The Guardian for this meeting was Riddle Sideways. The comments are by Riddle Sideways.
Riddle Sideways: where did that topic go too?
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: had one last night before bed.
Riddle Sideways: did not write it down :(
Riddle Sideways: Watched a 'Making of Tommy' documentary last night.
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: welcome Alice
AliceB Resident: it is good to be here
Riddle Sideways: Tommy is The Who's rock Opera (written by Pete Townsend)
Riddle Sideways: highly influenced by readings of Meher Baba
AliceB Resident: would that also be the source of Baba O'Reilly ? :)
Riddle Sideways: Probably
Riddle Sideways: What came clear last night was how Joseph Campbell's Hero Journey (and other writings and lectures) explain all epic stories.
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: small tragic boy grows through great adventures to enlightenment, becomes spiritual leader
Riddle Sideways: the masses embrace for a while then move on to the next spiritual fad.
Riddle Sideways: Since the opera is also Rock-n-Roll it can't be just sung along standard lines.
Riddle Sideways: it has to twist through bazaar stories and episodes
Riddle Sideways: that add up to Tommy's mind being free
Riddle Sideways: has a great following of others that want to know what and how
Riddle Sideways: they pay lots of money to go to a camp, put on blindfolds, ear plugs and play pinball.
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: How simple it is to notice that all Epic stories follow those same lines that Joseph Campbell summarized
Riddle Sideways: And how misunderstanding followers are quick to try the exact same path that worked for their new leader.
Riddle Sideways: Following their hero's Personal Path would also bring them enlightenment, without getting personal and doing the creative work.
