Yakuzza Lethecus: since everyone here already had a slot in play as being, what do you think about the silence sometimes, when everyone is there but there is no topic ?

Yakuzza Lethecus: is that supposed to be a good thing, or also percieved as terrible sometimes in ur eyes ?

Yakuzza Lethecus: yeah, but for example when i bring someone new into the group and it´s silence

Gaya Ethaniel: I think I have gotten used to sit in silence with other people more and more over the years.

Yakuzza Lethecus: obviously i try to explain that even before i introduce someone and explain that theme sessions are to be prefered or pema or stims session because it´s just more crowed

Riddle Sideways: like RL, you bring a new person to a great circle... that turns out to be not so great that time

Gaya Ethaniel: ah I see ... it is true PaB silence isn't really typical in SL maybe.

Bertram Jacobus: i went with such a mountain thing - how is it called - a lift to 2060 m high ...

Pila Mulligan: those soft hands can be used to push away an intrusion

Pila Mulligan: or to stay where the aggression does not reach

Pila Mulligan: one of the most interesting phenonmena of this part of the practice is what I call shrinking

Pila Mulligan: it is not explained easily in scientific terms, except maybe as an illusion of perspective

Pila Mulligan: but it invovles shrinking in size as an aggression approaches

Pila Mulligan: you might want to explain it that way, maybe it is -- when I first saw it I was befuddled

Pila Mulligan: the teacher was doing some moves and then walked about ten feet further away and did the same ones

Pila Mulligan: as he walked away his body shrank much more than you wold expect

Pila Mulligan: so it looked like he was more than ten feet away

Pila Mulligan: ... you get it eventually

Pila Mulligan: it is not done conciously

Pila Mulligan: when you touch someone there is an instant kinetic reaction on contact

Pila Mulligan: so part of the practice is to be yielding when you are touched, to minimize that kinetic moment and, conversely, to be sensitive to the kinetic moment of an aggressor to redirect their momentum

doug Sosa: well, i was nervous. Invita

doug Sosa: invitation to film the talk. it was on the draft of my book

Storm Nordwind: And was it filmed?

doug Sosa: no, it will be, in mod october.

doug Sosa: new audience.

Storm Nordwind: What size audience?

doug Sosa: about sixty i think, like this morning.

Storm Nordwind: And what are their qualifications and interests?

doug Sosa: hm, well its about the reponse to the economic, ecological and political crisis.

doug Sosa: so their qual is interest, as is mine.

Storm Nordwind: You see these as a single interlinked crisis, by the sound of things, is that right?

doug Sosa: yes, indeed. doesn't mean i'm right.

doug Sosa: well, they conveege, not cause each other.

Storm Nordwind: Do they have a common cause?

doug Sosa: yes, over industrialization and over commodification. . but i'd want to be more precise if i wan't just getting

doug Sosa: my mind off the long drive.

Storm Nordwind: Is there a deeper cause though? What gives rise to a trend of over industrialization and over commodification?

doug Sosa: the issue can be put thus: the science is good, but the politics terrible. What to do?

Storm Nordwind: It sounds to me, doug (though I may be generalizing wildly), that you are trying to find a solution for the human condition and its selfishness! :)

Eliza Madrigal: :)

doug Sosa: no, climate change is a specific issue, not one rooted in human nautre. It may be we can't do anuything. we grow as a species spontaneously, slowing down and taking a husbandry approach to ourselves is a long shot, but worth trying.

doug Sosa: One of the things about second life is the cheap tranportation without the need for vehicles. No cars in these parts!

Eliza Madrigal: :) Yes, teleporting might help

Storm Nordwind: And yet it is badly contributing towards climate change!

doug Sosa: second life? the servers? the by products of the computers?

Storm Nordwind: And the laptops and the networks etc

doug Sosa: Paul and I would love to see actual numbers.

Storm Nordwind: They are extant, but don't ask me for where!

Yakuzza Lethecus: i already had the infrastructure before second life

doug Sosa: A grain of sugar can keep a fly flying for half an hour ( i am told).

Yakuzza Lethecus: to the costs are not only funded to SL :)

doug Sosa: how many joules to keep a person in second life for an hour?

doug Sosa: Including yes the manuracturing real costs of the computer, the waste products..

    doug Sosa: yes. psychoanalyst.. eric fromm more or less.

    Pila Mulligan: there are overlaps between law and psychology

    doug Sosa: yes. in psychology nearly everyone is more innocent :)

    doug Sosa: What is the overlap you see?

    Pila Mulligan: well, lawyers do a lot of drama, and the understanding of human nautre is essential to their success

    Pila Mulligan: technically, sanity as an element of law is also an issue

    doug Sosa: ah, rhetoric and narrative.

    doug Sosa: now there is an assumption. meaning?

    Pila Mulligan: well, I am chuckling here, actually

    Pila Mulligan: a lot of popele question the sanity and competence of lawyers

    doug Sosa: Sanity is very slippery from a psychological point of view.

    Pila Mulligan: but I was referring to criminal and social competence as a legal term

ila Mulligan: opensim is the phenomenon created by Linden when they released their operating system for SL to open source

    Pila Mulligan: people are setting up their own grids

    Pila Mulligan: outside of SL, looks like SL, but is private
