Trawling the logs for this month produced some real gems.

2010.07.07 01:00 -Swami Muktananda and thoughts about time
Bolonath Crystal: great. i'll give you a notecard with some basic infos. just a moment please
Oona Ra: At the moment i am pondering the state of being timeless
Bolonath Crystal: time is a fascinating concept :)
    Oona Ra: yes
Oona Ra: two forms of time psychological and cronological
Oona Ra: timeless is of course in the psychological being
Bolonath Crystal: our mind basically consists of two things: awareness and memory. some memories are projected into what we call past and some into the future
Oona Ra: so thats what is facinating me at the moment
Bolonath Crystal: but all of that happens only "now"
Oona Ra: I think the mind contains many events

    --BELL--

Bolonath Crystal: i don't know if something like a chronological time actually exists
Oona Ra: past, present and future all in the moment and each moment eases into the next.
Bolonath Crystal: i'm not even sure, what "present" is...
Oona Ra: we could debate that but why bother
Bolonath Crystal: it is an interesting phenomenon
Oona Ra: you cant pin down the present its moving
Bolonath Crystal: the past is tremendously long, but doesn't really exist. the future is the same. only present exists, but present is pretty short, isn't it?
Bolonath Crystal: does present have a chonological dimension?
Oona Ra: time is just another man made invention really
Bolonath Crystal: yes. a very confusing one
Oona Ra: like any other form of measurement
Oona Ra: experiencing a timeless state has a degree of freedom
Bolonath Crystal: if time doesn't really exist, is then somthing like reincarnation possible?
Oona Ra: something else that interests me is freedom
    Bolonath Crystal: freedom from what?
    Oona Ra: the self
Bolonath Crystal: freedom from self? who will be free then?
Oona Ra: have to find out what the self is first
    Bolonath Crystal nods

    2010.07.07 07:00 - Being? What Being?

Amazing how often one tends to find people from other walks of SL turning up at PaB. Pamala, who I know from another group, arrives at the Pavilion....

Darren Islar: Being seeing seems to be far away (though I do now it is there a lot of moments in time)
Darren Islar: sure, I thought we were already there :))
Pamala Clift: Smile.. I came in the middle so pardon me if I speak out of place
    Pema Pera: please to, Pamala!
Pamala Clift: I teach a class called State of Being here in SL
Pamala Clift: that talks about how to perceive our virtual world along with our rl
Pamala Clift: I put random compartments on the perception
Pamala Clift: dissassociative, immersive, & augmentative
Pamala Clift: all valid states of being except in conflict
Pamala Clift: cause we only see and believe otheres see the same way we do
Pamala Clift: what I heard you say when I came in
Pamala Clift: is that you seperate.. to look and watch yourself
    Pamala Clift: is that correct?
    Darren Islar: no
Darren Islar: there is a technique in which you can do a step aside, and still being in the experience
Darren Islar: but you do touch a more subtle level there
    Eliza Madrigal: (wb Sharon) :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: (so sorry, lost internet access)
Darren Islar: because when do you know you don't dissociate
    Darren Islar: wb Sharon
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :) ty
Darren Islar: but becoming aware is not being dissociative
Pamala Clift: well I can see why that is a little difficult to assimilate.. you watch yes, and stepping aside ...whoops my appt is here..
Pamala Clift: I do wish to come again if I may and understand ty for allowing me audience

Darren Islar: I guess my real question is: when does ego think that it sees Being or when do 'I' see Being for real?
Darren Islar: I miss the tools
Pema Pera: my answer is to at some point drop all tools . . . . .

No session with Pema present is ever boring!

