Maxine Walden: glad it worked
Bleu Oleander: very cool Maxine!
Maxine Walden: repose seems nice after that
Yakuzza Lethecus: the problem with sl is somehow when i explain my use of sl to somebody who got a strange perception of it i usually cann´t show something really interesting at once
--BELL--
Yakuzza Lethecus: for example with play as being it´s the same often the sessions aren´t very deep but sometimes and a good conversations grows and doesn´t pop up out of nowhere, so explaining and showing in order to explain my interest is kinda hard
Maxine Walden: yes, hard to convey the possible evolution of a 'good conversation' to someone unfamiliar with Pab
Maxine Walden: reminds me of how complex it may be to try to convey a subtle inner experience to someone 'outside'
Eos Amaterasu: Canada 2 - 09
Eos Amaterasu: 2 -0
Eos Amaterasu: (sorry :-)
Yakuzza Lethecus: :)
Maxine Walden: (quietly saying yeah for Canada)
Liza Deischer: :-)
Bleu Oleander: hi Steve
Maxine Walden: hi, Steve
stevenaia Michinaga: afternoon
Liza Deischer: hi steve
Bolonath Crystal: namaste steve
Maxine Walden: come join us as we do PaB and hear from Eos how the Canada-US gold medal hockey game is going
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey steven,zen
stevenaia Michinaga: who's ahead?
Maxine Walden: sort of multi-tasking here
Maxine Walden: Canada 2-0
stevenaia Michinaga: can you stream it in here?
Zen Arado: Hi all
Bolonath Crystal: namaste zen
Liza Deischer: hi zen
Zen Arado: namaste Bolonath
Maxine Walden: Eos is at a pub or place where it is being projected
Eos Amaterasu: hi zen
Maxine Walden: hi, zen
Bleu Oleander: hi zen
stevenaia Michinaga: not quite what I meant :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: you all have the beta ?
Liza Deischer: no
Maxine Walden: no
Bleu Oleander: not yet
Zen Arado: nope - emerald
Zen Arado: I heard it gives problems
Liza Deischer: it does
Liza Deischer: :-)
Eos Amaterasu: I'm using the beta
Liza Deischer: couldn't tp a friend with the beta version
Bleu Oleander: what kind of problems?
Zen Arado: don't know
Bleu Oleander: are you using it with mac or pc?
Eos Amaterasu: Mac
Liza Deischer: it is a beta version, so it might have problems
Bleu Oleander: it works OK for you Eos?
Eos Amaterasu: Haven't tried everything, but so far okay
Maxine Walden: Now I am feeling re this discussion of beta versions as unfamiliar as someone not used to SL; that 'in another world' feeling
Maxine Walden: which is OK, just relating to the feeling of 'not being in the loop'
stevenaia Michinaga: makes hockey sound comforting
Maxine Walden: haha, yes, steve
stevenaia Michinaga: and that's a streach for me
Bleu Oleander: at least easier to understand!
Eos Amaterasu doesn't usually watch hockey
Maxine Walden: hockey or beta version, Steve?
Zen Arado: beta is ust a name for an early version of new software?
stevenaia Michinaga: both
Liza Deischer: I never seem to be albe to see the puc
Maxine Walden: thanks, Zen, thought as much...
Liza Deischer: yes zen
stevenaia Michinaga: hello Wol
Bleu Oleander: hi ara
Eos Amaterasu: (must go.... bye all)
Zen Arado: Hi Ara
arabella Ella: bye Eos
Liza Deischer: (maybe Canada is loosing :-))
Maxine Walden: maybe, Liza:)
Maxine Walden: For Wol and Ara, Eos was giving us the scores for the Canada-US hockey game in play right now
--BELL--
Wol Euler grins.
stevenaia Michinaga: ok, US is up one in the 2nd, quarter, but I think there are only 3 quarters
arabella Ella: on nooooo not hockey!
