The Guardian for this meeting was Wol Euler.
Qt Core: Hi Wol
Wol Euler: hello Qt, long time no see!
Qt Core: Yes, long time
Wol Euler: how have you been?
Qt Core: sad, busy and stressed, mostly, you
Wol Euler: oh, I'm sorry to hear it
--BELL--
Wol Euler: I'm okay, thanks
Qt Core: and now adjusting to firestorm (was a faithful official sl client user) on linux, (installed it minutes ago) at the moment in italian , in english at next run, too many options, to little fonts ;-)
Wol Euler smiles.
Qt Core: had a huge breakout with windows 10 in the spring, linux only since then and today i got curious (nostalgic ?) about sl
Wol Euler: ah :)
Wol Euler: welcome back, then :)
Wol Euler: is there not a linux version of the official viewer, though?
Wol Euler: that surprises me
Qt Core: last is from a year ago, it seems 32 bit only and asked for 244 additional 32 bit compatibility packages, no thanks
Wol Euler: ha
Wol Euler: okay
Qt Core: almost the same Phoenix 32, but Phoenix 64 run at first click
Wol Euler nods.
Qt Core: ao, how is Pab lately, i haven't keep up with it in months
Wol Euler: well to be honest I hardly come in to SL either, only for my morning sessions on the weekend and not even all of those
Wol Euler: I've lost touch with the group and what they are doing
Qt Core: (and my keyboard skill have got way worse thatks to the lack of chatting practice
Wol Euler: heheheheh
Wol Euler: there is a dream workshop running at the moment, and a book discussion club which seems quite active
Qt Core: good
Wol Euler: but we are down to eight official sessions a week now
Qt Core: i'm surprised about this viewer, last time i checked unofficial viewers it was anightmare, no sound, very slow, crashes...
Wol Euler: oh no, Firestorm is fine (at least on windows). extremely stable, full of useful features, I am very pleased with it
Qt Core: should find how to increase interface fonts, chat ones are good, but menu one are so tiny
Wol Euler: there is a very good Firestorm Support group too, in several languages
Wol Euler: if you get stuck, they will help
Qt Core: better few session than too much, sometimes i felt guilty about attending not so many
Wol Euler nods.
--BELL--
Qt Core: i'm not liking at all being a dark gray dot in minimap i'm feeling non-existant;-)
Wol Euler: huh, purply-red for me
Wol Euler: perhaps it's a setting?
Qt Core: probably, damn opensource programmers and their love for too many options
Qt Core: (first thing i do with anew software, desperately search for the options/preference button and mess them up)
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: no no no, "personalize them"
Qt Core: felt naked and blind until i opened the local char and got minimap and camera control on screen
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: exactly
Wol Euler: and clear out 3/4 of the useless stuff on the toolbar
Wol Euler: why have a button for something for which there is already a menu command and a keyboard shortcut?
Qt Core: i even remembered the Home shortcut ;-)
Wol Euler: aha! :)
Qt Core: got logged in in last location , an adult area pub i didn't remember visiting, ok, it eas some months ago, but it felt like post drunk wake up (never got drunk in my life ut i suppose that is the feeling)
Wol Euler: heheheheh
Wol Euler: well, you know, it may have been a public park with trees and flowers back then ...
Wol Euler: things sometiems change so much so quickly
Qt Core: i may use that as an exxusew ;-)
Wol Euler smiles.
Qt Core: didn't US come back to not DST this weekend ?
Wol Euler: not until 2pm :)
Wol Euler: 2am sorry
Wol Euler: wait, I'm confused
--BELL--
Qt Core: the shh be quiet in dark burgundy (?) on a very dark gray is so nice to read...
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: yes the US was supposed to switch over
Wol Euler: perhaps it'll go from 2:59:59 to 2:00:00
Qt Core: speaking about useless UI part why the "stand up button ? And in a place i will always cover with the chat window...
Qt Core: ok, time is relative, an annoying relative ;-)
Wol Euler: ha
Wol Euler: good one!
Qt Core: this morning i jumped up from bed, thinking it was monday and i was almost an hour late to meet a colleague to go to a client site (something i very very rarely do)
Qt Core: this is the fourth day of a 4 day weekend in italy, so i lost count of days
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: holidays are disturbing
Wol Euler: I just spent two days in Venice (plus a day each side travelling)
Wol Euler: and I'm feeling quite lost somehow
Qt Core: i found very funny that us/uk have such an halloween tradition and it is us that have 1/11 as a gfestive day (or do they have it festive too ?)
Qt Core: you go to see some high water then, right ?
Wol Euler: festive is not really the right word, it isn't marked in any way except the halloween candy and pumpkin tradition
Wol Euler: I missed the real flooding, just some aqua alta on wednesday that didn't really affect me
Qt Core: it is sadly said that just those few hours of acqua alta aged the St. Mark basilica 20 years
Wol Euler: yes
Qt Core: and then this: https://www.archaeology.wiki/blog/20...ods-in-venice/
Wol Euler: I read a statement like "I don't know whether it can be repaired"
Qt Core: (and then, worse, these last few days rains got a dozen people killed)
Wol Euler nods.
--BELL--
Qt Core: https://www.theartnewspaper.com/news...-venice-floods
Qt Core: it seems they got repaired, quite quickly i may add
Wol Euler: good
Wol Euler: it can hardly have been seawater if they were damaged on the second floor by rain overflow, though?
Qt Core: it was a 156 cm high water, the sixth highest iin 80 yeasr the article says, but still less than a full floor high
Qt Core: i've been in Venezia just a couple of time and never overnight, i may like to be there on an acqua alta day
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: it's interesting :) primarily by how *ordinary* it all is, nobody cares :)
Wol Euler: yeah, you go home early and stay there for a while. So?
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: only the tourists even wear waterproof shoes
Wol Euler: let alone boots
Qt Core: i've seem videos of restaurant (indoor one) oeprating with 15 cm of water around
Wol Euler: heheheh
Wol Euler: haven't seen that, but I did see people sitting outdoors at a private patio that was in theory that far below river level, protected by those steel plates that people slide into vertical frames in doorways and openings
Wol Euler: demonstrating coolness :)
Qt Core: they have a few century of experience, maybe even dna mutation too
Wol Euler: ha
Wol Euler: perhaps, yes
Qt Core: in my area we "just" had a few tree collapsing, a few schools closed by precaution or little damage and the usual suspects, pardon, too urbanized river floofing or being at risk of flooding
Qt Core: + river after pardon
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: straightening and channeling and removing obstacles, as people did for decades or centuries, seems to make the flooding in total worse
Qt Core: speaking of urbanized rivers, it seems that Milan, in next years will open some of its Navigli (channels) that were closed decades ago to make roads over them
--BELL--
Qt Core: it all started with the Darsena (port) of Milan, where the two still open ones join. It was a degradated area and now: https://www.google.it/search?q=darse...w=1080&bih=892
Wol Euler: exactly :) many cities wasted or spoiled their waterfronts in the name of industry and transportation, and are now trying to recover them
Wol Euler: that looks very nice
Qt Core: many restaurant, pubs and night-life around there, some wanderful ice cream too ;-)
Wol Euler smiles.
Qt Core: some of the inhabitants favored the quiet (and wansering rats) they had before...
Qt Core: *wandering
Wol Euler: well :) no pleasing everyone...
Wol Euler: Qt, it was lovely to see you again but I'm going to have an aspirin and go back to bed
Qt Core: ok, take care!
Wol Euler: you too. my best wishes to you and your sister
Qt Core: strangely enough... i have some cooking that wait for me ;-)
Qt Core: ty
Wol Euler: heheheh
