The theme for today is Metaphors of Self
or alternatively, "Metaphor Liberation".

We have thought about "Self" recently as a circle,
a zone one might reach in and out of,
and in the past as a Guest House, a garden party, a collage.

We use metaphors to understand things.
Science metaphors have likened Self to a computer or a steam engine.

Any metaphor will do...
will tell us something.
Self isn't a circle or even a thing.
It has a recognizable pattern and quality, a Tao

We're soaked in metaphors
and every one offers something of or about Self.

It's like a sponge in the ocean
with water and nutrients drifting in and out.
As we breathe and flex,
squeeze it and push things out
or soak up more
we are selfing.

Or like a medieval town with a moat
and many gates
even some tunnels and passages
where people come in and out
with their stories and secrets.
Have you heard the latest rumors?

Through these metaphors
we can ask questions
Who am I?
What is it LIKE, what does it FEEL LIKE, to be, do, experience?

Maybe next time we can be scientific about the question of Self.
Today let's consider some questions along the lines of:

What am I soaking in?
What comes in and out?
What makes that mysterious?
What makes it easier?
What makes it fortify, transform me?
