Adams Rubble: Hello Riddle :)
Adams Rubble: I was going to say I don't see you but there you are
Riddle Sideways: Morning Adams
Riddle Sideways: was looking at the new tea house
Adams Rubble: I just finished a long blog entry
Riddle Sideways: that appeared
Adams Rubble: new tea house?
Riddle Sideways: to the north
Adams Rubble: I see it
Riddle Sideways: Bleu put up a little tea hut
Riddle Sideways: well big, because most tea houses are really small
Riddle Sideways: you had or have a tea house?
Riddle Sideways: remember it not so well
Adams Rubble: my camera is all off
Riddle Sideways: ?
Adams Rubble: I have a little open on one sidemeditation shelter
Adams Rubble: The # 1 part of my entry today might be a good topic unless you habve something you would like to discuss
Adams Rubble: my camera got stuck at the hut
Riddle Sideways: kicking email. Ah, there it is. was nothing new until now
Adams Rubble: I will have to edit the dreams. I rushed it out
Riddle Sideways: reading
Riddle Sideways: reading slow and repeating to do a think
Riddle Sideways: the quote is saying that the past is not in (a) space (that it might have been once)
Riddle Sideways: yet our minds try to 'recreate' some history into the same place
Adams Rubble: I will put the quote in the log:
Adams Rubble: “Taking a third approach, we could focus on the difference between the present on the one hand and the past and future on the other. The present in its immediate intimacy could be understood as the direct presence of space. The past and future cannot be found within space. They stand outside the gate of being.” Tarthung Tulku’s Knowledge of Time and Space (Oakland, Dharma Press, 1990), p. 10
Riddle Sideways: thank you
--BELL--
Adams Rubble: our experience with space is in the present
Riddle Sideways: yes
Riddle Sideways: let's take that tone for a while
Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: the past and future are in our minds
Adams Rubble: like a movie
Riddle Sideways: there becomes a mental exercise, at remembering the sofa Being over there
Riddle Sideways: or how the movie might go If the sofa were against that wall
Adams Rubble: Pema might say the present is like a movie but he is not talking about time I think
Riddle Sideways: movie as Presentation
Adams Rubble: my internet is getting shaky so I may didappear
Adams Rubble: disappear
Adams Rubble: so far just flashing off and on
Riddle Sideways: hmmm, prophetic weirdo says "it might happen to any of us" ㋡
Adams Rubble: I remember Stim urging us to live in the rpesent
Riddle Sideways: remembering so many urging that
Adams Rubble: and I remember using the 90 seconds to try to make sure i was in the present
Adams Rubble: tough job for an historian
Adams Rubble: but usually the problem is worrying about the future
Adams Rubble: squirreling away our nuts
Riddle Sideways: remembering a martial arts instructor slapping this head and saying to stop being elsewhere
Adams Rubble: ooooooo
Adams Rubble: good to be elsewhere when dentist drilling for oil in your mouth
Riddle Sideways: even almost 'in the present' one can stand behind oneself and judge, watch, laugh
Adams Rubble: especially in SL :)
Riddle Sideways: is ok in SL to stand behind watching yerself walk off a clief
Adams Rubble giggles
Riddle Sideways: in a present there is a new tea house that has appeared
Adams Rubble: or drive a four horse chariot out of the circus maximus into the sea
Riddle Sideways: remembering that it was a field of grass with rabbits
Adams Rubble: the passage seemed so profound when I read it last night
Riddle Sideways: it still is this morning
Riddle Sideways: however, reading a passage and drifting off into (thought, dreams, sleep, contemplation)
Riddle Sideways: adds so much
Riddle Sideways: a tip to add to your practice is to rest the heavy book on a lap or bed when drifting off ㋡
Riddle Sideways: so it does not fall to the floor
--BELL--
Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: This has been a new thing for me
Riddle Sideways: this might be one of the most personal exercises practiced, nearly daily
Riddle Sideways: nightly
Adams Rubble: have to be careful with my Kindle
Riddle Sideways: yes
Riddle Sideways: noting that it is a certain type of reading that does that
Riddle Sideways: the wind down, pleasure reading. That seems ok to drift off the page into ones own invented, lived, wished, tried story
Riddle Sideways: Fact reading needs full attention ! ㋡
Riddle Sideways: hmmm, levels of reading
Adams Rubble: that sounds right
Riddle Sideways: Now then. Keep being drawn back to the quote's end sentence. in which being is a present space
Adams Rubble: feed your mind well
Riddle Sideways: which is in line with the sentiment being said
Adams Rubble: being with a small b
Adams Rubble: werb to be
Adams Rubble: verb
Riddle Sideways: where Large B Being
Adams Rubble: living in space
Riddle Sideways: is living at the End
Riddle Sideways: right now
Riddle Sideways: and is probably a made up reality (?)
