The Guardian for this meeting was Eliza Madrigal. The comments are by Eliza Madrigal.
DR42 Resident: Hi.
Darren Islar: hi there
DR42 Resident: Nǐ hào shànliáng de rén.
Darren Islar: I speak english and Dutch
DR42 Resident: (Hello, kind person.)
--BELL--
Wol Euler: Marjorie, I keep taking you for Pema when I come to the playgoda
Darren Islar: heh
Darren Islar: hi everyone
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Darren, Maude :)
DR42 Resident: That's a good thing, I hope.
Riddle Sideways: Hi everyBody
Wol Euler: hello darren, maude
Wol Euler: oh yes
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: great presentation today Storm, thanks again
Wol Euler nods.
Eliza Madrigal: I was wondering, is it only Mary that Kuan Yin has been fused with, historically? I didn't think to ask at the museum
Darren Islar: Tara?
Eliza Madrigal: well I was thinking more across so called "religious" boundaries
Eliza Madrigal: but that's a good point hm
Storm Nordwind: Thank you Eliza. As Adams said, it was personal rather than academic. :)
Eliza Madrigal: :) best sort
Storm Nordwind: The fusing with Mary is not that widespread I think, except with some in the west,
Storm Nordwind: Incidentally, the one Christian statue that ranks with the tallest in the world is of Mary
Eliza Madrigal: I once saw a statue that was certainly Kuan Yin, but holding a cross, and with an aura of waves, in Japan. It captured my curiosity... thought maybe a kind of guardian for ships
Eliza Madrigal: ooh, interesting
Storm Nordwind: Yes, she was popular with sailors for stilling storms. I'm sure many people think that about this Storm too! ;-)
Eliza Madrigal grins
Darren Islar: hey Bruce
Catrinamonblue Resident: hi Bruce :)
Bruce Mowbray: Hello, everyone. What a FINE group today!
Eliza Madrigal: never thought to ask Kuan Yin to help with "Storm" lol
DR42 Resident notes that more people are here then seen recently.
Storm Nordwind chuckles
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bruce :)
Darren Islar: I think there was a meeting before this one
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Catrinamonblue Resident: The boys let me have the computer in exchange for the tv ;)
Bruce Mowbray: There was a lecture in the Museum of Sacred Art, LP.
Darren Islar: heh
Storm Nordwind: A bit of trivia for you Eliza: Kuan Yin's name has been fused with a very well known multinational company
Darren Islar: yes, I think I understood by now ;)
Eliza Madrigal knows that one :)
Eliza Madrigal: >snaps photo of Storm<
Storm Nordwind chuckles
Storm Nordwind: http://i.imgur.com/7oXr4YW.jpg
Eliza Madrigal clicks
Storm Nordwind: That was the logo on their first camera. Then they decided to name their company after that camera. Then they changed the spelling to Canon.
Catrinamonblue Resident: neat ty for that bit of trivia :)
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, I didn't know about the name change
Eliza Madrigal: wow great image
Storm Nordwind: I think "Canon" has an easier ring to it than "Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory" ;-)
--BELL--
Eliza Madrigal: POIL
Darren Islar: it looks a bit weird to use an image like that for commercial purposes
Riddle Sideways: 90 sec on POIL :)
Eliza Madrigal: sorry :)
Storm Nordwind: I think Yoshida-san, who was joint founder, was a devotee of Kuan Yin/Kwanon
DR42 Resident: What are peoples intentions?
Eliza Madrigal: it is a funny question because on the one hand, when the image/name is a tribute to the inspiration it seems a way of honor...but if using just to push buttons in others who are dvoted, not so...
Eliza Madrigal: so a matter of intention?
Darren Islar: all the more reason
Darren Islar: actually I don't see the honor in it
Eliza Madrigal: I can see how it might be for someone
Riddle Sideways: beware somebody is trying to steer us toward a topic
Storm Nordwind chuckles
Darren Islar: since it can actually only be the other way around, you honor the product with it
Wol Euler: perhaps the founders felt she had helped them over enormous obstacles to get to the point where tehy had a saleable product
Eliza Madrigal: in our overcommercialized/suspect of commercialization time it is quite different
Eliza Madrigal: yes Wol, that's what I was thinking
Storm Nordwind: People show their gratitude in different ways.
