Riddle Sideways: Ha Roo, leaping in Adams
Adams Rubble: Hello Riddle :)
Adams Rubble: Good morning!
Riddle Sideways: you have been busy?
Adams Rubble: I hope all is well with you
Riddle Sideways: yes, mostly above average
Adams Rubble: yes, working up to the moment I rezzed :)
Riddle Sideways: and with you?
Adams Rubble: I am well, thank you
Riddle Sideways: winter is over
Adams Rubble: yes, today is going to be a scorcher here I think
Riddle Sideways: colds are over
Adams Rubble: we have been going back and forth from cold rainy days to warm rainy days to warm muggy days :)
Adams Rubble: can't tell the weather without a scorecard
Riddle Sideways: and looking out now, it is still foggy
Adams Rubble: ohhh
Riddle Sideways: warm yesterday
Adams Rubble: we get the weather after it has been used :)
Riddle Sideways: rainy-ish the day before
Riddle Sideways: ㋡
Adams Rubble: after a lapse continued with my oral Bible yesterday
Adams Rubble: up to the book of esther
Riddle Sideways: ah, a good book
Adams Rubble: I did not remember the blood bath that followed the story
Riddle Sideways: good and bad ending
Adams Rubble: it was a bit chilling
Riddle Sideways: yes, kill all them 'others'
Adams Rubble: I always had remembered it as a happy story
Riddle Sideways: yes, tell it every year as a fun time story for the kids in us all
Riddle Sideways: however, Haman is not the only one killed in the end
Adams Rubble nods
Adams Rubble: there is a lesson there but not the one we are expected to get :(
Riddle Sideways: not the lesson usually told to the kids
Adams Rubble: It is interesting that the people who put together the canon considered not including it but purim was already popular
Riddle Sideways: everybody lived happily ever after
Riddle Sideways: except the ones that did not
Adams Rubble: I was also interested in Xerxes. Susa was at the western end of Persia but I do not remember him in the Book of Kings
Adams Rubble: need to do a bit more research on that
Adams Rubble: Ahasuerus
Riddle Sideways: first name did not remember
Adams Rubble: I think Xerxes may be Greek for Ahasuerus
Riddle Sideways: so much research
Adams Rubble: yes, like tabs
Adams Rubble: except the tabs are in our heads
Riddle Sideways: ㋡
Riddle Sideways: our synagogue did a strange simchat Torah event a weekend ago
--BELL--
Adams Rubble: well, these old stories in the various traditions often contain things we do not like
Adams Rubble listens
Riddle Sideways: tradition is that on Simchat Torah when the last section of torah is read. immediately start at the beginning again
Riddle Sideways: well 2 people got talking and decided to read the entire torah out loud in a weekend
Riddle Sideways: 6 people ended up taking turns reading all night long. Others joined in as they could
Adams Rubble: :)
Riddle Sideways: turns out, reading really fast. it can be done in 19 hours
Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: Torah reading as a meditation
Riddle Sideways: was there for the last 4 hours
Adams Rubble: Deuteronomy?
Riddle Sideways: yes. and again the end is pretty bloody
Adams Rubble: and lots of rules
Riddle Sideways: yes,
Adams Rubble: people do that with the Talmud don't they -- but takes much much longer
Adams Rubble: Hello Storm
Riddle Sideways: Howdee, friend
Storm Nordwind: Hi there both :)
Riddle Sideways: well, we have exhausted that topic
Riddle Sideways: did you bring any, Storm
Storm Nordwind: I did not, sadly. I will have to extemporize.
Riddle Sideways: had really good discussions last night, but think that subject is exhasuted too
Riddle Sideways: there is a local lecture series
Riddle Sideways: televised
Riddle Sideways: Leon Panetta
Storm Nordwind: That sounds interesting
Riddle Sideways: created 21 years ago
Riddle Sideways: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbN...dno2v2ERbu4pgA
Riddle Sideways: 4 lectures a year
Riddle Sideways: they are about 1.5 hour shows
Riddle Sideways: very interesting this year
Riddle Sideways: however, with pauses to discuss it becomes a 4 hour evening
Storm Nordwind: Right!
Riddle Sideways: GDPR was a big topic last night
Storm Nordwind: Looking back at the topics, I can see why
Storm Nordwind nods
Riddle Sideways: Security vs. Privacy
Riddle Sideways: Government vs. Private
Riddle Sideways: and all the non-communication and non-sharing
Riddle Sideways: the previous one on the Presidency was really good too
Riddle Sideways: Woodward and Burnstein
Riddle Sideways: (they are not dead yet)
Storm Nordwind: So you watch this live? Or just the recordings when you can?
Riddle Sideways: start watching live (and start recording) then pause for dicussions
Riddle Sideways: and more food and phone and and and
Storm Nordwind smiles
Riddle Sideways: last nights was not as good a debate since the 2 guests almost agreed
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: it is a better show when 2 or 3 people are from different sides of the aisle
Riddle Sideways: Or when an intelligent person states that G. Ford was the best president
Storm Nordwind: What?!
Riddle Sideways: ㋡ yes, somebody said that
Riddle Sideways: last night there was a question about whether the Internet is gotten too big to fail
Storm Nordwind: Well what do I know? I was living in a religious commune when he was in office.
Riddle Sideways: seems that the jeanie can not be put back in the bottle
Storm Nordwind: Bertram! Good to see you. :)
Riddle Sideways: Hi Bertie
Adams Rubble: Hello Bertram :)
Bertram Jacobus: thank you ! and hi, everybody ... and please go on with your topic ! seems to be interesting ... :-)
Riddle Sideways: maybe not... this Viewer is lagging, crashing
Storm Nordwind: I'm not sure what "failure" would look like for the internet anyway.
