    The mysterious Raspberry Pi

Strange things tend to appear in bundles

Eden Haiku: Good morning PaB Listener Master. it's 7:00 am,
Eden Haiku: I remember the days when a cardboard cat would come to these sessions. I forgot her name. She was British I think. And there was this hermit who would transform herself into a tea tray.
    Eden Haiku: Hello Eliza :)
    Eden Haiku: Welcome Riddle :)
    Riddle Sideways: hi all
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Eden and Riddle :)
    Eliza Madrigal listens happily
Riddle Sideways: was able to get out of bed today :)
Riddle Sideways: thatz a good start
    Eliza Madrigal: it is
Eden Haiku: I have been entertaining the Listener Master for a few minutes with reminiscences of days past :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Riddle Sideways: ah, always fun
Eden Haiku: I'm delighted to see you both this morning;) How are you doing?
Riddle Sideways: the day is starting ok
Eliza Madrigal: happy to be here for a little while, hoping the repair people for a ceiling leak will wait until the hour is over to arrive :)
Eden Haiku: No problem Eliza :)
Eden Haiku: Day starting ok is a good start Riddle, as Eliza would say :)
Riddle Sideways: hmm, cealing leak could  be of roof leak
Eliza Madrigal: we're on the second floor of an apartment
Eden Haiku: Oh, sorry to hear Eliza :(
Riddle Sideways: oh, then could be upstairs tub overflowing
    Eliza Madrigal: likely
Eliza Madrigal: it is okay....was a bit of a wild weekend with mishaps
Eliza Madrigal: strange when things appear to come in bundles
Eden Haiku: reminds me I should check my downstairs neighbor appartment, he's been traveling in France,,,.
Eliza Madrigal: oh, you're a good neighbor :)
Riddle Sideways: yes, was told them usually come in threes
Eden Haiku: asked us to check for floods in the basement, leaking pipes.. when they freeze it happens sometimes,
Eden Haiku: Bundles of troubles yes :)
Eden Haiku: But nothing is freezing. February today and the river is not frozen at all! Sidewalks are without ice or snow, it's fine but totally abnormal.
Eliza Madrigal: snow storms across the NE seem to have come and gone already

    Reminiscing beginnings

Eliza Madrigal: are you feeling reminiscent today, Eden?
Eden Haiku: Winter blues I guess Eliza. First day of sun in a long time :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Eliza Madrigal: you have been writing beautifully though
Riddle Sideways: the suns month returns
Eden Haiku: Thanks Eliza. Writing is always a pleasure :)
Eden Haiku: I'm enjoying TSK exercises a lot. Reading the book is more difficult. Still in chapter 1:)
Riddle Sideways: yes, keep re-reading chapter 1
Eden Haiku: Some sparks of understanding then my mind goes blank again;)
    Riddle Sideways: :)
Eliza Madrigal: I relate to that.... feel as though I'm going along then snap back
Eliza Madrigal: last night the body was very solid all of a sudden
    Eliza Madrigal: so negotiating :)
Eden Haiku: Negociating, hehe that's a good idea :)
Eliza Madrigal: thankfully I don't think there is any aim to understand in a 'becoming an expert' kind of way
Eden Haiku: That's very liberating yes, I can feel that Eliza, by the way you handle the sessions.
    Riddle Sideways: just to Play
Eden Haiku: Creating "space" in our view of reality...
Eliza Madrigal: I really feel our way with the book and each other is the key, more so than the book on its own
Eliza Madrigal: getting to hear everyone is delightful
    Eden Haiku: It is!
Eden Haiku: The book was the kind of ground for creating Play as Being too it seems:)
    Eliza Madrigal: it was!
Eliza Madrigal: I feel like reading it puts us in touch with the beginnings but also where we are now in an interesting way
    Eden Haiku: yes!
Eliza Madrigal: although I'm a little daunted moving into the time section soon... as Wester said, that's when it gets weirder, lol
Eliza Madrigal: well, not too soon, but around the bend