Liza Deischer: wb yaku
stevenaia Michinaga: lol
Wol Euler: I don't think you can call the "quarters" if there are only three...
stevenaia Michinaga: bad timing on my part, pls excuse
Liza Deischer: :-)
Zen Arado: does not compute :)
Maxine Walden: I can see the name of this chatlog: 90 sec pause for gold medal hockey
stevenaia Michinaga: awww, they are called periods
arabella Ella wonders why Canadians are so fanatical where ice hockey is concerned it is so ... barbarian!
stevenaia Michinaga: say no more
stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: maybe canadian´s are babarians :)
Wol Euler: says the woman whose countrymen shoot anything larger than a mosquito
Liza Deischer: or just the opposit
arabella Ella: Wolllll .... pleeeese!
stevenaia Michinaga: lol
Zen Arado: thought it was quite a skilful game tho I know little about it
stevenaia Michinaga: not sure those are bragging rights anyone would want
arabella Ella: I would never justify killing but other countries have much worse 'habits' including some civilized countries
Maxine Walden: I can see we are sort of in a playful 'contesting' mood today; sort of shooting a puck around among us
Wol Euler: hello widget
Widget Whiteberry: Hello - sorry to be late
Widget Whiteberry: Has Eos left or crashed?
stevenaia Michinaga: welcome Widget, come save us from ourselves
Widget Whiteberry: lol
Maxine Walden: left us, Widget
Widget Whiteberry: but I'm toooo smallllll
Yakuzza Lethecus: he just left, but his icehockey topic is still with us :)
Maxine Walden: and the puck is being shot around among us, it seems
Liza Deischer: talking about viruality and reality :-)
Widget Whiteberry: and the puck is a metaphor for virtuality and 'reality'?
stevenaia Michinaga: let's be the poor puck for a moment
Liza Deischer: no, sorry
Liza Deischer: ouch steve
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, there is no gold for the puck
Zen Arado: scared to type 'puck' :)
arabella Ella: ehrm ... what is a puck? I only know of Puck in Shakespeare?
Bleu Oleander: :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: play as being a puck :)
Maxine Walden: :)
Bleu Oleander: puck as being
Maxine Walden: :)) Bleu
Bolonath Crystal: i never knew shakespeare wrote about icehockey ;)
stevenaia Michinaga: it;s a hard flat rubber cylinder that you hit with the hockey stick on the ice
Liza Deischer: that thing you never can find in a ice-hokey game :-)
arabella Ella: well he wrote about Puck
Maxine Walden: Playing with Puck, we are
arabella Ella: Midsummer Nights Dream
stevenaia Michinaga: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puck_(sports)
Zen Arado: was a playful character too ?
arabella Ella: yes
Maxine Walden: Puck the Magic Dragon?
arabella Ella: thanks Steve new word for me
Zen Arado: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: just don;t mis-spell it
arabella Ella: obviously we don't have ice hockey here
Maxine Walden: wonder what our experiences will be in the next 90 sec pause
Zen Arado: it's a verb too
Zen Arado: to pucker
Zen Arado: lips usually
arabella Ella: oh yes the italians with goldfish lips do it all the time on TV
Zen Arado: I can't do it tho :(
Zen Arado: but I get by :)
Maxine Walden: :)
Widget Whiteberry: Is there a 2 hr meeting today or did I miss that?
Wol Euler: that was yesterday
Widget Whiteberry: lol
Wol Euler: sorry to say
Widget Whiteberry: so now we are blowing off steam?
arabella Ella: apologies for having missed it
arabella Ella: how was it Wol and Yaku?
Maxine Walden: yes, I am looking forward to reading the log of yesterday
arabella Ella: hope it went well
Yakuzza Lethecus: i was only there for an hour
arabella Ella: ah
Yakuzza Lethecus: i wasn´t really present since i was at lia´s and her boyfriends birthday party
--BELL--
Maxine Walden: pause coming up soon
Yakuzza Lethecus: so there were plenty of distractions
Bleu Oleander: was that in rl Yaku?
Yakuzza Lethecus: yes
Bleu Oleander: so you live near each other?
Yakuzza Lethecus: 200km away
Wol Euler: :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: but haven´t been in aachen before so i combined it with sightseening and couchsurfing
arabella Ella: cool
Maxine Walden: ah...:)
Zen Arado: couchsurfing sounds cool :)
Liza Deischer: hi QT
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey qt, they were great hosts
arabella Ella: Ciao Qt
stevenaia Michinaga: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CouchSurfing
Zen Arado: interesting - never heard of it before
Qt Core: oh, they!
stevenaia Michinaga: me either, sound interesting
Maxine Walden: nor I
Liza Deischer: yes, it does
Qt Core: i've heard about them but never partecipated, not really a traveller myself
Qt Core: and i don't have a couch in my home ;-)
Maxine Walden: :))
arabella Ella: is it against payment Yaku?
