    2009.10.22 13:00 - "Fast" asleep

    http://playasbeing.wik.is/Chat_Logs/...Fast%22_asleep

More discussion of dream paralysis, which Fox had presented on at Maxine's Dream Workshop. Dreaming / waking /interweaving...

Fox Monacular: we found in one of our studies that people who are distressed by presence hallucinations
Fox Monacular: also fear being observed in waking life
Fox Monacular: and imagine more 'presences' in waking life too
Fox Monacular: for instance they are more prone to imagining faces in ambiguous shapes
Fox Monacular: also, distress related to sleep paralysis was connected to distress related to nightmares and to social anxiety
Fox Monacular: as if there was a popensity for this experiences of 'others' as traumaticMickorod Renard: yes, i can imagine
Fox Monacular: but then there are people who have a lot of nightmares and sleep paralysis ans are not traumatised

Qt Core: my dream and dream remembering level is a sure misure of the mental fatigue i had in the previous day, i almost don't dream usually
Qt Core: but the harder the day the weirder the dreams

Wake up and the dream gets weird...

Qt Core: sometimes i feel about being the spectator not just be the one seeing the dream and usually when that happen the dream start going weird and weird until i refuse to follow it anymore and awoke
arabella Ella: i can recognise that feeling too Qt
Mickorod Renard: my awake life is like that QT
    Vendy Walpole: :)
Qt Core: i usually end up with a feeling that is humorous about the weird but angry at the too weird part

Bolonath Crystal: we create the world while we are awake, by putting together perceptions. dreams are made more or less the same way. i am not really sure that the difference is as big as we think
arabella Ella: and i think it was poincaire who came up with the idea of the benzine ring while asleep as he saw a snake bite its tail
Mickorod Renard: I read the other day that many were hypercondiacs too
Mickorod Renard: they used illness to create a reason to stay in bed and during that time wrote#
Fox Monacular: I think that dreaming and waking are not really separate things
Fox Monacular: there are many stories of insights in dreaming, quite amaxing
Mickorod Renard: where do u think it comes from fox?
Fox Monacular: well, sleep and dreaming have something to do with memory consolidation
Mickorod Renard: I wondered if there is a connection open during sleep between others
Fox Monacular: there are many studies now showing that
arabella Ella: could you expand on memory consolidation please Fox?
Qt Core: pieces of day's experiences being randomly connected in the brain and sometimes the connections make sense

    2009.10.23 07:00 - Coffee is Rajas

    http://playasbeing.wik.is/Chat_Logs/...offee_is_Rajas

The Guardian for this meeting was sophia Placebo. The comments are by sophia Placebo.

this had been a light session and short one ! but what was intersting is the word rajas which is almost same word Quran used to describe alcohol !

Bolonath Crystal: samsara (the illusionary dualistic world) consists of three main characteristics, called gunas

Bolonath Crystal: they are named tamas, rajas and sattva

Bolonath Crystal: tamas is heavyness, rajas is dynamics and sattva is clearness

Bolonath Crystal: to transcendend samsara and reach enlightenment yogis support their sattva

Bolonath Crystal: sattva is said to be the gate to nirvana

sophia Placebo: what is tamas i mean can you give example ?

Bolonath Crystal: the gunas don't exist isolated for themselves. everything consists of all three of them. but in different amounts

Bolonath Crystal: so when i say something is tamas, i mean that tamas is very strong in it

    sophia Placebo nods

Bolonath Crystal: tamas food for example is meat or eggs

    Bolonath Crystal: or unripe fruits

    Bolonath Crystal: alcohol

Bolonath Crystal: all the things that make you fall asleep in meditation

Bolonath Crystal: rajas food makes the mind unpeaceful. so coffee makes it difficult to reach a deep meditation level

Bolonath Crystal: sattva would be perfect. ripe fruits, veggies, salad, milk, cereals and so on

    sophia Placebo: i see

sophia Placebo: so it is all about food

Bolonath Crystal: that'S why many yogis are vegetarian and don't drink alcohol

Bolonath Crystal: it is not only about food. food was just an example

    sophia Placebo: ok

Bolonath Crystal: it is about everything

Bolonath Crystal: kind of cosmology, i guess

Bolonath Crystal: do you know the yin-yang concept? you can look at tamas as yin, rajas as yang and sattva as the balance between them. roughly.

    http://playasbeing.wik.is/index.php?...%22Civility%22

The Guardian for this meeting was Scathach Rhiadra. The comments are by Scathach Rhiadra:

The session began slowly, then a conversation aout music and spirituality developed.  This was somewhat derailed by the apparent need of one of the participants to be gratuitously insulting.   While the remark could be considered more silly and childish than offensive, it cetainly coloured the rest of the session, and I hope the sudden departure of some of the other participants, soon after this, was coincidental (I crashed and did not realise what had happened until later).    Whether he should have been ejected or not is debatable, but he certainly got a warning......

Includes some discussion about music, what effect Leonard Cohen's Mt Baldy Zen monastery experience had on him.