    Before the beginning

Eden Haiku: Riddle, you have been at PaB from the beginning haven't you?
    Riddle Sideways: yep
Eliza Madrigal: before the beginning I think?
Riddle Sideways: Ways of Knowing was not so much about Space and Time
    Riddle Sideways: mostly on Knowledge
    Riddle Sideways: or seems so
Riddle Sideways: and no wheres as much fun Playing
Eden Haiku: ah, I see.. at the Kira Cafe it was, wasn'it?
Riddle Sideways: it was in qwaq
Riddle Sideways: yet another virtual world platform
    Eden Haiku: In qwaq! Wow!
Eden Haiku: remembers hearing about it in PaB. Respect to the elder Riddle :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)

    --BELL--

Elder Riddle and obsolete visual platforms

Eliza Madrigal: where Pema was a parrot
Riddle Sideways: no respect earned :)
Eden Haiku: Pema a parrot? And you Riddle?
Riddle Sideways: nope, Pema was with Molly as parrots in VideoRanch
    Eliza Madrigal: oooh
Riddle Sideways: Pema gave a series of 6(?) lectures in the barn
Riddle Sideways: they are online somewheres
    Riddle Sideways: in text
Eden Haiku: loves to hear about our avatars's ancestors on obsolete virtual plaforms :)
Riddle Sideways: VR3d is based off alpha Worlds
    Eliza Madrigal: me too
Eden Haiku: gives us a sense of history
Riddle Sideways: VR3d is still running, but something happened in the latest updates
Eliza Madrigal: qwaq was more classroom like I think?
Riddle Sideways: that lost audio streams to about half the residents
Riddle Sideways: yes, qwaq has whiteboards and powerpoints on the walls
Eden Haiku: When did you first ventured into a virtual world Riddle?
    Riddle Sideways: ooooooooooooo way back
    Eden Haiku: In the nineties?
    Riddle Sideways: maybe late 80's
Riddle Sideways: crude chat rooms with avitars at first [ I like "avitars", so I didn't correct this golden typo]
Eden Haiku: As far away in time? Wow! But you are working with computers so I guess it was natural for you...
Riddle Sideways: and explore worlds at first
Eliza Madrigal tries to reconcile idea of virtual worlds with her late 80s experience
Eden Haiku: When did you start coming in-world Eliza?
Eliza Madrigal: not until 2009, to virtual worlds
Eden Haiku: Me too, 2009. We are late bloomers:)
Eliza Madrigal: I used to host book clubs and things when the kids were little, in regular chat rooms and message boards
Riddle Sideways: no fantasy worlds before SL?
Eliza Madrigal: only text type... remember when paying for internet and would download lots of things to respond to offline then send in the middle of the night
Eliza Madrigal: by the minute I mean :)
Eden Haiku: I bought my first personal computer in 1998: the Bondi blue iMac. Before that, I used PC at university or my friend's MacIntosh....
    Eliza Madrigal: fancy first!
Eden Haiku: It was the user's friendly feature that got me :)
Eliza Madrigal: think first computer was 1996 or so... just using for finances and school work
Eden Haiku: I remember being part of a dream group.
    Eliza Madrigal: really?
    Riddle Sideways: where? how?
Eden Haiku: Not even chat room. Just discussion group.
Eden Haiku: You would post your dream
    Riddle Sideways: ah
Eden Haiku: And the leader of the group would interpret it
Eden Haiku: as well as other members
    Eden Haiku: It was nice
Eliza Madrigal: neat feeling... first reaching out that way
Eden Haiku: Yes. But it was so slow.....
y Riddle Sideways: netnews was nice, being part of a special interest club
Eden Haiku: Compared to being in real time like we are now :)
    Eden Haiku: Netnews?
    y Riddle Sideways: or Usenet
    Riddle Sideways: forget the names

