    Martin Luther King Day

    Eliza Madrigal: Wow... ball attire
Riddle Sideways: Howdee, skating away, Eliza
Eliza Madrigal: you both look extra snazzy
Riddle Sideways: special outfit of the day
    Riddle Sideways: ha ㋡
Riddle Sideways: oh, wait it is MLK day
    Eden Haiku: Hi Riddle, Eliza:)
Riddle Sideways: a day to re-listen to a dream speech
Eden Haiku: yes, I know I'm over dressed for a Monday morning:)
Eliza Madrigal: never overdress in SL... whatever makes you feel happy
Riddle Sideways: hmmm, maybe need to get more clothes
Riddle Sideways: so, there is a choice
Riddle Sideways: to go with weather or occasion
Eden Haiku:Felt like a little girl who wants to go to school in her party dress this morning :)
    Riddle Sideways: ㋡ awwww

    --BELL--

    Eliza Madrigal: lovely :)
Riddle Sideways: what ever you feel
Riddle Sideways: take care and listen to that little girl
Eden Haiku: You were talking about a dream speech Riddle?
Riddle Sideways:however, listening to the little boy inside is almost always ends up in trouble
    Eden Haiku: giggles
    Eliza Madrigal: haha!
Riddle Sideways: yes, today is the day to (at least) listen to the "I have a Dream" speech
Eden Haiku: Martin Luther King's speech?
    Riddle Sideways: yes
Eden Haiku: You mean, you never heard it?
Eliza Madrigal: as a yearly ritual
    Eden Haiku: Oh, is it?
Riddle Sideways: seem to have become a yearly ritual
Eden Haiku: In the US, a ritual?
    Riddle Sideways: no, just personal
    Eden Haiku: Why today?
Riddle Sideways: and, well, advised to anybody met
Eden Haiku: A very good idea indeed!
Eliza Madrigal: :)Today is the holiday in the US
Riddle Sideways: us made a holiday today for M.L.K
Riddle Sideways: so a day to think good thoughts
Eden Haiku: Martin Luther King day?
Riddle Sideways:how maybe All can live in harmony, peace and growth
Riddle Sideways: the closest thing us has to Gandi
Eliza Madrigal: I was thinking to re-readLetter from a Birmingham Jail today, because it wasn't until I read that years ago, that I felt really connected to him, rather than the sort of, hm, image of him that is put forward... he was peaceful but not passive.
Eliza Madrigal: I can't even say right this minute what it was about reading that that shifted the feeling/stance, but it was so powerful.
Eden Haiku: Listening to the Dream speech :): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I47Y6VHc3Ms
    Eliza Madrigal: ty :)
Riddle Sideways: yes, he wrote/spoke soooo many powerful letters and sermons
Riddle Sideways: and then lived them
Eliza Madrigal: "and then lived them."
Riddle Sideways: that seemed to be the point
    Riddle Sideways: thank you, Eden
Eden Haiku: I read a few words from the Dream speech on a Martin Luther King's statue in the garden of an ashram in New York State. I fell apart, crying.
Eden Haiku: That was back in 1986 and it was the first time I got in touch with the speech.
Eden Haiku: Then I read a book about him and studied the dream in translation with my students.
Riddle Sideways: hope that it translates well and still carries the power
    Eden Haiku: So powerful!
    Riddle Sideways: sentiment
Eliza Madrigal: I think many now read just quotes :(
Eden Haiku: So full of hope!
Eden Haiku: I also showed my students a film of the speech with French sub-titles so they could get a sense of his delivery tone and the fact that the crowd was cheering him up like in a Baptist church.
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eden Haiku: We are still far from this dream...
Riddle Sideways: yes, the power of his oratorical phasing delivery
Eden Haiku: "our thirst for freedom...¨

    --BELL--

Eden Haiku: "meeting physical force with soul force"

