    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Tura :)
    Tura Brezoianu: hi Eliza
    --BELL--1.00
Eliza Madrigal: Have just returned from the Cement Factory Exhibit
Tura Brezoianu: I visited that a day or two ago
Eliza Madrigal: always an interesting sensation, looking at photos of 'real world' from inside of SL
Eliza Madrigal: Hi skipping Agatha :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Evening
Tura Brezoianu: I couple of them, I cammed around them, but they stayed flat. :)
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Eliza Madrigal: (Aggers, talking about Adams exhibit)
Agatha Macbeth: Yes I just came from there
Eliza Madrigal: favorite was the clowns, I think
Agatha Macbeth: The garbage and the flowers
    Eliza Madrigal hums
    Agatha Macbeth plugs you in
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: Anything interesting on the mind today?
Agatha Macbeth: Any further with the book thing?
Eliza Madrigal: Not for me, and no input via emails, so...
    Eliza Madrigal: (trails off)
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh
Eliza Madrigal: have you given more consideration?
Agatha Macbeth: Haven't really had time to think about it
Eliza Madrigal: I hope that by hosting book sessions we haven't forgotten how to show up and explore on the spot ^.^
Agatha Macbeth: At least the wiki got sorted
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Eliza Madrigal: and there was an issue yesterday too, Alfred followed up on again
    Agatha Macbeth: Bless him
Agatha Macbeth: I'll send a bone to Moscow
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: that does mean we can get to the 'topics' page
    Agatha Macbeth: Well hopefully
Agatha Macbeth: Not much point having it otherwise :p
    Eliza Madrigal: https://wiki.playasbeing.org/Chat_Logs/Suggested_Theme_Topics_for_Discussion_at_the_Pavilion_and_Elsewhere_-_posted_April_19%2c_2012
Eliza Madrigal: We've had it since 2012 :)
Bleu Oleander's current display-name is "Bleu".
Eliza Madrigal: Maybe we need a random grab box :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bleu
    Bleu Oleander: hi all :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello Bleuji
Eliza Madrigal: was just looking at the topics list, since we haven't heard back much about books via email, etc. https://wiki.playasbeing.org/Chat_Logs/Suggested_Theme_Topics_for_Discussion_at_the_Pavilion_and_Elsewhere_-_posted_April_19%2c_2012
Bleu Oleander: is anyone reading a good book?
Eliza Madrigal: I'm reading course books, and perusing Jonathan Strange again
Agatha Macbeth: Does he look OK?
Eliza Madrigal: :) I remembered how much I liked the feeling of reading that book, when it came to mind during dream session
Eliza Madrigal: but I can't delve completely into it right now, so just reading parts
    Bleu Oleander: what's it about?
Agatha Macbeth: I'm trying to get through That Hideous Strength by CS Lewis
Eliza Madrigal: A novel about "English magic"
    Agatha Macbeth listens
    Agatha Macbeth listens louder
    --BELL--1.15
Bleu Oleander: big book ... worth the time?
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, I'd like to hear what brought you there, Agatha
    Agatha Macbeth: No you first
Eliza Madrigal: Jonathan Strange is well worth the time, but it is definitely a lot of time
Eliza Madrigal: the best bits are in the footnotes
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Eliza Madrigal: so, imo, better to read a book in-hand than kindle
Agatha Macbeth: Not even sure who he is
Eliza Madrigal: The full title is Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell
    Agatha Macbeth: Riiight
Eliza Madrigal: it is just the language that is delightful, the humor and mood
Eliza Madrigal: the premise is that magic has disappeared from England and old philosophers sit around talking about it now
Eliza Madrigal: nobody actually doing it
Agatha Macbeth: Oh people are doing it, don't worry
Eliza Madrigal: until there is Mr. Norrell, who has hoarded all the books.... and then Jonathan Strange, a kind of new magician
Agatha Macbeth: But as for philosophers, well who knows?
Eliza Madrigal: but it folds in history and war in clever ways
    Eliza Madrigal: :)) Agatha
Eliza Madrigal: Wol liked it too
    Agatha Macbeth: Bless her
Agatha Macbeth: Saw her at Fracture last week
Eliza Madrigal: What brought you to The Hideous Strength, Agatha?
