    Adams Rubble: Hello Riddle :)
    Riddle Sideways: Hello Adams
    Riddle Sideways: :)
Adams Rubble: Glad to see you are still here Tuesday mornings :)
Riddle Sideways: have been coming here (almost) all Tuesdays
missed a few because of work travel and have not emailed the group (bad)
Adams Rubble: no, I had a course on Tuesday mornings
Adams Rubble: ohhh, scratch that :)
Adams Rubble: It is good of you to keep coming
Riddle Sideways: haven't been posting if nobody was here

Adams Rubble: You can be the first to know that I will be taking over the Sunday morning slot again
    Riddle Sideways: oh good
Riddle Sideways: Sunday morning is very hard to get to
Adams Rubble: it is the only one that I can get to :)
Adams Rubble: except on rare occasions
                   --BELL--
    Adams Rubble: like this morning'
    Riddle Sideways: glad you did
Riddle Sideways: some times Saturday night goes very vrey late
Adams Rubble: ohh yes, you are a misician
Riddle Sideways: :) if you call rock-n-roll music
    Adams Rubble: hehe
Adams Rubble: of course it is
Riddle Sideways: the young can stay up to 2am and get right up the next day
Adams Rubble: well many of the young are not up that early
Adams Rubble: they have a hard time getting to a ten o'clock class

Adams Rubble: There is something I have been wondering about
Adams Rubble: to change the subect
    Riddle Sideways: yes, please
Adams Rubble: The Torah is the main focus of the Jewish service
    Riddle Sideways: yes
Adams Rubble: How are the Psalms and other Biblical scriptures used?
Riddle Sideways: Partner could answer this much better, but ...
Riddle Sideways: The Torah got written and could/shall not be changed
Riddle Sideways: so additions and additional things like psalms
Riddle Sideways: get adding in other books
Riddle Sideways: the daily-weekly prayer books contain psalms
Riddle Sideways: just like the misnah(sp?) contains what might have been edited in later
Riddle Sideways: Is nice to have the original stuff and the thoughts of newer generations also
Riddle Sideways: The big committee re-writes don't distroy the originals
Adams Rubble: so things the Psalms are used then for individual use/devotion?
Adams Rubble: things like the Psalms
Adams Rubble: writings, not things :)
Riddle Sideways: yes (mostly) since they are songs of ...
    Riddle Sideways: praise, etc.
    Riddle Sideways: personal reflection,
Riddle Sideways: not so much laws
    Adams Rubble nods
Adams Rubble: thank you, that clarifies my question
Adams Rubble: It is interesting that the Psalms have found their way into Christian services
Riddle Sideways: yes, how did that happen?
Adams Rubble: That is another question :)
                   --BELL--
Adams Rubble: I imagine it is the acknowledgment that Christianity is built on the older tradition but in Christianity there is not a distinction between the Torah and the later canonical writigns
Adams Rubble: but I am not knowledgeable about those things
Adams Rubble: May I change the subject again?
Riddle Sideways: there the mentions of other books that are not the official bible
    Adams Rubble listens
Riddle Sideways: not that knowledgable, but wasn't there books by other authors
Riddle Sideways: obscure texts that some sects include
    Adams Rubble: yes
Adams Rubble: My original question was relating to the services though
    Adams Rubble: the weekly practice
Riddle Sideways: yes, daily services and observences include other stuff
Riddle Sideways: the themes and general order are the same
Riddle Sideways: and based off of getting through the Torah once a year
Riddle Sideways: the cycle within cycles repeats
Riddle Sideways: In traditional and large communities there are Sunday-Thursday meetings too
Riddle Sideways: prayer books for those days
Riddle Sideways: however, only twice have we gone to any of those
Riddle Sideways: they are still modeled off the shabath service order etc.
Adams Rubble: It is quite a commitment to go to daily services regularly
Riddle Sideways: which includes poetry, songs, words that are not in Torah
    Riddle Sideways: and stories
    Riddle Sideways: levels of commitments
    Adams Rubble nods
                   --BELL--
    Adams Rubble: Stories are important
Riddle Sideways: Men that didn't have (or disregarded) family responsiblities could go daily (if in walking distance)
Riddle Sideways: women couldn't go becuase they were busy
Riddle Sideways: others might not (need? use?) meetings with a group
Riddle Sideways: a personal religious moments at home daily
Riddle Sideways: yet isn't this like most all religians
    Adams Rubble: yes
Adams Rubble: it helps to remember how much different religions have in common
Riddle Sideways: daily devotions can be private or public every day
Riddle Sideways: they can last an hour or 9 seconds :)
    Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: hours or 9m seconds
Adams Rubble: In the Christian tradition there are hours and devotions at each of those hours
Adams Rubble: and Muslims pray 5 times a day
Riddle Sideways: in almost all religions
Riddle Sideways: sunrise and sunset are important in most of them
    Adams Rubble: yes
Riddle Sideways: and the start of a meal is observance time in most
    Adams Rubble nods
Riddle Sideways: after years of a 15 minute gong
    Adams Rubble: appreciation :)
Riddle Sideways: don't you auto meditate?
    Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: I am not all that disciplined
Adams Rubble: I had the gong on yesterday though
Riddle Sideways: there was a time, you wrote a note to self at each gong
    Adams Rubble: yes
Adams Rubble: I do that once in a while
Riddle Sideways: you had a special created alphabet code
    Adams Rubble: yes, still do
    Adams Rubble: tgt=think good thoughts
    Adams Rubble: gr=feeling grateful meditation
Riddle Sideways: almost put that into the PaB gong app
Adams Rubble: still I am not disciplined
Adams Rubble: which means sometimes I get hungry and need to find some sustenance :)
Riddle Sideways: not *so disciplined :)
Adams Rubble: still I guess even monks feel they could be more disciplined. hehe
    Riddle Sideways: yes
Adams Rubble: It is near the hour and I want to tank you for the discussion and for answering my questions :)
Adams Rubble: it always is good to see you
Riddle Sideways: a human mind condition maybe, that we never think we are good enough
                   --BELL--
    Riddle Sideways: yes, thank you
Riddle Sideways: have not had this good chat (on topic) for a long time
Adams Rubble: awwwww. It WAS nice
Adams Rubble: I must get back to the grindstone
    Riddle Sideways: yes
Adams Rubble: have a nice day :)
    Adams Rubble: bye for now
    Riddle Sideways: and thank you