Eliza Madrigal: so...intentions... hm
Wol Euler: judging the intention of others ... hm
Riddle Sideways: a Storm's intention
Darren Islar: no, I'm not trying to judge their intentions ... but images of boeddhas are in a way considered to be that boeddha
Eliza Madrigal: over the last week I've thought about how many times my motivation for being here has changed.. but I think my intention has been the same, though hard to articulate
Darren Islar: and it's a bit odd in my view to connect that to a camera and a name .... though the name has been changed over teh years and it might have started of differently .. I don't know the story, but still seems odd
Eliza Madrigal nods.. valid feelings
Storm Nordwind: So motivation and intention are different for you Eliza? Would you like to say more? :)
Eliza Madrigal: I think of motive as more transient.. like what may bring me here on a given day
Storm Nordwind nods
Eliza Madrigal: whereas an intention has kept me here almost 5 years or may call me elsewhere
Eliza Madrigal: very interested to hear others' sensibilities on the topic
Catrinamonblue Resident: my intentions in being here has changed greatly from when I started :) I have moved more towards learning about myself in the reflections of others where at first I was chasing trust that was lost.
Riddle Sideways: even with the bestest of intentions some things don't happen
Eliza Madrigal: ah, true
Wol Euler: we talked about this in my 1am yesterday, and thought that motivation is to intention as strategy is to tactics.
Catrinamonblue Resident: smiles
Wol Euler: my intention is to run a mile this evening, my motivation is to run a marathon next spring
Eliza Madrigal: then what would be deeper? beneath strategy and tactics
Wol Euler: (example, not actually me :)
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Darren Islar: heh
Darren Islar: is an interesting distinction Eliza, either way
--BELL--
Wol Euler: motivation is the deep feeling, intention is its expression
Eliza Madrigal: I see, so a flip of my sensibility
Wol Euler: or a mistake, and you are right :)
Eliza Madrigal: not :) just interesting to consider different views
Catrinamonblue Resident: intention is the feeling motivation the action?
Eliza Madrigal: intention is deeper than feeling to me, maybe why hard to express
Darren Islar: words are just words, but making a distinction between it is interesting, one a deeper layer of the other one
Eliza Madrigal nods
Catrinamonblue Resident: intention is the heart moving towards the light and motivation is pehaps that movement made physical?
Eliza Madrigal: nice, Cat
Catrinamonblue Resident: trying to find words
Catrinamonblue Resident: ty
Storm Nordwind: I originally asked because I didn't see a difference. :)
Eliza Madrigal: yeah, like someone would say "that plan didn't work but their heart is right"
Catrinamonblue Resident: maybe there is none :)
Darren Islar: one is more unstructured then the other? easier to influence?
Riddle Sideways: thinking of those early mornings when neither motivtion nor intention is enough to get up
Darren Islar: grins
Catrinamonblue Resident: anxiety forces me up to walk a good 7 km :)
Santoshima Resident: maybe you just like to walk :)
Catrinamonblue Resident: smiles yes that too
Santoshima Resident: and anxiety is just for company
Darren Islar: I don't know if there is a difference, but seeing it layered might open up new understandings
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Wol Euler: to me cat's example clarifies it. It makes sense to say that her motivation for walking is anxiety, but does not make sense to say that her intention for walking is anxiety.
Wol Euler: IMHO YMMV
Darren Islar: YMMV?
Wol Euler: Your Mileage May Vary :)
Darren Islar: ah :)
Eliza Madrigal: anxiety comes and goes (hopefully goes) but the walking may remain
Catrinamonblue Resident: ty Wol I hadn't really thought of it that way :)
Wol Euler: from American car ads :)
Storm Nordwind: Disclaimer from ads
Wol Euler: yep
Santoshima Resident: CTTA
Catrinamonblue Resident: And yes I do really enjoy the walking :)
Santoshima Resident: closer than they appear
Eliza Madrigal: maybe can rephrase the question as "why are we all here?"" for me it is part of a larger/deeper intention of my life
Darren Islar: is anxiety a motivator?
