The Guardian for this meeting was Bruce Mowbray. The comments are by Bruce Mowbray.
Bruce Mowbray: Hi, Kori.
Korel Laloix: Heya
Bruce Mowbray: Haven't seen you in a LONG time!
Korel Laloix: How have you been?..
Korel Laloix: Maybe a year or so, I think.
Bruce Mowbray: Fairly well, thank you. And you?
Korel Laloix: Darn RL
Korel Laloix: Ups and downs.
Bruce Mowbray: Oh yea, a LOT of ups and downs for me, too.
Korel Laloix: And.. complications. but nothing that I can't sort out long term.
Bruce Mowbray: Hi, Riddle.
Korel Laloix: Heya
Korel Laloix: And trying to go mesh as well.. this is complicated.
Riddle Sideways: Hey All
Riddle Sideways: long time no see, Korel
Bruce Mowbray: I crashed my drone this afternoon -- making a video in the rain -- (not on purpose... it started pouring down when I was at 100 feet altitude and half a mile off.)
Korel Laloix: So many more variables as well
Korel Laloix: Oh ouch.
Bruce Mowbray: Mesh is indeed complicated.
Riddle Sideways: oooo poor thing
Korel Laloix: Yes.. not been on much in the last year or so
Korel Laloix: Fixable?
Bruce Mowbray: I've already fixed it.
Bruce Mowbray: and flown it again.
Riddle Sideways: good
Korel Laloix: Oh great...
Riddle Sideways: that was fast
Korel Laloix: So not that bad of a bump then.
Bruce Mowbray: Wanna see a vid I made two days ago?
Riddle Sideways: had to go half mile in the rain
Bruce Mowbray: NO, it was a BADDDD bump.
Riddle Sideways: ?
Bruce Mowbray: Tore out five wires from the camera.
Bruce Mowbray: yes, sideways into a wall - upon landing.
Korel Laloix: So you are just that good of a repair man is what you are saying... smiles
Bruce Mowbray: fortunately I didn't HIT anyone.
Bruce Mowbray: Not so good at repairing people.
Bruce Mowbray: Here's the vid:
Bruce Mowbray: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VLQnoEnKCU&feature=youtu.be
Bruce Mowbray: (Turn on your sound.)
Riddle Sideways: Kor (might have missed it, but) how is life, the universe, babies, partner, jobs, and anything extra?
Korel Laloix: Pretty.. I would love to go camping on that island.
Korel Laloix: Not sure the last time I chatted with anyone... let's see
Riddle Sideways: yes, very nice looking island
Riddle Sideways: love name Circle Ville
Riddle Sideways: maybe a year ago
Korel Laloix: Annie is about 18 months old now.
Riddle Sideways: which is why you have not been online
Riddle Sideways: ;)
Korel Laloix: Sama is almost done with her theology degree.. should be ordained in another year or so.
Riddle Sideways: great getting there
Korel Laloix: Got a new job working at the state capital, so we moved to OK City.
Riddle Sideways: in a city? maybe not so good
Riddle Sideways: remembering how Hot OKcity is
Korel Laloix: I got pregnant as well.. but miscarried .. I did not take that very well.. just now sort of putting that behind me.. trying again soon though.
Riddle Sideways: sorry
Korel Laloix: The in-laws are moving here to be close to the grandkids...
Korel Laloix: Thank you.. I was not easy to live with for a bit...
--BELL--
Bruce Mowbray: Wow. You've had QUITE a challenging year, Kori.
Riddle Sideways: have lived with a person that has had two
Korel Laloix: Things are better now though.. moving in the right direction I think.
Riddle Sideways: great
Bruce Mowbray: Happy to hear that.
Bruce Mowbray: Hey, Riddle... I was finally able to get your aquarium livecam.
Bruce Mowbray: Did it work at the conference?
Riddle Sideways: ha, good
Korel Laloix: Me as well.. just still trying to make things up to Sama.. was not a good couple of months living with me.
Riddle Sideways: for several days,
Korel Laloix: What kind of conference?
Bruce Mowbray: AI conference.
Bruce Mowbray listens to Riddle explain.
Riddle Sideways: small online conference that did not go the way wished
Bruce Mowbray: Oh dear.