    A bit hopeful and marching

Eliza Madrigal: last night, watcheda longish interview with Obama on netflix... clips of John Lewis, and visions of teaching/training young people to be involed. Felt teary and a bit hopeful
Riddle Sideways: a few weeks ago, one of social comics on late night, had a neutral voice read exactly what The Donald spoke :))
    Riddle Sideways: very funny
Eden Haiku: Oh, wonderful. That’s on Netflix?
    Eliza Madrigal:yes, Letterman interview
Eden Haiku: The Donald dead tone :)
Eden Haiku: Oh thanks Eliza, found the Obama interview for later :)
Eliza Madrigal: enjoyable, and at times inspiring :)
Eliza Madrigal: I'm a little afraid of my own aversion to The Donald. I do so much to avoid looking at him or listening to him
    Eliza Madrigal: directly
Riddle Sideways: will take the Fitbit for a walk today at a local march
Eden Haiku: Obama is such a good speaker !
    Eden Haiku: A march Riddle?
    Riddle Sideways: yes
Eden Haiku: What's the theme of the march?
Riddle Sideways: "1963, is not a end, but a beginning..."
Riddle Sideways: it is a MLK march
    Eden Haiku: Tearing up...
    Riddle Sideways: and getting angry
Riddle Sideways: however, hearing the words "let us not drink from the cup of violence"
Eden Haiku: So true, it was a beginning. "I have a dream today, I have a dream that one day...will be able to join hands with white girls and white boys"
Eden Haiku: Anger is good Riddle, I think.
Eden Haiku: It just needs to be transformed into love.
Riddle Sideways: it is how to finds vent that matters
Eden Haiku: Let your anger rain Riddle, we can hear it here :)
Riddle Sideways: Jan.15 last year, we knew not what this year would bring, but feared anyway
Riddle Sideways: this has been a year of so many ... varied feelings
    Riddle Sideways: anger, sadness,
Eden Haiku: "the old negro spiritual free a last, God Almighty free at last!"
    Riddle Sideways: "We, shall Overcome"
Eden Haiku: Anger and sadness and a lot of fear isn'it?
Riddle Sideways: dream of a state of Mississippi
Riddle Sideways: transformed to an oasis
    Riddle Sideways: oh dear!
    Eden Haiku: :)
Riddle Sideways: surely, he rolls over in the grave
Riddle Sideways: (if that is possible)

    --BELL--

    Fears

Riddle Sideways: "let Freedom Ring ..." from the women of color picking in your fields of California
Eden Haiku: You were saying you are a little afraid of your own aversion for the Donald Eliza?
Riddle Sideways: can't even look at him
Eden Haiku: I understand, I feel the same...
Eliza Madrigal: and then I worry that if I don't, I will ignore, even in micro ways
Eliza Madrigal: not hear see clearly
Riddle Sideways: even when he is just up the road from you, in Palm Beach
Eden Haiku: That's scary yes: denial of reality, where it can lead us...
Eliza Madrigal:closer than that... in rationalizations of so many I know, and know closely
Riddle Sideways: the ignoring of the Elephant in the room
Eden Haiku: People in Germany, while Hitler was gaining power must have felt something like that,,,
Eliza Madrigal: I'm sure of it
    Riddle Sideways: some ignored
Riddle Sideways: some stated that it would pass
    Riddle Sideways: some got out
    Riddle Sideways: some laughed
Eliza Madrigal: the thing is... this is global... we're somewhat fortunate, if we see it that way, that the ugliness is so obvious
    Riddle Sideways: some were silent
Eden Haiku: Yesterday, on local tv, a talk show, the correspondant to Washington for our local info tv said the nuclear threat was for real.
    Eden Haiku: I knew, but...
Eden Haiku: Read a wonderful testimony of a mother in Hawaii about the alert...
Riddle Sideways: only heard about that, last night
    Riddle Sideways: the alert
    Riddle Sideways: weirdness, mistake(?)
Eliza Madrigal: close description of test/alert on drop down menu
Eliza Madrigal: but US president did nothing to assuage fears
    Eliza Madrigal: kept golfing
Eden Haiku: In the Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/parenting/wp/2018/01/13/being-a-mother-in-hawaii-during-38-minutes-of-nuclear-threat-terror/?utm_term=.b93519aa1579
    Eliza Madrigal: ty Eden
Eden Haiku: Yes, he was golfing....
Riddle Sideways: oh! ty Eden for that link
Riddle Sideways: 38 minutes are very long
Riddle Sideways: that the end of the world
Eden Haiku: A bit long, I have no more patience for bit.ly ...
Eden Haiku: I meant the link but 38 minutes is awfully long...The woman regretted she had not assembled any survival kit....
Eden Haiku: That's something I have been wanting to do for a while... Short-waves radio, frontal lamps, candles....
Riddle Sideways: Hawaii is so laid back a place
Riddle Sideways: to be that stressed out
    Riddle Sideways: there
Riddle Sideways:yes, most the neighbors are stocking them
Riddle Sideways: for many reasons over the past years
Eden Haiku: We were kind of thinking of organizing some winter vacation in Kaui or Maui. It ruined our plans of an escape in a friendlier climate...
Riddle Sideways: oh dear! you would let it
Riddle Sideways: yet, it is world-wide
Eden Haiku: We used to travel a lot and now we seem kind of wary of any place. Terrorism, climate change, violence in Mexico. But I know it’s just fear.
Riddle Sideways: hmmm, had to put into words
Riddle Sideways: "Everywhere you go, there you are"
Eden Haiku: The sun is shining on the fresh snow here. But it's so cold. Very cold...
Eliza Madrigal: so beautiful, the snowy photos
Riddle Sideways: the 'should be alert' vs. 'want to hide head in sand'
Eden Haiku: I feel like a break in milder weathers...
    Riddle Sideways: warm sand ㋡
    Eliza Madrigal: :)