Pema Pera: let me try to give another little story, in an attempt to clarify why I feel so comfortable with uncertainty these days
Pema Pera: imagine that you didn't know the notion of "space"
Pema Pera: you only knew about "locations"
Pema Pera: then you might be very worried about changing any location of any object
Bertram Jacobus: (hy everybody) ... :-)
Pema Pera: for all you know, you might lose the objects or something terrible might happen
    Darren Islar: hi Bert
    Bruce Mowbray: G'day Bert.
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bertram :)
Pema Pera: but once you get familiar with space, you realize that because of the presense of space, there is room for changing locations
Pema Pera: now in a somewhat similar way, there is a kind of "space" for insights too
Pema Pera: and like physical space, you can't see it -- but can get familiar with it, learning to trust it

2010.07.07 13:00 - SF, World cup and Avatar rendering costs

Some things you find in PaB logs just defy all comprehension...

Xeno Octavia: i red book on grotesque he had horrid car accident and almost to death burned then ib hospital met his 700 yr old girlfriend was a kkool book

Er, quite.  As Harold MacMillan once famously said 'Can I have the translation please?'

    2010.07.07 19:00 - SL avatar was Stationary

There exists a session for this ID but there are no lines recorded. A guardian (stevenaia Michinaga) was present but no-one said a thing.

Silence is golden, but the logs still see...

    2010.07.08 01:00 - Pain, Death and Christianity

This one affected me particularly.  I am only sorry space prevents me reproducing it in full

Zen Arado: Hi Star, Hi Moon :)
    Stargate Tone: Hello Zen *
    Moon Fargis: morning zen :)
    Zen Arado: how are you?
    Moon Fargis: im ok :)
    Moon Fargis: and you ?
Zen Arado: ah not very good atm
Zen Arado: I have an ulcer that is painful
Zen Arado: I had it 3 years ago and it just came back
    Moon Fargis: oh not good
Zen Arado: I went to doctor yesterday and he gave me antibiotics
    Stargate Tone: oh...
Zen Arado: so it will heal again soon I hope

Zen Arado: we don't appreciate our health enough

Moon Fargis: well its human to start to appreciate the things we had, when they are gone
    Zen Arado: yes
Stargate Tone: cannot help thinking this morning...my ex-'s visit...as he now appreciated me...
    Stargate Tone: very highly even
Zen Arado: yes that's another thing - you only miss people when they are gone
Zen Arado: we should try being thankful each day for all the things that are going right

Stargate Tone: as I've 'holded' this MS illness for one peron since we met few weeks ago, and it's kept me in huge pains in legs unnormally much
    Stargate Tone: ahh
Stargate Tone: so; cuz I couldn't much walk with them, we sat much on the blanket
Stargate Tone: but that uncapabilty to enjoy with them more of the event and feeling a bit that I am the obstacle to them, even they also wanted to rest there too and missed my company too
Zen Arado: it's bad enough having your own pain I think :)
Stargate Tone: I felt suddenly huge anger even and even asked the permission to say a verrry bad word
Stargate Tone: ah well; most of my pains have come and comes from them patients
Stargate Tone: ah yes; needed to ask permission that they wouldnt' get a shock cuz they are like my family and never heared me to say one
Qt Core: asking for permission to say bad words take of at least half of their liberatory power ;-)
Stargate Tone: and sure the permisson was granteed *
    Zen Arado: :)
Stargate Tone: they almost cried with me, but sharing helped that even I didnt' cry
Stargate Tone: but now there's burning tears in my eyes thinking how wonderfull friends I have
Stargate Tone: ...was so alone with my awareness so long time; just late years have brought ppl 'to me' who can understand even me
    Zen Arado: yes Star
Stargate Tone: meaning also that I'm troubled and why
Zen Arado: pain makes you feel alone I find
Zen Arado: no one else seems to understand
Calvino Rabeni: It depends on who you know, I believe
Stargate Tone: hm...well...to me it's been opposite, but lonelyness what comes that understanding of 'my world'
Zen Arado: yes if you can feel compassion fro others
Zen Arado: but my own pain makes me feel isolated
    Stargate Tone: _/|\_
Zen Arado: and you feel you shouldn't complain
Stargate Tone: ah yes; 'to be sooo outsider' ...as it's also the fact when there's limits to normal moving
Stargate Tone: ah yes; and that's something one should learn to do
Stargate Tone: that it's neither declined, but even needed