Agatha Macbeth: Just something that's been on my to do list for ages
    Agatha Macbeth: Years in fact
Agatha Macbeth: I was primarily interested cos he was one of JRRT's buddies
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Agatha Macbeth: The had a kind of club going at Oxford
Agatha Macbeth: But his style is dreadfully heavy going
Agatha Macbeth: Like wading through cement
    Eliza Madrigal: bummer
Agatha Macbeth: I'm still waiting for something to happen
Eliza Madrigal: Loved all the Narnia books as a child
Agatha Macbeth: Well the Narnia stuff is good, but this...
Tura Brezoianu: So did I, although the Christian allegoy went over my head at the time
    Eliza Madrigal: me too, definitely
Agatha Macbeth: It's like reading the minutes of committee meetings over and over
    Eliza Madrigal: oh no
Eliza Madrigal: Are you going to continue?
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh yes
    Eliza Madrigal giggles
Agatha Macbeth: I want to see what (or if anything) happens
Agatha Macbeth: But the heroine is quite an interesting person
    Eliza Madrigal: that's something
Agatha Macbeth: In fact oddly enough the females are the most interesting people in the book
    Agatha Macbeth: By far
Agatha Macbeth: She has dreams which come true :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Oh :))
    Agatha Macbeth: Yeh
Agatha Macbeth: Zen might appreciate it :P
Agatha Macbeth: Anyway I'll have another bash after this
Agatha Macbeth: It just seems like he didn't handle 'real world' stuff as wellas fanrasy
    Agatha Macbeth: Or fantasy
Tura Brezoianu: Did you read the earlier books in the trilogy?
Agatha Macbeth: That's the first innit?
    Agatha Macbeth: I thought
Eliza Madrigal: was just about to ask that, after looking at the website
Agatha Macbeth: Or am I wrong
Tura Brezoianu: It's the third, the others are Out Of The Silent Planet and Perelandra
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh poo
    Agatha Macbeth: Got that wrong
Eliza Madrigal: Oddly, I've only ever heard of this one by title before
Agatha Macbeth: Oh well I'll finish this and look at the others later
Eliza Madrigal: especially if you end up feeling invested
Agatha Macbeth: I'll do a George Lucas
Tura Brezoianu: I don't remember much about OOTSP, but Perelandra is mostly set on Venus
Agatha Macbeth: Oh that might be more interesting then
Eliza Madrigal: have to admire the ambition of that
Agatha Macbeth: He doesn't actually mention the timeframe either, so one supposes it was intended to be the 40s when it was written, but somehow it feels like it should be more advanced than that
Agatha Macbeth: Has a kind of 1984 feel to it
Eliza Madrigal: hm, maybe it is just dry and heavy for part of the book
    Agatha Macbeth: Stormy :)
Agatha Macbeth: Could be, we'll see
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Storm :) We're talking about books in general, not as session themes
    Bleu Oleander: hi Storm :)
Agatha Macbeth: And thanks for that info Tu
Storm Nordwind: Good afternoon/evening. So sorry to be late.
Eliza Madrigal: Would you like a note, or prefer to jump in?
    Agatha Macbeth: Not the pool
Agatha Macbeth: Give him one during the bell
Storm Nordwind: Only if you think it would help. I can listen. Thank you anyway :)
Agatha Macbeth: (Which I can't hear)
Eliza Madrigal: you can see the script in chat though?
    --BELL--1.30
    Agatha Macbeth: Nope
    Agatha Macbeth: Muted
    Eliza Madrigal: @@
    Agatha Macbeth: Too irritating
Eliza Madrigal: What are you reading now, Bleu?
Bleu Oleander: "selfie" by wil storr
    Bleu Oleander: very interesting
Bleu Oleander: and just finished 'the darkening age' by c. nixey
Storm Nordwind notes that Agatha is reading the Space Trilogy
Eliza Madrigal: hm, not familiar with either
    Agatha Macbeth: Backwards :p
    Eliza Madrigal: hahha
Bleu Oleander: very good both of them
Agatha Macbeth: 'Let's start at episode 4'
    Agatha Macbeth: 'OK George'
    Eliza Madrigal: non-fiction?
