Who can apply for a guardian plot?

We're delighted to announce that all Play as Being guardians can apply for their own plots of land within our lands as a whole. You don't have to have a guardian plot of your own, but you are welcome to one! To apply for one, please see below.

How big is a guardian plot?

All guardian plots are the same size: 288 sqm. This is normally a rectangular plot, 12m x 24m, aligned east-west or north-south. Under special circumstances, plots can be other shapes.

    Does the plot become "mine"?

Technically no. The Play as Being group still owns it so group land permissions still apply. In other respects, yes! You get to name it and use it and build on it. And your plot will appear on our land map.

What are the lands permissions on a guardian plot?

These are normally set as follows:

    • object creation = group
    • object entry = group
    • run scripts = everyone

This means that anyone can walk on your plot and their animation override will still work. However it does mean that only members of the playasbeinghere group can build on your plot. Please remember when you are building to set that as your active group!

How many prims are allowed on a guardian plot?

We allow 260 prims on each plot. This is a very generous allowance; it is four times what Linden Labs allow on similar sized plots of land. (They only allow 65 prims!) We are able to do this because each plot will be in a region where we have other land and we aim to use less than our Linden Lab allowance outside any guardian plots.

How do I find out the total prims on my plot?

Stand on your plot and click on the title bar. (Or right click on the ground there and select About Land.) The total can be found under the Objects tab. Ignore the message from Linden Labs that says the plot only supports 65 prims.

What happens if I use more than 260 prims on my plot?

We will ask you politely to reduce your prim count!

What happens if somehow my prim count is exceeded for reasons beyond my control?

This can happen, despite land permissions. Please contact Storm Nordwind and he will remove the offending objects for you. Storm will try and visit each plot from time to time to make sure that rogue prims do not take up your allowance.

Can I put bought or donated items on my plot?

Yes! Not everyone is good at building and not everyone wants to learn. Other people may not have time. And you may see something for sale that you simply have to have! You can mix these as you wish.

Can I install a security device on my plot?

No. Unless we have to ban someone, all our lands are public access.

Can I build anything on my plot?

We ask you to build only within the boundaries of your plot with no overhangs. This is especially important if your land is next to non-PaB land.

We also ask you to remember that people may see you as a representative of Play as Being and may judge the project by what you build there. This may be true whether or not you want to be seen as such a representative!

And finally we also ask you to blend your build in with whatever theme we have in that area. For example, an ivy clad castle tower may look good in a forest but less so on a beach! On the other hand, it doesn't always have to look "finished". Experimentation is a key part of play, and "work in progress" may be a good description of you'll see on many guardian plots!

What can I use my plot for?

We only ask you not to use your plot specifically for commerical uses. And we'd ask you to remember (as it says in the previous section) that people may see you as a representative of Play as Being. All our lands are normally free access so you never know who will be wandering through! Other than that, for whatever you like: entertaining friends, meditating, practising building...

Can I build a skybox over my plot?

We haven't decided this yet. Please assume 'No' until then. We currently have no flying structures anywhere above our lands.

    Can I terraform my plot?

You won't have land permissions to do that, but you can ask Storm Nordwind to do it for you.

How do I apply for my guardian plot?

First of all you need to choose where you want it.

    1. Go to the Hall of Appearance and grab yourself a template. You'll find a template dispenser at the back of the main hall. Each template is a wooden floor 12x x 24m in size.
    2. Get a copy of the latest map of Play as Being lands from the Google groups file section.
    3. Go touring our lands! When you find the place you want, drop the template on the ground. (Make sure you have playasbeinghere group active.)
    4. Make sure that the template is aligned either north-south or east-west.
    5. If you want to be exact, you can position the template onto a 4m boundary. If you don't know what that is or how to do it, don't worry - we'll do it for you later.
    6. Stand on your template at the exact point where you would like inbound teleports to land, and create a landmark. Drop the landmark onto Storm Nordwind's profile.
    7. Send an IM to Storm Nordwind telling him the name you would like your plot called. This will appear at the top of the screen when anyone walks on your land.

    Can my plot be anywhere?

We have to have some rules about this:

    • Assuming we already own the land, we must own at least 4,096 sqm of land in that region/sim before anyone can have a plot there.
    • We can allow 4 plots per quarter sim in any region. For example, if we own 3/4 of a region (like Magoja at the time of writing), we can have a maximum of 12 plots there.
    • Plots can't straddle region/sim boundaries.
    • Plots can't straddle rivers or pathways (planned or existing), or be where we need to have Play as Being features such as buildings or landscaping features. If in doubt, please ask Storm.

    What happens then?

When Storm gets the opportunity, he will visit the place of your landmark and find your template. He will check to make sure the rules above are OK. (If there are any queries he will get back to you.) Assuming everything is OK, he may adjust the template position very slightly to make sure it is on 4m spacing, partition off your plot, and rename it to your choice. He will leave the template there for you to remove later. You will be able to see the boundaries of your plot in blue by switching on World > Property Lines. He'll send you a message to say things are done. Then enjoy!

Can I set my Home position to my guardian plot?

Yes! Go to your plot and select World > Set Home to Here. At any time after that, you can type ctrl-shift-H (PC), or command-shift-H (Mac), and you will instantly be teleported there.