Zen Arado: yes helping others also helps you to feel good
Calvino Rabeni: A man I know, a few days ago found he has lymphoma of the brain, will soon die. He cannot move on half the body. But decided not to have the medicine for it
Stargate Tone: but when we ask help, we give that help to them who helpes us :)***
Calvino Rabeni: and he has the good kind of friends
Calvino Rabeni: a group of them went to the hospital to see him
Calvino Rabeni: even one man, who was only showing up there "by acident"
Calvino Rabeni: and when there, they sang a song at that place
Calvino Rabeni: then took him home
Calvino Rabeni: but he asked, to be taken to their meeting next saturday
Calvino Rabeni: to say goodbye :)
Calvino Rabeni: it is a great trouble, to go to an island, take him in a wheelchair and boat, to that meeting
    Zen Arado: _/\_
Calvino Rabeni: but it is his request, and everyone wants to see him - for the last time probably
    Stargate Tone: _/|\_
Calvino Rabeni: and all admire him, that he has great courage and difficulty even to get to that meeting
Calvino Rabeni: so the other people feel that courage too, feel some gratitude
    Stargate Tone: /\}
Calvino Rabeni: I only heard about it tonight
Calvino Rabeni: but he will be there saturday
Calvino Rabeni: he is lucky to have those friends
    Zen Arado: yes he is

    :(.......................................

    2010.07.08 07:00 - A chat of many colors
Pema Pera: I'm sorry, Storm and Eden, that I haven't managed to keep up with twitter very much, after I tried to plunge in a month or so ago -- just got too busy, unexpectedly, with too many new projects . . . . .
    Lucinda Lavender: good day all!
Pema Pera: the new time sessions being just one of them :)
Storm Nordwind: busy can be good Pema, if these things are meaningful!
Eden Haiku: Sure Pema, no :)
    Eden Haiku: np ;)
Pema Pera: yeah, well, there are far more meaningful things I could think of doing than fit in my day . . . . :)
    Storm Nordwind: hehe
Pema Pera: so I just try to follow my intuition
    Lucinda Lavender: :)
Pema Pera: listening to what calls me most persistently
Storm Nordwind: At least you have indentified what is meaningful and what is just... 'fluff'

    :p

Eden Haiku: Are you aware of having any Native Indian blood maybe Bruce?
Bruce Mowbray: If I have Native American "blood," it would have to be WAYYYY back -- preior to European ciz.
    Bruce Mowbray: prior. coz.
    Bruce Mowbray: civiliz.
Bruce Mowbray: I do live on land occupied by Native American only one hundred years ago, though.
    Gaya Ethaniel: Poor thing ...
Bruce Mowbray: Finding arrow heads all the time here.
Eden Haiku: Maybe just living on ancient native Indian territories we get in touch with their values and mythologies.

Bruce Mowbray: Indeed. Just as living with plants and animals puts me in touch with there values and myths.
    Lucinda Lavender: wow!
Storm Nordwind: Any indigenous people's land is good for that Eden. You can do it in England! :)

Bruce Mowbray: does one "plug into the energy of" a past culture...?
Bruce Mowbray: is that what pilgrimages to ancient ruins is about?
Storm Nordwind: I suspect very often pilgrimages are wishful thinking. But it is possible to plug in if you know how to link up with its vital essence - if that still exists
Bruce Mowbray: I make 'pilgrimages' to places in my own personal history -- so, perhaps I could do that to places in the history of previous cultures, too.

