--BELL--
Raffila Millgrove: Hello Maxine, Bleu, Catrina, Mic,Riddle and Tura.

Maxine Walden: yes :(
Mickorod Renard: thanks Bleu
Bleu Oleander: yw!
Mickorod Renard: how do I check its got my email address?

Riddle Sideways: self-moderation
Poof!
Agatha Macbeth: Ere I am
Mickorod Renard: Hi Ags
Maxine Walden: sounds good, riddle
Bleu Oleander: hey Aggers
Agatha Macbeth: Are you grabbing the log Mick?
Raffila Millgrove bows to Agatha.
Mickorod Renard: I think I am in some moderator role but we can play it freely
Mickorod Renard: I am trying Ags but struggling
Agatha Macbeth: Ok,long as someone does :p
I did :p
Maxine Walden: Maybe I could just offer my appreciation for your having considered the book 'Wisdom...' so closely over the weeks and months
Riddle Sideways: no, Mick is moderating today. at least that can be
Mickorod Renard: ah thanks Ags
Raffila Millgrove: we learned a lot in doing so. very dense and rich content.
Bleu Oleander: thank you Maxine!
Mickorod Renard: aare you posting it |Ags? or will you send it to me?
Maxine Walden: mutual thanks, perhaps :)
Agatha Macbeth: I'll post if you like
Agatha Macbeth: Maxine :))
Mickorod Renard: I enjoyed it very much Maxine
Agatha Macbeth: Good to see you again
Mickorod Renard: thanks Ags
Raffila Millgrove: Curious to know how the new book is going..and "who" will be your influences.. for that?
Maxine Walden: may I ask, has reading the book changed any things in everyday life?
Bleu Oleander: Maxine, did you read any of our comments that took you by surprise or that you would like to address?
Mickorod Renard: he he , lots of questions there
Mickorod Renard: I would say it has changed me a bit
Maxine Walden: You know, there were so many interesting comments, and some of them sort of blend in right now. Nothing startlingly. Actually, I was
Aphrodite Macbain: 's current display-name is "Aph".
Bleu Oleander: hi Aph
Aphrodite Macbain: Hiya
Mickorod Renard: Hi Aph
Agatha Macbeth: Aphie :)
Aphrodite Macbain: Scuse my formal attier
Aphrodite Macbain: attire
Maxine Walden: a bit surprised that so many seemed to really delve into the book, and tussle with it/ disagree/question, etc. That was impressive to me
Aphrodite Macbain: was in the 18th century a monment ago
Mickorod Renard: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: Maxine - it was a wonderful tussle
Maxine Walden: :)
Maxine Walden: glad so, aph
Aphrodite Macbain: I want to begin it again
Aphrodite Macbain: and further digest
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Raffila Millgrove: I am sorry that Bruce who was a major contributor to all our sessionns isn't here to answer because he often mentioned how one idea or another.. was influencing his real life experiences.
Maxine Walden: any questions, comments for us to consider here today from book or the experience of going over it?
Mickorod Renard: I think it became more clear as we got further, but that may have been because we had beccome familiar with tlanguage
Bleu Oleander: how do you see your book influencing the way we experience Play as Being going forward?
Aphrodite Macbain tries to remember all the questions she had
Maxine Walden: hmm, yes, I did seem to notie how many interesting strings of thought there seemed to be, ideas stimulating ideas...
Bruce comes online
Aphrodite Macbain: Here comes Bruce
Mickorod Renard: we must be careful to regulate our questions,,we have a few still hanging
Agatha Macbeth: Here comes Bruce yay
Agatha Macbeth: Snap
Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
And goes off again :(
Aphrodite Macbain: oops
Agatha Macbeth: Aww
Maxine Walden: interesitng question, bleu. I would like to think a bit about it, maybe you have some thoughts
Riddle Sideways: let's all answer the 5 hanging questions at the same time ㋡
Maxine Walden: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: we have 5?
Mickorod Renard: would you like to address the questions first before we fire off some more Maxine?
Maxine Walden: gosh, mick, maybe to get a few and see if there is a way to address them together?
Raffila Millgrove: I asked about the future. so that one can be saved til we get past the current....?
Maxine Walden: to respond in an overlapping way?
Aphrodite Macbain: what are the questions?
