    Adams Rubble: I have a dentist appt on Thursday. They always seem to be on Thursdays
    Riddle Sideways: getting so regular a need that should be done every Monday night
    Adams Rubble: Could we meet Friday instead?

    Riddle Sideways: couple weeks ago was the forget it was Thursday and set alarm to get up on Friday
    Adams Rubble: it doesn't take much to set one off of which day of week it is
    Riddle Sideways: when all the days are almost the same

    Adams Rubble: it rained on Saturday so did walk on Sunday.
    Adams Rubble: now not sure if it is Monday or Tuesday
    Riddle Sideways: garbage-recycling went out Monday
    Riddle Sideways: that is the Big marker of the week

    Adams Rubble: when i was growing up it seemed like they had been on the farm forever
    Adams Rubble: just 40 years
    Riddle Sideways: the young moved around, but the old always were right there
    Riddle Sideways: solid as grandpa rock
    Adams Rubble: there is a book on Medieval life that illustrates spects using little illustrations found in margins of manuscripts
    Adams Rubble: I was suprised when i saw it that so many of the farming methods went back to medieval times (and probably before)
    Adams Rubble: methods mostly had not changed
    Adams Rubble: the tractor replaced the plow horse
    Adams Rubble: milking machines helped do more cows
    Adams Rubble: minimual electric lighting in barn and house replace lanterns
    Riddle Sideways: yet, there is an ever so slow turn to not plowing fields
    Riddle Sideways: a new practice
    Riddle Sideways: disc them instead
    Riddle Sideways: not turn the soil upside down to such a depth
    Adams Rubble: ohh, do not know about that. my grandfather plowed, then disc
    Riddle Sideways: yep, always done that order
    Riddle Sideways: probably still done that way in corn states
    Riddle Sideways: not so much out here with the vegetables
    Riddle Sideways: but you are right, not much changed from prehistoric times

    Adams Rubble: all of our agricultural metaphors
    Riddle Sideways: the city dwellers forget their roots

    Adams Rubble: and farmers forget that those city dwellers are their markets
    Adams Rubble: as opposed to their enemy
    Riddle Sideways: yet, they think that

    Riddle Sideways: talking with sister that stills lives in dairy country, that there is no Market for milk anymore
    Riddle Sideways: the city milk factories have no markets
    Riddle Sideways: so won't take the milk
    Riddle Sideways: no trucks come pick up the milk
    Riddle Sideways: the Big dairy farm bought their own truck
    Riddle Sideways: and have to get on phone to find any plant that will take the load
    Riddle Sideways: hire somebody to drive it there
    Riddle Sideways: but, the little farms are going out of business
    Riddle Sideways: sell the cows for nothing
    Adams Rubble: :(
    Riddle Sideways: the Amish cheese factory has all the milk that they can process

    Adams Rubble: there used to be so much infrastructure to move the milk
    Riddle Sideways: yep
    Adams Rubble: milk trains
    Adams Rubble: making a daily run
    Riddle Sideways: whole industries up and down the chain
    Adams Rubble: idustrio farms
    Adams Rubble: industrial
    Riddle Sideways: from seed companies to cheese
    Riddle Sideways: little local hometown had a seed company, a feed store, a milk company
    Adams Rubble: now a Walmart?
    Riddle Sideways: loved watching the cans come in, get dumped upside down and mixed

    Riddle Sideways: all the factories and warehouses around the train tracks

    Adams Rubble: our topic is how we are connected and what happens when the connections are broken

    Riddle Sideways: once were connected by the horse and wagon trails
    Adams Rubble: empty factories in cities; empty stores in country
    Riddle Sideways: the village marketplace
    Adams Rubble: rich sucking out money from the economy
    Riddle Sideways: the Walmart
    Adams Rubble: moving jobs overseas
    Adams Rubble: society starts to break down

    Riddle Sideways: Now, stay home and let Amazon bring it to ya
    Adams Rubble got an Amazon package during this session :)
    Riddle Sideways: big cities have Prime trucks delivering
    Riddle Sideways: out here in the country, the post office, UPS, FedX and DHL deliver
    Riddle Sideways: funny, the last little package delivered was by a UPS guy driving his personal Tesla
    Adams Rubble: :)

    Riddle Sideways: Change is the only sure thing
    Adams Rubble: YES
    Riddle Sideways: but it is hard to see some things change
    Adams Rubble: hard to let things go
    Riddle Sideways: that old guy that worked so hard for so many years to bring us Goods
    Riddle Sideways: retired, worn out. replaced

    Riddle Sideways: no professors going to large rooms of students
    Riddle Sideways: no art museums letting people wander

    Adams Rubble: people grew vegetablles in their backyards this summer
    Riddle Sideways: and baking sourdough bread
    Adams Rubble: Opera houses let people watch operas for free on their websites
    Riddle Sideways: crowds gathering in SL
    Adams Rubble looks around
    Riddle Sideways: a middle school play produced on Zoom and edit by the kid that was supposed to pull the curtains

    Adams Rubble: there is much for us to do
    Adams Rubble: this hour flew by
    Riddle Sideways: so much to do, so little time
    Riddle Sideways: need to go milk the cow
    Adams Rubble: yes, don't think I'll get another 40 years
    Adams Rubble: :)
    Adams Rubble: the grandchildren will carry the memories

    Riddle Sideways: plant a tree that you won't harvest the fruit from
    Riddle Sideways: but the grandchildren will

    Adams Rubble: so much to learn
    Adams Rubble: he was an opera singer popular in the early 1950s who influenced Pavorotti
    Riddle Sideways: wow! thanks

    Riddle Sideways: on yet another tab to visit today
    Adams Rubble: his music can be found on Youtube
    Adams Rubble: yes, worth a listen. He became an alcholic and died way too young
    Adams Rubble: in 1960
    Adams Rubble: Television was an experiemnt that produced some wonderful early shows--lots of culture
    Adams Rubble: and left us with some videos as evoidence