Riddle Sideways: was in a different location than the stuff being shown so it was nice that the tech worked
Korel Laloix: In a good, bad or other way?
Riddle Sideways: both, make some contacts/networking, but it was far too light
Riddle Sideways: on content
Bruce Mowbray: ahhh, sorry.
Bruce Mowbray: No breakthroughs with chatbots, then?
Riddle Sideways: no, the brain is broken
Bruce Mowbray: So sorry.
Korel Laloix: I can identify with broken brain for sure
Korel Laloix: brb
Bruce Mowbray nods, me too.
Riddle Sideways: also
Bruce Mowbray: I have lots of broken brain company in southern Ohio, though.
Riddle Sideways: ha! politically wise
Bruce Mowbray: Well, culturally, too... and with opiates.
Riddle Sideways: hey, what is up with that election
Riddle Sideways: did anybody win?
[I missed that line during our discussion. Yes, the Republican barely won – by less than one percentage point – in a district that has gone overwhelmingly Republican in every election for thirty years – and gave a 16% margin for Trump in 2016.]
Bruce Mowbray: In fact, I think this area is the second highest for overdose deaths in the entire nation.
Riddle Sideways: wow, great going ... oh wait... bad
Bruce Mowbray: Everyone carries those antidote syringes... not just med folks and cops
Riddle Sideways: cops need room for guns
Bruce Mowbray: My friends carry them - just in case they come upon someone slumped over in a parking lot or something.
Riddle Sideways: ever look at the tool belts cops wear. wow
Riddle Sideways: lots o stuff
Bruce Mowbray: Yeppers.
Bruce Mowbray: Be prepared, I guess.
Riddle Sideways: but, only prepared to hurt, not help
Bruce Mowbray: I'm finding that the older I get, the less capable of multi-tasking I'm getting.
Bruce Mowbray: I need to make lists every time I fly the drone... or have a list at hand.
Bruce Mowbray: Pathetic.
Riddle Sideways: needing lots of lists
Bruce Mowbray: I get halfway to where I'm going to launch and remember I've forgotten the SD card, or something.
Bruce Mowbray: Ridiculous.
Bruce Mowbray: They shouldn't even let me loose on the street.
Riddle Sideways: get to the kitchen and have forgotten why
Bruce Mowbray: Yeppers, a familiar story.
Bruce Mowbray: Why is that coffee sitting on the counter - - - ? Oh yeah, I left it there an hour ago.
Riddle Sideways: "Doors do it" the threshold breaks context
Bruce Mowbray: Ahhh.
Bruce Mowbray makes not to take down dorrs... also, doors.
Bruce Mowbray: also note*
Bruce Mowbray ponders thresholds and liminal space.
Riddle Sideways: or sub-liminal
Bruce Mowbray: hmmmm.
Bruce Mowbray: Oh yes, sub-liminal, especially that.
Riddle Sideways: pondering Super-liminal
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: enough, back to babies becoming children
Bruce Mowbray: God Above God? (cf, Paul Tillich)
Riddle Sideways: the exciting topics
Bruce Mowbray ponders growing up - again and again and again....
Riddle Sideways: just had 6 hours on an airplane with a 16mo
Bruce Mowbray: LOTS of liminal spaces, doors, thresholds....
Bruce Mowbray: Really!
Bruce Mowbray: How did that go?
Bruce Mowbray: Did you change a lot of diapers?
Riddle Sideways: failed to follow the first rule. do not smile at kid until landing
Bruce Mowbray laughs.
Riddle Sideways: no, had a great time
Bruce Mowbray: Did he call you "Da da"?
Bruce Mowbray: or dada?
Riddle Sideways: am so ready to be a Grand-Parent
Bruce Mowbray: They say grand-parenthood is wonderful.
Riddle Sideways: not just an average bad Parent
Bruce Mowbray: How many children (adults, now) do you have, Riddle?
Riddle Sideways: two. 31 and 26
Bruce Mowbray: Oh my.... that's wonderful.
Riddle Sideways: not in places/spaces to have kids yet
Bruce Mowbray nods.
Bruce Mowbray: So, you're not frequently asking them when you get to be a grandpa, I hope.