Bleu Oleander: my interest is in the way your book's ideas can add to and mesh with the ideas of PaB
Mickorod Renard: yes, Raffi was first I think
Raffila Millgrove: yeah but we should save that one.. and stick where we were..
Bleu Oleander: sorry, just put mine in the lineup :)
Aphrodite Macbain looks for the lineup
Bleu Oleander: perhaps we can go around the ring and each ask a question?
Mickorod Renard: good idea
--BELL--
Aphrodite Macbain: nods
Aphrodite Macbain: starting where?
Riddle Sideways: Bleu
Bleu Oleander: ha!
Bleu Oleander: was thinking with Aph
Mickorod Renard: [13:05] Bleu (bleu.oleander): Maxine, did you read any of our comments that took you by surprise or that you would like to address?
Mickorod Renard: just in case
Raffila Millgrove: mm she asked two questions.
Bleu Oleander: ok
Raffila Millgrove: both really good ones.
Bleu Oleander: yes I did
Bleu Oleander: my interest is in the way your book's ideas can add to and mesh with the ideas of PaB
Maxine Walden: perhaps I can offer a thought for the book past, and also for the book in process: it feels useful and humbling to consider that we cannot bear to know all of reality, and so have to shield ourselves from it. Sometimes we can be open to complexity and sometimes not, in which case we revert to black and white reality, as it were.
Maxine Walden: .(still gathering questions, but just offering this frame...)
Bleu Oleander: isn't that due to the limits of our biology?
Mickorod Renard: I always thought it was a limit of our combimed cultures
Maxine Walden: yes, we are wired to view the world according to how we can relate to it, and to begin with that is via impulse and reactivity; much later in evolution we can begin to use our thinking, and be more deliberate, but only when we are not in survival mode. At least that is how I am currently thinking...
Bleu Oleander:we all live in our own version of reality, overlapping where we need to socially and practically
Maxine Walden: but when I feel pressured inside, worried, or overwrought, I revert to simplistic 'this is how it is, black and white, no questions asked'. because at that point I cannot be open and uncertain; it feels too unbearable.
Aphrodite Macbain: I wonder when we will NOT be in survival mode...it seems the world is right now,
Bleu Oleander: do you think its that way to everyone tho?
Mickorod Renard: to thrive either in survival or greed seems to be at the expense of recognition
Raffila Millgrove: yeah remember I am under the desk with my book and not worrying about the bomb drill.
Mickorod Renard: :)
Bleu Oleander: well, to some extent we are always in survival mode, just maybe not consciously addressing it perhaps, but our bodies are
Maxine Walden: And it seems to me that there are aspects of our cultural past, our personal past which are too unbearable to really, thiking of white supremacy being unable to really face that is is based on keeping the black man 'inferior'....those kinds of unbearables
Maxine Walden: or that we are vulnerable to nuclear catastophe...
Maxine Walden: or that my view may be very dismissive and felt to be cruel by someone from a very different culture
Maxine Walden: Now I will shut up and listen :)
Bleu Oleander: can you say what your prescription would be for all going forward in our modern world?
Mickorod Renard: maybe its that 'risk taking' or blinding out..that makes us as a spieces so successful..if thats what we could call it?
Maxine Walden: I am trying to think about that bleu
Bleu Oleander: :) me too
Maxine Walden: and it feels to me that if we can all be more tolerant of what we and others cannot bear to know about;
Maxine Walden: and to see in more human terms than scathing ones, the other person's seeming offenses, etc.
Aphrodite Macbain: It is hard to even talk about what we dont want to face
Maxine Walden: It may be difficult to do, because others may drive us into very polarized positions, from which we can only rant and rave about our rightness and their wrongness
Bleu Oleander: I'm not sure what you don't want to face ... death?
Aphrodite Macbain: nods
Aphrodite Macbain: death and aging perhaps
Bleu Oleander: and taxes hehe
Aphrodite Macbain: and the state of the world
Maxine Walden: Is death hard to face because it seems so absolute,?
Raffila Millgrove: death aging and taxes don't hold a candle t blowing up the world or thinking of others as inferior.
Aphrodite Macbain: It's frightening
Aphrodite Macbain: each of us respond differently and give them different importance
Bleu Oleander: just accept it and try to lead a good life ... easier said than done but sometimes if we can't do anything about something its better to have a strategy to just do the best we can?