Bleu Oleander: also just finished 'social creature'
    Bleu Oleander: 2 non-fiction and 1 fiction
Agatha Macbeth: A good balance I'd say
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
Bleu Oleander: I like to mix it up these days
Eliza Madrigal: although that everyone reads so much on their own may be a barrier to group book study :)
Agatha Macbeth: Hm how so Liz?
Eliza Madrigal: people have their own rhythms and ways of reading
Bleu Oleander: can always add another :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh of course
Eliza Madrigal: so then to fit it into a shared pattern is sometimes not as easy as might seem
Agatha Macbeth: But that's the nature of the beast IMO
Bleu Oleander: we share with many different patterns
Eliza Madrigal: I've enjoyed all of our attempts
    Bleu Oleander: me too
    Agatha Macbeth: Absolutely
Eliza Madrigal: Tura, Storm, any books to throw into the mix?
Storm Nordwind: Recommendations, or that we're reading?
Eliza Madrigal: that we're reading or, well, either/both
Tura Brezoianu: At the moment I'm reading "Lifeshocks and how to love them", by Sophie Sabbage. It would take a while to explain what it is though.
    Eliza Madrigal: quite a title
Tura Brezoianu: It relates to a personal development course I did about 25 years ago, then called "The Life Training" and now called "More to Life".
Tura Brezoianu: It began I think in the 70s. This is the first ever presentation of its ideas in a book.
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, if you've kept interest all this time it seems well worth exploring
Tura Brezoianu: I found the course very valuable, and the ideas and methods in it have influenced me ever since.
Tura Brezoianu: So I'm reading the book to see how she has gone about presenting something I'm already familiar with.
Tura Brezoianu: I don't know how the book comes across to readers new to it.
Storm Nordwind: As for me, after a little break, I am reading books on writing. But I also just ordered a book called "The Nordic Theory of Everything: In Search of a Better Life" by Anu Partanen. I think it's arriving tomorrow. I think I'm writing much more than reading right now.
    Agatha Macbeth: That sounds good
Eliza Madrigal: yes, interested in all of these now :)) (lots of tabs open)
    --BELL--1.45
Eliza Madrigal: I think I'm just drawn to something fantastical at the moment, to balance out the memorizing and other study
Eliza Madrigal: something that can sufficiently take me into another world
Agatha Macbeth: Always a good place to be :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Bleu Oleander: try 'social creature'
Agatha Macbeth pictures Liz on her unicorn
Eliza Madrigal: "a wicked original with echoes of the greats" (from SC description)
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Eliza Madrigal: hopefully for the Fall, we'll receive more feedback about what to read together
    Tura Brezoianu: BONG! (for Ag)
    Agatha Macbeth smokes happily
Eliza Madrigal laughed through the pause
Agatha Macbeth: A hookah smoking caterpillar
Storm Nordwind: I ordered one book recently ("Strong Words: Modern Poets on Modern Poetry" by W. N. Herbert, Matthew Hollis), and it was due to arrive within days, and I got a groveling note from the supplier saying it would take 3 months. Got a refund, switched supplier, and same thing happened, with same groveling. Groveling has become institutionalized
Eliza Madrigal: difficult book to find?
Agatha Macbeth: Did they say 'Have a nice day?'
Storm Nordwind: Advertised on the evil Amazon and supposedly easy to get.
    Eliza Madrigal: ah :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah
Eliza Madrigal: Amazon is my ethical downfall
Storm Nordwind: They included the following, quoted verbatim...
    Agatha Macbeth: Watch for piranhas
Storm Nordwind: "Mistakes and unexpected things sometimes may happen, but to forgive is divine. Though we could not change the fact that happened in the past, however, by forgiving, the meaning of the past and its influence towards the future could be changed for the better, isn't it? If it is possible, would you mind accepting my apology?"
    Eliza Madrigal: whoa
Agatha Macbeth: They actually said that?
Storm Nordwind: Form letter. Got it twice.
    Agatha Macbeth: My how poetic
Eliza Madrigal: a bit much for the context :P
Tura Brezoianu: Sounds like one supplier with multiple shop fronts.
    Storm Nordwind: Yes
Agatha Macbeth: Or patronising - whichever way one looks at it :p
Eliza Madrigal: did you send them back something ?
    Storm Nordwind: Haha!
