What a challenge on returning to the monthly report on doings! There seemed to be so much going on in Play as Being; there is so much energy now. The reader may have to pick and choose from the many topics.
The new year began with celebrations in the four sessions after a long impromptu dance in the pavilion the day before.
Being Sessions: In early January there was some talk, in the guardian meetings and elsewhere, about re-energizing the regular Play as Being sessions. It was felt it might be helpful to get back to basics. Pema announced four weekly Being sessions to begin January 8. Pema posed questions via email in each of the weeks? During these sessions, avatars took term speaking so their words were more measured than the conversational tone usually taking place in a session. A flavor of these sessions, and some of the voices, may be found on a separate page:
Eden Haiku: I realize something I never realized before these special sessions on Being.
Eden Haiku: I realize I can hear better the different "voices".

The Time sessions began again on January 7 after taking a break for December. The comments about the book, emails and sessions may be seen on the Time Sessions in January page.

SophiaSharon and Eliza held a theme session on the topic of "Appreciate the Presence of Appearance as a Presentation by Being" on Monday, January 17 at 19:00 going back to our old friend, the sentence. Eliza provided a summary and pointers to previous sessions were it was discussed. She also reminded us of Tilopa's
Don't recall
Don't imagine
Don't think
Don't examine
Don't control
Rest
On reading this I smiled as I recalled Pema giving me a xerox of these words for me on a visit to Princeton and carefully ripping off parts of the page that had notes he needed. It was good to be reminded of these simple words (except when trying to write Chronicles).
Sharon offered her thoughts about how APAPB has become more meaningful to her. In the ensuing discussion Stevenaia inadvertently began a circle by pasting the sentence in the chat window to look at during the break and then hitting enter afterward. Interesting how the Being sessions carried over including many thoughts about dropping all to the very core and the "appreciation" that remained.

The eighth retreat in real life took place in New Orleans, on 2011, January 23-29. This was an urban retreat coordinated by Corvuscorva with help by SophiaSharon, and attended by Eliza, Eos, Gaya, Lia, Pema and Stim. Eliza and Gaya left reports on the wiki page for the retreat and a retreat session was held on Thursday, February 3 at 13:00. A comment by Eos particularly resonated with me at this time:
Eos Amaterasu: One aspect I found, especially with Stim, but also through some of the discussions
Eos Amaterasu: was that we, or some of us, are washed up on a new shore,
Eos Amaterasu: with our past human history still lapping at us
Eos continued...
Eos Amaterasu: and finding new ways, or ways that may work for us and for others at this time,
Eos Amaterasu: in learning to let ourselves be.... and that is valuable not just for one on one
Eos Amaterasu: or several together
Eos Amaterasu: but maybe bigger...

Calvino and Hana began a poetry theme session called "Poetry as Practice" on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 19:00. In the session Calvino, Hana, o000o and Susan shared and discussed poems.
Hana Furlough: one aspect that dovetails nicely with the idea behind PaB is the notion of overcoming the usual subject-object split through the poetic act
New Guardians in January were: Druth Vlodovic and Susan Alcott
The following guardians left the Play as Being group: Adelene Dawner, Pia Iger, Qullty Bookmate, and Threedee Shepherd in January. Pia was the avatar originally responsible for collecting and organizing the Excerpts Section on the website. Along with Pia, Adeleine and Threedee were very active participants through that first summer and fall of 2008.
Scribes: Adams Rubble was the lone scribe in January as the scribe effort was discontinued after two years.