Raffila Millgrove: I"ll drop dead any day over going down into a bomb shelter or watching young men die.
Mickorod Renard: I recall Pema saying something like ...trying to see people as if its the first time,,for eg..not buying into previous labaling?..I guess we can extend this towards people carrying issues like stress or trauma?
Aphrodite Macbain: That would take practice Mick :-)
Bleu Oleander: I think Camus' question is ultimately the one :)
--BELL--
Aphrodite Macbain: nods
Maxine Walden: for me, frightening means that I feel scattered and feel I will be lost in space, not that I will still be part of the universe
Aphrodite Macbain: an existentialist stance
Mickorod Renard: we practice living everyday..and never get it right..he he
Raffila Millgrove: that's how i felt during bomb drills. i never changed my position since I read Anne Frank's diary.. all those things are happening now.. the threat of them. I been thru it already. I am trying to take the long view.. that it too will be over.. and we can go forward again more positively.
Aphrodite Macbain: We are told to face our fears rather than avoid the, Invite them to the guest house.
Bleu Oleander: how will you be lost in space Maxine?
Aphrodite Macbain: avoid them
Agatha Macbeth: Hopefully not with Dr Smith
Maxine Walden: There is a wonderful book called Radical Hope, story of the Crow people and their faith in the benevalence of what they could not yet know...I find that quite inspiring
Riddle Sideways: ㋡
Aphrodite Macbain: I think I know what you mean Maxine. feeling lost without any certainty about anything
Maxine Walden: yes, aph, can be very frightening
Bleu Oleander: but we can't be certain about anything, can we?
Aphrodite Macbain: It's easier if you are a natural optimist
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Raffila Millgrove: some of us have grandchildren. i think we are lucky cause we can be happy so easily just be being with them. and forget the rest for a time.
Aphrodite Macbain: sings "always look at the bright side of life"
Maxine Walden: no, being ok with uncertainty, accepting that reality is far more vast than we can know...so at peace with uncertainty, but faith in a kind of benevalent universe
Agatha Macbeth: Don't worry be happy
Mickorod Renard: having faith sounds so religious..not that thats a bad thing,,but I think its not such a bad practice anyway,,
Aphrodite Macbain: depends on what u have faith in Mick'
Bleu Oleander: accept uncertainty ... who said the universe was benevalent? :)
Maxine Walden: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: I believe that most people are basically good
Mickorod Renard: yes, that soung is a regular chant for me...and often it is just a way of thinking
Aphrodite Macbain: which is a sort of faith
Raffila Millgrove: Maxine said the Crow people believed the unknown was benevolent.
Bleu Oleander: that might be their belief, but is it justified?
Maxine Walden: the young men had the visions/dreams that only the elders could interpret. Their view was geared to a basically benevalent universe, I believe
Raffila Millgrove: you think a belief or faith must be justified. that's the handy thing about faith. you don't have to justify it. it just is.
Aphrodite Macbain: How can you justify such a thing Bleu?
Aphrodite Macbain: A leap of faith - is without justification
Bleu Oleander: well why would you want to cling to a belief that wasn't justified?
Aphrodite Macbain: Many do
Maxine Walden: sometimes it feels wise to be doubtful, and sometimes it is
Bleu Oleander: I know
Raffila Millgrove: faith is incredibly handy. you can leap or cling or take solace.. it's very handy to have it.
Aphrodite Macbain: They seem happier...
Aphrodite Macbain: I wish I were
Aphrodite Macbain: It seems to me a right brain rather than left brain response
Bleu Oleander: belief in something I can't justify doesn't do much for me
Raffila Millgrove: I have been studying people who lose their children. adult children die. The parents with faith are the ones who seem to be able to take it better than those without.
Aphrodite Macbain: Nods
Tura Brezoianu: I look at faith as reason's defence against the passions, rather than the other way round
Maxine Walden: I still feel inspired by Pema's encouragement to view our worries and certainties as puffs of breeze, opening us to the moment (or so I recall)
Aphrodite Macbain: It is perhaps a more emotional rather than rational response
Catrinamonblue Resident: like's Tura's thought :)
Aphrodite Macbain: yes :-)
Catrinamonblue Resident: faith is like a 9 second pause maybe?