Storm Nordwind: Like guilt is - for some people at least
Santoshima Resident: anxiety is an overlay
Wol Euler: it seems to motivate Cat to not sit still
Santoshima Resident: avoidance of seeing the underlying reasons for anxiety is the motivator
Catrinamonblue Resident: Anxiety in my experience is not a motivator, more of a deterrent for other life things like work that are harder because of it
Darren Islar: ponders both Wol's and San's responses
Eliza Madrigal nods thoughtfully
Catrinamonblue Resident: yes I move but can't stop moving, to sit still for work is HARD
Wol Euler nods.
Catrinamonblue Resident: even sitting for PaB sessions I get up and down go to the kitchen for water etc
Riddle Sideways: wb
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Darren Islar: heh
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: There remains the deep intention to Play as if Being part of each week
Riddle Sideways: to get out of ruts and see differently for a while
Eliza Madrigal: ty Riddle
Darren Islar: I just found a pic on facebook about two dogs trying to meditate, the collars lying in front of them ... says one dog to the other "the key to meditation is learning to stay"
Catrinamonblue Resident: my intentions for being here is to learn, about myself, about others, mirrors reflecting finding the moments between the moments when joy shines forth and laughter reighns :) to see that there is so much more to me than I and I see it in all of you sitting here as I see it in the silence of early morning walks watching the sun rise
Darren Islar nods
Catrinamonblue Resident: there is so much fun here and it's a safe place to be
Wol Euler smiles.
Eliza Madrigal smiles too
Riddle Sideways: grins, yes
Wol Euler: in a way I suppose I come here as an expression of gratitude, almost like repaying a debt
Riddle Sideways: /understood
Wol Euler: the ideas and practices and people met here have changed my life for the better in many ways, and I want to try to give some of that back
Catrinamonblue Resident: nods
Darren Islar nods
Eliza Madrigal: interesting Wol
Wol Euler: so my motivation is gratitude, and my intention is repayment :)
Eliza Madrigal: :) lol
Wol Euler can never leave things well enough alone.
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Wol Euler: (Berti in nine minutes)
Bruce Mowbray intends and is motivated to attend Berti's meditation.
Riddle Sideways: Interesting, Wol. You have given so much that it is hard to think you get as much
Wol Euler smiles modestly.
Darren Islar: what about motivations or intentions we don't yet see
Darren Islar: ?
Eliza Madrigal: the inexplicable reasons
Wol Euler nods.
Bruce Mowbray: Well, partly my intention in 'sitting' is to be able to see them.
Bruce Mowbray: to become able to see them.
Darren Islar nods
Eliza Madrigal: hm
Eliza Madrigal: to see your own heart?
Bruce Mowbray: yes, Eliza... and also the lower angels.
Darren Islar: heart as core of intentions (or motivation, depending on hwo you read the word)?
Bruce Mowbray: (maybe especially to be able to see the 'lower angels' ...)
Darren Islar: nods to Bruce, not the heart, more the 'ego', whatever that is btw
Eliza Madrigal: mmm, nods
Bruce Mowbray: I may not yet be able to see that my motivation for doing something is jealousy, or anger, or pride. . . .
Riddle Sideways: and perhaps spend some no-ego time
Wol Euler nods.
Bruce Mowbray: Sounds good, Riddle.
Eliza Madrigal: out of ego time, like that phrasing
Darren Islar: heh
Darren Islar: hmmm, need to remember that one :)
Wol Euler smiles.
--BELL--
Bruce Mowbray: I'm off to Berti's. Thaks, everyone.
Santoshima Resident: bye bruce

Wol Euler: me too, goodnight and thank you everyone

Eliza Madrigal: you were quiet Pila :)
Santoshima Resident: 'night
Pila Mulligan: yes :)
Santoshima Resident: good to see you both
Pila Mulligan: bye for now

Santoshima Resident: bye pila

Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: aloha `oe
