Protecting the Heart

    1. 1. Questions

The theme for today is "Protecting the Heart".

The "heart" symbolizes a deep place of knowing and union within a person, with their various parts, and with the world - one that is in some way beyond division.  This is a place where knowing and being come together.  It is very central to who and what we are,  so the theme plays into many others, such as vulnerability, innocence, and compassion.

Vulnerability describes the encounter of heart and the world.  Sometimes that encounter challenges the wholeness of the heart and the relationship of heart and world.  At that time I may lose touch with that sense of myself.

Other times I notice that I am already acting from a place of disconnection from that knowing, doing things that don't feel right with myself and others, things that create separations.

This separation is a way of suffering.
Something is lost or missing during that time and I may feel sad, alienated, in some way lost.
That is now I personally notice it and I know other people may experience it in their own ways.

This is natural - to break and then to come back together.  Protecting the heart necessarily doesn't mean to try to prevent this from happening.  It means to protect the heart from getting "lost" to awareness.  To protect it from being forgotten.

I'd like to not forget, but I know I will.

    Questions

    • Can I notice that "place" within, or in relationship, or wherever it appears, when I'm having that "experience" of the heart?
    • When do I notice myself losing that contact or knowing, or noticing that I've lost it and want to return?
    • How can I protect this knowing?
    • Let myself "have" this knowing.  Let me know myself in this way.