Exit plain green text on blackish background

Eden Haiku: I used Internet mainly for work. This was before my CandryCrush days :)
Riddle Sideways: around 85-86 a co-worker bounced in the office to force us to try some HTML browser thingie
    Eden Haiku: listens
Riddle Sideways: oh dear Candy Crush Saga
    Eliza Madrigal grins
Riddle Sideways: all of a sudden the plain green text on blackish background
Riddle Sideways: went to formatted pages with hyper-links and then pictures
Riddle Sideways: hyper-links were the coolest. if you wanted to read more depth you could or just get the main points/summaries
Eliza Madrigal: you were on the edges... pioneering
    Eden Haiku: A quantic leap!
Riddle Sideways: thatz why is hurt so much
Riddle Sideways: on that cutting edge
Eden Haiku: What do you mean Riddle?
Riddle Sideways: the latest-newest tech and software
Riddle Sideways: are always buggy and time-wasters
    Eliza Madrigal: ah
    Eliza Madrigal: higher expectations
Eden Haiku: Ah yes, it was your work...
Riddle Sideways: even today. this little Raspberry Pi board on the desk does not run like most of the forums on internet say it should
Riddle Sideways: it was always the same
    Eden Haiku: ah...
Eden Haiku: wondering what a Raspberry Pi looks like...
Riddle Sideways: way back, had a "graphics" board
    Eden Haiku: googling :)
    Riddle Sideways: [Google it]
Riddle Sideways: and made pixels move around
Eden Haiku: Ah, I see it now :)
Riddle Sideways: days later made a blocky 8-bit pixel avitar move on screen  [avitar, maybe they used that name back then?)
    Riddle Sideways: with a 'joy-stick'
    Eliza Madrigal: :)))
    Riddle Sideways: was sooo happy
Eden Haiku: Wow, how much fun it was I suppose :)
    Riddle Sideways: and exhausted
    Eden Haiku: A kid with mini-bricks :)
    Eden Haiku: How many hours?
    Eliza Madrigal: pushed to limits
Riddle Sideways: wiring up a joy-stick so computer would read it was hard
    Eden Haiku: Wow!
Riddle Sideways: had to burn fingers on a soldering iron
Riddle Sideways: there was the Original Manoth cave adventure
Riddle Sideways: for the PDP   [whatever that is :]
Riddle Sideways: that got ported to micro-computers
Riddle Sideways: that 'might' have been thought to be a World
Eden Haiku: is feeling like in prehistoric caves of our virtual world ;)
Riddle Sideways: it was single player
Eliza Madrigal: what a neat phrase "might have been thought to be a world"
Riddle Sideways: but was so immersive
    Eden Haiku: how so?
Riddle Sideways: playing late into the night
    Riddle Sideways: dark office
    Eden Haiku: :)
Riddle Sideways: and an Orc would appear from around the corner
    Eliza Madrigal: lol
    Riddle Sideways: eeeeeeeech
    Eden Haiku: LOL
Eliza Madrigal: occulus is coming out officially in just a few weeks ... wonder if really a next shift
Eden Haiku: imagining Riddle screeeching in his dark office...
    Riddle Sideways: :)
Eliza Madrigal: letting the orcs in
Riddle Sideways: probably is the next thing

    --BELL--

    Virtual roller coaster rides

Riddle Sideways: have a Cardboard and it is lots of fun
Eliza Madrigal: what can you do? be creative like SL?
Riddle Sideways: $20 instead of several hundreds
Riddle Sideways: seems best to sit down in a swivel chair :)
Riddle Sideways: standing can make one bump into stuff
    Riddle Sideways: and fall
Eden Haiku: There is a virtual reality visit of 10 libraries of the world at the Montreal's Great Library. I want to try it. You have to book in advance to get the immersive goggles..or cask, not sure.
Eliza Madrigal: worries that it will be more isolating.... people in each exceptional own worlds
    Eliza Madrigal: that's neat Eden!
Eden Haiku: Heard it can be kind of scary...
Eliza Madrigal: I do like the idea of kiosks.... kids getting to see museums and such that might not otherwise
Riddle Sideways: there are museum tours already
Eden Haiku: If you have vertigo.
Riddle Sideways: looking at all sides of sculptures
    Eden Haiku: Neat!
    Riddle Sideways: at your speed
Riddle Sideways: then there are roller coaster rides