Catrinamonblue Resident: *90
Maxine Walden: 'Reason's defence against the passions...' Tura, can you say more?
Bleu Oleander: what do you all mean by "faith"?
Aphrodite Macbain: Does that mean that rational people and those who need to justify their beliefs are less happy?
Mickorod Renard: listens
Bleu Oleander: I don't think so Aph
Aphrodite Macbain: Perhaps less content...
Tura Brezoianu: you might rationally decide, say, to go to the gym more often, and then when the moment comes round, hold to that decision instead of listening to the "uh, don't wanna" voice.
Aphrodite Macbain: sounds like my voice
Maxine Walden: ah, good example, thanks, tura
Bleu Oleander: so where does faith come into that decision?
Aphrodite Macbain: I suppose we have to be more specific. Faith in what?
Bleu Oleander: yes
Mickorod Renard: the faith that the gym will be good for you
Aphrodite Macbain: I can believe that but still not go
Aphrodite Macbain: I have faith in the basic goodness of people but not in the existence of god
Bleu Oleander: I don't think that's faith tho or at least its a very trivial version of faith, you could say you have the knowledge that going to the gym would be good for you
Mickorod Renard: each time I went to gym it buggered some bit of me up
Tura Brezoianu: on the one hand you have the voice that goes "this is a good idea, for reasons XYZ", and the "uhh" voice. Faith is an extra weight on one side fo the scales.
Tura Brezoianu: It gives you temporal coherence.
Aphrodite Macbain: nice phrase
Mickorod Renard: I like that Tura, yes
Tura Brezoianu: a "self" that endures over time instead of blowing with the momentary winds
--BELL--
Tura Brezoianu: (scrolls back to reread what Pema said about gusts...)
Aphrodite Macbain: But our self also changes every moment
Mickorod Renard: but you could have faith in the winds?
Mickorod Renard: he he
Bleu Oleander: it feels like we're using the "faith" word too loosely and meaning many different concepts ... perhaps that's why I'm not understanding the meaning here ... sorry, I'll just listen :)
Aphrodite Macbain: I wonder whether there are other questions people have of Maxine...
Catrinamonblue Resident: listens to loud cracks or thunder hear in RL with bright sunshine outside!!! What strange weather we are having
Riddle Sideways: are we still on Bleu's first question?
Bleu Oleander: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: not sure
Bleu Oleander: we got away from it a bit :)
Catrinamonblue Resident: of* here*
Mickorod Renard: Can anyone remember another question?
Maxine Walden: current thoughts about what is so good about PaB and bodes well for its future: the mutual regard and respect for one another, refrain from hieratchy of knowledge/wisdom; really listening to one another (as possible) and allowing our minds to be changed by what we hear from the other. Not holding onto one's viewpoint too tightly out of fear of being seen as less than
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Maxine Walden: if we feel influenced by another and wishing to now change our mind
Mickorod Renard: thats poinient Maxine, as I was going to ask you whether you could see a direction we as a group could move in and develope?
Aphrodite Macbain: I find these discussions are very affirming, knowing we all have similar ideas and concerns
Maxine Walden: For me that is the richness of true dialogue: being willing to be influenced and thus uncertain, rather than holding onto our truth as Our (Absolute) Truth.
Aphrodite Macbain: nods
Maxine Walden: And keeping the atmosphere of play (Pema;s Play but play as lightness of spirit too)
Bleu Oleander: PaB as a tool to learn how to communicate with each other?
Maxine Walden: Also, gratitude for this wonderful and generative community!
Aphrodite Macbain nods at Bleu
Maxine Walden: yes, bleu
Aphrodite Macbain: I hope I've learned something though I still persist in interrupting
Maxine Walden: and perhaps keeping the quiet thought that maybe the warmth, gratitude and humility (in a good way) that coes from this community will impact us and our communities in ways we may not be abe to imagine
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Mickorod Renard: he he Aph, you interupt just at the right time when we all want to ask that same question
Raffila Millgrove: well i will interrupt myself then like the hostess spilling the red wine when her guest does it... for Aph. I want to request that my question at the top of hour.. How is the new book coming--and "who"... are the influences for it? is covered. I want to read ahead on the influencers.. lol
Aphrodite Macbain: smiles- that's generous of you to say Mick
Aphrodite Macbain: good question Raffi
Riddle Sideways: oooo advanced spoilers
Maxine Walden: I will have to go in a minute or so. Just a note about the current book in process: againg about reality we can bear but also hopefully the realization that when we become polarized we lose touh with our humanity, becoming more reactive and 'certain'; it narrows our mind. Takes work to stay open and receptive, rather than reactive...