Maxine Walden: wondering what the PaB related themes are in this session...maybe being open to everything?
Zen Arado: making your homw open?
Yakuzza Lethecus: no it isn´t and i just used the term since i slept on the couch there, sure i knew the couchsurfing concept before
Zen Arado: hears anguished cries
Qt Core: me too zen
stevenaia Michinaga: I do as well
Maxine Walden: yes, that seems to be a griefer, had it put at the edge of our space earlier this session
Qt Core: vanishing away
Maxine Walden: yes, grateful for that
Zen Arado: risky opening your hoe to ppl you don't know too well
Zen Arado: home
Maxine Walden: opening your home, maybe opening one's space to the unfamiliar...
stevenaia Michinaga: we sort of do that here... with our inner home
Maxine Walden: yes, Steve, that was what I was thinking as well
Wol Euler nods.
Qt Core: candidly admit i'm not sure i'm open enough to partecipate
arabella Ella: some people do home exchanges too with people they never met
Yakuzza Lethecus: hehe , your family did home exchange already in the 70th ara ?
arabella Ella: yes Yaku when I was a child
arabella Ella: we exchanged homes, cars, etc ... it was fun
Maxine Walden: I feel like asking Qt about his feeling closed today but I have to go in a moment and did not want to begin a conversation I could not continue
Maxine Walden: need to go, nice to see everyone
arabella Ella: bye Maxine
stevenaia Michinaga: bye maxine
Yakuzza Lethecus: bye
Qt Core: we may start it another time ;-)
Widget Whiteberry: bye all
Qt Core: bye
Bleu Oleander: me too, bye all
Bolonath Crystal: bye everyone, om shanti :)
--BELL--
Zen Arado: me also bye
Wol Euler: bye widget, bye blue, bye bolo
arabella Ella: my parents wanted to take us five kids on vacation to London and they could not afford accommodation so we went for an exchange instead with a family we had never met ... and we have been very good friends with them ever since then
Qt Core: nice
Yakuzza Lethecus: how did you organize that ?
Qt Core: without internet...
Yakuzza Lethecus: :)
arabella Ella: my dad somehow found them in a medical journal i think that put in such adverts
Liza Deischer: :-)
Yakuzza Lethecus: yes, and even with internet there are still trust issues :)
Qt Core: so it weas based on "complicity" between colleagues
arabella Ella: well my dad is not a medic ... but i guess in life one sometimes takes calculated risks
arabella Ella: in those days one could only communicate with letters through the post
Qt Core: yeah, just don't leave around the combination of the safe ;-)
Wol Euler: :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: you flew or by ship ?
Liza Deischer: cu guys
arabella Ella: with five kids Qt ... you dont have anything to put in a safe
Yakuzza Lethecus: bye
arabella Ella: we flew
Qt Core: bye liza
Wol Euler: bye liza, take care
arabella Ella: bye Liza
arabella Ella: they had a lovely home in Hampstead
arabella Ella: North London
arabella Ella: but people who take in lodgers or students take risks too
arabella Ella: many people do that here
Yakuzza Lethecus: and leave their wlan´s open
arabella Ella: some do
arabella Ella: the level of trust differs
arabella Ella: from family to family
Yakuzza Lethecus: i am also facinated by the concept of couchsurfing but only at ppl i know before
Qt Core: in some cases, especially for exchange students it may become a for of business, right ?
Qt Core: for=form
Yakuzza Lethecus: so it´s nice when ppl like paradise offer an ,,open house" or what ever
arabella Ella: yes many people do it as a business here to get extra income
arabella Ella: fraid i must go
arabella Ella: nite all
Yakuzza Lethecus: night ara
Qt Core: 'night ara
Wol Euler: bye ara, take care
Yakuzza Lethecus: good night you both
Wol Euler: bye yaku, sleep well
Qt Core: 'night yaku
Wol Euler: I should go too, goodnight qt
Qt Core: 'night wol
