In this session Riddle speaks at length about his Yom Kippur experiences.
Adams Rubble: Hello Riddle :)
Riddle Sideways: hello Adams ㋡
Riddle Sideways: things almost working ok, here
Adams Rubble: that sounds good?
Adams Rubble: ALMOST
Riddle Sideways: computers rebelling that they were turned off more than a day
Riddle Sideways: M$ did LONG update
Riddle Sideways: main computer not stable enough yet for SL
Adams Rubble: PHONE
Adams Rubble: back
Adams Rubble: Ohh, the infernal updates
Adams Rubble: I had a long update this morning. I wanted to blog and had to wait
Riddle Sideways: saw this one start on shutdown Tuesday
Adams Rubble: did you have an moments in the past day you might like to share?
Riddle Sideways: had to LONG finish up today
Riddle Sideways: lots of moments
Riddle Sideways: ㋡
Riddle Sideways: wish could remember them all
Riddle Sideways: funny, how the same words as before can conjure different images, thoughts, stories, meanings
Adams Rubble nods
Riddle Sideways: very thick book that looks intimidating on the first night
Riddle Sideways: however, only left side page was service parts. Right side was extra readings, poems, physms
Riddle Sideways: and then skipping some pages
Adams Rubble: physms?
Riddle Sideways: hmmm, how to spelt pysms
Riddle Sideways: those songy poems
Adams Rubble: hmm, never heard that word
Adams Rubble: sorry to interrupt your thought
Riddle Sideways: somebody donated a grand piano. It does not fit around to the front to be by the other band/chorus/instruments
Riddle Sideways: so Kol Nidre was back in the middle next to where we sat
Riddle Sideways: could just see the sheet music
Riddle Sideways: fun to watch empty and then very busy sections
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: due to tuesday's session research on the order of the services sections, had learned some of the mods over the years
Riddle Sideways: the Reform services moved the Yitzar section from the morning to the late afternoon manly to increase the number of people that would come back after the break
Adams Rubble: :)
Riddle Sideways: not spelt correct either. main computer still not responding quickly
Riddle Sideways: thought, oh that memorial service won't affect so much this year.
Riddle Sideways: then watching an old man across the aisle crying. and hearing so many names. got all teary
Riddle Sideways: the big book had so many really good footnotes
Riddle Sideways: one long footnote was about that continuious line of generations
Riddle Sideways: a 'me' standing here at a 'now'
Riddle Sideways: with a long line back in time to the beginning
Riddle Sideways: and the same line out into some future on and on
Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: all the people who ever lived or will live
Riddle Sideways: yes.
Riddle Sideways: and you being a point on that one-dimentional line
Riddle Sideways: puts ya in yer place
Adams Rubble: we are connected
Riddle Sideways: yes
Riddle Sideways: of course reading all about the one-dimensional one
Riddle Sideways: pulls one toward the higher dimensions
Riddle Sideways: the family trees with the branchs
Riddle Sideways: on a 2-dimensional page
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: then the relations with others that go off in their own 2d make up all the 3d pages
Riddle Sideways: and that is just the birth-death connections
Riddle Sideways: another thought that stuck for a long time was when a friend in the band was using hadn signals to ask how the sound was in our section
Adams Rubble: we are connected the way we weep, we laugh, we worry, we rejoice, we fear, we help, we love, we hate, we rest
Riddle Sideways: How (when holding a heavy book in one hand) can one use proper sign language for "the sound is just right at this chair, but have no idea about the other side of room away from this piano"
Riddle Sideways: the dimensions of connections grow exponentially
Riddle Sideways: go off in those 'String Therory" dimensions that are so hard to prove that they must be Fake News
Riddle Sideways: We rejoice with new parents and are included on the Rejoice lines
Riddle Sideways: some stronger and some weaker
Riddle Sideways: the Grandparents continue to rejoice. the third aunt removed only rejoices until out of sight and mind
Riddle Sideways: connections
Riddle Sideways: that :Now" gets so really really complicated
Riddle Sideways: with all the Now points from all those dimensions and planes and spaces coming throught one point
Riddle Sideways: [for editor: spelt Yizkor]
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: also: there is a prayer for the country and has a section to pray for the leaders
Riddle Sideways: on rosh Hassanah, friend Susan read it aloud and changed some of the words
Riddle Sideways: to reflect the times
Riddle Sideways: another read it on Yom Kippur and read the words as written, but paused once. so many whispered 'amen'
Riddle Sideways: Rabbi, who has to stay neutral in all things. just smiled
Riddle Sideways: the summon yesterday afternoon was about Social action.