    --BELL--

Scariest feeling is when people aren’t talking

    Eden Haiku: mmmm
Eliza Madrigal: eventually the fear is own neighbors... is the thing
Eliza Madrigal: if one lets it keep creeping
Eden Haiku: Yes, it's true Eliza.
Eden Haiku: Anything can happen anywhere.
    Eden Haiku: Anyway :(
Eliza Madrigal: I feel hopeful when we talk about it, even though hard
Eliza Madrigal: scariest feeling is when people aren't talking
    Eden Haiku: yes!

A ballet of seagulls in the sky

Eden Haiku: Yesterday, walking on a nearby island, I saw something wonderful.
Riddle Sideways: then there is the Hate non-sequiturs, a sentence about DACA(sp?) gets to include imigrants, drugs, bad hambras
Eden Haiku: A group of seagulls who had been sitting at the frontier of ice and free waters
Eden Haiku: Suddenly flew in a majestic ballet into the sky
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Riddle Sideways: thank you, for that image, smile, vacation into a pause
Eden Haiku: The birds seemed to be in perfect syntony
    Riddle Sideways: needed that
Eden Haiku: flying altogether, on different layers of the sky
    Eden Haiku: yet never touching
Riddle Sideways: knowing, listening, being with each of its neighbors in flight
    Eden Haiku: Yes, exactly Riddle!
Riddle Sideways: imagine being that aware
    Riddle Sideways: awake
Eden Haiku: Heard the word 'syntony' in a dance exercise many years ago
    Eliza Madrigal: wonderful word
Riddle Sideways: oh!!!! thought it was a typo... a great word
Eden Haiku: Now finding in the Webster: "the state of being normally responsive to and in harmony with the environment"
    Riddle Sideways: thank you
Eden Haiku: I guess musicians use a lot of syntony!
    Riddle Sideways: and seagulls
    Riddle Sideways: and everyone "should"
Eden Haiku: So maybe all the anger, the sadness and the fear many of us go through are just a dance into layers of the sky....
Eliza Madrigal: cultivating syntony, awakeness in that capacity
Eden Haiku: When we would stumble into someone the dance master would just say: "You have been out of syntony, just go back into the dance" and we did!
Eden Haiku: It was an exhilarating feeling!
    Riddle Sideways: yes!
    Eliza Madrigal: swirling sufis :)
Riddle Sideways: the Fear of stepping on another's toes, should not rule your life
    Eliza Madrigal: !
Eden Haiku: If we could feel that everything happening in the world is just part of a beautiful seagulls dance into layers of sky!
Riddle Sideways: then again... stop stepping on toes... just dance
Eliza Madrigal has been working for 3 years to stop saying "I'm sorry" reflexively, but only when I mean it
Eden Haiku: The key to not step into another's toes was to follow our own path :)
    Riddle Sideways: knowing their path
    Riddle Sideways: too
    Riddle Sideways: aware
Eden Haiku: Yep! And not feeling sorry for any mishap, just getting back into the dance!
    Riddle Sideways: Great, Eliza

