Riddle Sideways: Morning Adams
Adams Rubble: Good morning Riddle :)
Adams Rubble: Happy Tuesday
Riddle Sideways: It is a Happy Thisday
Riddle Sideways: gets light much earlier
Adams Rubble: yes and still very cool
Riddle Sideways: did not rain. Radio said it was going to rain
Adams Rubble: it will change here by the end of the week
Riddle Sideways: Welcome Kor
Korel Laloix: Osiyo
Adams Rubble: Hello Korel
Riddle Sideways: great to see you again
Korel Laloix smiles
Korel Laloix: Nice to be getting back into SL.
Riddle Sideways: were ya can walk around and be close to people
Korel Laloix: There is that part of it for sure...
Korel Laloix: Just nice to connect with some people that I missed.
Korel Laloix: And get back to learning in SL as well.
Riddle Sideways: yes! mostly that
Riddle Sideways: what are you studying?
Korel Laloix: Teleworking is getting old though.
Korel Laloix: My PhD is going to be in Epidemiology /
Korel Laloix: Long and slow process.. but not in a hurry.
Riddle Sideways: now have RL friends complaining about having to go back to Work ㋡ with conditions
Riddle Sideways: Timely subject
Korel Laloix: Learned a lot over the last couple of months for sure.
Riddle Sideways: the world learned/studied it over the last few months
Korel Laloix: WE will see.... at this point, there seems to be more studying than learning.
Riddle Sideways: ha, yes
Korel Laloix: It might take a few years to fully figure things out... the politics and rushed nature of things has produced some really bad data distortions.
Adams Rubble: Governments have been using it to divide us when the very nature shows how we all are connected
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: Not just governments though... political parties, media, special interests.
Riddle Sideways: the not sharing of data or sharing of the warped data or rushed incomplete data
Korel Laloix: It is more complicated than that it seems.
Riddle Sideways: some countries not sharing or making the numbers be zero
Korel Laloix: I dial into this teleconference of data-scientist
Riddle Sideways: Viet Nam
Korel Laloix: Yes
Riddle Sideways: /listens
Korel Laloix: The last one, they were talking about three very pristine, well done data sets. One from Kansas, France and I think Malaysia.
Korel Laloix: And they had a hard time concluding it was the same disease.... but the tested results show they were.
Korel Laloix: So good luck to them figuring it out.
Korel Laloix: But in a larger picture, I do see some good signs in possible long-term adjustments
Korel Laloix: But only time will tell.
Riddle Sideways: add to that poorly done data sets
Korel Laloix: But a lot of the poor data is ..... excusable... giving how stressed some locations where...
Korel Laloix: ANd very conflicting guidance.
Riddle Sideways: which leassons could be learned from
Korel Laloix: Well, several states are already modifying their K=12 curicula to includes some basics.
Riddle Sideways: and several states will not
Korel Laloix: And there are some states that also starting, usually through their National Guard, stockpiling domestically produced PPE.
Korel Laloix: Possibly... but I don't have data on that.
Korel Laloix: I am optimistic though.... maybe naive. But hey... I like to think we have some instinct for survival...
Korel Laloix: And the human race has survived far far worse epidemics than this.
Riddle Sideways: yes
Korel Laloix: So I am sure we will figure this one out as well.
Riddle Sideways: sorry to be the pessimistic one today, but will the learned lessons be remembered?
Riddle Sideways: poof, Kori crashed
Riddle Sideways: welcome back
Korel Laloix: Time to get a new computer.
Korel Laloix: I think it is more a matter of remembering what we learned in the past.. and realizing that it is applicable to today.
Riddle Sideways: It is and has been confusing with a World Health Org saying one thing, a National saying another, a State saying yet another, this county saying other things
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: probably told story last week, but still amazed at doctor relative that was just starting out when HIV patients were entering hostpitals
Korel Laloix: It is looking like the WHO clearly failed on the Data side... and any recommendations from them will have to be looked at for sure. Our decision to invest in them and reduce our domestic capability turned out to be a less than great decision.. in hindsight.