Eliza Madrigal: just wondering how it can translate to something like we have, where we get to meet sort of unexpectedly spontaneously from corners of the worldRiddle Sideways: SL and Occulus are trying it

Eden Haiku: I guess developers will create worlds in which people will be able to meet Eliza.
Riddle Sideways: High Fedelity (sp?) are better
Riddle Sideways: there you can touch, hold hands
Eliza Madrigal: that is the new SL?
    Eden Haiku: Wow!
    Riddle Sideways: [bad joke deleted]
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eden Haiku: wanna hear the bad joke :)
    Eliza Madrigal: hahah
Riddle Sideways: yes, SL created went to a new company
    Riddle Sideways: giggles
Eliza Madrigal: I don't want to meet people just based on familiar backgrounds or interests like "chess" or what have you ...
Riddle Sideways: ummm, isn't that what PaB is?
    Riddle Sideways: sort of
Eden Haiku: Right:.much more interesting to hear from people from different backgrounds.
Eliza Madrigal: sort of... but more random I think
    Eliza Madrigal: greater randomness input
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: I didn't come into Sl and search for this kind of community
Eden Haiku: All interested in discovering the nature of reality.
Eliza Madrigal: and it is not a place unto itself.... is porous
Riddle Sideways: was already interested in the next version of WoK
Eliza Madrigal: but that's true, interest in nature of reality... but had to be uncovered
Eden Haiku: Riddle is not transporting us into the future :) [ I meant "is NOW transporting us" but typoed not]
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
    Riddle Sideways: hmmmmm :)
Eliza Madrigal: am sure smarter than me are figuring it out but I hope they are considering these things :)
Eden Haiku: If WoK is in the future, is it?
Riddle Sideways: the next chapters of TSK
Riddle Sideways: will transport us in time
    Riddle Sideways: be it future?
Eden Haiku: Sorry I meant "now' transporting us into the future... Typo.
    Riddle Sideways: love those typos
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Riddle Sideways: *not worked
Eden Haiku: Wok is Ways of Knowing, I realize it now... I thought it was a future virtual world :)
    Eliza Madrigal: neat idea
    Eliza Madrigal: typos are golden
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Eliza Madrigal: vehicle of knowing
    Eden Haiku: Golden typos :)
Riddle Sideways: when using voice, there will be even more "verbal typos"
    Riddle Sideways: quick dumb statements
    Riddle Sideways: no backspace keys
Eden Haiku: Especially with accents like mine, no "h",,,
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Eden Haiku: Dumb jokes :)
Eliza Madrigal: sometimes can hear accents in text
    Eden Haiku: You do?
Eliza Madrigal nods.... one of the things I've been surprised about when meeting rl avatars, is how similar I imagined their voices
    Riddle Sideways: or not
Eliza Madrigal: Corvi especially, was exact

    --BELL--

Eden Haiku: Noticed I wrote 'wagon' to mean subway car in a TSK report.
Eliza Madrigal: then again, many have heard for little bits and then just hear that way
Eliza Madrigal: wagon car :)) cute expression
Eden Haiku: Then checked the Webster and saw that wagons are for animal transport only :(
Eliza Madrigal: hm, wouldn't think that
Eliza Madrigal: need to go, not sure where the repair people are but should call/follow up before too late in the day
Eliza Madrigal: thanks so much Eden, and Riddle <3
Riddle Sideways: well, need to get garbage/recycling collected and out
Eden Haiku: Good luck with the leak Eliza
Riddle Sideways: need to get moving
    Riddle Sideways: thank you
    Eliza Madrigal: :::breathe::::
Eliza Madrigal: thanks very much, bfn
Eden Haiku: Bye Riddle, thank you for all the stories this morning!
    Eden Haiku: Hugs!
    Riddle Sideways: by by
    Riddle Sideways: have your best