Storm Nordwind: Maybe a hex >;)
Agatha Macbeth: Esther Rantzen would love this
Storm Nordwind: Is she still... ?!
    Agatha Macbeth: Alive? Yes
    Agatha Macbeth: Toothy as ever
    Storm Nordwind laughs
Agatha Macbeth: I used to fancy her quite a bit
Agatha Macbeth: Must be the teeth - very Princess Ann-ish
Storm Nordwind: Not quite so equine though
Eliza Madrigal googles Princess Anne teeth
Agatha Macbeth: Still a turn on IMHO :P
Tura Brezoianu: Imagines eBay hits for fancy dress clip-on Princess Anne teeth
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Agatha Macbeth: If you see any get 'em!
Storm Nordwind: Well Mr. Mercury from Queen did very well so appendaged.
Agatha Macbeth: Good old Fred bless him
Eliza Madrigal: Queen film coming out, learned yesterday
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh?
Eliza Madrigal: was off-put at first but it seems to be thoughtful
Eliza Madrigal: would post link but too many tabs open :)
Agatha Macbeth: You old mulitasker you
Storm Nordwind: You should have a contest with Riddle
    --BELL--2.00
Agatha Macbeth: Not a bot contest tho
Eliza Madrigal: would lose to Riddle and bots
Storm Nordwind: Riddle regularly has over 30 tabs open by the end of a session
    Eliza Madrigal: @@
    Agatha Macbeth: Yeh, happens
Agatha Macbeth: We are a fairly link happy lot
Eliza Madrigal: more and more over the years
    Agatha Macbeth: Ar
Eliza Madrigal: I think we actually had sessions about how to keep links to a minimum at some poing
    Eliza Madrigal: point* lol
Storm Nordwind: Poing was good :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Pong too
Eliza Madrigal: :) must be because I was imagining a giant rubber mallet rising out of the lotus to bomp chatters-over-the-bell on the head
    Agatha Macbeth: 0.0
Eliza Madrigal: first being me :)
    Agatha Macbeth: As one does
    Bleu Oleander: :)
    Tura Brezoianu: Next scripting project!
Eliza Madrigal: next art as being? haha... inventions for the bell
Storm Nordwind: Beware mentioning that with a builder/scripter around. I... sorry... they will hack it for the own nefarious ends.
    Bleu Oleander: ha!

    The bells! The bells!

Agatha Macbeth: What happened to the old bell Stormy?
Storm Nordwind: I have them both.
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh
Agatha Macbeth: Would be nice to have them back
Storm Nordwind: They were independent of the logging mechanism
Agatha Macbeth: Wol and I both tried to find a better one but no joy
    Eliza Madrigal: the gentle ding
Storm Nordwind: But now with Wol's random timing, syncing might be hard
    Eliza Madrigal: wondered about that
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh well
Storm Nordwind: The gentle ding was accused of being a microwave done bell.
Agatha Macbeth: Oh I liked it
Eliza Madrigal: haha, I don't remember that. I liked it too
    Eliza Madrigal: funny the preferences
Agatha Macbeth: Better than a steel pipe falling on concrete anyway
    Agatha Macbeth: Thank you :)
Storm Nordwind: You are most welcome
    Storm Nordwind: :)
Tura Brezoianu: Just the words I was looking for!
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Agatha Macbeth: Did the job perfectly
    Eliza Madrigal looks for train
Tura Brezoianu: Seeing what bells I have in inventory
Agatha Macbeth: Quasi would be proud
Agatha Macbeth: That's a nice one
    Tura Brezoianu: yes
Agatha Macbeth: Sounds like a bowl bell
    Eliza Madrigal likes lingering gongs
Storm Nordwind: Two from the Lokeshvara temple
    Agatha Macbeth: Right
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh my
Agatha Macbeth: Poe would have a field day
Eliza Madrigal: feel so peaceful :)
    Agatha Macbeth: George time?
Bleu Oleander: bye all ... take care
Eliza Madrigal: George and other things :)
    Storm Nordwind: Bye! :)
Eliza Madrigal: bye Bleu! take care too
    Tura Brezoianu: bye everyone
Eliza Madrigal: Bye Aggers, Tura, Storm :) Night!
    Agatha Macbeth: Tatty bye