Mickorod Renard: Maxine, it would be sad should you leave us forever. could you perhaps consider coming to see us from time to time?
Aphrodite Macbain: nods
Maxine Walden: I would love to come by, time to time. would that be OK with others? An occasional Maxine visit?
Bleu Oleander: would love that Maxine
Aphrodite Macbain: Please do!
Catrinamonblue Resident: yes yes (jumps up and down!!)
Raffila Millgrove: wow you do not have to ask! we love it when you come!!!1
Maxine Walden: thank you all so much; it is such a warming thing to come and be with you! I'll be back, soon.
Raffila Millgrove: yay
Tura Brezoianu: thank you Maxine
Maxine Walden: I had better go. Best wishes for now
Catrinamonblue Resident: thank you Maxine :)
Agatha Macbeth: It's a warming thing to see you
Bleu Oleander: thank you Maxine! take care .. til next time :)
Riddle Sideways: yes please do. and there might might be a Dream thang soon
Mickorod Renard: thank you Maxine
Mickorod Renard: go well
Agatha Macbeth: A dream thang!
Agatha Macbeth: Yay
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: Poof!
Raffila Millgrove: I knew she was going to leave at the 55 minute mark. she always does, must be her training as a psychiatrist. lol and of course I didn't get any name so I could look up the works ahead of time. lol
Riddle Sideways: top of the hour ... the doctor poofs
Raffila Millgrove: nope.
Aphrodite Macbain: lol
Mickorod Renard: :)
Raffila Millgrove: it's the 55 minute mark.
Aphrodite Macbain: next patient?.....
Raffila Millgrove: yep
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Mickorod Renard: well, that went well I think
Tura Brezoianu: "The Fifty-Minute Hour" :)
Aphrodite Macbain: Yes
Raffila Millgrove: it's so funny. but she did it everytime in dream workshop and every time here that she's come.
Agatha Macbeth: It's her dinner hour I think
Raffila Millgrove: yes.
Aphrodite Macbain: How observant of you Raffi
Raffila Millgrove: well it's cool. no complaints. i just find it amusing.
Bleu Oleander: she's been very generous with her time with us
Raffila Millgrove: and i KNEW i would not get.... any name to read ahead. i just knew it.
Raffila Millgrove: too bad i can't bet with myself.
Aphrodite Macbain: lol
Mickorod Renard: ha ha
Agatha Macbeth: You can - and win
Aphrodite Macbain: I forgot to think about questions
Raffila Millgrove: well i won.
Aphrodite Macbain: yayy
Agatha Macbeth: There ya go
Mickorod Renard: if we keep this up we will be able to write our own books soon
Raffila Millgrove: it's cool Aph.. we bombarded her.. but i think we did cover them all. i am so sorry Bruce had technical difficulties.
Agatha Macbeth nods
Aphrodite Macbain: me too
Agatha Macbeth: Hope Liz is OK too
--BELL--
Mickorod Renard: yes, that was sad..as he has been so ..in it
Catrinamonblue Resident: yes I hope so too
Bleu Oleander: gotta run ... take care all
Mickorod Renard: and Liz too
Aphrodite Macbain: I'm sure he's frustrated
Mickorod Renard: bye Bleu
Agatha Macbeth: She's stocked up on provisions anyway
Mickorod Renard: ty
Catrinamonblue Resident: Bye Bleu
Raffila Millgrove: well she will come again.. so we can.. still.. get their questions in.. i think tho they both have so much to say.. to offer..

Raffila Millgrove: but they can do it next time.
Aphrodite Macbain: Hope Liz is going to be ok with those hurricanes
Catrinamonblue Resident: I need to get going too :)
Tura Brezoianu: do we know what the timescale for this new book coming out is?
Mickorod Renard: ok Cat, take care

Aphrodite Macbain: Guess not
Catrinamonblue Resident: Bye everyone :)