    2010.07.08 13:00 - Open Questions
Eos Amaterasu: I suppose staying in an open question is also a form of freedom
Eos Amaterasu: I think we often walk around with a certain level of anxiety and uncertainty
    Wol Euler nods.
Lia Rikugun: i think there are questions you cannot answer
Eos Amaterasu: the energy of that could be "let go", "allowed", into that kind of openness?
Lia Rikugun: but this doesnt mean there is no point in asking
Eos Amaterasu: it's important to ask
Lia Rikugun: frees up the mind
Eos Amaterasu: otherwise you stay more superficiial than you need to be
Bertram Jacobus: but only to a certain point, no ? like the buddha recommended : the middle path ?
Lia Rikugun: what d you mean bertram?
Bertram Jacobus: that one also can ask too much
    Bertram Jacobus: and too few

2010.07.08 19:00 - Nothing is outside the whole
Paradise Tennant: was hot here to day too 42 but the air conditioning is cranking .. and keeping up :)
Calvino Rabeni: nice - there are no AC here, except in offices and stores
    Paradise Tennant: ouch
Calvino Rabeni: It's about temperature of the human body
Calvino Rabeni: I was trying to think of it as "cosy"
Paradise Tennant: smiles always wise to be positive
Calvino Rabeni: Yes! And if that doesnt' work, learn to enjoy suffering
Calvino Rabeni: There's a knack to it
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Calvino Rabeni: I have learned from the best :)
    Paradise Tennant: :)

Calvino Rabeni: I have a black t-shirt with the image of a tiger that came from there
Calvino Rabeni: the tiger no longer lives there
Lucinda Lavender: but the community remembers him?
Bruce Mowbray: ;-) I just made my t-shirt tongiht -- before this session!
    Paradise Tennant: synchronicity :)
    Lucinda Lavender: nice Bruce
    Calvino Rabeni: Yes
    Bruce Mowbray: cool. synchronicity!
Lucinda Lavender: that word has a city in it...
    Bruce Mowbray: yep
    Bobby Couerblanc: A great subject
    Paradise Tennant: it does!
Lucinda Lavender: which dream is that?
Calvino Rabeni: and "sin" ... and Time
    Lucinda Lavender: yes
    Bruce Mowbray: yep yep.
Bobby Couerblanc: Do you know who coined the word?
    Bruce Mowbray: Jung.
    Bobby Couerblanc: :)
    Lucinda Lavender: was it Jung?
    Bobby Couerblanc: right
    Hokon Cazalet: yup
    Bobby Couerblanc: !!
Bruce Mowbray: The quantum physicists are turning synchronicity inside-out.

/Me drops a note to Gilles and Birric ;-)))

    2010.07.09 01:00 - Miracles and serendipities
Archmage Atlantis: Every rough patch has it's end, as does every miracle *g*
    Wol Euler: true
Wol Euler: I've found this more of a comfort than a sadness
Wol Euler: in our happy moments we know that miracles are all around us, and that happiness will come again
Zaldaan Sirnah: I don't know about the last part, except it might be a misunderstanding of "miracle".
Zaldaan Sirnah: but the first part I confirm
Wol Euler: but depression or deep sadness always feel as though they will last forever
Archmage Atlantis: Ah, one needs comfort in good times and in bad times, as we are human and know that
    Wol Euler nods.
Archmage Atlantis: I used miracle in an odd way, I meant it as an unusually good patch
Wol Euler: which is how I took it :)
Wol Euler: but extended it in my mind to serendipities
Wol Euler: finding the perfect shoes on sale :)
Wol Euler: somebody standing up to leave my favourite table as I approach the cafe
Archmage Atlantis: Interesting word choice, Wol......serendipities
Wol Euler: being reminded in conversation of a book I'd always meant to read, and seeing it on a bookstore shelf a moment later
Archmage Atlantis: Yes, that is a good example

    --BELL--

Wol Euler: these are close enough to miracles for me to be going on with :)
Archmage Atlantis: Being aware that serendipities exist, even
Wol Euler makes a deliberately provocative, but earnestly meant, statement: Insofar as miracles exist at all, they are as common as house dust, we just don't notice them.
Zaldaan Sirnah: you know what's funny -- we think that all the little things that work normally... like according to fields, chemistry, etc... we think of them as non-miracles. Probably everything is based on the highest level of divinity we can imagine. Probably every single thing is a miracle.