Riddle Sideways: maybe talking about that is causing ths lag
Storm Nordwind: The revenge of the net. It is sentient!
Bertram Jacobus: hehe. i have no lag at the moment - "sorry" ... ;-)
Bertram Jacobus: at least not more then usual ...
Bertram Jacobus: since i moved to the countryside ... connection is very much worse then it was in the big city
Storm Nordwind: Ah yes. One of the "perks" of the city.
Riddle Sideways: good that there are some perks to every place
Storm Nordwind: So far that has been true for me, at each of the 40+ so-called "permanent" addresses I've had
Riddle Sideways: good enough test
Riddle Sideways: sample
Bertram Jacobus: but in total life on the countryside now seems much better to me - at least when one has not to work for money anymore , luckily ... ;-)
Riddle Sideways: yes, retirement is very nice
Bertram Jacobus: closer to nature, good air, nice sounds, silence ... great for a spiritual life !
Adams Rubble: :)
Riddle Sideways: so there is a purpose to slow internet
Storm Nordwind: If you have sufficient support services, then that Sounds very good. :)
Riddle Sideways: got you out in nature
Bertram Jacobus: sorry ? what does that mean "got you out in the nature" ? and was that a question for me ? ...
Riddle Sideways: no question, just bad typing
Bertram Jacobus: and many people here in my surrounding found out that they really don´t need much money (!) ... :-)
Storm Nordwind smiles
Bertram Jacobus: included me ... hrhr ...
Riddle Sideways: very good
Bertram Jacobus: yes !
--BELL--
Storm Nordwind: Are you a long way from Köln now?
Bertram Jacobus: that´s sooo cool
Bertram Jacobus: 200 km
Bertram Jacobus: 2 hours to drive
Storm Nordwind: Oh!
Bertram Jacobus: yes. another region. very nice
Storm Nordwind: Sounds wonderful :)
Bertram Jacobus: yes. i feel happy and lucky and very thankful for that
Storm Nordwind: I can imagine you growing your own grapes and writing spiritual treatises :)
Riddle Sideways: a great image
Bertram Jacobus: hehe. not really - but we have indeed a vine in the garden, but because many people have and can decide here what should be done, i so far didn´t ever cut it and so the gain from it is still a bit poor ... ;-)
Storm Nordwind smiles
Bertram Jacobus: may be next year ! ... ;-)
Riddle Sideways: yes
Bertram Jacobus: and yes : today i already translated a speech from the 17. karmapa, for example ...
Bertram Jacobus: so much space for spiritual activities of various kinds ! ... amazing ...
Storm Nordwind: Great!
Storm Nordwind: Will your translations be published? Or are they just for personal use?
Bertram Jacobus: more for personal use so far. but around one week before, i really earned for the first time of my life a bit money with my buddhist knowledge - without having planned that : an invitation to a school class, where the teacher asked me afterwards wheather he ould be allowed to give me a bit ...
Storm Nordwind: wow!
Storm Nordwind: Quite a surprise
Bertram Jacobus: yes ! i felt the same ! :-D
Riddle Sideways: nice
Bertram Jacobus: yeh - it´s a nice thing and helpful ...
Storm Nordwind nods
Adams Rubble: :)
Bertram Jacobus: and i love it when something is given as a donation. and i don´t like at all when dharma has a price. i even think : then it´s ... problematic ... whereas jack kornfield once wrote a really good article about that topic
Bertram Jacobus: and sorry for my typos please ...
Bertram Jacobus: i will try to type better ...
Bertram Jacobus: be aware ... ;-)
Storm Nordwind: Agreed about donations. I was always uneasy when I was told I should charge for services like that. And then I realized that there were others who relied on that kind of income, and my doing things free would cause them a problem.
Bertram Jacobus: yes : it´s a big topic in samsara ! ... ;-)
Storm Nordwind: It is so long since I have visited Germany - maybe 15 years. What is the attitude there nowadays to non-Christian religions - or to no belief at all?
Bertram Jacobus: i think, it has risen a lot that people have no religions or other then cristianity ... and so it´s becoming really normal, this variety ... but on the other hand, people often miss values ...
Storm Nordwind nods
--BELL--
Bertram Jacobus: and may be in these days of the young internet, people have to learn in a new way how to communicate with each other (!) ... may still need a while ...
Storm Nordwind: True. And there is always architecture to remind people of their history, which may cause a nostalgia for old ways.
Bertram Jacobus: so many possibilities ! ... yess ... ;-)
Adams Rubble: I muist go. have a good day everyone :)
Storm Nordwind: Bye for now Adams
Bertram Jacobus: byee adams
Riddle Sideways: bye Adams
Bertram Jacobus: okey dears : i´ll leave as well . see you next time ! ... *wave* ...
Storm Nordwind: Great to see you Bertram!
Riddle Sideways: goood to see you Bert
Bertram Jacobus: thank you and same same ! :-))
Riddle Sideways: have your best day
Bertram Jacobus: may all beings be happy please ...
Riddle Sideways: yes
Storm Nordwind nods and smiles
Riddle Sideways: need to reboot or something to fix this lag, stalls, whatever
Storm Nordwind: Tell you what. This may be a good time to get on with the duties of the day.
Riddle Sideways: maybe go outside ㋡
Storm Nordwind: So please do it at your leisure. And I hope it works!
Riddle Sideways: enjoy the best day
Storm Nordwind: You too my friend :))