    Visitors from SL in RL

Riddle Sideways: (BTW, Stevania and Hannah visited here in RL over the weekend. great time)
    Eliza Madrigal: wow, fantastic
    Eden Haiku: Wow!!!
Eden Haiku: Hannah? I don't think I know her
Riddle Sideways: mate, not of SL nor PaB.
    Eden Haiku: Ah!
Riddle Sideways: but, put up with us talking about y'all
Eliza Madrigal: have met her once, still feel a little sorry I wasn't tip top when they visited... but still enjoyed lovely people
Eden Haiku: Is Stevenaia as sweet in RL as in SL?

    --BELL--

Riddle Sideways: yes, washes dishes ㋡ which is a winner in this house
Eliza Madrigal: he is, same evenness and sweetness
    Eliza Madrigal: washes dishes!
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Eden Haiku: Hehe :)
Riddle Sideways: and said they had a great time meeting Eliza
Eden Haiku: Evenness is a good word to describe Stevanaia. An equanimity person:)
Eliza Madrigal: I was a little not well, so felt slow, but dazzled. Looking back I thought of so many things I could have suggested/showed
Eliza Madrigal: but they were on the go anyway, family events :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hannah is an amazing cook, from photos I've seen
    Eden Haiku: Lucky you!
Riddle Sideways: yes, same here. they only stayed one night
Riddle Sideways: talked over dinner, drinks, desert for only 5 hours
Eden Haiku: Eos was on stepover in Montreal once
    Eliza Madrigal: wow, how lovely
Riddle Sideways: breakfast 2 hours and they left
    Riddle Sideways: tooo quick
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, I didn't remember that you'd met Eos, Eden
Eden Haiku: But I couldn't meet him over coffee, it was during Christmas time and I had family over...Would have liked to meet him so much though...
    Eliza Madrigal: ohh, I see
    Eliza Madrigal: yes it happens
Eden Haiku: No, it didn't happen, sadly
Riddle Sideways: think/maybe have met Eos
    Eliza Madrigal: You met Fox
Riddle Sideways: but was at far end of a big table
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eden Haiku: I did meet Fox yes. It went very well, but then we never met again...
Riddle Sideways: Steve said Fox was in Canada
Eden Haiku: We didn’t know each other that well in SL either so it dwindled...
    Riddle Sideways: finishing dissertation(?)
Eden Haiku: Yes, she lives in Montreal
Eliza Madrigal: she wasn't as involved in SL, only dream sessions mostly
Eliza Madrigal: but is involved with YHouse now
Eden Haiku: Yes, she was busy with her thesis and her child.
Eliza Madrigal nods... still nice to make those connections
    Eden Haiku: Yes :)
Riddle Sideways: shame, that when in NYC there is no extra time to go to YHouse
Eliza Madrigal: it is weird that I feel like I've met those I haven't...have to remind myself that I've never sat f2f with Eden and Riddle
    Eden Haiku: Same here :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Riddle Sideways: might be better ㋡
Eliza Madrigal wants best of all worlds
Eden Haiku: No, I'm sure you are even funnier in RL :)
Eliza Madrigal: would have liked to be part of Riddle and Storm (and Luci?) playing music together
Eden Haiku: And I’m pretty sure we will meet in RL some day, the three of us:)
Riddle Sideways: maybe... Stephenia did laugh at me, a lot
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Eden Haiku: He did laugh at you? Ohoh...
Riddle Sideways: oh, you should hear Cinda's singing voice
Eliza Madrigal: have a great photo of Stevenaia and Storm doing some kind of duet over beer in Princeton... they were funny
    Eden Haiku: Ah!
Eliza Madrigal: She's surprising isn't she? Would love to hear her sing
Riddle Sideways: well, yes, our music was over beer also
Eliza Madrigal: sigh, such nice connections
    Eliza Madrigal: feelings
    Eliza Madrigal: :) thank you
Eden Haiku: You met many in RL, in retreats Eliza didn’t you?
Eliza Madrigal: remembering now Gaya playing piano too
Eliza Madrigal: yes, I've met a lot of PaBers
Riddle Sideways: the sadness of having let "work" not allow going to retreats
Eliza Madrigal: not one regret for those meetings/trips
    Eden Haiku: Wonderful!
Eliza Madrigal: circumstances and luck do make way or not
Eliza Madrigal: I had a series of miracles with flight vouchers

