Adams Rubble: Good morning Riddle :)
--BELL--
Adams Rubble: wb Riddle :)
Riddle Sideways: well, let's try this again
Adams Rubble: those skates are dangerous
Adams Rubble: Nine ladies dancing
Riddle Sideways: and all those other verses
Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: What do you know about Spinoza?
Riddle Sideways: SL has now grown to the size it kills these computers
Riddle Sideways: hmmm
Riddle Sideways: drinks more coffee
Adams Rubble: I was reintroduced to him this week
Riddle Sideways: you go to the most interesting parties
Adams Rubble: seems like a good PaB subject of discussion except I do not know that much
Adams Rubble: hehe
Adams Rubble: Was not a good philosophy student back in the days
Riddle Sideways: trying to get tired computers to give a clue
Adams Rubble: he believed that all religions are about loving one's fellow beings
Riddle Sideways: spinoza
Adams Rubble: He taught against religions being used to control people
Riddle Sideways: Baruch
Adams Rubble still is not a good philosophy student
Riddle Sideways: nope, am neither
Adams Rubble likes things simple
Riddle Sideways: says, he laid the groundwork the Enlightenment
Riddle Sideways: that is good
Riddle Sideways: *for
Adams Rubble: apparently a good book about him is by Charles Jarrett
Adams Rubble: Spinoza a guide for the perplexed
Adams Rubble: I hope to go to the university library tomorrow to get it
Riddle Sideways: reading wikipedia
Riddle Sideways: the short form
Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: https://aeon.co/essays/at-a-time-of-zealotry-spinoza-matters-more-than-ever
Riddle Sideways: like the condensed books that were read the night before the book report was due
Adams Rubble: that is a long article but it is good
Adams Rubble apologizes for another tab on Riddles browser
Riddle Sideways: is ok, spent some of yesterday cataloging tabs
Riddle Sideways: ah, there are many youTubes also
Riddle Sideways: says he was an outwardly simple optical lens grinder
Riddle Sideways: spending time with telescopes and microscopes
Adams Rubble: huh?
Adams Rubble: Spinoza?
Riddle Sideways: wonder if that makes one look out and in
Adams Rubble looking at the Wikipedia article
Riddle Sideways: 3rd paragraph
Riddle Sideways: oh yes, the Lindens had a note about maintenance on the accounting servers
Adams Rubble: first I heard about the optical stuff
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: sometimes history does not need to record a person's daily boring job
Adams Rubble: he worked in his fathers export business but his father died young
Adams Rubble: Did you read the excommunication statement down the Wikipedia page?
Adams Rubble: he was excommunicated when he was 26 years old and apparently the statement was unusually harsh as one can see on the Wikipedia page
Adams Rubble: no one knows why he was excommunicated
Adams Rubble: they took up the case again, I think in 2012, and the elders refused to lift the excommunication
Riddle Sideways: readnig now
Adams Rubble: said if they did they would be saying they knew more than the elders at the time
Adams Rubble: Spinoza came up in my Luther course because, like Luther, he believed that each individual made his own decisions about God and this should not be dictated from outside
Riddle Sideways: hmmm
Adams Rubble: He also believed everyone should read the Bible but Spinoza also did not think the Bible was more important than other spiritual writings
Adams Rubble: Hopefully I am saying that correctly :)
Adams Rubble: the article to which I posted the link states the ideas more carefully
Riddle Sideways: said he wrote his book in latin
Riddle Sideways: so you can read it
Riddle Sideways: and published after his death
Adams Rubble: does not have anything lens grinding so not good for people with lens grindin interests
Riddle Sideways: so he never had to go on the book tour
Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: he was a good Latin student
Adams Rubble: and Hebrew
Riddle Sideways: seems very much in a place with Luther and other that spoke up. or wrote up
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: Hey, small thing in the wikipedia part about his dead father's biz
Adams Rubble: apparently my instructor thinks that :)
Riddle Sideways: he couldn't pay as much synagogue dues
Riddle Sideways: that might have turned the crowd against him
Adams Rubble: :(
Riddle Sideways: whoops, shuts up and goes back to coffee
Adams Rubble did not want to comment on the idea that religious dictate morals unless one can afford to pay :)
Adams Rubble: well, do not want to get too negative--was excited on rediscovering Spinoza
Adams Rubble: his writings are hard to read though
Adams Rubble: lots on the internet
Adams Rubble: in English :)
Adams Rubble: do not need your Latin dictionary
Riddle Sideways: just the wikipedia article goes on and on
Adams Rubble: or brush up on verb conjugations
Riddle Sideways: oh dear
Adams Rubble: no need for that
Riddle Sideways: please, do not hurt self
Adams Rubble: no review of declensions
Adams Rubble: no amo, amas amat
Adams Rubble: no hic hoc hiccup
Adams Rubble sings who put the amo in the amo amas amat...
Adams Rubble: who was that man....
Adams Rubble: I'd like to shake his hand
Adams Rubble: that folks is why I was a poor Latin student back in those days
Riddle Sideways: laughs
Riddle Sideways: just between us, never took Latin.
Riddle Sideways: so was poorer than you
Riddle Sideways: was never sure of the vast value it would add
Riddle Sideways: at the last school reunion, saw how much better those Latin students turned out
Adams Rubble: hehe
Adams Rubble: All of Gaul had three parts...
--BELL--
Adams Rubble: I had four years of Latin and look how I turned out. yikes
Riddle Sideways: so much better
Adams Rubble: then I went to col;lege and proceeded not to learn german
Adams Rubble: for two years
Riddle Sideways: took years of Maths and had so much trouble yesterday trying to correct calculate where the nail for a new picture should be hammered in
Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble ran off with the two pis
Adams Rubble: pies
Riddle Sideways: 2 pi?
Adams Rubble does not have the symbol for pie on the keyboard
Adams Rubble: 3.1416
Adams Rubble giggles
Riddle Sideways: rounded, yes
Riddle Sideways: hmmm, 2 pi is full circle
Adams Rubble likes her pies rounded
Riddle Sideways: pie are square
Riddle Sideways: a Latin keyboard would have a pi symbol
Riddle Sideways: maybe
Adams Rubble: do they have math keyboards?
Riddle Sideways: we have one hebrew keyboard in house
Adams Rubble: wow
Riddle Sideways: aproxamations
Riddle Sideways: keyboards that slowly approximate mathematical keys
Riddle Sideways: but can never get there
Riddle Sideways: now wondering if auto-complete keyboards with congregate for you
Adams Rubble: π
Riddle Sideways: congrats
Adams Rubble: :)
Riddle Sideways: how did you do that?
Adams Rubble: copy and paste
Adams Rubble ran away with the two πs
Riddle Sideways: look at an ASCII chart?
Riddle Sideways: and the pi bakers wife cut off their tails
Adams Rubble: If her knife was 7 inches long, and the tails were two inches, how fast were the mice travling
Riddle Sideways: between Cleveland and Newark
Adams Rubble: I think that is Scranton
Riddle Sideways: depends on the high road or the low road
Adams Rubble: yes low road Bethlehem
Riddle Sideways: the path not taken
--BELL--