Riddle Sideways: and they did not know what to wear, touch or help
Korel Laloix: OH yes.. lots of unknowns.
Adams Rubble: I think it is simpler than people are making it. There is a disease that many of us are not immune to, that is spread by person to person contact. Some people get very sick and die. they are someone's father or mother or son or daughter and people feel a great loss about their loved one's dying
Korel Laloix: Yes.. flu it a regular part of our world.
Adams Rubble: People have agendas and want to use the virus to work with their agendas
Korel Laloix: NEver let a crises go to waste.
Adams Rubble: we need to care about people dying in madagascar as much as people dying in Richmind
Adams Rubble: we are in this together
Korel Laloix: The whole information environment during this thing has been astounding.
Korel Laloix: Exactly
Adams Rubble: and yes, the human race survived the Black death so no worries about the species surviving
Adams Rubble: who knew it was the lice from the rats
Korel Laloix: For out part, when a vaccine is finally made, the contracts to provide vaccines for a third of the planet are in place... just hope that does not get warped into something else.
Korel Laloix: I think next time we will be able to handle it better.
Adams Rubble: :)
Korel Laloix: I hope to don't get the chance to be proven right or wrong though.
Riddle Sideways: was it Dr. Jonas Salk that put forth the notion that surgeons needed to wash their hands
Korel Laloix: That sounds right... but I don't remember exactly
Korel Laloix: The road to medical and household hygiene was a windy one for sure.
Korel Laloix: But it has also been overdone in some parts of the world.
Riddle Sideways: well we saw bidding wars between countries to buy PPE and medical equipment
Korel Laloix: There is a growing body of data that suggest that the rise of allergies and azma may be linked to excessively sterile living conditions.
Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: nothing about the increase of pollutants in the air?
Adams Rubble: and in our food?
Korel Laloix: And China was sneeky about it.. buying stuff and shipping it back there before really letting the world know it was needed.
Korel Laloix: THere is that part as well.
Korel Laloix: It took us a long time to figure out lead and mercury were bad things...
Korel Laloix: So I am sure there will be long term things from our present living conditions that we won't figure out for generations.
Riddle Sideways: lead pipes were so useful in towns and houses though
Korel Laloix: Just like pesticides are useful now.
Korel Laloix: And GM crops.
Korel Laloix: But the long-term... is what we don't know yet.
Riddle Sideways: All that stuff is good now
Korel Laloix: Might be great later.. might not be.
Riddle Sideways: pesky over Regulations need to be gotten rid of
Korel Laloix: lol
Korel Laloix: I just think we need to do a better job of monitoring.
Korel Laloix: And have a public discussion about the risks.
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: But, people like cheap food with no insect damage... so hey.
Riddle Sideways: Ah, the starting/releasing of Contact monitoring apps and governments
Riddle Sideways: no problems there
Korel Laloix: If you have a smart phone, at least one corporation know almost everything about you.
Korel Laloix: Amazing what we agree to trade in exchange for convenience..
Riddle Sideways: oh dear, hate having looked it up, but the Pandemic may be the reason the numbers of Mass Shooting are down
Korel Laloix: Not to make light of that, but another interesting thing about social distancing is the crime shift.
Korel Laloix: Many crimes are up, many are down.
Riddle Sideways: (also sorry to make light) the stealing of toilet paper probably way up
Korel Laloix: lol.. not seen any data on that one.
Adams Rubble: I hope you have a great day. Bye for now
Korel Laloix: Ciao
Riddle Sideways: by Adams
Korel Laloix: And I am starting work in 8 mins.
Korel Laloix: So take care
Korel Laloix: Thanks for the chat.
Riddle Sideways: ok, thanks for the chat
Riddle Sideways: always thoughtful
Riddle Sideways: was in a pretty good positive mood just an hour ago.
Riddle Sideways: funny how these session can alter one's mood, frame, attitudes, viewpoints
Riddle Sideways: some good and some better
Riddle Sideways: If you need toilet paper, Riddle has some for you at the corner of plot
Riddle Sideways: and make sure you wash in the Rainbird sprinkler
Riddle Sideways: by All