    Images messed up

Riddle Sideways: Yet, the images formed of each of you
    Eden Haiku: Nice :)
Riddle Sideways: would not want messed up
    Riddle Sideways: by RL meeting
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
    Eden Haiku: Would it Riddle?
Eliza Madrigal: I worried about that at first
Eliza Madrigal: to disappoint others especially
Eliza Madrigal: "not so magic outside of SL" :)
Riddle Sideways: not sure, has sometimes, might enrich
Riddle Sideways: yes!!! not so magical outside this context
Eden Haiku: I was kind of distracted to see Fox wasn't a furry in a circle of fire, but a cute young woman with short hair and fluent in French, but it was a nice surprise!
    Eliza Madrigal giggles
Riddle Sideways: and knowing Eliza would be giggling

    --BELL--

    Googling  Eliza and Riddle

Eliza Madrigal: I would, ha ha. even through pauses
    Eden Haiku: Giggling Eliza :)
    Eden Haiku: Googling Eliza :)
Eliza Madrigal: my pervasive feeling when getting to meet PaBers: as though getting away with something and don't want to be caught
Eliza Madrigal: the "can't believe this isn't this cool?" feeling doesn't go away
Riddle Sideways: slipped once, last year, and saw an Eden photo on the book page
Eden Haiku: Oh there is one on Instagram and so on but it's not the real one!
Riddle Sideways: did not have the black hair
Eliza Madrigal: not the real one?
    Eden Haiku: Not you!
Riddle Sideways: good. not the real one
Eden Haiku: No, Riddle, black hair and fountain of youth are an SL fantasy :)
Riddle Sideways: the Real one is the little girl here
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Eliza Madrigal knows that Eden is bright and young exudes healthiness in RL
    Riddle Sideways: yes
Eden Haiku: Googling Riddle Sideways leads to a report on PaB wiki...
    Riddle Sideways: ㋡
Eliza Madrigal: I would love to go to Amsterdam...  searched wester  on pab wiki and felt so sad that there were pages and pages of "quiet" (empty) sessions at 1am before she drew back from the group
Eden Haiku: And googling Eden Haiku brings us Haiku Woods somewhere in Hawaii. Maybe I should take a vacation there ?
Eliza Madrigal: you could write a poetry book inspired by hawaii!
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: and meet Pila, lol
Eden Haiku: Oh, that's sad Eliza, about Wester...
Riddle Sideways: for an hour or so there were photos from that first Princeton meetup
    Riddle Sideways: then taken down
Eliza Madrigal: were they taken down? the first gathering?
Eden Haiku: Oh yes Pila, he's on Big Island right?
Riddle Sideways: and no captions under the photos to label people
    Riddle Sideways: captions
Eliza Madrigal: I'm not sure... Pila is near a volcano
Eden Haiku: Never been on Big Island yet....That's an idea :)
Eden Haiku: Where you at the fisrt Princeton meet up Riddle?
Riddle Sideways: that is now (almost) the fav island
Riddle Sideways: seeing lava making land
    Eden Haiku: Is it?
    Riddle Sideways: such diversity
    Eliza Madrigal: amazing conditions there
Eliza Madrigal: I can't get the wiki to load the pages to search for photos of the "fest"
Eliza Madrigal: because maybe they were moved?
    Eden Haiku: ?
    Eliza Madrigal: aha
    Eliza Madrigal: https://wiki.playasbeing.org/Retreats/Past_retreats/2008/2008-10_Princeton%2c_NJ%2c_USA/PaB_Fest_2008
Riddle Sideways: duhhhh! made ya look
Eliza Madrigal: but maybe some are gone
    Eliza Madrigal: lol
Eliza Madrigal: it is a test/game for me, to find wiki things
    Eliza Madrigal: hahah
Eden Haiku: Thanks so much Eliza! But no captions :(
Riddle Sideways: all those young people
Eliza Madrigal: what an amazing adventure, long strange trip ^.^
Eliza Madrigal: ((((friends)))) must go <3
Eden Haiku: Bye bye Eliza, have a nice day!
