Wol Euler: osiyo korel
Wol Euler: lovely to see you again!
Korel Laloix: Osiyo.. smiles
Korel Laloix: Good to see you Wol. How have you been?
Wol Euler: well, any answer I could give is probably trivial compared to what you are doing and seeing and living through :)
Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: I'm well thanks
Wol Euler: and you?
Wol Euler: where and how are you?
Korel Laloix: In Florida. We ended up comming home early.
Wol Euler: O.O
Wol Euler: what happened?
Korel Laloix: So took the extra week and went to FL instead.
Korel Laloix: Well, a few things. one of the team got fired for breach of contract, others got bad tummy ill, and then there was a paperwork issue as well.
Wol Euler: hmmmmm
Korel Laloix: So we got about 85% of what we needed done so they just brought us home.
Wol Euler: well that is disappointing (I guess)
Wol Euler: how do you feel about it?
Korel Laloix: Not realy.. I was ready to come home for sure.
Wol Euler smiles.
Wol Euler: I guess everyone is asking you what it was like :) Do you have a standard answer yet?
Korel Laloix: Lots to process in my brain and heart from the trip.
Wol Euler nods.
Korel Laloix: Confusing I think is the best word so far.
Korel Laloix: But leaning toward horrible.
Wol Euler listens.
Korel Laloix: Just seeing people at their worst.
Korel Laloix: Just a lot weighing on me.
Korel Laloix: Never been to a RL funeral but saw a lot of death there.
Korel Laloix: I did not get to do the touristy Africa. I was seeing the real poverty and hostility.
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: hostility to ... what did you feel? was it personal?
Korel Laloix: Hostility to me as a woman in particular. We were in several situations where the guys in the group had to act like they were in charge for us to get anything done.
Wol Euler: wow
Korel Laloix: Was particularly bad in the Muslim areas we went to.
Wol Euler: somehow that is unexpected, my vision of Africa is that women do all the work anyway
Wol Euler: ah
Korel Laloix: Very true.. everywere we went out in the countr the women were working hard the guys were sitting around.
Wol Euler: yep :) that is what I picture in my mind
Korel Laloix: So people at their worst a lot of the time.
Korel Laloix: But some at their best as well. So not a completely negative experience.
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: what were some of the good aspects?
Korel Laloix: Seeing some of the Aid workers deeling with all the bad and still doing some good.
Korel Laloix: Some tribal elders actually helping us vs blocking us.
Wol Euler listens.
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: It was also kind of weird how they locals treated the African Americans so poorly, but in some places like that, I was treated better as I am dark but not African American. Very odd.
Wol Euler: indeed
Korel Laloix: Just glad to be back... with a bit more in the bank, still have my old job, some good resume lines, some extra pounds and some great life experiences.
Wol Euler smiles.
Korel Laloix: So overall, I guess it was well worth it.
Wol Euler: good"!
Korel Laloix: But also very glad the Liberia contract did not work out.
Wol Euler: so, what happens now (for you, regarding the trip and the experience)? is there any kind of debriefing or analysis or support?
Wol Euler: hello san
Santoshima Resident: hi Wol and Korel
Korel Laloix: Osiyo
Santoshima Resident: how're you both today?
Korel Laloix: Yes, then the shipment gets back to the states I have two more days set up to go over things. But that won't be for a few days.
Korel Laloix: Good.. relaxing in Florida....
Korel Laloix: So lovely to be back here.
Santoshima Resident: :)
Wol Euler: I just wonder whether somebody who went through that sudden intense experience would get some kind of help with the transition back home ...
Wol Euler smiles.
Korel Laloix: That would be nice, but not part of the contract. But I am talking things out with some close friends.
Wol Euler: good
Korel Laloix: I think I will be processing it all for quite a while.
Wol Euler: yep
Wol Euler smiles.
Korel Laloix: Met a couple of people that I will stay in contact with from there.
Korel Laloix: And was good to deal with one o fmy old professors as a boss and group member vs as a teacher. That was a learning experience as well.
Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler: well, welcome back :) I'm glad you made it back safely
Korel Laloix: Osiyo Qt
Santoshima Resident: hello Qt
Wol Euler: hello qt
Qt Core: Hi Wol, San an Korel! Are you back safely ?
Korel Laloix: I am very happy I did not get ill like the others. Felt bad for them, standing next to them you could hear their insides rumbling... bad.
Korel Laloix: Yes, back in Florida.
Wol Euler: ewwwww
--BELL--
Qt Core: did you got done what you had to do there ?
Korel Laloix: Most of it... a few things we missed, but got some other things along the way.
Korel Laloix: What has everyone else been up to?
Wol Euler: boring stuff actually, just work in the same place at the same tasks
Wol Euler: enjoying the last few days of glorious post-summer, before winter sets in
Santoshima Resident: fall house repair tasks, splitting firewood for fall and winter, teaching as necessary to earn a living,
Santoshima Resident: new sweetheart
Santoshima Resident: that's about it
Santoshima Resident: oh , and cat sitting for the month
Santoshima Resident: 2 giant tabbies
Korel Laloix: Oh nice... new sweetheart?... smiles oh do tell please.
Santoshima Resident: uhm, erm, that's it all there is to tell :)
Wol Euler smiles.
Santoshima Resident: qt? how about you?
Korel Laloix smiles
Qt Core: beside watching my country dissolving under rains nothing new
Korel Laloix: That sounds bad. Send it to California.
Qt Core: some places got in a few hours the rain of almost an year
Santoshima Resident: wow!
Wol Euler: O.O
Qt Core: worst area is Genova, as it is on the sea but with mountains just beside it so the water come down immediatly and fast
Qt Core: and as most of northern italy is overbuilt
Wol Euler nods.
Korel Laloix: We get occasional bad rains. But not ones that stay.
Korel Laloix: I got stuck in a flooding basement a while back, no fun.
Korel Laloix: The farmers happy or is it too much for them as well?
--BELL--
Qt Core: way too much
Korel Laloix: That can be bad. Our weather has been very tame the last couple of years.
Qt Core: many cultures were damaged , not only today but by one of the coldest and "rainest" summer, forst of all grapes and the wine industry
Korel Laloix: Very early winter for people in the states. Shortest growing season on record in some places.
Qt Core: and many hailstorms damaged all kind of crops and trees
Korel Laloix: Hope people are OK.
Qt Core: there were some death too
Korel Laloix: The hail here can be very damaging as well, but you have to be used to it.
Korel Laloix: brb
Korel Laloix: Sorry, back in a bit.
Santoshima Resident: hello Ari :)
Arisia Vita: greetings all
Qt Core: Hi Ari
Wol Euler: hello ari
Wol Euler: long time no see
Arisia Vita: I've missed you too
Korel Laloix: Back in a bit.. relog
Arisia Vita: is San guardian of the cookies today? :)
Santoshima Resident: uh, nope ... i believe those are Aph's
Wol Euler: help yourself though
Arisia Vita: ah, but she's away :)
Santoshima Resident: yes, bottomless jar
Wol Euler sighs.
Wol Euler: if only RL had those
Santoshima Resident: cookie addict?
Arisia Vita: I'll move if Korel returns
Santoshima Resident: plenty of cushions
--BELL--
Santoshima Resident: peaceful day, everyone ~ good to see you
Wol Euler: goodnight san
Arisia Vita: and you San
Wol Euler: and goodnight all, time for me to move on too
Wol Euler: take care