Wol Euler often wishes she could "emote" in RL conversations :)
Wol Euler: given that we will all die within an absurdly short span of time (geologically speaking) all that we might do is absurd.
Archmage Atlantis: Please define what foundation you are using, Zal
Wol Euler: but still the *doing* of it is worthwhile, because it gives our ridiculously short lives some content and perhaps meaning
    Calvino Rabeni: "perhaps" meaning?
    Wol Euler: mmhmm :)

    2010.07.09 07:00 - The Temperature of Life
Eden Haiku: When my mother was dying and I was opening a window so she could breath fresh air, I was reminded how she told me some many "time" how she would let me sleep outside all warpped up in blankets in my stroller when I was a baby. Times of my early days and her lasts were connecting very strongly. In my mind I suppose but it felt circular.
    Eliza Madrigal: Oh, Eden.
    Pema Pera: how beautiful, Eden!
    Yakuzza Lethecus: :(
    Eliza Madrigal pauses...
Eden Haiku: I was then the mother and she the child.
    Lucinda Lavender: beautiful...
    Pema Pera: yes, role reversal
Pema Pera: and perhaps this can inspire us to reverse roles with time too . . . .
Eliza Madrigal: more fluid than our labels suggest
Eden Haiku: Isn't time that gives of our sense of self too ?
    Eliza Madrigal: :) yes...
Pema Pera: for me the greatest discovery, time wise, was the possibility to switch roles -- instead of me trying to work with time, subtly trying to control time, I started to play with letting time speak to me, giving time free reign . . . .
Pema Pera: become the child of time . . . instead of the parent or boss
Eden Haiku: How would you do that Pema?
    Pema Pera: starting by listening

Pema Pera: about my dream, Eden, at 8 years old?
Eden Haiku: Ah, a dream, yes. Care to share it again?
Pema Pera: hmmm, about trying to reach a point with a line, which I didn't succeed in doing -- that one?
Eden Haiku: Yes, and you described the lines you were trying to draw..
Pema Pera: that was a very unusual dream: all other dreams I remember from that time are concrete situation; that was the only was that was totally abstract, mathematical
Pema Pera: I saw a kind of graph space, with a point in the upper left
Pema Pera: and a point in the lower right
Pema Pera: and I had to draw a line from the lower right point to the upper left
Pema Pera: at first everything went fine
Pema Pera: but the closer I came to the upper left point the harder it got
Pema Pera: the line started to wiggle and whatever I tried I couldn't get closer
Pema Pera: it felt symbolic, like a koan
Pema Pera: at the same time a kind of calling and also a kind of struggling with an angel, in biblical terms
Pema Pera: if I were to try to find a meaning now, fifty years later
Eden Haiku: I find this image very powerful.
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Pema Pera: I would say: I was trying to find a solution in terms of the context in which the problem was given
    Lucinda Lavender: same for me
Pema Pera: while the answer is to drop the context
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pema Pera: and the problem disappears
Pema Pera: so there are three ways of dealing with a knot
    Pema Pera: 1) slowly unravel
Pema Pera: 2) cut through the knot
Pema Pera: 3) see there never has been a knot

2010.07.09 19:00 - A good lie will have traveled half way around the world while the truth is putting on her boots.

Well, if they are as long as some of the boots I wear, I'm not surprised :D

Calvino Rabeni: the one that lives in the pond is called a kappa
Xeno Octavia: ah dharma demons , not chrisy ones
Paradise Tennant: nods .. does it have fins ?
Calvino Rabeni: more similar to a turtle
Dream Wrexan looks in the pool for a kappa
Dream Wrexan: sounds like a sorority
Calvino Rabeni: the teacher would tell us to - when in the water - keep "anus" tight, because the kappa were known to steal energy through that area

Oh.  Was that the reason?  ;-)))))))))))))))))))))