Riddle Sideways: at the end there was mention of the new soup kitchen openning
Riddle Sideways: the need for about 15 volunteers
Riddle Sideways: so, 5 muslims, 5 christians and 5 jews
Riddle Sideways: well the 4 of us sitting together that do all that the lst couple years are 4. who else would join?
Riddle Sideways: but, that was not the troubling part. there was a portion
Riddle Sideways: that told of after the distruction of the second temple there was a split in how to continue
Riddle Sideways: half wanted to continue as before, with sacrifices. and many that wanted to change to more prayer and services oriented
Riddle Sideways: the let's sacrifice some animal people lost
Riddle Sideways: now there is a feeling that Social action, service to community, doing good works, etc. might win out over prayer, contemplation, etc.
Riddle Sideways: don't think that would happen, but it was a troublesome thought
Riddle Sideways: ok, looking back to see it was about 30 minutes ago that Adams got any words in
Riddle Sideways: Blabber mouth Riddle goes on and on
Adams Rubble: I am not seeing the connection between the destruction of the temple and social action vs. prayer and contemplation
Adams Rubble: the destruction of the second temple led to the birth of modern Judaism
--BELL--
Adams Rubble: focus on the community rather than on scarifice
Riddle Sideways: and all the people had to be and do the Jew stuff. Not just the priestly class (Aaron - Cohens)
Adams Rubble: hmmm, that is one way to put it
Riddle Sideways: PaB way. twist the sentences to play with different order of words
Adams Rubble: Christianity grew out of the post-Temple Judiasm
Adams Rubble: The Talmud grew out of it
Riddle Sideways: Tikkun Olam (make the world a better place) social justice social action grew out of it
Adams Rubble: this has been an interesting dioscussion. Unfortunately I am going to have to move on.
Adams Rubble: You will find I had my own explorations and thoughts influenced by Yom Kippur
Adams Rubble: when you read my blog
Adams Rubble: but that is an entorely different topic
Riddle Sideways: thank for letting Riddle take over
Riddle Sideways: will go read the blog
Riddle Sideways: perhaps not bombard Eden with rebuttals
Adams Rubble: I am very interested in the growth of Judaism after the destruction of the temple and hope we can talk about it some more; I am influenced (prejudiced?) by the growth of Christianity and maybe my perspective is skewed
Riddle Sideways: wait until Tuesday
Adams Rubble: I guess so by which time our minds may be someplace else :)
Riddle Sideways: yes, everybody at the 2,000 year point of view are a bit skewed ㋡
Riddle Sideways: then again, imagine if none were skewed
Adams Rubble: Dare I say that I sometimes wonder if israel has replaced the temple as a focal point
Riddle Sideways: a boring life
Riddle Sideways: you could say that
Adams Rubble: well thank you for your "report" today :)
Riddle Sideways: knowing that Israel refers to many people, state of minds and a com;icated state
Adams Rubble: Maybe we should pause at connections; sorry to change the topic :)
Riddle Sideways: thanks you
--BELL--
Adams Rubble: when one does geneology once quickly realizes we all are related to each other and thus connected
Riddle Sideways: yes
Adams Rubble: wells some of us; I am in contact with genealologists who believe in trump
Riddle Sideways: ?
Riddle Sideways: :))
Riddle Sideways: hold that for another time
Adams Rubble: some of my maternal ancestors have been republicans since Lincoln
Adams Rubble: ancestors meaning relatives
Adams Rubble: yes, I hope you have a good weekend. Are you affected by the power outages?
Riddle Sideways: no, and it was cold here
Riddle Sideways: that heat wave and fire warnings were not here
Adams Rubble: good
Adams Rubble: bye for now