Riddle Sideways: nope, not being that kind of ...
Bruce Mowbray: Yeah, a no-pressure dad... great!
Bruce Mowbray: As a hermit and a single man. . . I cannot imagine being able to handle the responsibility of children....
Bruce Mowbray: but I guess they come along when they will....
Bruce Mowbray: My wife never wanted to have kids... Don't know why, though.
Bruce Mowbray: Maybe for the same reasons I didn't.
Bruce Mowbray: Have either of you seen the movie FIRST REFORMED?
Riddle Sideways: no
Bruce Mowbray: I highly recommend it -- although it is very hard to watch.
Bruce Mowbray: Very strong exploration of climate change, sanity, and authentic spirituality.
Korel Laloix: Sorry about that.. back.. darn RL
Bruce Mowbray: Hi, Kori. Wb.
Korel Laloix: Will look it up.
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, it is an excellent movie.. . . I felt it was the movie Ethan Hawke was born to be in.
Riddle Sideways: story of a Priest dealing with hard times, hmmm
Bruce Mowbray: Well, hard times is putting it mildly.
Bruce Mowbray: Sort of like. . . taking the world on his shoulders. . . .
Korel Laloix: Takes a certain kind of person to do that job... and that is not me.. but Sama is good at that kind of thing....
Riddle Sideways: adds it to the hard-to-watch list, my that list is long
Bruce Mowbray: or at least feeling that the church should be more responsible on climate change issues.....
Bruce Mowbray: instead of siding with corporate polluters....
Bruce Mowbray: What I liked best about the movie was how REAL it seemed.
Bruce Mowbray: I could imagine myself in similar circumstances.....
Korel Laloix: Not seen a lot of movies recently.. need to get back to that.. make myself sit still for a bit
Bruce Mowbray: I salute Sama for her good work.
Korel Laloix: I think she had good upbringing... and kept it going despite me... smiles
Bruce Mowbray: She's getting her MDiv.... or doctorate?
Riddle Sideways: smiles
Korel Laloix: MDiv
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I got mine in 1979.
Korel Laloix: When she is done, I am starting in on my PhD full time.
Bruce Mowbray: from United Theological Seminary in Dayton.
Bruce Mowbray: Wonderful, Kori!
Korel Laloix: Looking forward to getting out of this job.
Riddle Sideways: wow, good luck
Bruce Mowbray: ahhhhh.. . . still working for lawyers, then?
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: Worse.. politicians.
Bruce Mowbray: OMG.
Riddle Sideways: sssslivers
Korel Laloix: Providing medical and science advice to the state legislature.
Bruce Mowbray: I thought you got a degree in epidemiology....
Korel Laloix: And BioStats
Bruce Mowbray: OK, that makes sense.
Bruce Mowbray: Do they listen to you?
Riddle Sideways: OK legislators, oxymoron
Korel Laloix: I thought it would be a good job helping inform the public debate.
Bruce Mowbray: For sure, Kori....
Bruce Mowbray: if they pay attention.
Korel Laloix: Some do.. most just want me to collect the info that supports their perspective.
Bruce Mowbray: Yep, afraid of that.
Bruce Mowbray: You can "prove" anything with enough data and statistics.
Korel Laloix: But some are so set, they will not even acknowledge other points of view... what can you do with that?
Bruce Mowbray: "My mind is made up. Don't confuse me with facts."
Korel Laloix: The best thing though is that I am learned so much and doing a lot of networking.
Bruce Mowbray: Great.
Korel Laloix: And it comes from all directions.
Riddle Sideways: that is good
Bruce Mowbray nods.
Riddle Sideways: ooo need to go, RL just arrived
Bruce Mowbray: The town five miles north is celebrating its 200th anniversary -and I'm supposed to be there at 5 p.m. (EST) Gotta go now.
Riddle Sideways: thanks All
Korel Laloix: Take care.. thanks for the chat
Bruce Mowbray: OK.. Bye for now, folks!
Bruce Mowbray: Good luck with everything, Kori.
Korel Laloix: Ciao.. thanks...
Bruce Mowbray: Bye!
Korel Laloix: Going to work on my mesh a bit more now
Bruce Mowbray: Good luck with that, too!