Riddle Sideways: no
Adams Rubble: no
Riddle Sideways: Be There Now
Adams Rubble: we don't see everything
Adams Rubble: yes be there now
Riddle Sideways: nice book title
Adams Rubble: to be there now or not to be there now
Riddle Sideways: looks to see if Ram Dass has writen that yet
Riddle Sideways: that is the question
Riddle Sideways: you are therefore commanded to Be There Now
Riddle Sideways: or how about we Be There NOw
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: and Timing of pauses is important
Riddle Sideways: ㋡
Adams Rubble: frequent pauses help us see
Adams Rubble: a rival faction forms holding up signs saying "Be Here Now"
Riddle Sideways: nah, have been with that faction before
Adams Rubble giggles
Riddle Sideways: yep
Riddle Sideways: take frequent pauses to review what you just read
Riddle Sideways: think deeply
Riddle Sideways: close eyes to shut out distractional cats
Riddle Sideways: but, come back when book hits the floor
Adams Rubble: my eyes keep closing because they are sore and I start to drift off
Adams Rubble: the book shouts "Be present!"
Adams Rubble: in space
Riddle Sideways: yes, Book Sir
Riddle Sideways: take this present that is given
Riddle Sideways: (or maybe) As Given
Adams Rubble: There's a lot more Tarthang Tulku where that came from
Riddle Sideways: do you think it is an accident that the word present(now) and present(gift) are the same?
Adams Rubble: the etimological dictionary would tell ya
Adams Rubble: mine are upstairs
Adams Rubble: the print on my OED is too small for me to see with a magnifying glass anymore
Riddle Sideways: probably could waste the time finding out, but Play is more fun
Adams Rubble: have to photograph a section and blow it up
Adams Rubble: I am going to have to go at the hour
Riddle Sideways: yes. can hear RL moving around and getting ready
Riddle Sideways: so many presents coming today
Adams Rubble: :)))
Riddle Sideways: will have hours in a car to see new presents
Adams Rubble: I am going to look it up and hopefully remember to tell you
Riddle Sideways: or is that spelt "here is a presence"
Adams Rubble: maybe I'll put it in the comments
Adams Rubble: or edit it in
Riddle Sideways: which ever the editor or other avatar wants to do
Both words derice from the Old French "present" from the Latin praesentem "being at hand". In 14th century Middle English it took on the meaning "abiding in a specified place". Present as a gift comes from the Old French "present" but from Middle Latin "presentia". It is something brought into someone's presence.
Adams Rubble: I hope you have a wonderful weekend
Riddle Sideways: been planned for months
Adams Rubble: :)
Riddle Sideways: sounds like you might also be off onto the next planned presents
Adams Rubble: mine is yet unplanned
Adams Rubble: but waiting for the car to get fixed again
Riddle Sideways: one of those "go to this place and wait"
Adams Rubble: it developed a rhythic banging in the rear on the NJ Turnpike - counting the bangs on the NJ Turnpike
Riddle Sideways singing along
Adams Rubble: have a zoom mtg in an hour
Riddle Sideways: the NY turnpikes have that thump built in
Adams Rubble: hehe
Adams Rubble: so does the NY Governor
Riddle Sideways: hehehe
--BELL--
Adams Rubble: well take good care Riddle :)
Riddle Sideways: ok, be good, be safe and go on with life
Riddle Sideways: by All
Adams Rubble: bye
