Gaya Ethaniel: During my reflection of this morning, I've met my old old friend. Was rather surprised and somewhat discomforted by meeting this friend but... decided to welcome him.
Gaya Ethaniel: He's called... 'It shouldn't be this way'

Gaya Ethaniel: I was annoyed by having this friend around again...
Faenik: what brought this 'friend' back?
Gaya Ethaniel: mm...
Gaya Ethaniel: Well... there is this person I have to deal with often and I don't seem to accept him as he is, incl his failings because I 'think' "he should know better".
Faenik: uh huh
Gaya Ethaniel: Well... the most difficult thing among his failings that I need to accept is he fails to practise what he preaches
Gaya Ethaniel: Because "he should know better" = "he shouldn't be this way"
Gaya Ethaniel sighs

Gaya Ethaniel: I know...
Gaya Ethaniel: I was talking to my best friend about this last night and it seems that I failed to see something rather crucial
Gaya Ethaniel: Not practising what one preaches is a fairly common failing... and I do the same often for sure

Gaya Ethaniel: So... the difference is that I had a fixed idea about how this person 'should' behave...

A fairy visitor: i dont understand what the meetings are about or what it is the group does?
Fael Illyar: It's sort of a test for a new type of meditation.
A fairy visitor: oh okay
A fairy visitor: so you just sit here and meditate?
Fael Illyar: the discussion is meant for participants talking about their experiences.

Gaya Ethaniel: This morning before you joined I was talking about how I don't practise what I preach
Fael Illyar: You'd be surprised :)
A fairy visitor: i havent ever meditated in rl
Fael Illyar: that would be more than perfect :)
A fairy visitor: never sat still long enough or wanted to be still and thinking for too long
Gaya Ethaniel: I saw this failing in myself during one of my reflections. My reflections come from traditional buddhist meditations as well as Play as Being exercises
A fairy visitor: for various reasons
Gaya Ethaniel: ah ok
Fael Illyar: but the meditation we do here is a bit unusual.
A fairy visitor: tryin to learn just to 'be' tho

Fael Illyar: it's, in short, 9 second pause every 15 minutes or so.
A fairy visitor: its hard
A fairy visitor: okay
Fael Illyar: Yes, 9 second pause during which you just Be :)
A fairy visitor: and you discuss in between
Gaya Ethaniel: I use a free programme that rings a bell every 15 mins so that I can stop and pause
Fael Illyar: I do those pauses all day.

Gaya Ethaniel: Some of us are Buddhists but this group is not a 'religious' one per se

Gaya Ethaniel: Some of our regulars are interested in science and others spiritual aspects of life

A fairy visitor: i dont know much about Buddhism, only that ive always been against christianity and so ive never goten into *any* 'religion'

A fairy visitor: someone saying you have to believe a 'god' is doing this that n the other
Fael Illyar: That sounds a lot like how I was and to some extent still am.
Gaya Ethaniel: I can understand that Visitor
A fairy visitor: i dont mean that in a rude way
Gaya Ethaniel: No need to do what one is not comfortable...
A fairy visitor: is buddhism the same in that way?
A fairy visitor: ive never looked into it
A fairy visitor: isnt the 'Buddha' a 'real' person?
A fairy visitor: or was
Gaya Ethaniel: Some of buddhists do 'worship' deities yes but there are many different traditions
Fael Illyar: The point of view in Christianity is to tell you "things are like this". The point of view in Buddhism is "you can find it all within yourself".
Gaya Ethaniel: Buddha literally means 'enlightened being' and the Buddha is a historical person, an Indian prince
A fairy visitor: yeh i hate that about christianity

Gaya Ethaniel: Things are like this... is that really what Christianity does? Somewhat disagree...
A fairy visitor: so he was actually real. not a 'god' sitting in a made up cloud because someone thought it sounded good lol
Gaya Ethaniel: THE Buddha people often refer to is a historical person yes
A fairy visitor: sigh
A fairy visitor: and he meditated etc, is that where is comes from?
Fael Illyar: That's sort of similar in all flavours of Buddhism but Zen Buddhism is closest to that. I asked someone how to start and the answer was "Just meditate, you'll find it all within yourself".
A fairy visitor: or is that about learning about your 'inner self'

Fael Illyar: I found that an interesting enough answer that I tried it out :)
